There seem to be some communication issues here. Yes, we didn't respond to your messages immediately, but that is because you sent them over the weekend when we were closed. When you explained that you were not available because of family members who had COVID we did, as we would with anyone who was prevented from attending an appointment for health reasons, offer to reschedule your lesson to a later date - no fee of any kind required. You declined this offer and instead asked for a refund which we issued the same day (yesterday, Tuesday December 17th 2024). I am looking at the refund receipt right now. It may take a few days for your bank to display the refund, but the money you say we stole has already been sent back to you. If you do not receive that, please contact your bank and then reach out to us [email protected] So, to be clear: We DID respond to you after we got back from our weekend, We DID offer to accommodate you on a different day once your family was feeling better, We DID refund your money. We did NOT steal your money, We do enjoy humor but did NOT laugh at you, We certainly did NOT run away - we don't really enjoy jogging, and we're still right here, conveniently located in Gresham and Beaverton.

Though, even if someone isn't quite able to do all that and pass their test, we're still going to be nice :-) we just can't do anything outside the rules given to us by DMV.

nyishawn - thank you for taking the time to share your experience. While the test appointments are for 30 minutes, and we do ask everyone to arrive early so we can start each test on time, the driving part is only about 15-20 minutes (though people tell me sometimes it *feels* longer!). Just long enough to show off some top notch skills :-)

I absolutely understand your frustration and wish this was a problem on PDE's end so we could fix it. Unfortunately this is an error in the DMV system (there is no "PDE system" - we simply use a web browser to log into DMV2U like anyone in Oregon, input a customer number, birthdate and testing date, and DMV2U tells us "eligible" or "not eligible"; if we get a "not eligible" we can't enter any information, so there is no way for us to input a test score), and we have contacted the group that supervises all 3rd party testing schools about the error in your record multiple times to try to help get your record corrected. For some reason this has been happening more frequently in the last couple of months, and we have been collecting data and delivering it to DMV in hopes that they will get this fixed so no one has to go through the hassle you have been through. The only reason we have rescheduled you was to allow time for DMV to fix your issue, and we have communicated this each time. At your request, when you record again showed up as ineligible to test yesterday, we have refunded your payment to us in full. If there was something more we could do to make your test happen, we would; I hope DMV comes through and you are able to move forward toward licensure soon.

Sir, after you pushed your way past our front desk staff that was trying to help you, barged into my office without any notice and then complained loudly about "the temperament of these women", I still offered to review your test materials to see if you were, in fact, scored unfairly. Instead of accepting this offer, you told me "that woman" had just failed you to make more money, then took out your phone and started to make a call - to whom, I do not know as you then stopped talking to me and walked out. I can understand why, in an emotional state after failing a test, one might think we'd fail someone on purpose to make more money, but that's simply not true. There is no world in which dealing with your hostile attitude a second time would be worth the money we charge for a test.

Kii - I assure you our examiners each do their best to make accurate observations and provide helpful and honest feedback - pass or fail - on what they see during a test. I do read in your review that you did not leave with a clear understanding of what happened and why your test was scored as it was. I'd like to help with that information, but I can't find the name used for this review in our system. If you can please contact us with the name on your test booking, I would appreciate it. You can reach us via text by replying to your appointment reminder, or you can email [email protected] - in either case, please say you are responding to a google review and would like an explanation of your test results.

Thank you for sharing that excellent recommendation. When people list negatives about the DMV "wait time" and "complicated" are usually at the top of the list. We work really hard to keep our schedule on time and moving and to keep the whole process as simple and straightforward as we can. So glad to hear you and your son had a great experience.

Susy, you are not the only client we've had who put off testing (or learning to drive in the first place) because of anxiety. Driving is a huge responsibility, so I don't think anyone is wrong to be cautious about it. So great that we could be part of you managing that stress and getting your license!

Our first review with a Hope pun - thank you Anjelica! We are lucky to have Hope with us every day, and I'm glad you felt comfortable taking your test - congratulations on the pass!

Jay - DMV regulations do not allow for a translator or other third-party person in the vehicle during a test. The ONLY exception to this is when DMV assigns another examiner to observe a test for training or certification purposes. Here are PDE we do allow, and ENCOURAGE, anyone feeling unsure about their English to bring a translator with them - we are happy to work with a client and translator BEFORE the test to go over the directions and help understand the controls of the car, and especially AFTER the test to help make sure the results/next steps are understood and how to implement suggestions for safer future driving (none of us are perfect drivers, so even passing tests will have observations to learn from). When a human translator isn't available we are also happy to pull out Google Translate! I know a lot of drivers are nervous about a language barrier. Fortunately, there are very few words used during a test, and all of our examiners are quite good at using hand gestures. For reference, here are the directions you'll hear during a test: At the street, turn right/left; at the traffic light, turn right/left; pull over and park on the right; return to traffic; park in the space. ...and that's really it! All of these are ALWAYS accompanied by a hand gesture in the correct direction (even without a language barrier, lots of sometimes confuse left/right!). Without wanting to deny your experience, I must disagree and say that I, who only speaks English (many of staff are fluent/native Spanish speakers, and we do have some other languages here as well), have given MANY tests to people who do not speak any English who have done just great (conversely, there are many people who speak great English but don't have the proper driving skill - yet - to pass a test). While sometimes there is mild confusion about a direction, that is never grounds for failure.

Glad to hear using our car was a convenience for you - I know some people are nervous about testing in a "different" car, but we've found it speeds up the process and avoids issues where maybe a client car didn't meet state standards (maybe a malfunctioning tai light or just-expired insurance card, etc.). A nice thing about all our little Kias is they are pretty basic and easy to drive - even if you've never been in one before it's not hard to adapt.

While the test criteria are set by the DMV, so the length isn't up to us (or any other driving school), it does turn out to be shorter than most people expect (especially for folks who've been practicing their driving skills to get ready).

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. DMV has very specific guidelines for how the tests are scored, and our examiners all work diligently to score accordingly. Regarding speed, the DMV standard is to be close to the speed limit when possible, obviously allowing for slower speeds when conditions dictate. In the examples you list, the 14mph in a 20 would be barely in the acceptable range, but the 27 in a 35 would be considered too slow unless there were factors that required the lower speed. If you'd like further clarification, or if you feel like the test you are referencing was scored unfairly, please contact us directly and I will be happy to review the test and provide you with additional information. Regarding refusing service, we will do this in rare instances for very specific reasons. First, if someone makes a threat against any of our employees (in the car or in the office) we will direct them elsewhere for future services; safety is always our priority. The only time someone has been banned based on a review is if they have accused PDE of INTENTIONAL negligence, such as cheating people out of money by unfairly failing a test, racially discriminating against clients, or doing other things that are illegal or immoral. In these cases, if a person truly feels like we have cheated them or discriminated against them, it is hard to imagine they would want to make use of our services in the future. EDIT: I would like to add a thank you for contacting us directly about this - I hope that the specific information I sent you after having reviewed your tests and the errors made on those in addition to the speed issues will be useful toward your goal of becoming a safe, licensed driver.

Denis - perhaps there is some confusion and if so I do apologize. We do not set the testing standards or determine what is or is not acceptable; we are bound by contract to follow the state guideline precisely. There are two ways a driver can fail to meet the state standard. One way is by making enough small mistakes that the score falls below 76 points - these are mistakes like not using a turn signal before a turn or lane change, not stopping in the proper place at a stop sign, being a little bit outside the accepted speed range, etc. The other possibility is that a driver makes, or attempts to make, a more serious error that would likely cause a crash or other harm - such as running a stop sign or red light, cutting off another car or failing to yield to a pedestrian, etc. The DMV calls these Grounds for Immediate Failure, and you will not pass the test if you make just one mistake of this type. This information is explained on the DMV handout that every test applicant in Oregon - at a DMV or private test location - receives. Perhaps we did not do a good job explaining the nature of your error. We constantly work toward better service for our clients, and I will take this opportunity to work with our staff on being more clear.

Hi Aly, I am so sorry our examiner was not as friendly as you would have liked. Taking a drive test is very different from taking lessons and I think you pick up on the fact that we are not suppose to be overly friendly during the drive test. If we were to do that if could cause the driver to be distracted. We just try to keep everything in the car during a test very professional.
