Negative experience: They never answered the phone.
Negative experience: I had a terrible experience at 1 Choice Driving School. The instructor was extremely rude, unprofessional, and, worst of all, racist. Instead of teaching me with patience and respect, she belittled me and made hurtful comments to the point of making me cry. She even told me that I was a danger behind the wheel and that I would “kill someone,” which was completely unnecessary and uncalled for. After that awful experience, I decided to enroll in another driving school, and within just a month, I passed my driving test with 100% accuracy and zero mistakes. This proves that the problem was never me—it was the toxic environment and lack of professionalism at this school. I do not recommend 1 Choice Driving School to anyone looking for a positive and respectful learning experience.
Fantastic experience: Around of applause to Dawn who was my instructor today in maneuverability she was nice to me and calmed me down when I was nervous, and i passed my test,and above all the whole staff that I met there today they were all friendly and nice.

Thank you. You can make an appointment at BMV.ohio.gov. Currently we only do Thursdays, but starting with April we are going to 5 days a week at Ohio Driver Testing LLC which is next door to us and is our business as well.
Negative experience: Unfortunately, we had a terrible experience at this location. The staff were very disrespectful, and the manager was shouting and yelling. At one point, he even shouted, **"Get out of my office!"** I plan to contact the BMV to report our experience at this facility. I strongly recommend finding a different location for your exam, especially if you are a person of color or from a minority group.
If you are going to post a review you should tell the whole story. You were trying to argue with an examiner stating that speeding through a school zone should NOT be a reason to fail a test instead of minding your child that was wandering around barefoot. If your child gets hurt in our building because she is not being supervised, who’s fault does that become. When initially told to get your child, you responded aggressively and was then told to leave the building because we do not tolerate aggressive behavior. You were not yelled at; just told something you didn’t want to hear. And shame on you for pulling the race card. There was nothing said or done that had anything to do with race or ethnicity. We go above and beyond here to help all people.
Fantastic experience: I failed part 3 at the end of December. Then I signed up for 8 hours of driving practice with Ms. Pam. She is very good at guiding and encouraging me. After each 2-hour session, I improved a lot and today I passed the exam. Everyone in the center is very friendly. Thank you very much!!!

Fantastic experience: I recently completed my driving lessons at 1st choice driving academy, and I couldn't be happier with my experience. From start to finish, the entire process was professional, and incredibly educational. The instructors are highly knowledgeable, patient, and skilled at teaching even the most nervous drivers. They made me feel comfortable behind the wheel and provided clear, step-by-step guidance that helped me build confidence quickly. Their focus on safety and proper technique gave me a solid foundation to pass my driving test.

Negative experience: Honestly the worst experience of my life. First of all, their services don’t match what is described. Every single time after I completed my in cars, my instructors would jump out of the car rushing to go back inside instead of telling me how I did or discussing it with my parents. I never knew what I could be doing better. Their instructors struggle to be professional and can be super rude/inpatient with students that are just learning to drive. The first thing that was said to me when I didn’t know what maneuverability was, was that my parents should’ve taught me it and how it’s going to waste our time because I have to learn something new. I understand when instructors get frustrated if a student has never been on the road, but this was different. It wasn’t professional for that kind of comment. My in cars started at 3:30, and by the time they ended their place was already closed, so when I finished my last in car I was never reminded to pick up my certificate of completion ever. They held on to it and never let me or my dad know. I was only reminded by the Ohio BMV website when I scheduled my driver’s test. Overall, there’s very little professionalism involved with this driving school. I recommend looking over other driving school’s before signing up for this one because I promise that there’s better out there. Getting my license should’ve been an exciting process, but every day I had my in cars scheduled, wasn’t a good day for me.
I am sorry to hear that you feel you didn’t have a good experience. In reviewing the in-car lessons, the instructors appear to be kind, patient and professional, however it is frustrating for them when a student has not completed the 20-30 hours (of the 50 the parents are required by state code) that we require prior to the in-cars and is not driving in-between the in-cars as is the case here. This inhibits the instructor from being able to cover all the material that is in the state curriculum and basically having to start over with each lesson rather than building on each lesson. This is the reason Ohio state code mandates that the parents are to be doing a minimum of 50 hours with their student driver as we only get 8 hours. To be clear, you cannot become a good driver in 8 hours. As for the maneuverability, I will be discussing with my instructor what happened here as we do not mind teaching the maneuverability for the first time and prefer to. The instructors did go over your scores at the end of each lesson as to what you did well on and what needed work. Had you mentioned at some point during the in-car lesson that your parents wanted in-put at the end of the in-cars, the instructors are always happy to discuss. However, if they don’t know your expectations/wants then they don’t know that and not everyone wants approached or has time. Some simple communication could have resolved that rather than waiting to complain after the fact. As for certificates, at the time paperwork is signed, our office staff goes over all steps in the process extensively, including when to expect your certificate and how to get it per YOUR selection of either Mail, Pick-up or Test. You indicated/selected on your paperwork that you were going to test with us which as per the instructions given, the certificate would be here the day of the test. Not sure how we were supposed to know you decided to test elsewhere without that being communicated to us. Again, simple communication makes life better and easier. Thank you for your feedback and I hope your days get better.
Negative experience: Scheduling here is a nightmare, I know they have a small staff but when you pay that much money you expect to have your calls returned in less than a week. When I went to take my driving test, they informed me that they weren't sure if I was going to be able to test with them due to a medical condition, which they knew about before hand. They didn't even find out the answer until I was there and ready to take my test. The instructors are fantastic, very polite and helpful. Administration is awful.
Hi Natalie, Thank you for the kind words for the instructors. I am glad to hear that they met your expectations. I am sorry to hear that your expectations of the administration were not met, however it needs mentioned in all fairness that when we are given the wrong number to reach you, as is what you supplied on your registration form and tried to reach you for an entire month, yes that is a nightmare for us as we are continually having to circle back around to making contact with you. Also, you signed up in April and were scheduled for last week of May and first week of June. Just so you are aware, it typically takes much longer to get in for lessons than one and a half months, but my "Awful" administration squeezed you in to an already booked area of the schedule (because we couldn't reach you for a month at no fault of ours), trying to be helpful in lieu of the incorrect information you provided us. Also, when you then cancelled one of your appointments, our voicemail stated that it can take a business week to get back to you so that proper expectations are set. Negative experience: when you go to take your drivers test there, they don't let you use your own car that you practice manuverability in. there is no excuse for that, i do not recommend going here for your drivers test. from the reviews I've read the incars go well, but DO NOT take your test here.
I am sorry you didn't read the rules that are clearly stated in our narrative on the BMV website that we only use our cars. There is a perfectly good reason for this...we are a small family owned business, working to do a service to our community by helping the state provide driving tests, however we do not have the larger umbrella for insurance liability as the state has so we have to keep our examiners in our cars so they are covered under our insurance. I am sorry that us not putting our employees at an insurance risk doesn't set well with you and you feel that criticizing our company for something that is made known before taking the test, giving you the opportunity to test elsewhere, was a necessity. Also, according to the schedule, you were a no-call/no-show meaning you took a time slot from someone who could have tested today and wasted our time and money. I hope you find a testing station suitable to your standards.
Negative experience: Very unprofessional, lack of business ethics and unresponsive! How difficult is it to respond to people’s calls, emails with inquiries! I advise people to go elsewhere to register to avoid this sort of unprofessionalism.
I apologize that your expectations were not met. I will answer your question as to how difficult it is to respond to calls and email as obviously you have no idea. This office receives over 50+ phone calls a day and usually double that in emails with 1-2 people handling it. And this is on top of handling the day-to-day operations. I am sorry that missing a phone call or email, in your opinion, deems someone as being unprofessional and lacking business ethics. Because yes we have missed a call or an email, but very few in comparison to the volume we deal with. The people in this office work very hard and diligently to provide a good service. Apparently being human is not up to your standards and deserves being bashed. I wish you the best in finding a company that meets your expectations.
Fantastic experience: Hi there, Don was my classroom teacher and he was the BEST teacher I have ever had! My other teachers at school rarely take the time to really get to know me and help me as much as they can, but Don helped me and made sure I received a 96% on his test. He deserves a promotion!
Fantastic experience: Recently, I had a classroom instructor named Don. He was by far one of the best educators I have ever had in the fifteen years of my life. Don genuinely set a positive example for his students by encouraging high academic achievement and making sure they are highly engaged. Don also greatly helped me learn the new material and absorbed it like a "Sponge." I strongly suggest that Don be elevated to a position of high administration.
Negative experience: walk in tests are only if Thursday appointments get canceled. don't even bother trying to get a walk in.
We operate the same as the BMV and most BMV's don't take walk-ins at all. We do walk-ins if openings come available and we do not push people out who took the time to schedule an actual appointment. I am sorry that lack of planning on your part put you in the situation that you couldn't schedule an appointment and wait your turn like everyone else, causing your apparent need to blame us for that.
Also, we did provide you all this information to set proper expectations prior to your review. Please see the email you were sent which you responded to with "Thanks for the information".

Negative experience: They took over 10 weeks to respond for my in-car driving, their phone number never works, they barely respond to email and if they do it's like winning the lottery, I mean paying over $400 to wait for almost 2 months just to get a call and then another 2 months waiting for your driving. This is the first and last time. Awful business!
I do apologize that you don't understand how drivers Ed works and how many teenagers there are in this area needing drivers Ed verses how little driving schools and instructors there are. If it took 10 weeks to reach you, there probably was some difficulty in reaching you as we are pretty accurate with the 8 weeks that we let everyone know that it takes to get the call to schedule and that the call is not when the in-cars will be. All this information is provided when you sign -up. Also, per Ohio state code, driving schools are allotted 6 months to complete the drivers Ed program as the state does know and understand how long this process can take. 1st Choice has always meant this timeline in less than the 6-month state allotment. Again, I do apologize that your expectations were not meant, however everyone here at 1st Choice Driving Academy works very hard and does an excellent job with most working 6 days a week to ensure that Ohio has safe drivers. As for phone calls and emails, we receive anywhere from 40 to 70 phone calls a day and usually 50 to 75 emails a day. We are a 2 person staffed office that works diligently to reach back out to everyone and yes, sometimes we do miss a callback or an email.
Fantastic experience: Both my kids went through 1st Choice driving academy and they learned alot. The office staff and driver's were so professional and the company is very family oriented. I would recommend them to anyone.

Negative experience: I would not recommend this business. They can be nice and helpful at times, but mostly they can be unreasonable, unresponsive, and not professional at all. Poor business practices and customer service. Scheduling - they are "so busy" that the best they can offer is a call when something comes available. Typically less than 24 hours. Never answer the phone, call back past 24 hours is as good as it gets. Cancellation - They wanted me to physically come in to sign papers before my daughter took the first drive. I had COVID so did not want to bring that into their office (nice of me yea?) Again could not get an answer so I left a message. When I finally did talk to someone to explain, I was put on hold for 10 minutes so they could go back and "check the voice mail logs" to calculate that I was 1 hour short of their policy. Boom $75 or you don't drive. Seriously? I could have just as easily brought COVID into their office. You're welcome. Certificate - They can't give you a certificate after your final drive. They can't mail the certificate. Again seriously? I took over an hour out of my day to drive over and pick it up, they could not find it. I was not once, but TWICE accused of picking it up and forgetting I picked it up, because "they don't lose things." I assure you I do not forget a disruption of my day like that and the effort it takes for me to pick it up. My other kids will be finding a different school.
Fantastic experience: Don and Jay are amazing. They are all very laid back and don’t make you do anything that’s out of your comfort zone until you’re ready. They get you ready for the maneuverability and driving part of the test very well.
Fantastic experience: Without 1st Choice Driving Academy I would not have my drivers license! I was absolutely TERRIFIED of being behind the wheel before my first driving course. Pam was my instructor for all four sessions and she was extremely patient, kind and understanding. At first, I felt discouraged with my driving abilities and Pam quickly built up my confidence by saying positive words such as, “Good job!” and “You’ve got this!” We had a lot of great discussions during our two hours in the car together. I was able to laugh and breathe instead of constantly panic. There were times I made driving errors like using the wrong turn signal or driving too slow and she always corrected me without judgment. I learned how to confidently drive on roads I never thought I would drive on like the highway and country roads.I am very thankful for my experience at 1st Choice Driving Academy and recommend new drivers to this driving school.
Negative experience: I tested positive for Covid 2 days before I was suppose to come in for my lesson. I’ve called & called even left a voicemail within 24 hours of my lesson stating that I won’t be able to attend and that I’ll have to reschedule because of me testing positive. No one has reached out to me to reschedule. But an hour before my scheduled lesson I received an email stating that I am suspended. (I have no idea why I would be suspended). It’s so unprofessional that no one still hasn’t reached back out to me. I wasted my money. I Didn’t receive a refund ,a reschedule date nothing! I wouldn’t recommend this place at all.
Fantastic experience: I never do reviews but I had to for this location. I have had terrible anxiety with driving and thought I never would be able to get my license. I then decided to push myself to take a driving course to get more comfortable, but I was terrified. I did four classes, I had Dennis for three and Pam for one. Let me tell you they both are amazing!! They always made me feel comfortable and would talk me through everything. I know if it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t have been able to get my license!

Fantastic experience: This place is the best for beginner drivers course and probably just as good for adults. Instructors give dail assessment of driving skills and bad habits. They do a variety of locations and scenarios. He still has two days of in-car left but I am satisfied so far,sounds superior to the shared eight hours drive time I got with two other kids in driver's ed. He is getting full eight hours two hours a day over four days. They even scheduled his driving test for me. They got us in quick and worked us in because of cancellation. Staff is great besides price which is on par with everyone else they're great so I can't even complain about that.
Fantastic experience: My son just completed his in-cars with 1st Choice this week. We were so incredibly impressed with the instructors and their quality teaching! Our son loved Pam the most. He said that she walked him through everything they were doing and how he could improve. He said they laughed together and she shared stories with him, to help him feel at ease. You could really tell she loves her job! The office staff and the owner are also amazing! Very prompt to return phone calls and willing to answer any questions. Pam made me feel comfortable from my very first incar to my last. Pam was a great person to talk to for 2 hours while she helped improve my driving 1000% without her i dont think id be as confident of a driver as I am. Fantastic experience: This school is absolutely great...my two 16 year olds both took their driving and maneuverability tests within the last two weeks and both scored perfect scores! Also, Dennis and his wife are amazing...they definitely go above and beyond. I will say that we used an online provider for the course and it was not good at all...actually, it was horrible. From word-of-mouth from my friends that have used 1st Choice's in-classroom course, I would definitely go that route. But, as for the in-car with 1st choice, I highly recommend from first hand experience!

Fantastic experience: I have experienced two driving schools with my children and I have to give high marks to the 1st Choice Driving Academy. We only did the in car portion of drivers education with them, but their driving instructors were Top Notch. My daughter had a great experience and felt very comfortable with both instructors she had. This was a completely different experience than my son had with another company. It is obvious that 1st Choice trains their driving instructors well! They are very popular so be sure and plan ahead!

Fantastic experience: A fantastic experience from start to finish! We homeschool and our oldest daughter just got her license yesterday, after completing classes with 1st Choice. Kristy was always a pleasure to interact with and they were very flexible with scheduling drive times. They worked on maneuverability every lesson, which was very helpful with her driving test. All of the driving teachers helped our daughter to feel very comfortable right off the bat, and really prepared her well for the future. Fantastic experience: This is a top-notch company. Extremely professional from the first phone call to the last in-car driving session. I cannot begin to express how pleased we have been. Phone calls were always answered promptly. If the calls went to voicemail I always experienced that my messages were returned the same day. Kristy was able to schedule in-car sessions within several weeks. She had the paperwork completed quickly and efficiently, and Dennis went above and beyond to accommodate for pick-up and drop-off during our son's driving sessions. We were always greeted with a smile and ALWAYS treated kindly and with respect! Thank you for your outstanding service!

Fantastic experience: I had an excellent experience with the behind-the-wheel courses and had the notion that they dramatically improved my driving abilities. Each of the four consecutive days involved maneuverability exercises including how to avoid the most negative of scenarios. The instructor went out of their way to teach in my area across town. Competitive pricing and it’s good that all four classes could be scheduled on consecutive days, because it meant that the training is as integrated to the learning process as possible.

Fantastic experience: Dennis and Kristie Bowman at 1st Choice Driving Academy did a superb job of assisting me to get my driver's license. It was a good thing I chose them to help me because I was by no means a cinch! I'm a 76 year old man and had not driven in many years, but my age was the reason I needed to drive again. Walking long distances and carrying heavy weights from necessary shopping by bus was just too much for me anymore. Thanks in great part to their help I was able to pass the BMV written test, the driving test, and the very demanding maneuverability test. I thank them, and may God bless them!

Fantastic experience: 1st Choice Driving Academy was absolutely wonderful. Dennis and Christy really truly care about their students. My daughter enjoyed her driving time with Dennis....he was easy to talk to, she was comfortable driving with him, he was very patient and a great teacher....she learned a great deal from him. And Christy was so helpful...when I was trying to get signed up I didn't really know what I was doing and she got on the phone with me and told me step for step what, when and how to do everything. Signing up for the driving appointments on the website was very quick and easy. We love 1st Choice Driving Academy and will recommend it to everyone we know that is looking for a driver's ed school. Also, it was cheaper than all the other schools I contacted. And my daughter passed her driving exam on the first try with no problems at all. Thank you Dennis and Christy for making this a great experience....you two are amazing and do a phenomenal job....can't thank you enough!!!

Fantastic experience: Amazing customer service, I had a great experience at 1st choice driving academy. Mr.Bowman is extremely knowledgeable and ensures the safety of his students. A lot of tips are given during in-cars which help me become a better driver. I would definitely recommend this school to anyone. And thanks to him, I finished my driving lesson on Thursday 8/10/17 and got my drivers license on Friday 8/11/17.
Fantastic experience: 1st Choice Driving Academy is an excellent school. It is clean, organized, safe, and very friendly, unlike many other driving schools. Dennis and his wife put a lot of thought into their school and the safety of their students; from their maneuverability cones, to their student driving car. Their website is very easy to navigate, and booking driving appointments was very simple. Plus, it was very cheap compared to other schools! Dennis worked with me over their online live chat through their website to get my drives scheduled in as early as possible, which was a very nice and handy feature. Dennis was also a wonderful instructor. He is great at teaching, is very approachable and easy to talk to, is someone you can joke with, and does not make you nervous like some instructors do. I highly recommend 1st Choice Driving Academy!
