Shift Above 2

Fantastic experience: I had the opportunity to drive in snow today with Shift Above 2 after switching from another driving school I was unhappy with. They taught me techniques to use the snow to slow the car down without skidding. They also taught me how to adjust pressure and regain control of the car when accelerating and the tires are skidding. Then, when it came time to practice road test requirements against a big pile of snow instead of clear curb, which was at first uncomfortable and challenging, but after information and techniques were shown, became just as easy as it would be in normal weather. Prior to this lesson, Mike has always been very patient and taught me road test requirements and corrected bad habits from the previous school. He also provided me with detailed insights into the road test. Would absolutely recommend, especially to new drivers

Fantastic experience: I had a great experience with Shift Above 2, the lessons and training was very helpful and well detailed. I had the opportunity to train at different times of the day, and it made my training experience better. Throughout my 4 sessions, I felt that I was given a great amount of information and it was more of a hands on training for me to be able to drive myself while having assistance from my instructor. In my previous lesson, I was driving while it was partially snowing and was on the highway. I feel like that experience for me was something that I needed so I would be able to know and learn how to drive in different environments and weather conditions. Overall, I would say that this driving school gave me great training, helping me to have the knowledge I need before my road test.

Fantastic experience: I’m currently at the end of the 6 hour teen program at Shift Above 2. Before I started the course I was quite nervous never having been behind the wheel and knowing that some of my lesson time would occur in the nighttime. Now that I have a good understanding of controlling a car and the differences between driving in daytime verses nighttime, I feel more confident and look forward to getting my license in the near future. I heard from friends that most of the instructors from their driving schools lost their patience and yelled at them. Much to my relief my instructor Mike is very calm and never once did he yell. He also takes his time and explains techniques very thoroughly. I never felt rushed and always had the opportunity to ask questions when needed. I only needed clear instructions and valid tips in order to pass the road test in the US. This is exactly what I got during our lesson, and even more! Fantastic experience: I am a first time Au Pair in America. I am from France and this is my first experience to drive in another country. My assigned family has automatic car and my only driving was with manual. I met with Mike to help with my driving of automatic and be comfortable to driving on new roads. He was very good with explaining the difference in laws and signs and lights that I didn't know. He showed me some new skills to help me be more comfortable driving in traffic and to deal with new situations I experienced here. He gave me more skills with driving and it was a very good experience.

Fantastic experience: Recently completed my driving hour requirements with shift above 2 and Mike was my teacher. Due to scheduling, some of my lessons led into full headlight usage which I would’ve believed would be harder but after understanding what to do, it wasn’t bad. At the start of some of my lessons, it was becoming sunset and at the end, it was dark and I had to use my headlights. My comfort level actually didn’t change much because of Mike’s guidance. Because of previous lessons, when we got to doing harder things like parallel parking in the dark, I felt more confident and I got a lot of information that helped me with my driving. In my opinion, learning in the dark wasn’t much of a disadvantage compared to driving during the day because of the program and it’s structure.

Fantastic experience: Driving in América for the first time for me . My host family provided lessons with this school to help me to adjust to the different driving here from Colombia and the size of the car (grand Cherokee Jeep). The instructor was patient and I could learn about the rules in america and how I must to follow them . Fantastic experience: I took a few lessons with shift above two since I was trained by my parents. The transition from my Parents training to Mike training I found he provided he enough technique and information for me to adapt to road test standards and to Perform closer to road testing. Fantastic experience: due to a limited amount of time before my road test I discussed with mike how to approach learning the road test requirements in a short amount of time in addition to doing it in the evening when there’s limited natural light. Because of his knowledge and understanding of what would be needed due to the environment conditions I felt comfortable enough to risk it. Tonight was the last of my sessions and I already feel like I have gained a stronger grasp on the fundamentals starting from almost nothing before my lessons At first I was unsure if I would be able to benefit from practicing under darker conditions but he helped breakdown the why and the how when it came to maneuvering, parallel parking, and brake/gas pressure. I didn’t even feel like I needed to stress about using my headlights to see as it got darker, and overall I went from not feeling confident parking to being able to understand and perform all my driving necessities in a short amount of time.

Positive experience: I am a 22 year old beginner driver. Put off getting my permit till I felt ready to start learning. Back in 2022 I did searches to find driving schools that specialized with special needs individuals. Out of my searches this driving school I felt had the best program I would better learn from and had more reviews from similar people with special needs. I had a few phone calls with Mike to inquire about what his driving school program entails and from that I had more confidence that I wanted to start with him. After my 1st lesson with Mike I felt very excited & eager to keep learning further on! On my 5th lesson was my 1st time driving in rain and at steadier higher speeds and still felt that I made progress in all areas! Mike really understood my learning level on what I needed to improve on as I gone on through the steps!

Fantastic experience: We chose to come to Shift Above 2 because after going through multiple reviews of different places this one had the best ratings. Upon my first lesson, I was able to feel fully comfortable with driving down a few streets. He taught me how to reverse the car, drive it, and the basics of a K-Turn. He was patient and understanding of me being a beginner. With the last two lessons, we got more specific on specific turns, parking, and driving. Mike explained how to do everything, and then let me attempt and if he saw something wrong, he let me know. He wasn't nagging me every five seconds either. He taught me not only how to drive road test level, but also real world level. If we came across a real life situation he brought it up and explained. He didn't make me feel rushed and allowed me to take my time, and try as much as the time permitted. He never yelled, and was always understanding of the situations. I believe that after Mike's help, if I were to not receive anymore lessons from him, with more practice I would pass. He provided notes, and taught in a way that was easy to follow. His teaching techniques allow for us as students, to feel more confident and trust themselves to drive. I would definitely recommend Shift Above 2.

Fantastic experience: I put off driving for years due to the fear of not being able to control a car and general anxiety. Mike has taught me not only how to drive a car but more importantly how to CONTROL the vehicle and not freak out on the road. His explanations were thorough and clear. Fantastic experience: Mike gave really thorough explanations throughout the whole process - he explained and demonstrated in a way that would allow me to think through the steps and repeat them in different cars and scenarios too. I was nervous before the first lesson but was driving on the highway by the third without issue. Would recommend to others!

Fantastic experience: After I passed my written/knowledge test at my areas DMV I began training with this company to help steer me into the right direction and steps I needed for being on the road. My uncle got me started on the basics but this company really helped me get a more detailed and helpful grasp on my general knowledge. With everything I was taught from my instructor I'm now able to really feel comfortable and confident with being behind the wheel. In my opinion I don't believe I'll lose anything that was already taught to me and I'm very grateful to have a new way to travel and more freedom.

Fantastic experience: Today I completed the final 90 minutes out of my six hours, and I was surprised to realize how much more hectic and attention hungry the real roads are compared to how they were depicted in my Driver’s Ed class. My thoughts on being behind the wheel had dramatically changed after my first lesson, because I learned how careful you must be with all of your movements. I believe that taking these lessons and experiencing genuine driving for the first time alongside an instructor has been extremely beneficial to my overall growth. There was immense amounts of in-depth, high quality, and trustworthy tips and information about real world driving in addition to road test standard driving provided throughout the driving sessions. I definitely learned just as much if not more during these lessons than during my 10 weeks in Driver’s Ed, and every lesson was clearly thought out ahead of time to ensure the best possible experience for the student. There was always opportunities to perform a skill/technique several times in each lesson and this allowed me to physically feel my growth as a driver even over the span of a single lesson.

Fantastic experience: We came to Shift Above 2 (Mike) through someone’s recommendation, because we were unhappy with another driving school where my daughter went through her first 6 hours of driving lesson but still didn’t feel comfortable with driving. Mike was super friendly and thorough (just what a mother needs for peace of mind). We booked two 90 minutes lessons with him and he went over the time both times to ensure that my daughter gets what she needs. We also booked a one way trip to the road test, including a quick final practice which was extremely helpful. My daughter passed her test smoothly and is comfortably driving now. I have a younger daughter who I plan to send to Mike too when it’s her turn. I would definitely recommend him!

Fantastic experience: Shift Above 2 is a life saver. About a year ago, my daughter received driving lessons from another driving school her friend recommended. She was very nervous behind the wheel. The instructions she received were strictly "by the book” and her specific issues were not promptly addressed. Even after eight hours of learning, she still couldn't drive on any road with me. Fantastic experience: I reached out to ShiftAbove2 to help me get back into the drivers seat after years of avoidance because of anxiety. Mike took me to an empty parking lot and gave me the chance to get a feel for what it's like and treated it like a no-pressure situation. He definitely knows a lot about how driving anxiety can manifest and understands that it is different for every person!

Fantastic experience: Before i went to college i was not really worried about driving but now that Ive been back home for 2yrs I felt the need to finally take my road test. I had a very short window to learn with only 3-4 weeks prior to road test. But this school was able to offer me a bootcamp style program were each session was concentrating on specific things that had to executed during road test. We focused more road test style since i had a short period of time to learn but took some time adjusting to real world as well. It felt like it was a program customized to my needs and learning skills. I had a great experience and I feel confident with the knowledge I was given and more practice, I can pass my road test!

Fantastic experience: I did interval training since I got my permit at 17. And the way each topic was explained for each lesson helps me understand what I had to do even though we only did it two times. And the road test requirements for parallel park and many of the other topics on the road test were highlighted and differentiated to the real life driving. The lessons honestly help provide enough information and knowledge where you can practice for the road test standards with your family members instead of having an instructor always in the car.

Fantastic experience: I completely my 6 hour program through Shift Above 2 and I felt well prepared with the amount of information they gave. Even though it felt overwhelming at first, Mike was super patient and explained everything every step of the way. For example, I thought I would be super nervous on highways when I started the program, but after my 6 hours I’m more confident when driving at faster speeds and being a safe and responsible driver.

Fantastic experience: I am so thankful to this driving schools training program and the patience and skill of my instructor. I moved to Queens from the Caribbean so I had no urgency to learn how to drive until I moved to New Jersey. My first few experiences with other driving schools were horrible. I had impatient instructors or felt the program wasn't helping me improve after weeks of doing the same thing over and over. A friend knew someone that suggested to call Mike. I wished I knew of him from the start. On my first lesson I could tell he was different and what I needed. He fixed my problems with turning and understanding speed control and braking. Eventhough I made the same mistakes as I did with the other instructors, Mike stayed calm and didn't yell. He talked me through what to do each time until I was doing it on my own. He always seemed to understand why I was doing something wrong and would adjust things so I slowly was now doing better and myself. Through his ways, I understood how to think about situations ahead and how to think about what I wanted my car to do. By his training, I know how to keep my nervousness and tension from interfering with my driving. I did pass my road test. I definitely recommend him.

Fantastic experience: My second assignment in the U.S. as an aupair required more driving then my first and Mike was highly referred. The host family has teenagers and I mostly drive local or short distance during my first assignment. I needed more help being confident driving on highways and congested roads betwee n East Hanover and Morristown. The technic that I learned when doing on my own I felt comfortable and safer performing on my own. When I first was performing in traffic in higher speeds I was nervous but after a few attempts I was better doing it and became more comfortable.

Fantastic experience: Mike was a great teacher. I tried road test with no practice and didn't do good. My host family chose the school to help me better prepare for retry. I come from Thailand and never drove on right of road or park large car like in US. After my 2 sessions with Mike I did much better and he gave me more techniques to better perform overall and my parking. Fantastic experience: today i finished the last of my 6 hours of training. through the training i realized things related to driving and maneuvering were not at easy as it appeared from drivers ed. I felt that I improved after each lesson review. I felt that being given the freedom to decide to steer the car for myself i had more confidence. Fantastic experience: Had introduction class with Mike since this is first time driving in a foreign country. i am from Brazil and here as aupair. My first experience driving automatic was with Mike. i was very nervouse but Mike showed me always what i needed or helped fix when i did not understand. he was good at changing the class if i didnt understand the words or meaning since English was difficult for me at times and my nervousness didnt make it easier. i see Us driving is most different from what i know. he helped me identify what i need to learn and improve on.

Fantastic experience: I met with Mike from a recommendation of another Au Pair that trained with him. This is the first country im needing to driving in since I come from Colombia where we have no highways and my responsibility includes this as an Aupair. I was afraid about switch lines in the highways and the speed limit. Also, in the town I was worried about the stop signs and what can I do when there are many lanes but Mike helped me with everything and I feel comfortable with the techniques and procedures I learned.

Fantastic experience: I was fortunate that some of my driving lessons were in the rain and in the dark. Prior to my first lesson, I was concerned about speed control and driving amongst other cars, however after my first lesson I realized that it was not as scary as it may seem, with the proper guidance. Having done my last lesson I feel that I have come out with the proper instruction on how to manage a car. Knowing that the road test has changed I think I was given enough information and techniques to understand it as well as perform to test parameters and avoid too many mistakes during my test.

Fantastic experience: My son just passed his test with Mike who is a brilliant driving instructor with the ability to teach practical driving skills and most importantly to inspire confidence. His calm manner and encouraging guidance helped him gain confidence. My son was very anxious at first but with Mike’s clear and concise teaching he made him feel at ease. Fantastic experience: I worked with Mike my instructor for almost 2 years and he is a great instructor. He taught me how to do road test drills and learn to drive on the road/highway. Mike was always patient and explained things to me. He even gave me notes and diagrams from our lessons. Some lessons were a little harder than others but Mike helped me and always came back for my next lesson. I recently took the road test and passed it the very first time. I couldn't have done that without Mike teaching me how to understand the rules of the road and to drive. I would recommend him to others kids who might need a little extra time and patience to learn to drive.

Fantastic experience: Where do I begin with this one!!!! Mike is freaking We have been using Mike in my family for generations. He taught both of my nephews & my niece so it was only right for me to use him for my daughter. I would be out of my mind if I didn't . My daughter felt comfortable with Mike from the gate of her first lesson. He made her confident, relaxed, explained everything in detail and was very punctual. He had her drive on different roads at different times to give her experience through it all. What amazed me even more was that he took the time to know her personality and based her driving test location upon that. He knew she was a kid that would nervous and be afraid so he made she it was at a MV location that would understand her & not make her feel pressured. Now I did make this horrible mistake of making appointment with another driving school right before her exam and man oh man I immediately knew the difference. My daughter was not happy & Mike immediately noticed that she was doing things he did not teach her. They taught her the wrong things to do & gave her the wrong information on driving. My daughter was very smart on insisting to keep what Mike had taught her & would not let the new driving school take that away. I only got this new driving school temporarily because Mike had other obligations at that time & couldn't teach massai. I learned my lesson very well that week. JUST STICK WITH MIKE!!! On the day of exam Mike only had an hour & he quickly fixed all of the issues the other driving school had done incorrectly. My daughter was much more relaxed & relieved that Mike came through & did his thing . My daughter passed her driving test that day & came out the car dancing with joy in her heart. Mike even stayed after the driving test to make sure we had all of our documents right and we were good. Thank you again Mike. Fantastic experience: I had 3 sessions with Mike since my only driving and parking experience was in Italy where I’m from and about 3 years between cities and country stile. Things that I needed that Mile help me with were turn on red, different traffic lights, no left turning areas, how left turn and u turns are from right side “turn about”, multi line markings on road because in Italy we have only 2 marks. When needed to yield or stop for school bus and people that was more then I knew. For parking I was okay with a small car and parking in small space but not tight for car size. After spending time learning different paroling styles and sides space with Mike in his vehicle “seventeen foot long” I fell capable, comfortable, easier to park and better more now than before. Started at 25 foot space and finished capable of parking in 18.5 foot space which I didn’t think would be able to do in a space short time.

Fantastic experience: I’m in my 20’s and start to begin driving late. My mom found this driving school that specialized helping people with learning difficulties. Today was my test and I passed because of what I learned from my instructor Mike. My training took through the summer time but Mike was supportive and patient with me. My passing the test was because of this school.

Fantastic experience: I was looking for a driving school that offered a program that would both improve my driving skills and help me adjust to a new driving environment since I moved recently to NJ. After talking to Mike , I decided to sign on here. Mike was very good at understanding and recognizing what I needed and how to help me adapt to the new environments and style to be more confident and comfortable driving at various road speeds and traffic and highways that are different from what I was use too. Would recommend the advance program to those that want to elevate their skills and/or confidence.

Fantastic experience: I needed to find a training instructor that had experience with people that have learning difficulties since my last instructor trained me incorrectly and I failed my road test for too many mistakes. Mike corrected all the little things that I was doing wrong and changed the way I was doing other things to make it easier and more relaxed to perform and for me to remember. What made my learning different this time was Mike never got frustrated or pushed me when I made mistakes or forgot things like my other instructor did. This time I feel more comfortable and relaxed. Not pressured when I make a mistake. Mike gave me simple notes to help me remember things as I perform so I don’t lose focus if I get nervous.

My greatest improvement would have to be learning how to slow my vehicle down without wearing out the brakes and hesitating when in doubt about my decisions. Even though I tend to immediately switch from the gas pedal to the break, I can extend the life of my car’s brakes and avoid a rear-end collision by gently lifting my foot off of the gas pedal. Once the vehicle’s speed is reduced, I can further slow the vehicle by pressing my foot onto the break with moderate pressure. If I’m not sure about how to handle a situation, I can give myself time to figure out how to drive defensively by observing my surroundings for one or two seconds.” “Mike taught me how to handle two-way city traffic while pedestrians cross through an intersection. Fantastic experience: I took driving time with Mike before driving my hosting families children to understand differences between driving here from where I’m from which is Brazil. Fantastic experience: Completed my 6 hour driving requirement with my instructor Mike. Before I started driving, I was worried about maintaining control of the vehicle while in motion resulting in an injury of myself or others. I had no road experience, and the idea of operating the vehicle was nerve-wracking to say the least. While going through the training segments, I felt comfortable and in control under the guidance of my instructor. Anything I did wrong was immediately addressed and we began working quickly to adjust and fix it. Now that I've finished, I feel comfortable on the road and even find it enjoyable. I'm excited to be able to depend on myself instead of my parents in terms of transportation, and even drive them places at times. Fantastic experience: We highly recommend Mike and Shift Above 2 for driving lessons. We first used Mike a few years ago when my daughter was learning to drive. We had originally signed up with another driving school and on the first lesson, that instructor was very unprofessional. She had my daughter, and another 17 year old, practicing together on the road, switching back and forth. I called to question the owner on this and he confirmed that she was not supposed to do that with two new inexperienced drivers who only had their permits. We switched over to Mike and Shift Above 2 and wished we originally started with him. He took a very nervous new driver and made her feel very comfortable and more secure in her driving. I had recommended Mike at least 3 different times over the years, and everyone has been extremely happy with him. We recently used Mike again for my 17 year old son, who is also a nervous driver, and Mike puts him at ease and makes him feel more confident in his driving abilities.

Fantastic experience: When searching for a driving school for my 16 year old, I didn't know where to begin. I called several local schools, only to be disappointed by their lack of decency with returning calls in a timely manner, or, I was faced with somewhat rude individuals who didn't give me the time of day. Mike was probably the 7th school I called, and he was extremely courteous and actually spoke with me on the phone for AN HOUR describing his way of teaching. I did not need to look any further as I was impressed a) that he gave me an hour of his time BEFORE I actually booked him, and b)his lessons exceeded our expectations. My daughter had never been behind the wheel and was extremely nervous. She cried a little on the first day before she even left the house. He was very patient with her and described in detail EVERY single aspect of operating the vehicle. He teaches in a way that I don't think anyone else does. My daughter compared notes with her friends who used different driving schools, and they all said, that their instructors basically got in the car, and told them, "Ok, Drive"...without any explanations, not even how to shift gears or operate the pedals. They were in disbelief when my daughter explained Mike's way of teaching. There is a whole psychology that goes into this, he even described how when the body tenses up due to nerves, how you are supposed to react, etc. It blew me away. Mike is very knowledgeable and I knew I would not trust another driving school. Mike taught her EVERYTHING from how to steer properly, how to operate the signals, how to shift gears, how to position your feet, how you should be properly seated, etc AND the main thing- HOW TO DRIVE the right way. I could go on and on, but all I will say is I highly recommend Mike, the owner of Shift Above 2! He also spent a lot of time after each lesson, when he dropped her off, explaining various things with me about her lessons. From crying on lesson 1 before she even left the house, to being confident enough to drive on the highway on lesson 3, I will say Mike is definitely the best teacher in the area. Fantastic experience: I’m from France, here in the us as an au pair and first time driving outside of France. My host family had arranged for a driver assessment with this school. Fantastic experience: I had some issues that would make driving a bit of a challenge and needed to find a program that would fit that. This driving school was the best fitting of all that I researched. Mike was very accommodating at times showing me 1 step at a time how to do things. He was very patient and when needed taught me a lower version of a test requirement and then gradually bring me to road test level. When I was ready for traffic driving at speeds above 30mph, he took me onto more main roads and into Hackensack for the experience.

Fantastic experience: Chose here to prepare for my rode test over others, were going to consider mostly due to reviews and information while speaking with someone and also what I found on tiktok. Trained with another driving school in my area, but Mike was willing to meet me in a mutual location. Through the phone he asked to tell him some of the things I already knew in which others didn’t , this intrigued me to look into this driving school more. Once meeting him he went more into detail on real world driver versus road test environment and helped me with the technical aspect that the road test standard were going to grade me on. It showed me that I needed more help than I actually thought and he helped me get over some habits created by the real world driving. Some of the standout differences from what I learned here versus the other school was the information and the explanation of preforming and understanding how to look at thing from a safety versus risky standpoint. I was also given specific customized notes when needed on my performance to be able to practice well on my own. Fantastic experience: i waited til i was 17 to do my training and i chose this school because of the training program offered. on the first lesson, i was taught the basic fundamentals of driving a car around a local community and the way things were taught was similar to what i was expecting. when it was time to drive at higher speeds and with moderate traffic i was much less nervous because of the methods and techniques shown to me. parallel parking was so much easier for me and i’m glad i was able to be taught at a road test level.

Fantastic experience: I was looking for an international driving instructions coming from 10 years of Indian Road experience . I choose to train here as the International Training Program was the right one for me. 1st day in the night was more of adjust to US Automatic Driving Mode and having a way to remember all the signs on the way. Fantastic experience: I did a lesson with Shift Above 2 because I needed a preparation session before my road test at Kilmer (two weeks out). All my training before that was informal (through my dad), so I needed help from a school to understand what was required for the road test. Fantastic experience: Great training experience. Was expecting to learn how to drive, but now understand thats different then knowing how to control a car. My instructor was great at giving me information and understanding how to perform with better confidence and control at any moment I was feeling nervous or second guessing myself. A lot of times I thought he was going to grab the wheel or brake for me, but to my surprise, he talked me through it. At first I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to parallel park, but now that I’m finished with training, I feel very comfortable doing this maneuver, along with many other through the use of both instruction and visuals.

Here in New Jersey was my first time having driving lessons to better adapt to the driving environment. Both driving environments were a lot different than in Argentina. After my experience in the driving lesson, I felt more confident about signs, roads. About the explanation of technology and use of techniques and methods, they were very helpful, well explained and easy to follow. Demonstrations and examples while I was driving, were very helpful instead of doing it by himself. I felt comfortable when he was next to me and showed how to make the driving easier. Mike was a great match for my 16 year old son, who was required to take the 6 hours of behind the wheel driver training. On my third lesson I already felt comfortable driving on the highway when it was completely dark and during rush hour traffic (around 6-7pm). Mike gave me many important tips for my road test and I feel very confident and comfortable going into my road test this year.

Fantastic experience: I delayed learning how to drive sooner due to covid slowing things down, i started taking lessons with another driving school and completed 6 hours but then i decided to try a new school since i was feeling the instructor was holding my progress back and having me do the same thing each lesson. I decided to do a more thorough search for a driving school and from the program overview and reviews from this driving school I decided to book a lesson. After my first lesson with mike I decided to book additional hours because in that one lesson he had me do things the other instructor hadn’t. I completed 4 hours of training with mike and not only has my knowledge of driving and handling of a vehicle gotten better my confidence in driving increased dramatically. I drove for years with no issues but then anxiety crept into my life and and I had panic attacks behind the wheel. That led to me avoiding driving, which was a mistake. I live out of this school's usual service area but when I talked to Mike he said he would come to me for an extra fee. He said he has helped people in my situation before. Fantastic experience: i’ve been transferred from VA to NJ been in US for 5 months. I applied to a drivers license in NJ and before that I only drove here for less than a hour. My host family set up a drive class with Mike. My class was at night and I was insecure because I don’t have much experience driven but with things that’s he showed me I start feeling very comfortable in the streets, less nervous. Fantastic experience: I just finished my 6 hours at Shift Above 2. My first lesson was during a day of moderate snow. I thought the lesson would be canceled due to weather, but thankfully the instructor, Mike, also runs an adverse weather driving program and was well adept to handle it. When the snow started to pile up, I was getting more nervous, but he was very good at showing how to control the car. I quickly felt more comfortable and confident with his instruction. Fantastic experience: I would highly recommend Shift Above 2 driving school and Mike from my experience before finding them. I felt the previous school and instructors wasted my time and money. I didn't know until I started classes with Mike that things weren't covered (road test, rules and safety) and other things should not have happened. Shouting at me, driving within the same few blocks, grapping at the wheel a lot, braking for me with out understanding why. They distracting me playing with the phone was unprofessional. Mike is excellent, very professional and will teach you the very basic things, that is very important in making the best judgement and improving. He told me about the mistakes and taught me how to fix and then prevent. The other instructors told me I had to do things their way and Mike changed things so I felt more calm and focused to improve. The cheaper schools and early dates is not always the best choice.

He also takes the time to create custom-made sessions depending on the exact needs at that particular time. For example, she had additional lessons just for local driving or just for highway driving. He also will offer concrete advice and recommendations for practice between sessions. Now, as a young adult in her 20’s my daughter has had some setbacks due to her anxiety after a minor traffic incident. We reached out to Mike, and he has helped her get back to driving with confidence and less anxiety. Mike empowers my daughter with knowledge, and self-confidence. As a parent I highly recommend Mike. Mike is also easy to reach and will always get back to you. Fantastic experience: Test passed. Pre-test warm up with Mike helped fine tuning small details that could have been overlooked and possibly been marked against me. My initial training was with another driving school, but my mom wanted me to do advanced training with Mike. Fantastic experience: Due to the pandemic, I postponed my road test until college. I had a very busy schedule both during the school year and during the summer, so I had little time to take driving lessons. I thought I would be able to knock out the requirements quite easily. In fact, the road test is much harder than I had thought. The spaces for the test are quite restricted and it's important to follow procedures exactly, not just for parallel parking but also for backing up, three point turns, etc. Mike was amazing, he taught me references that work in any vehicle, and walked me through the procedures step by step. After a few hours of lessons, I was able to confidently perform all the maneuvers. Right before the road test, I called him to ask about a few details, and he answered right away, even during the holidays. With his training and advice, I passed the road test ! I highly recommend Mike if you’re looking for a driving coach.

Fantastic experience: Contacted Mike, under short notice, for my road test, since I am away at school and forgot to pre-schedule an appointment. Prior to my test I had no idea how to parallel park, and after a 30 minute lesson before my test I was able to park successfully on the test. When needed, he taught alternate ways to meet the needs of the NJDMV requirements and always provided specific practice instructions for her to work on between lessons. I highly recommend Mike at Shift Above 2!

Fantastic experience: I'm so grateful I went with Shift Above 2 for my driving lessons. I have had my driver's license for a while but was always so afraid of driving due to personal issues pertaining to my vision. Mike was an excellent instructor to have and I appreciate how accommodating he is for people with different situations like me. He was very calm, collected, attentive and conscious of my concerns & showed me the proper way to navigate the road through his specific notes. Finally, he recommended some accessories I could purchase for when I do get my car that will assist me in driving.
