Uptown Driving School

Experiencia fantástica: One of my new years resolution for 2023 was to get my drivers license. I got it yesterday. Yay! This driving school schedules the road tests in New Rochelle, the speed limit is faster there (30 mph vs the 10-25 here in Inwood). I took my first exam in August 2023 with the other driving school in the area. The experience left me unsettled because the instructor there was quick to temper. I do not respond well to being yelled at, especially in confined spaces. It made me realize how important it is to be comfortable and build trust with an instructor. Luckily I found that with Greg Myers. He's a little kooky, but a good bean. He's got toy cars, a clipboard, and a tape measure. He will measure out how far you are from the curb when parking, and even find the right angle/ cue for your perspective in a car. I am very short, so that helped a lot. He'll help you gain a spatial awareness of a car in motion, and how your actions behind a steering wheel look on the road. He readily gives feedback on what you're doing - wrong or right. It helped me build confidence. In total I took 13 lessons with him. (I combined some of them for 1 longer 90 min sessions). Sometimes he's a little over zealous with the brake, especially when starting out, but I get it, the instructor brakes are there for a reason and he's not trying to die. Especially useful since I always feel a pinch in my stomach when I have to accelerate backwards when parking on a hill. In his words "I've got you". Thats what I need in a teacher, and Greg delivered. If you're anything like me, and need someone with patience and grace, give Greg a try.

Experiencia negativa: I waited to write this review till after I got my license but now that I do. Honestly f this school, I truly believe this school took advantage of me since I am young and didn’t know the process as I do now. They honestly robbed me, didn’t make me feel ready at all if I can give this school a 0 I would. I would not recommend this school to anyone. After I failed I never came back. I found a different school and passed. Worst financial decision of my life. Also they had to cancel one of my lessons and then doubled the next one in order to make up for it. So I really got 5 lessons instead of the 6. I achieved on getting my license but no help from this school at all. Edit: I went back to this review and for some reason it’s no where to be found on other accounts. Are you guys really blocking reviews?

Experiencia fantástica: Greg is an extraordinary teacher! He is very patient, friendly and helpful in many ways. After each driving lesson, told me what I could improve on during my next lesson. I improved tremendously from the very first lesson to the last lesson. With Greg's help, I was able to pass my road test first try. Thank you Greg!!!

Experiencia fantástica: My experience at uptown driving school was nothing but a great experience. From the time that I walked in and was welcomed and greeted with the friendly staff. Greg the driving instructor is absolutely amazing !! He’s knowledgeable and will do everything in his power to make sure you are ready and prepared to pass your road test. He is extremely patient, kind and overall a wonder person. He believed in me and I believed in myself because he taught me well. I passed my test on the first try and it’s all because of Greg!!!!
