Our comment from DrivingSchools.Directory about Courtesy Driving School:

Courtesy Driving School has received a range of feedback from its clients, highlighting some strengths and notable areas for improvement. Many users have expressed frustration regarding customer service and communication.

  • Positive Aspects: Several instructors, such as Ms. Becky and Mr. Zerilli, have been praised for their teaching methods and ability to create a comfortable atmosphere for students. Clients found them professional, patient, and friendly.
  • Points of Concern: Numerous reviews mention issues with scheduling, including last-minute cancellations and incorrect test locations, leading to significant dissatisfaction. Instructors have been described as rude or condescending in some cases, contributing to a feeling of unprofessionalism.
  • Clients also noted that feedback during road tests could be confusing and at times felt overly harsh, making students anxious during a crucial moment.

While there are positive experiences documented, potential customers should be aware of the mixed reviews regarding communication and instructor conduct. For those considering Courtesy Driving School, it may be beneficial to weigh the positive feedback against the reported concerns.

Negative experience: Courtesy driving school is the worst of all! Heard lots of negative reviews and also I had very bad experiences with them twice. The white old grumpy man who took my road test was very rude and unprofessional. Didn’t bother to introduce himself. Instructions were unclear and if I asked a question he doesn’t answer. And also screamed at me for not getting his accent.

Negative experience: After scheduling my son's driving test, I received a confirmation email. In the email, addresses for testing sites were listed. On the day of the test, my husband took him to the the address listed, no one showed up from Courtesy. I called the following day and they said it was the wrong place. When I explained we went to the address listed in the email, their response was that there was another email sent and they would have told me the address on the phone. No apology for listing the wrong address in the confirmation email. When we did reschedule (at our own cost) we arrived at the correct address 15 minutes early. After 10 minutes we didn't see anyone so we decided to drive to the back of the building, which is not visible AT ALL from the road. There was the instructor. When we walked up, NO introduction or greeting from him. Just a grumpy remark about about being late. NOT the way to talk to a teenager who is nervous. I mentioned we were in the front of the building and AGAIN- a grumpy remark about us being late. We will NOT use Courtesy again not will we recommend them.

Negative experience: My sister went and did her road test with Karen. She would not stop walking the whole ride. When she told her she failed and we asked why she couldn’t even find a reason to fail. I would not recommend going with her at all. Looked like she failed her for money!!!

Matt Bieber 10 months ago

Negative experience: The rumor is they fail you at least once to drum up business. I believe that's true. The road test proctor was 25 minutes late, grabbed the wheel when another driver (on his phone), swerved within his lane. And then failed my kid for that. She then proceeded to lecture the kid - and me. She wouldn't get out of the car when I asked so we could leave. Wish I'd looked at the reviews before I paid.

Negative experience: Honestly, the worst experience I have had with a “service” organization. We were told we could use a credit over the phone when we called back to use it we were treated very rudely (on many occasions) and never gained access to that credit. I would never use them again nor would I suggest anyone else using. Its clear they feel entitled to our money, they have poor training and the person I spoke to was not only rude but not a person that understand customer service, or perhaps even how to smile. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR TIME OR YOUR MONEY

Negative experience: Daughter supposed to have segment 2 in September. Cancelled due to powe outage. On third time where instructor is a NO SHOW for second time. She has missed work and school clubs for this. I have missed work. I should sue you guys. Messing with people. Terrible place. Stay away!!!!!!

Negative experience: My daughter scheduled a driving test with them over the phone. They give her the information however they sent a confirmation email to her. Day of the schedule appointment comes we showed up to the address that’s was on the confirmation email. Waited there for about 20 min. No one showed up called the office they said we were at the wrong address. Went to the correct address still no one was there. When calling to reschedule because technically they had the wrong address in their confirmation email. They stated that we were provided the correct address when she called to book the appointment. Didn’t want to work with us on refunding the money. Lost $70 and if we wanted to reschedule we had to pay another $70 however they were nice enough to waive the no showed up fee. Ridiculous who sends a confirmation email with the wrong address. They have to consider most of the time they are talking to teenagers that learning how to be responsible. It doesn’t help when they are sending people confirmation emails with the wrong address.

Fantastic experience: My daughter had her road test today. She was a little nervous, but our instructor, Karen, was great!! Right from the beginning, she made us feel at ease! She was very friendly and easy to talk to, yet provided instructions and did her job with professionalism. I would recommend Karen to anyone that’s taking the road test with Courtesy! She’s AWESOME

Luciana Dixon 11 months ago

Negative experience: Terrible experience with road test instructor Karen! From the beginning she was condescending and intimidating to my already nervous new driver. She also made judgmental comments about his car. He did perfect on the parking portion, and only had a few minor corrections on the road. When the drive ended she claimed an automatic failure for running a red light in a construction zone. Both my son and husband were blindsided because they saw a flashing yellow light. Karen claimed it turned red as he passed through it. Mind you, she did not mention this as it happened on the road. It seemed she was looking for a reason and took joy in failing him. He retook the test a few days later with a different company and he aced it!

Negative experience: Classes seem fine, but I've called a couple times with general questions and the representatives are very rude and unprofessional, reflects very poorly on the company as a whole.

Negative experience: Had a horrible experience with this company! My son just completed Segment I and I’ve had nothing but problems. Week one we found out about the multiple instructors for a 3 week class. Turns out they ended up having 5!!! Why even schedule that class? I did call the office that first week to express my concern and was told they would pass my complaint to the scheduling director. This FULL class was also not scheduled any drives for an entire week putting the class behind and then cramming drives in before the 4th of July holiday. I waited the 10 days to call the office because we never received his certificate of completion, only to be told he would not receive one because he needed to make up a class that he was marked absent for INCORRECTLY. Yet another office call - only to be treated very rudely - stating there is nothing they can do except schedule a make up class and was totally disregarded AGAIN. Later that afternoon I received an unexpected follow up call from the office, turns out they did some more digging and found out that my son wasn’t absent any days after all - however him and another student were released early for misbehaving one class and that is the reason for the make up class. Funny thing is - it wasn’t my kid. I’ve talked to other students in that class and they all say it wasn’t him and consistently tell me who in fact in was. Don’t pay them $459 and take your kids somewhere else.

Sara Miller 1 year ago

Negative experience: My son took segment 1 and enjoyed his instructor but was unable to do all required drives due to the instructor "not having availability". Then he was told he had to make up one class to get his certificate because his drives were not completed in the allowed time, once again due to the instructor not having availability. At the end of the class, the instructor told him "you will receive your certificate in about 1 week". I called the company about 2 weeks later because we had not received the certificate. I was told he did not meet the requirements and had to take another class. The office refused to believe that the instructor misinformed my son and the mistake was our fault. I do not recommend using the company.

Negative experience: Stay away from this company driving test Romeo site. Had a horrible experience. Total scam. At Romeo site never schedule a test with Karen. She is purposely failing students. And the customer service at this company very rude and unprofessional. Run away from this place. If I could I'll give 0 stars

Fantastic experience: I loved Mr. G best instructor was very funny, made learning fun and was entertaining but taught us a lot. Mr. Myles was fun and good to drive with loved him and all the kids wanted to drive with him as well, very supportive and helped me get better at parking and etc.

Negative experience: DO NOT TAKE YOUR EXAM AT THE CHESTERFIELD LOCATION WITH RICH. I took my driving exam on the 20th with Rich at the Chesterfield location. He didn't bother to tell me if I passed my parking portion, and instead chose to get into my car unannounced and without permission from me or my parent. We turned around to go back to the church mid-test because I physically could not see (he made me get on the road while I was crying), and then wouldn't leave my car when we got back. Instead of "following procedure" he chose to sit in my passenger seat to talk about how his brother died from an accident a few years ago, his daughters friend dying in an accident, and going into intense detail about it, and discussing his own parents funeral. I don't care about you OR your dead family members, especially after hounding at me as soon as you got into my vehicle. I don't know why courtesy chooses to keep him hired while there's other reviews talking about his unprofessionalism and otherwise.

David Payne 1 year ago

Negative experience: If i could give 0 stars I would. This place is a scam, nothing but a cash grab. If something should happen where you couldn't make it to the appointment or if you accidentally forgot to bring something for the road test they just take your money, and recharge you an an additional $50 to.retake it again. Doesn't matter if it was an emergency or not.. all thwy care about is the money. Highly unprofessional, from thw peoples who.eprk thwre, to the instructors, to the their policies. I would NEVER recommend this place.

Negative experience: Super frustrating company to work with—you cannot MISS anything but when THEY cancel classes on you due to weather, sick instructors, etc., they offer zero flexibility on rescheduling or letting you make up via zoom. LONG hold times for phone agents and some of the phone agents are extremely rude. Very expensive process for child to get permit/driving hours/test done through them. I asked my son what her learned in segment two—he said they just watched hours of video about car accidents.

Fantastic experience: I took the Driving Skills Test today at the Pep Boys location in Sterling Heights. I was certainly nervous, but my instructor was very nice and clear on instructions. I’m a self taught driver. I’ve never took a Drivers Training course, and I passed the test with no issues. I believe the reviews are misleading. They will not fail you on purpose so you have to pay the retake test fee. If you happen to fail, just ask what you did wrong and improve on that for the next test.

Negative experience: This school is a joke. The people are unprofessional. Go to a different school. The ladies that scheduled my class were rude and arrogant. I asked to get a refund after my interaction and they told me there are no refunds. The class wasn’t even taken and it was days in advance. Scam!

Negative experience: Location: lamphere highschool in Madison heights . Instructor was supposed to be Tom. Lady on the phone said meet behind the highschool parking lot next to the apartments . No Tom , no cones from 1-140pm on Sunday . There was a football game going on and parking lots were full. Still no Tom. Drove to the other lots in hopes to find Tom the driving instructor. Spoke to general maintenance of the school and he said he saw him earlier in the day by the fence by the tennis courts (next to apartments) he said they probably kicked him out because they are not supposed to have road tests scheduled with events going on with the school. Emailed courtesy ,never responded. Called the following day , spoke to a very very rude older lady said she was "manager" . Explained to her what had happened and would like to reschedule because no one was there . No Tom. , she told me that Tom waited until 130 and left. No refund . If I wanted to reschedule I have to pay another 70$ . No no no. Outrageous!!! What a scam!!! Then she tells me there was no scheduled football games that day and that I didn't follow directions as to where to meet Tom. WTH?? I was waiting , I even drove to the other lots because maybe he was in the mix with all the other vehicles because there was a football game on Sunday 10/15/23 at lamphere highschool !! Why would I lie about not being there trying to find an old white car and cones!? My son needs his license because I am a mother of 6 and need to work and I have a baby with cancer and I cannot afford another 70$ but why would I lie about not seeing Tom !? He wasn't there . But because Tom told them he waited until 130 and my son was a no show that this lady believes him over the customer!? That is the worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life . Never will do business or recommend this place to anyone and I work for a school district !! I will definitely tell ppl not to use courtesy driving school because they are scam artists and very rude customer service ! Oh and the "manager" older lady told me if I can't afford it , I need to wait until I can afford it to reschedule or go with a cheaper company. WOW!! Unreal . Scammers is what they are . I wish I would have read these reviews before ever having my son take segment 1 and road test that never happened . BBB going to review that next. Because this company needs to be stopped from scamming ppl out of their hard earned money.

Negative experience: Don’t get Covid and miss your session it will cost you $275. Because you are supposed to know 48 hour before you are get sick! And to not pay the $275 you need a lab test to prove it. The doctors note i gave them isn’t good enough No one goes to the hospital to get a Covid test! Ridiculous, their system is set up so you pay regardless

Negative experience: Had several issues with this company. Our son took segment one in August and experienced some different circumstances. His instructor broke her arm, drives delayed and spread far apart, than they made him take another zoom class because of the delays caused by them. The last class the instructor said he was a good driver. At any rate he got his permit a month ago and I literally don't understand what the hell they taught him in that class and during 6 drives. He is far from being safe on the road. I am not exaggerating. I know it takes time but he turns 16 in 5 months and I can't even fathom him driving on his own!

Negative experience: I took a road test with Tom five days ago and it was awful. Not a single word was spoken to me that wasn't yelled or condescending, I don't think I have to tell anyone that that is the absolute worst way to talk to someone who is already very nervous, my stress levels were through the roof and it just made everything so much worse. I can put aside the unfriendly and at some points downright rude manner which with he talked to me, but I also have reason to believe I was scammed. I got a warning for speeding right after I turned onto a new road and was told I had missed the sign when I told him that I was looking for a sign. Well guess what? I went back to that intersection the next day and a sign was no where in sight, in fact there wasn't one until a good while past where we exited that road. I talked to some friends that also did their road tests with courtesy, and we realized we all had the same experience (i.e quickly getting failed the first time, having to reschedule, and then passing, but only after you gave them $100). After realizing they all had bad experiences with other testers, and reading reviews, I decided it wasn't worth the risk of having to gamble with getting another bad tester, so I found another place with great reviews, and though I had to end up paying more than what I would have if I just stuck with courtesy, the tester there was extremely kind and compassionate and made me feel at ease, in fact he almost made the whole experience /fun/. Surprise, surprise I passed easily, only five days after I failed the courtesy test so quickly. Oh, one last weird thing, Tom yelled at me for checking my blind spots over my shoulder before changing lanes and told me that's "what your mirrors are for" and "to learn how to use your mirrors before you reschedule." Now, I was checking my mirrors before checking over my shoulders, so he wasn't telling me to make sure I use my mirrors too, he was telling me to only use my mirrors. Everywhere you go they will tell you to check over your shoulder, even courtesy (because I did do drivers ed with them) it is ridiculously dangerous to tell someone not to check over their shoulder, seriously /check your blind spots/. I cannot stress this enough, save yourself money, save yourself pain, go somewhere else (preferably somewhere that isn't notorious for employing people with nasty attitudes. They have a bad reputation for a reason), STAY AWAY FROM COURTESY.

Lisa Vincent 2 years ago

Negative experience: I ignored the other reviews & figured we would see how it went. I should have listened to them. Snippy attitude from start to finish. The lady who was there to do my daughters road test at the Sterling Heights location had an attitude from the start. It was obvious she didn’t want to be there. She rushed through and was very condescending and said if my daughter failed she would cry because she was a girl. If she doesn’t like kids or her job, she should find a new one because her demeanor was uncalled for and unprofessional.

Rachel Moore 2 years ago

Negative experience: I tried to call and make a complaint only to receive a snippy tone, so online complaint it is. My son took his road test today in Chesterfield with Rick. He was unprofessional, talked about his personal problems the entire time including how he was drinking and driving a lot after spending evenings at the bar! Instructor was mad about traffic so he kept having my son make turns abruptly. He told my son to turn right at the last minute but actually meant left, then lectured my son about not looking before making a lane change when he did exactly as the chaotic instructor told him to. He failed my son for "pointing out" but honestly no one would of been able to focus in that environment!

Negative experience: Around 2 weeks ago, I took my road test with Tom Kaleta. Here's my experience: When we did the parking portion of the exam, he seemed incredibly impatient. I would be in the process of parking and he would stop me at around 75% of the way there. For instance, during the parallel parking portion my car wasn't even all the way in the space yet and I was still turning hard left but he told me that was good enough. For reference, my dad was outside and watching me do the parking portion and even he was confused at why I wasn't parking completely into the spot. And it wasn't like I was an incredibly slow or fast/dangerous parker either. But I didn't complain because why rat yourself out if you passed the parking portion. At the start of the road portion of the exam, he told me to make a right turn out of the parking lot. I proceeded to nod my head to show that I understood. However, he complained, saying that I should give him a verbal indication that I understood. I didn't think anything of his remark at that time so at his next set of instructions, I proceeded to casually respond "alright I got you." However, he complained again, saying that "alright I got you" doesn't tell him that I understand his instructions. I was a little confused so I asked him if there was a certain response he was looking for. He told me that he wanted me to either say "yes" or "yes I understand." I didn't see a problem with that so I changed my response to "yes" anytime he gave an instruction. Around 2 times during the middle of the road test though, I slipped up and went back to saying "alright I got you." Both times, Mr. Kaleta gave me a really dirty look and waited for me to correct myself by saying "yes." The thing that creeped me out was that afterwards, he would go "yes, that's how I want you to respond." Now, onto the actual driving part of the exam. We approached a flashing yellow light at a left turn. I proceeded to slow down, look both ways, and since there were no cars, I started making the left turn. As I was doing so, he suddenly screamed to stop my car. I immediately stopped; I was scared because I thought maybe a car was coming at me or the light was actually red. However, after I stopped, I looked and there were no cars approaching and the light was still flashing yellow. I was genuinely really confused at that point. Around 2 seconds went by and the light turned yellow, then red after about another 3 seconds. Mr. Kaleta proceeded to scold me about going during a flashing yellow (?) and then took off points for stopping a little past the white line which I found dumb because he was the one who screamed at me to stop even though I was able to go. A couple of minutes later, we approached another left turn. This time, there was a lot of traffic up to the exact spot where the straight lane splits into two, one for the people going left and one for the people going straight. From what I learned, you shouldn't enter the left turn lane until you reach the opening in the lines a couple of feet ahead. Also, since there was a lot of traffic and the light was red, I stopped and was going to turn into the left turn lane when the light turned green and traffic cleared. Mr. Kaleta scolded me for "ignoring his instructions" and told me to turn into the left turn lane immediately, despite how closely traffic was. I hesitated but did as he asked and then he proceeded to yell at me for turning too close to the car in front of me (??). Later, after a turn, I sped my car up to 35 even though the speed limit was 30 mph. He called me out and I sincerely apologized because I knew I sped a little. He proceeded to immediately lead me back to the testing center. When there, he told me I failed and when I asked him why, he said it's because I was speeding and provided no other reason. So I failed for going 5 miles over the limit?? Took my road test today with another driving school and passed first try. Don't recommend taking your road test with Courtesy (or at least with Tom Kaleta) but I recommend taking Segment 1 and 2 with Mr. Czarnik here.

Negative experience: My child took his Segment 1 training from Courtesy. It was challenging to schedule his driving time as it is only done during classroom time and there was no way for the parent and child to coordinate the signup time and or date. As a working parent, this proves challenging as you coordinate your work day with drive times that seem to happen in the morning and afternoon. Other driving schools use an online tool to manage drive times. When it came time for my child to do his road test, I was hesitant to call Courtesy but ended up trying to schedule with them due to the test locations being in our local area. I scheduled his test 20 days in advance of his test date because I wanted a certain test site. I paid the money and was sent information about the company's cancellation policy, what was needed to test, etc. Less than 24 hours before his scheduled test, I received a call from Courtesy to tell me his test was canceled due to the test site being unavailable for that day and time. When I called back the next day to reschedule the test, I asked for a $25 reimbursement due to Courtesy canceling the road test and all the time I had spent clearing my schedule for the test. Per Courtesy's cancellation language, "If you must cancel your road test appointment, it must be cancelled at least 72 hours prior to the scheduled appointment...if not cancelled 72 hours in advance, there is a $25 charge." When I called Courtesy to follow up I asked for a $25 credit as I did not cancel my son's test and had been inconvenienced. The person I spoke to, Perturbed Patty (not her real name, I was never given a name) was VERY put out I would even suggest this and said she would be happy to refund the initial charge without taking out any money for the reschedule. When I pointed out to Perturbed Patty a full refund is expected as the cancellation was not of my doing she got even more upset. I asked Perturbed Patty to discuss my request with a manager twice. On my third mention of a manager, I was told by Perturbed Patty that she WAS in fact an office manager and had the final say on a $25 credit. Poor customer service. Poor communication. Poor follow-through. Good luck to Perturbed Patty and the rest of the Courtesy gang. I am done with you and your "services". There are other companies out there that I will contact when my next child turns 15.

Fantastic experience: The driving instructor, Karen was great. She was welcoming but also to the point! She made sure everything was checked out before we left, (turn signals, wipers, brakes etc). She mentioned that everyone says that she is the “tough” instructor. She wasn’t tough at all, she was awesome. While my daughter drove, she made her feel at ease and corrected the driving mishaps we all have. Highly recommend courtesy driving school.

Negative experience: Three weeks ago, i took the road test with Tom from the Courtesy Driving School. I had a very bad experience with him. He was very impatient, rude, disrespectful. I said hi to him when he got in my car, he barely answered. I asked him how his day was going- his respond to me was, “it’s going the way it was supposed to”. Of course I failed the test.

Negative experience: Save your money! Kathy failed my son in 5 minutes. I couldn’t understand her explanation of why he failed, but clearly understood her when she told me the good news that the next test will only cost me $40. She never got in the car with him. Horrible experience.

Negative experience: I wouldn’t recommend Courtesy driving school to anyone. My son completed the segment1 course and passed the written test a month ago and we are still waiting for them to complete his behind the wheel driving with an instructor so he can get his level 1 license. Communication with us has been horrible and they seem very unorganized or incapable to complete the course on time.

Ashish Rungta MD 2 years ago

Negative experience: The instructor will often cancel driving lessons at last minute. After completing the course, they take forever (weeks!!)to process the paperwork so teen can get their permit. Teens by their very age are inpatient & not having their permits soon after completing this course shows the company's lack of understanding of working with teens they are trying to train.

Negative experience: This is an accurate statement!! Both my daughters a many years ago had a great time during drivers training there. But their two brother just went together a year ago and it was the worst! My younger one never drove!!! The instructor traumatized them in the car say they were going to kill there families and sat with his feet on the seat holding his knees and would get the roof of the car, while yelling at my sons. It was bad and I had two kids in the car saying the same things so I believe them and the fact only one ended up getting his drivers license. T my sensitive soul did not and has no interest in driving but was so excited when I was teaching him at stony and he drove good. Parents I would suggest going elsewhere.

Negative experience: Their policy for cancellations and charging you for it is unreasonably strict in a money hungry policy. I called to reschedule within hours of scheduling because of vehicle problems with almost 24 hour notice and they charged me anyway, even after me asking for the understanding of it. You may as well not even call to cancel. I wish I hadn't even picked them for my school driving needs

Aven Mcintosh 2 years ago

Negative experience: Courtesy disturbingly had no interest in resolving a situation that happened with a road instructor. The road instructor came up to my car and started coughing inside of the car from the drivers window so much that spit was hitting both mine and my minor brothers skin. She proceeded to accuse us of spraying air fresheners which didn’t exist within the car. She proceeded to gag and cough inside of the car AT US almost purposefully. She proceeded to call my African American brothers Afro “one crazy Afro on his head” in the most disgusted voice ever. She was yelling at us not giving me any time to collect all of our papers even though we showed up 20 minutes early. This whole time she was coughing directly inside of the car, it seemed she was exaggerating her reaction to intentionally hit us with spit. This definitely seemed like a racially motivated act to me. I have never heard of this behavior before. We ended up rescheduling the drive because we were unaware the adult accompanying the minor for the minors test needed a up to date physical drivers license (mine was a photo copy awaiting a replacement) When we rescheduled I asked for another lady because I was fearful this lady was going to spit on us or yell at us again it comment on our skin color or hair like she had before. They said they had no one else available so I requested that the lady that spit on us wear a mask for the drive. There were no other road test places abaible for the next two months and my brother decided he wanted to stick it out in hopes of receiving his license. The day before his test courtesy called and said they were canceling our test and not rebooking because of the mask request. Meanwhile courtesy tells you to bring a mask in Their confirmation email. They refused to rebook us and refused to refund at first. We only got 60$ back from the 90$ we paid and the manager seemed to want to argue rather than listen about how the road tester treated us. We all were in disbelief. Courtesy protects road testers that display racist behavior and say racist remarks. they also protect road testers who spit on clients and refuse to comply with a mask request because of said spitting. This was an awful experience I hope anyone in the traverse city area with black or brown children avoid this establishment. Who knows what wouldn’t happened if she had entered our car.

Negative experience: BE AWARE - ABSOLUTELY NO REFUNDS. My son turned 18 a month ago, and as such, there is no requirement for him to use a driving-school. I was unaware of this, and despite it being less than 24 hours after I registered and paid, I was told no exceptions, no cancellations. This cost $449. Only AFTER registration and payment does the site say that those over 18 are required to take a test at the secretary of state, and pay $25 for a Temporary Instruction Permit, and that it is a requirement on the first day of class. In addition, their site allowed me to register, fully knowing his age, despite them offering a $200 option which is intended for those over 18. (It is buried at the bottom of the frequently asked questions page under 'general') They would also not let me switch to this cheaper option. Courtesy will not be receiving any future business from me for my remaining children, and I will also be very vocal with anyone asking me opinions of driving-schools. The manager was very clear that there was no exceptions regardless of reason, and when I asked why, she said it was for reasons of keeping availability in the classes, for other customers. Somehow they were fine with me switching to a LATER class, so it certainly seems it's more about greed. The spot opened up when I moved to a later class, just like it would have if they had refunded my money. Be careful and do your research! **UPDATE** The manager called and offered another option - to remove the classroom instruction, and simply provide driving lessons. She reiterated that it is their policy to give no refunds. Seems like that is paramount, and not customer satisfaction.

Fantastic experience: I just finished my Segment 1 class at Milford High School with Ms. Becky. (I still have 30mins of makeup and 2 drives as of posting this) She was an amazing teacher and never yelled at anyone for messing up. She was very helpful in the call when I was feeling nervous and she NEVER yelled at me and my driving partner. The one part I didn't like so much was that I had to schedule drives and not my parents, but it wasn't that difficult, just kinda tedious since I had to constantly check with my mom that we were available on certain dates. But Ms. Becky was an awesome teacher, and as a 15 y/o Milford student, I definitely recommend it. It was the most affordable for my family ($450) and worked very well for my schedule. It's right after school and is only 2 hours long per class. Definitely recommend!

Negative experience: Since when are the teachers allowed to park in a handicapped space, with no tags? He was eating at a small twin restaurant that we were also eating at. Tasteless and tacky. My charge is in a wheelchair, and he took up that spot. It really makes me sick. He was parked there for about an hour.

Negative experience: My husband called this place to see about scheduling a road test for our son. A female psychopath answered and asked “Am I on speaker?” and hung up. She wasn’t on speaker, didn’t give him a chance to respond. After reading some reviews here I’m glad they hung up and we didn’t give them our business.

Renee Parish 2 years ago

Negative experience: Worst experience ever. I would never encourage anyone to send their child to have a road test here. The instructor was rude and kept telling my child I'm going to fail you 5 min in and did. Took it again something. For him following directions. Never again.

Fantastic experience: I had a great experience and learned a lot. The main reason I passed my test was because of my teacher mrs Becky who was very nice and good at teaching. courtesy is a great choice for getting your level 1 learners permit.

Positive experience: I was a student In the Milford driving class. She was a very a intelligent lady but very strict I wasn’t able to get up and get tissues. However the class is good and I would recommend it.

Negative experience: This is one of the worst if not, the worst business I have ever dealt with. I wish I could give them 0 stars. They don’t deserve 1. Not only are the employees not knowledgeable, the manager Mary Jo is extremely rude and not empathetic to the issues we have had with them since they CANCELLED MY SON’S LAST DRIVE IN OCTOBER. It is almost February and my son still doesn’t have his permit. They LOST HIS DRIVE CARD, wouldn’t reschedule his last drive, couldn’t get a call back from a manager for over two months…. They offered us NOTHING for months of wrong information and issues. All they said is my son needs to make up 4 hours of time because of regulations. All because THEY CANCELLED HIS DRIVE!!!!!! So my son didn’t miss ONE CLASS of Segment 1 but has to wait months for his last drive and has to take 4 hours of class all excuse of this ridiculous “business.”

Fantastic experience: Mr. Zerilli is such an amazing instructor. you can really tell he loves his job by the jokes he cracks and the laughs we share while learning all we need, in order to become the best drivers we can be. he really made me feel comfortable to drive as i was super nervous at first. i truly appreciate the way he cares about each and every one of us throughout this driving experience. Thank you Mr. Zerilli once again :)

Fantastic experience: I am writing regarding Mr. Zerilli. He is the best driving instructor there is. I was scared to drive at first but he helped me get through it. He is very welcoming and funny. It helps you ease into the driving. Hes good at what he does.

Fantastic experience: This driving school was outstanding. They treated me and my classmates respectfully and we had no problems. My instructors and teacher were all great and very welcoming and kind. I highly recommend this school. Thank you to Mrs. Buscemi, Mr. Hann, Mr. Daniel, and Mr. Kagoga.

Negative experience: They did not upload the required documents after completing the course. It's been over a week since completion and we can't get the permit without the certificate of completion. When calling the number you cannot speak with a person to resolve the issue either. Strongly recommend a different school.

Fantastic experience: I had Ms. Valente as my teacher for driver’s education. She made the class enjoyable and easy to understand, I don’t know if I would’ve done as well as I did if it wasn’t for her. I was very anxious and nervous my first day but she created a friendly atmosphere that made it fun to come to class. Thank you Ms. V!

Fantastic experience: I had Mr. Porter for segment 2 through rockford & zoom. He was a very kind man and his class was very enlightening, and helped to ease my anxieties for driving. I was so nervous taking segment 2, but when I saw there was an online option I felt better and it proved to be so. I enjoyed doing online, especially as a busy senior in high school, and the gimkits were engaging and fun.

Henry Caulkins 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: I took online classes with Mr. Porter for both my segments and it helped me a lot with time management and I was much more interested in learning the material with the online material provided by Mr. Porter. We did Gimkits as a class that kept everyone concentrated on getting the questions right and I learned a lot from the google forms that we were given.

Fantastic experience: Curtisy Driving school great experience. Going into the class I thought I wasn't going to learn anything but after taking both segment one and two I have learned so much! I am from Rockford MI and I took it with Mr.Porter and he made each class very engaging and super fun!

Negative experience: My friend goes to this driving school, I’ve seen and heard about illegal driving, mostly ignoring signs saying to go right or left, then they go straight.. if you’re a driving school do it legally, this doesn’t teach anything and can be a hazard to other drivers like myself. I cant believe they have such incompetence it’s astonishing to me that they are legal to be educators on such important and dangerous topics. Be ashamed.

Fantastic experience: Mr. Leonard is such a kind individual! He is very friendly and patient, making practicing driving a very smooth experience. After the pandemic, I hadn’t driven for such a long time that I got nervous to drive on freeways. But Mr. Leonard was so caring when teaching me and getting me use to driving again, that I’m way less nervous than I was before. He was anything but strict, and he talked to me and lead me through the process as if I were a close friend, and that made me feel much more comfortable about driving than I ever was before. I highly recommend taking his driving classes, especially for anyone nervous about driving. Mr. Leonard is such a kind soul and I look forward to taking more classes with him.

Negative experience: Save your money and go somewhere else. My experience was terrible with them and it isn't worth the 60 dollars they steal from you. Find a better instructor! The lady (looked similar to the google review photo of a blonde woman) was extremely rude and didn't try to have a conversation with my mother with a simple "how are you?" Failed me during parking and got lectured about the driving process which I didn't get to. She was stingy about reverse parking and told me about how she has failed thousands of students...yes, I'm sure she has because she was extremely rude and unforgiving! Oh and the woman on the phone sounded like she did not want to help me at all and tried to rush me to the payment part. Did not seem courteous at all when she couldn't hear me at times.

Fantastic experience: Today I learned 5 new ways to park with Mr. Len. Not only was he very informative but he was also very patient with teaching. He’s also a great instructor to drive with.

Fantastic experience: I had Mr. Hilbert for four different drives. I was very nervous in the beginning but he made me feel very comfortable and I learned a lot from him being my driver instructor.

Rachelle Whitaker 2 years ago

Negative experience: Driving instructor was great. However, the tester was atrocious! K lacked communication skills, was rude and impatient. She's testing new drivers not friggin rocket scientists. After reading some of the reviews I am convinced there are multiple people with the same name, because our K was awful.

Nekole Cruz 2 years ago

Negative experience: Staff was unbelievably rude to my daughter when she called to get assistance with logging in. They sent the information to the wrong address! Then on top top of it when I called to speak to the manager to get it rescheduled she was rude. Had to pay 1/2 because she missed the class. Its our fault that we didn't realize that we were missing information. I would NEVER use them again. Terrible customer service.

Fantastic experience: My son just passed his road test with Karen from the Waterford location and it was awesome! Karen is awesome! There are quite a few negative reviews on here about a lady named Karen and I am thinking there has to be 2 different Karen's because "our" Karen was outstanding! She greeted us with a positive attitude and put my son to ease as he was extremely nervous. She maintained a perfect balance between giving my son driving directions, speaking with me, and just overall making sure she was professional yet still lightening the mood and making us comfortable. It was like chit chatting with an old friend. You are a blessing Karen! Thank you!!

Negative experience: Had my drivers test today with my brother at Pepboy auto parts, the lady in this location is the absolute worst human being on the face of the earth. She'll take you on extra long rides and look for any imperfections to fail you. do not go to this lady!

Kristin Moore 2 years ago

Negative experience: After paying almost $450 for the training, I am frustrated to incur a $30 fee for a missed drive. When I signed up for the Level 1 training, I was provided an email with all class dates and times and I was contacted when those dates/times had to change prior to the start of class. But once class started, all scheduling was done with my 15 year old. He scheduled his drives and would typically send me a note so I could get it added to our calendar. But many times, class was cut short because they were supposed to watch a video but the instructor did not have the necessary permissions on the equipment at the school. This also led to a change in an after class drive. My 15 year old forgot about the change and we showed up for his drive at the originally scheduled time - which caused him to miss the new scheduled time. When we arrived at the originally scheduled time, we called Courtesy but it was after hours and the only contact information we had was email so we sent an email 8 minutes after our originally scheduled time. This shows our intent on keeping his scheduled drive but there was obviously a breakdown in communication between my 15 year old and the instructor. Courtesy needs to find a better way to communicate drive schedules AND CHANGES which includes the parents similar to the way the original scheduling was done.

Kelly Knight 3 years ago

Negative experience: If I could give zero stars, I would. This is the most unprofessional group I've encountered with having had 3 of my children take driver's training. After taking the Segment 1 classroom and then scheduling the drives, the instructor then cancelled the scheduled drives. Courtesy did not get replacement instructors in time to meet the 3-week window required by the State of Michigan. Because of their lack of proactively resolving the issues, many students (not only my daughter) had to re-take (2) 2-hour classes in order to fully complete Segment 1. Poor communication or genuine care and concern to do the right thing and lack of regard to owning the issue at all. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. Update: Courtesy did come back later and only require (1) additional 2-hour training rather than 2, which helped. It went through their leadership team to get to that decision as their managers did not have authority. I still stand by my review but wanted to post the whole story and it’s conclusion.

Fantastic experience: We had such an amazing experience with Karen! My son failed the first 2 times and with his behavioral and mental challenges, he didn’t take it well. I appreciate the way Karen encouraged him and was able to handle him the situation. She is very professional and personable. We felt like we developed a relationship with her over the course of 3 road tests and she was just as excited as we were when he finally passed. I highly recommend Courtesy Driving School and especially Karen as your instructor.

Negative experience: My son took driving lessons here. The driving portion filled up and he wasn't able to schedule his final two drives. They refuse to answer the phone or contact us to complete the class we paid for. He's had a make up classroom session and they still won't do what is neeeded despite saying it's not a big deal.

Mostafa Miasy 3 years ago

Negative experience: I had the worst experience with this woman. Here is an example of her pushing the cones and after she had them set up for at least a half hour while she waited for me to get to the driving site. For what reason would she be pushing the cones in closer before I take my parking Exam? I think she’s related to someone in courtesy driving school because she has so many bad reviews, racist towards people, even slapped a girl in the face and is completely rude to you when you arrive. I have a paper permit from the state of Michigan and I have two copies of that piece of paper. She refused to allow me to take my exam the first time that I scheduled because my piece of paper was a copy of the other piece of paper. She told me we were done and she would not give me a test!? Next time I arrived, she spoke rudely to me, she did not allow me to finish the exam. She did not like the color of my skin. She lied about me failing to park when I did really good. Courtesy managers back her up completely and they reported my fake exam failure to the state while I was on hold with their office. Do not get a test from courtesy. If I honestly failed to park I would not waste my time but they want to keep the money I paid and they don’t care how rude she is.

Fantastic experience: I took segment 1 of drivers training on zoom with Mr. Porter. It was very easy and fun. I really enjoyed doing the gimkits. I highly recommend this class.

TTV_ Swevy 3 years ago

Negative experience: I am very dissapointed in the services they provide. All they had my class do was worsheets and never gave us refrences. They only had one driver who was very uncomfortable with kids driving. with only one driver it took them 6WEEKS after the class to finish all the students drives and would prioritize the new class over the previous class. this is a terrible course in the grand blanc area and i highly advise you stay away from this class.

Ebony Williams 3 years ago

Negative experience: I do not recommend! My son passed parking and perfect driving. So I thought ! We got done with the test and parked and the instructor did not pass him because he says he cut off a car. Mind you I’m in the car as well and that was not true at all! I’m really still in shock that this instructor will make up this lie and not pass him. He had no points at all but automatically failed him because he says this. I was even crying because I couldn’t believe this man said this and my son drove perfectly and safe with no mistakes. I would advise to take your road test elsewhere. Do mot recommend. I’m soo upset.

Negative experience: *REVIEW REGARDING THE ATHENS DRIVING SCHOOL* Trash driving school. The teacher leading the class is not good at all, and cannot schedule anything correctly. When my brother and I were scheduling our drives, he scheduled our last ones in early august, when there were spots open during July. Expensive for no reason. During class the teacher does not teach anything, you just spend 3 weeks working on worksheets. There were instructional videos we were supposed to watch, but the teacher could not even set the tv up so we had to watch them 2 weeks after we should have seen them, after we all completed our first drives. Complete waste of money and time. After we finished the class, they had scheduling conflicts and did not schedule additional drives. My father called them multiple times over the course of a month and they did not do anything. It took them an entire month to call us back to schedule the drives. The teacher cannot even take attendance either, as his lack of ability in taking attendance was the reason as to why I had to make up a class that I did not even miss. Take it from me, as a student, don't send your kids here this place is trash and overpriced. Update: Even more disappointed with this driving school. They finally scheduled my final drives with my brother last week, 2 MONTHS after we finished the class. I call today to get an update on my certificate, and she tells me that I need to make up 2 more classes because I did not complete my drives in the correct time frame, which these drives were not finished in the correct timeframe because of their terrible scheduling. They did not even call my father to reschedule these classes. Had I not called them for an update, imagine how many more months it would have taken them to call me about this situation. There was a reason I did this class in the summer, it was because I have stuff to do in school. I'm a senior in high school this year, I don't even have time for these things. At this point I don't even care. The Athens location is completely terrible. The class that is run by Mr. Z is complete trash. There is no refund policy for this garbage course. What's amazing is that the make up driver they had that took me for a drive even told me that the Athens location is terrible.

Cam 3 years ago

Positive experience: I liked Courtesy better than in person classes because its way more convenient for my parents with work especially in the summer. Its easier because in Mr Porters class (Rockford Mi) we started at 6:15 towards the end of the day so its easier.

Christina Justin 3 years ago

Negative experience: I wish I'd seen the actual reviews before scheduling a test. The instructor was very rude to my husband, responding to 'good morning' with 'Is it a good morning?' then failed him because he didn't parallel park well and ended the test there. He didnt even get to go on the road. When he called their customer service to ask if that was standard procedure, he was told they allot for 6 points and he must have messed something else up. We had paid extra to rent the car too so they got $90 from us for nothing.

Nellie Wunsche (poppysleeper) 3 years ago

Positive experience: My son completed segment one in Romeo, passed the test and everything, had to wait another month to get his permit because he couldn't get his instructor drives all done because of instructor availability. That is acceptable I guess, but...the first few hours of riding with my son I had to explain a lot of stuff to him about driving that should have been taught to him. For $430, he should not be telling me his teacher never told them that.

Advspringbonnie 3 years ago

Negative experience: Don't go here. Sure, the zoom classes themselves were alright, even though most of the worksheets had no good sources to find the answers and mostly are just guessing, but the drives... not great. There were only 2 instructors, and for all my drives I had Mr. Henry, who is TOO OLD for this. On one drive he left me and my partner in-between our drives for 40 minutes without warning because he had to 'fix his phone' at the Verizon store. After that, he was on said phone during my whole drive, not paying attention to me, occasionally whispering a command. At the end, he gave me everything at the lowest possible score because I couldn't do 1 method of turning perfectly, after giving me higher scores before. And also, that drive was only about 35 minutes long, compared to the hour I was supposed to have. The next drive, my partner randomly got 30 extra minutes of drive time, which worried our parents as we were late. He also knew I needed to make up some time but decided to have my partner spend all that time anyways. AND NOW, on top of everything else, he rescheduled my most recent drive from 10-12PM to 1-3PM, because of a 'family emergency,' but that's not the problem. He never showed up after we showed up early to make up my time. Why? HE MEANT TO SAY THE DRIVE WAS AT 3PM INSTEAD! Our parents tried calling their office, who shrugged it off saying "we can't get a hold of him right now" as if it was no big deal. Absolutely awful, go somewhere else, these people need to hire younger people, you could learn more by stealing your parent's car and testing it, waste of money, you don't even deserve the time I'm spending to type this.

Fantastic experience: I did private driving lessons with Mr. Daniel and I was impressed with the level of confidence, patience and compassion he had during our drives. I have severe anxiety, so it makes me quite nervy being on the road and learning new driving skills, but he was attentive to my learning style and made it his mission to explain the steps of parking and driving to me in the most easiest to understand way for me personally. He even did me a solid by accomodating one more drive for parking even though scheduling was very busy at that time and it really helped me feel better prepared for my road test!!!I would highly recommend this driving instructor. He made the impossible seem possible.
