Fantastic experience: Allen was all business, and that's something I highly appreciate. With the hour we had to practice before the test, he fixed my shoddy K-turns and instilled the skills and confidence in me that ultimately led to me passing my test with little nerves or difficulty. In fact, I was able to get my parallel parking done first-try nearly perfectly, something I'd not imagined I'd be able to do in a million years. He was brutally honest when I did something stupid, which I appreciate most of all; I think paying someone to teach you this stuff and expecting them to sugarcoat it for you would be a great waste of time. Overall, I couldn't recommend Skillful enough. My original lesson was with Ron (I think? Sorry if that's the wrong guy.) Thanks Ron!

Fantastic experience: My son took the permit test, drivers ed lessons, and the road test with Skillfull driving school and they were exceptionally nice with everything and very professional! The driving instructors were all so nice and calm! They answered any questions so nicely! It was a real pleasure dealing with them!

Negative experience: I just got cut off by a guy weaving through traffic on Route 35 North. After passing me, dangerously close, he attached himself the bumper of the car in front of him. Bald, white guy. I was surprised to see the logo from a driving school on the car driving so dangerously. Ironically, I am actually looking for a driving school for my 16yo. It won't be this operation. I notice that a few of the good reviews are fake.

Negative experience: Would not recommend this company, upon driving to work, I was in the middle lane of the parkway, and had to use the passing lane. A female driver, not happy about me getting in front of her in the fast lane, proceeded to motion her arm as if she was j@#king someone off. Once it was safe, I got back in the middle lane and proceeded to let her pass. Once she passed me she gave me the middle finger. That's when I noticed she was operating a car with an advertisement that said: "skillful driving school. To say I was shocked is an understatement. Furthermore, I'm an off duty police officer who was minding my business and going to work. Not sure about you, but this isn't the type of person or business I would hire to teach anyone in this world how to driver, act etc.

Fantastic experience: Highly recommend Mark from skillful driving. I am in my mid 30's and before these classes I was very nervous and had never driven a vehicle. Mark was very patient and helped ease all my fears. He taught me proper techniques and more importantly helped me gain the confidence I was lacking. After several lessons with him/ 3 month probation period . I am proud to say I passed my road test and feeling so much more confident behind the wheel.

Fantastic experience: I was behind a car from this company on the GSP today. After leaving Monmouth County for a trip to Ocean, this was the most pleasurable part of my ride. Very good driver, used turning signals and kept a good flow with traffic. Unlike every other driver today who was absolutely horrendous (you know the deal) seeing the driving skills that this school has literally made my day of aggravation turn into pleasant one. Hands down they were the best drivers on the road.

Negative experience: I was astonished at all the positive reviews here based on my observation. I was driving on 195 West on 5/27 and there was one of Skillfull's student driver cars with 2 students and presumably an instructor. I was stuck behind them for about 10 miles and they were consistently weaving back and forth between lanes. Being in the left lane for NO reason; they weren't passing and they were obstructing traffic. They also nearly caused an accident twice when swerving lanes, not paying attention. Very bad reflection on the instructor and Skillful. If I gave such driving lessons, I'd be appalled and embarrassed if my students drove like that!

Negative experience: On Tuesday or Wednesday someone driving a Skillful Driving School car passed a number of cars from the right side from the shoulder. And driving rather quickly as well. He/she, after passing the cars, made an abrupt left turn on to St. Katherine Place in Lakewood. This happened on Hope Chapel Road in Jackson. Whether it was a student or a teacher, those are not driving skills I think anyone should learn. This behavior does not speak well for this company.

Fantastic experience: I have used this driving school for all my 3 children. From 2017-2022. I can’t say enough about how Esther was so helpful and kind over the years. Especially navigating during the pandemic. Also Both my younger daughters had Josh as an instructor. I highly recommend Josh. He was patient, kind and definitely a confident booster, especially to my youngest daughter. I highly recommend this school to all my friends.

Fantastic experience: Esther is so nice. And I'm very grateful for Josh teaching my younger brother (17 at the time) while being so kind and patient. My brother really appreciated that Josh made the lesson very enjoyable. Sorry to take so long to post a review. The lesson was in July 2020. I think I wanted to take the time to write many more good things, but now I can't remember those details after more than a year.

Fantastic experience: My driving lessons were with Allan back in August and sept. I had my driving test sept 15th and passed with flying colors. I was very nervous taking my first lesson, but as soon as I got In the car with allan he calmed my nervous. He was very patient and understanding. He asked me what I needed help with being I have been driving for a few months being we were in the middle of the pandemic. I need to work on parallel parking and my k turns. Well allannset up the cones for parallel parking and I did it on the first try. Both my lessons were great, allan and I had some great conversations while I had my lesson. He is a very easy going and friendly guy. My sister also needed lessons so I had her call and and she forgot to schedule with allan, but she ended up getting him and she loved him also and she just turned 20. I was nervous about my road test but allan taught me and told me everything that I needed to know to pass the test. I called and schedule allan to take me for my road test. He picked me up about an hour and a half before so we can practice some more. I passed with flying colors. I am so thankful for allan, he taught me well... thank you allan...

Fantastic experience: I can’t say enough about our experience with Allen and Skillful Driving. From the woman on the phone scheduling to the driving instructor, they couldn’t be more wonderful. My daughter was so nervous and thanks to Allen she finished her 6 hours with confidence and a solid foundation to begin driving! I would recommend Skillful to anyone and tell them to ask for Allen!

Fantastic experience: My instructor was Allan and I had a great experience. I got my hours done back to back. It was my first time driving on the road. I would drive in a parking lot for practice and once I tried to go on the road, I ended up getting scared because a car was driving toward me on the opposite lane of course and I felt like I was going to hit it so I pulled over and let my brother drive. When I was driving with Allan i was a little worried at first driving on the road but he was reassuring me that I wouldn’t hit another car and that he had a brake on his side if I got to close. Meanwhile I was driving I would get a little close to the car in the next lane he payed very close attention and notice so he would tell me or he would guide the wheel a little. He had also made sure to tell me how fast I should be going when I’m turning. Allan had also explained how to do a k turn and parallel park by the end of my hours I felt very good in how to do that. My overall experience was great.

Negative experience: I have had 2 lessons with Allan. The first lesson was okay, however the second lesson was not. For both lessons that I booked with the office the instructor asked to modify the time for his schedule. The first lesson he asked if he could get to me 30 mins earlier than the scheduled time because he had to take a student to their road test. The second time he told me he would be there at approximately 9:15 am when the office booked me for 9AM. That was not the worst aspect of my experience as I am a very understanding and flexible person . The worst of my experience took place on my second lesson. I was his first lesson of the day and he seemed tired. He did not appear to remember who I was or what he taught me during the first lesson. When I asked where he wanted me to go he said it was my lesson I could choose where I want to go and that he was not a “babysitter “ . I found that comment to be highly offensive being that it was only the second time in my life driving on a road and I paid a decent amount of money to be taught how to drive yet instead I was being insulted and treated like I was a child. This was very disappointing and made me want to stop and end the lesson right then and their. Yet I really needed a driving lesson so I completed the session uncomfortably. Allan also mentioned that I have someone “ anyone” else taking me driving instead of paying for another lesson . So I could get the basics down. This felt like He didn’t want me to keep booking lessons and felt that I wasn’t ready to continue. Which made me lose my confidence over all. The main trouble I had was with turning but I was okay with many other things like driving/ following the speed limits / stopping smoother/ working the blinker and so forth. On both lessons he took me on the roads all over from Howell, Lakewood, Jackson and had me drive myself home as well. Which is why I am confused that he made the “ babysitter” comment and the comment of not spending my money on another lesson. For only driving twice in my life I think I did pretty well with only making minor mistakes such as needing extra help on turns. Especially learning to drive during a pandemic I wish he had more patience and less tension toward me. At one point he had me drive to a gas station so he could get gas and seem frustrated at the way I pull by the pump. Instead of teaching me where the lever was in the car or asking me to pull the lever so he could get the car filled with gas. He immediately got out of his side of the car walked over to my side opened the door and pulled the lever himself and then closed the door harshly. Which startled me and he knew that was the first time I ever drove into a gas station etc. I did not appreciate that at all. It seem very rude to not ask or even teach me where the lever was located before walking to my side and invading my personal space. The reason I am writing this review is because I care about future students especially young females who may have a bad driving experience with Allan and not understand that it’s NOT okay for someone to treat you like your a child. It’s NOT okay for someone to make you feel uncomfortable especially when you’re learning something new and their is a lot of dangers involved. It’s NOT okay for someone to put the blame all on you and try to persuade you NOT to book another lesson when you’re rightfully a beginner and you need to be taught the “basics” by the driving school you paid to teach you that. I had no problem with the office at all the woman on the phone was great and nice. They reply fast and provide information. However I won’t be booking another lesson based on my second driving experience with Allan. Even if he was tired or having a bad day it’s still his job to teach a lesson and do it respectfully without making anyone feel bad for being a beginner and without letting his frustration out on me. Remember at the end of the day it’s your money being spent and your time being offered and your life in the instructor’s hands to a degree. Choose wisely!

Fantastic experience: All three of my kids completed their six hours with Paul and passed their driver's test first time around. He had patience with each one of them. The woman who answers the phone during COVID kept us updated along the way during the DMV cancellations. Everyone was always professional!

Going to have Allen come back in December to take her for her drivers license exam UPDATE: We used Skillful again the day our daughter was scheduled to get her license. Allen came a couple hours before, went over & practiced the test at Miller Air Park then brought her right to her test (he was able to also get her in for the test and hour early) - my daughter said it worked out perfectly. Skillful did a great job.
