With our location in the heart of Lafayette and Youngsville, Southwest Safety leads the Way in driving excellence in Lafayette. It offers many safety courses, equipping small/large businesses, local government businesses, and the surrounding schools. Various driving and safety courses are offered here at Southwest Safety Training. With 30 years of experience, we continue to provide excellent services to the surrounding areas. We offer a range of driver education services and other safety courses tailored to meet your specific needs. We train employees for small and large businesses, local government employees, and the surrounding schools.
My name is Rev. Dayne Huval, and I am proud to be the second-generation owner of Southwest Safety Training, Inc. The other day, I had a conversation with a customer that I felt compelled to share with you. They asked me, “Why Southwest Safety Training, and why is it more expensive?” My response was simple: We are the best driving school in the area, and here’s why.
For nearly thirty years, we have been Acadiana’s leader in driver education, making us the oldest and most experienced driving school in Lafayette. Over the years, we have not only trained thousands of students but have also helped shape the industry itself. My mother and I have both served as Presidents of the Driving School Association of Louisiana (DSAL), and we were instrumental in guiding the Office of Motor Vehicles when they took over the oversight of Driver’s Education. Today, I continue to hold leadership positions in both the Louisiana Council on Driver Education and DSAL, ensuring that our industry moves forward with the highest standards.
Our pricing reflects the exceptional quality of education we provide. We invest in the best instructors, the largest fleet of driver’s education vehicles in Acadiana, and an industry-leading curriculum from AAA—the most highly regarded in the country. Unlike many of our competitors, we do not cut corners. Our instructors take the time to teach critical skills—including parallel parking, which many schools skip entirely.
We know that every dollar matters, especially in today’s economy. But some things in life should never be compromised—your child’s safety is one of them. Driving is a skill that, when taught correctly, can mean the difference between life and death. That’s why at Southwest Safety Training, we ask ourselves every day:
Our legacy is built on trust, experience, and excellence. With over 45,000 trained drivers in our parish, our impact on the community is undeniable. When choosing a driving school, remember—there are plenty of options, but only one leader.
I invite you to join the thousands of families who have entrusted their children’s safety and future to Southwest Safety Training, Inc. We are more than just a school—we are a mission-driven institution dedicated to saving lives through education.

Southwest Safety Training: Opiniones
Experiencia negativa: I came here three years ago. I hadn't driven at all before. The teachers didn't care and each of them bullied me in different ways. The first instructor was an angry elderly guy who asked "Do you even wanna drive?!" (I paid for the lessons myself and my abusive mother threw a severe tantrum over me enrolling and demanded that I refund it and only let up after I explained multiple times that it was nonrefundable.) Yes, I wanted to drive. The next instructor was an older woman who made sarcastic comments the entire time. After this, the staff made me take a test before I could continue lessons. I took the test right away and passed it. The next instructor was an older woman. She said I wasn't making progress so they were making me start from scratch. She made a bunch of bullying comments until I finally got bothered enough that started tearing up. She acted shocked as if she hadn't spent forty-five whole minutes bullying me. I didn't go back for months after this. When I came back, this guy came up to me and led me to my mom's car so he could speak to my mom. He refused to speak to me directly (all the staff did) even though I wasn't a kid. He explained to my mom "Before she can continue she needs to go to the hospital to get tested for a learning disability." I saw that my mom who's abusive and has anger problems was struggling to hold back her anger. I forget how she responded but I know she just denied it. He replied "I'm not trying to... offend anybody. She didn't improve." My mom explained that I graduated high school early and was in college early (which is true.) The guy asked me what i was studying at college (he chose then to speak to me directly) because I guess he thought my mom was lying and he wanted "proof." I went up to the desk to schedule more sessions and the woman mockingly said "That'll be $1,000." I didn't have a card because I asked them before I even started lessons if I'd have to pay if I needed extra ones and they'd responded no. I think the woman at the desk was trying to suggest I had no money, but I DID have money, much more than $1k. I was the one who paid for the lessons in the first place. I went to the car and told my mom that they wouldn't let me schedule more lessons. She could only talk about how offended she was about the "learning disability" thing. She blamed their behavior on me being black. I expressed that they were just frustrated at my lack skill and that their behavior had nothing to do with me being black. Nowadays I realize it probably WAS because I was black. I didn't return here after that incident. My experience here was awful. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. I'm moving to a different state soon and if I wanna drive there, I'll have to get my license within 60 days. I hope the driving school there isn't as awful as this place.
Experiencia negativa: 0/10 wouldn’t recommend going here for your driving hours. My daughter drove with instructor Rachel and hated it. She was a frantic and very distracting instructor which could have made the experience much better if she knew how to teach properly.
Sorry to hear you had this experience. This instructor is no longer employed by us.
