A-1 Driving School

Positive experience: A-1 driving school is good. If you are a beginner and want to learn how to drive (based on my experience), don't choose Ms. Yolanda. you will lose confidence, your excitement. I had 2 sessions with her, I thought she will be finer on the second one. Like she was already having attitude on the first one, but it got worsen on the second. Like she knows that I am still newbie, but she treating me in a rude way. Like there are things that she told me to do, but there is also things that she told me to do this in contrary on the first thing that she said. and she will get mad on me about it. Like on the second session with her (my 3rd appointment), she gave me a silent treatment, after I got confused on her direction. When you said "forward", it means something in front of you, so I am aiming to go forward and go left, coz that what I understand from her. But she kind of like telling me forward to the right. like she really told me "look into my hand", which she was saying to the right. and she even disrespect me from where I came from, like it made me feel so stupid that I looked like I don't know English. But her choice of words are more confusing. I know that we as a driver shouldn't be distracted, but asking me to look on her hands and the way her hands cannot really be seen by side eyes. like goof thing we are not on the main road. And she gave me silent treatment afterwards. like i dunno where to go, I just drive and drive til I actually see familiar road. And when someone honk into us, she yelled to the car behind us. like if she is doing it personally, don't ever show it to your instructor. Be professional. and when we got into my house, she blamed it into me. Like I am being too slow and stuff. Like she told me the reason why they honked at us is because of me. I cried when I go out from that car and never had an appointment with her. and will never have an appointment with her in the future. I just put 3 stars, instead of 5 because of her. But I didn't put 1 star, because we still have great instructors. The instructors are Ms. Gineth and Ms. Delynn. If you are beginner, choose the 2 great instructors. Because of them, I am still giving 3 stars. You will definitely learn from this 2. They will help you a lot.

Negative experience: If I could give less than 1 star I would! Carrie/Kerrie, however it’s spelled is the absolute worst. Every time I’ve been transferred to her her customer service and ability to help has been horrible. She ask for empathy and compassion for her drivers whom had unfortunately experienced life circumstances and I empathized all 8 cancellations, but when I called asking if she could advise of drivers, dates and times that are available she yelled, screamed and did not offer any assistance just direct you back to the site to get the same results. We’ve had over 8 classes cancelled that was scheduled for our daughter. No notice, same day no back up. We’ve taken her out of school to meet availability and they still canceled with no other back up option. It’s been no regards given to our time. She’s stuck waiting on them and almost 2 months have passed. Do better! Scholarships or not, give to others what’s given to you…Respect, Courtesy and Compassion!

Negative experience: Waste of time class. Customer service staff is extremely rude. I spoke to Amy about my certificate at 2:00 p.m. the next day. She kept repeating I would have it by 5:00 and hung up on me. Barely letting me speak.

Fantastic experience: I appreciated the effort given by the instructor, Dr Averhart, to connect with all the attendees in class on Sunday. Regardless of the circumstances that brought us to the class, we were treated with respect. There were issues with a couple of people which resulted in a dismissal from class. However, they were given a very fair chance to ‘come around’, without being judged or ridiculed. I enjoyed being able to do this in the comfort of my own home as well. There were great talking points provided and everyone was encouraged to participate.

Albert is the absolute best teacher -- he taught the information quickly and clearly, and then used anecdotes and humor & interesting examples & questions to help retain the information and keep the attention of everyone during what would otherwise have been quite a dull class. Absolute treasure!

Negative experience: Instructor was very RUDE for absolutely no reason. Her name is Yolanda. Don’t book her. I had a 7 a.m time to start driving and when she texted me saying she was outside. I realized she wasn’t. She went to the wrong location. After she was told what location to go to on the phone, she started arguing and being extremely rude and hang up the phone. When she finally came at the right location, she had an attitude problem and still trying to cause a conflict. I was very calm throughout the conversation. But I decided I wasn’t going to drive with her because she was so heated and wasn’t going to give me the proper training. Yolanda is very unprofessional.

Fantastic experience: Maggie at the Lawrenceville location is a TOP NOTCH professional! She called me after I registered online. She went above and beyond! Perfect Customer Experience, she exceeded my expectations. She not only made sure I was scheduled at the right place and knew exactly where I was going, but she helped me problem solve. She shared with me alternative option that might better fit my needs. A1 Driving School is lucky to have an ambassador like Maggie!

Negative experience: When you call they are not very friendly. You can't even ask a question without being sent to a voicemail then they don't call you back. Very frustrating! I have already paid and I have a simple question that I can't get answers to. Setting up driving was a huge pain BUT the driver was amazing! David Cash was very helpful and a great help to my son. Sadly the office people are not as helpful as he was.

Negative experience: Extremely rude instructor. I came into the car excited and ready for the lesson and it was pretty early, 7am being the time of the lesson and the instructor seemed pretty annoyed that she had to be up so early. It was completely up to her if she wanted to confirm the lesson with me. I did not feel comfortable talking with the instructor as she raised her voice at me multiple times and when I replied she said I had an attitude. We got home 20 minutes earlier than then end of the lesson time. Do not book with Yolanda if you want a smooth lesson

Fantastic experience: Verline Mister was my driving instructor and she was great. I had been needing to get my license and kept pushing it back, I finally got myself to do it and was taught really good skills and tips with such an amazing instructor. I am very glad to have had her help in my process of getting my license. Couldn’t be more happy with her help. She is the best!

Negative experience: Beware. When we signed up for driving lessons no one told us ahead of time that there would be a 1 month wait. It was only after we paid and went to book the appointment that we found out. 6 days before our scheduled lesson we get an email that it is canceled and to rebook. Now there are no openings until mid October. Absolutely ridiculous. I fully intend to call and inquire about a refund at this rate my son will be a grown man before he has his license.

Fantastic experience: I Took The Defensive Driving Course With Dr. Penny Womack-Jackson. It Was A Great Experience Considering How Long We Had To Be In There . She Was Very Considerate Of Everyone And Made Sure We Knew What We Were Doing And That We Understood It . We Laughed And Joked And We All Passed Knowing More Than We Did Before We Left . I Appreciate Dr.Womack-Jackson For Being Such A Delightful And Helpful Person. Thank You A-1 Driving School !

Fantastic experience: Driving training with an in-person instructor at this location was very helpful and informative. Verline offers lots of tips and constructive criticism to further her students driving skills and prepare them for the road test. Definitely an attentive and positive instructor that I would recommend.

Fantastic experience: It was a nice class. Extremely informative and casual at the same time. It was done entirely via zoom, and the instructor had all of us participating in the class, but not to the point of coercion. This kept things from getting boring. Part of it was slides, part was videos, with the instructor facilitating. It was 3 days in a row, and I thought it would go by slow but it actually went by pretty fast. If you are wondering whether this is the school for you I'd say just go for it. You'll be pleasantly surprised.

Fantastic experience: My son attended the Defensive Driving course which lasted approx. 7 hours and the instructor did an amazing job in keeping his attention and being active throughout the entire process. He actually has another class scheduled later this week and he is looking forward to attending that class as well. I would definitely recommended A1 Driving School to anyone in need of a class of just want their teenager to be more knowledge behind the wheel.

Fantastic experience: I had to take this course to lower my insurance rates, and totally expected it to be a run of the mill course that put me to sleep. Thankfully, that was not the case. Mr. Turner did a good job making the course relatable and interesting while interspersing the relevant information throughout the six-hour period.

A-1 staff made the registration steps clear and easy with an informative email prior to the class date answering any questions you might have. Negative experience: I took the virtual class 4/16/2024 (today) and the instructor was actually really rude. Jan Davis is her name. There was no reason for how impatient and mean she was to the class. How could you get angry with someone trying to gain insight by simply trying to ask the INSTRUCTOR a question about the course? I’m glad the course is over . It was definitely a headache!

Fantastic experience: When you have a list of defensive driving courses handed to you from the City of Atlanta Traffic Court ... where do you start? Well, I looked at each one, location, cost and A-1 was the most convenient with a Sunday offering. Though I chose it for the Sunday convenience, it exceeded my expectations. It was clear from the start that this class would be engaging with videos and real life examples, plus some common sense items mixed in. I would recommend signing up for this as it will NOT put you to sleep.

Fantastic experience: A1 is definitely the one place I would recommend for a new driver & a special shout out to my instructor Ms. Verline Mister (Ms.Vee) at the Lawrenceville location ! As a person with major driving phobia & zero experience behind the wheel, I was extremely nervous & anxious to even get started but Ms. Vee made me feel so comfortable from the very start. Her tips are most valuable & so easy to remember. Thank you so much Ms. Vee - you’re the best !!

Fantastic experience: At first I was wondering what in the world could the instructor talk about for 6 hours as it pertains to defensive driving, but boy was I suprised! It was more than just basic "how-to's", but I learned a ton of additional knowledge about a variety of other topics. Our instructor, Albert Turner, was fantastic. He kept everyone engaged and cracked a joke or two :-) I highly recomend A-1 Driving School for the defensive driving call (and my daughter is curently using A-1 for her Driver's Education Program - Joshua's Law Course and I give 5-stars for that as well)

Fantastic experience: (This is Kendell on my wife's account. I don't have a google one.) I enjoyed this class more than I had expected. My instructor was very helpful, and even made me laugh a few times. For a six hour class, I was dreading it, but it was painless, and easy if you pay attention! Also, I completed this class over Zoom, which is great that I could be comfortable at home. As an autistic person, I am not a fan of going to unfamiliar places. Definitely would recommend!!!!

Fantastic experience: I wanted to get an expedited scheduling, and also wanted to do it on my day off on President's day. Sure enough, A-1 had a session available! Registration process was very simple and responses were very prompt. Connection and Zoom instructions were nice. Our instructor, Albert Turner, was the best. He kept everything on order, kapt the focus and engagement active, and he was fantastic with breaks and timing. And he encouraged participation. Overall a great experience.

Negative experience: Really rude instructor. I would give 0 stars but she kind of taught me how to parallel park and reverse park but that was it. She was on her phone constantly and would berate me for not driving well (First time driving in many years). She also constantly grabbed the wheel as I tried to correct myself. Do better.

Fantastic experience: I went in to this class not thinking I was going to enjoy it but our instructor made this class enjoyable! There was a ton of info I really needed to hear and was able to apply as soon as I started driving home! Thanks a1 I will definitely be back when I need to lower my insurance!

Fantastic experience: I had a really amazing time with the program surprisingly. I didn’t expect to get such an abundance of information that I could actually use in real time perspective to move forward with my life habitually, the instructor made me feel very comfortable. There was 9 of us in the class, and we shared real world experiences that helped us each navigate better possibilities, and perspectives. The instructor had us look into ourselves and pull out incite.

Fantastic experience: I took A1's defensive driving course for points reduction purposes on 11/25/2023, and I had a great experience! Maggie, who facilitated enrollment and correspondence was great! Dr. Averhart, the class instructor topped that off with a great course, and I was able to get all 5 points off my license at the DDS. 10/10 would recommend A1 for whatever you require.

Fantastic experience: Wow, I’ve never had such a decent time going through one of these court ordered classes. I took my classes online with Debbie as my instructor, and she was fair, relaxed, and seemed to really care about getting the message of the class to us. I’d HIGHLY recommend A-1’s online courses to anyone who needs a court-ordered DUI Risk Reduction class, as I’ve taken one before in the past and it was like “nails on a chalkboard” boring. Consider yourself lucky if you get Debbie as your instructor, make sure you tell her David sent you to get a smile out of her. ;)

Fantastic experience: I want to start of by saying this location is very professional and has provided me with a lot of knowledge of on the road experience and safety protocols. My instructor, Joel P, was very helpful and patient with the class . If you every indecisive , THIS IS THE WAY TO GO !

Fantastic experience: I took the Dui Risk Reduction program with instructor Freeman and he was great! He kept the class interesting and attentive by sharing with the class his real life experiences!

Fantastic experience: My son participated in your online Saturday class for defensive driving. He said the class was informative and kept his interest. The registration process for the class was very easy and the communication from the program was clear and timely. Even when he lost connection to the class, the program was very responsive to ensure he could get logged back in as quickly as possible.

Fantastic experience: This was an excellent 20 hour class!! Once they get all the rules out of the way (set by the state) we got into some really great and helpful material. Mr. Freeman made the class very interesting and insightful. He knows his material and was never at a loss for a good answer, explained so everyone could understand. Fantastic experience: Although this class was six hours long, I really did learn a lot from it the instructor was Albert turner he made the class very fun, so you can really pay attention and don’t fall asleep. Thanks hopefully this be my last time taking this class.

Fantastic experience: My daughter took the virtual defensive driving course. Before registering, I called and all my questions were answered. After I registered her, they called within half an hour to confirm the next steps. Her class instructor, Yolanda Ford, was very engaging and kept everyone involved, which my daughter said made the 6 hours go by much faster. Once completed, she was told the certificate would be sent via email before the end of the next business day, which it was. Very pleased with this experience and have already recommended A-1 to a friend.

Fantastic experience: This is the second time I’ve used A1 driving school and I was lucky enough to be blessed with Debbie Morris as my teacher-she made the course interesting and welcoming, which was not initially expected. Shout out to ms Debbie as her teachings and advice were very heartfelt and informative, the entire class was pleased at the end as we all had a wonderful experience through not so pleasant material. Thank you A1 for having such a great teacher like Debbie!!

Fantastic experience: I’ve only been to A-1 Driving a few times, but every time I’ve been there they have always been very helpful. They’ve helped me prepare to get my regular drivers license. They’ve also helped me with defensive driving with the virtual online defensive class. The instructor that helped me get my license was very patient with me. I appreciated this because it helped keep me calm when anxiety would get a little high. The instructor for the defensive class Mr.Turner I felt was a very informative instructor. I also thought he did a great job keeping everybody’s attention during the class very well by making harmless jokes that everyone could relate too. A-1 driving is alright with me!!!

Negative experience: First they did not clarify that the class would be virtual until after I paid for it. After completing the class, I was told I would receive my certificate by 5pm Tuesday. I didn’t receive it until 5:30 only because I had to call and email the office multiple times. When they did finally answer the phone, I was hung up on after only getting one sentence out. Edit: I was asked by Mike if my one star review was “necessary”. Completely unprofessional. If you are pressed for time, do not come here at all.
