Our classes are fully certified by the SC-DMV and AAA with seasoned professional instructors who have served in the industry for years. We train in driver’s education for teens and adults, and defensive driving for individuals and businesses. We administer the Beginners Permit Test and the SCDMV Driving Test. Most insurance agencies will give you a discount for taking our comprehensive course!

We maintain a truly professional staff that cares for the safety and well-being of the driver. James Island Driving School provides traffic safety instruction to encourage and develop safe, responsible, and defensive driving habits.

Anthony Fralix, born and raised in Charleston on James Island and an alumnus of James Island High School, founded James Island Driving School (JIDS) in 2010, emphasizing a family-oriented approach.

With over 24 years of experience in Defensive Driving, Fralix holds certifications from AAA and the SC DMV for Drivers Education. Alongside his wife, he’s also licensed by the SC DMV for Third Party Testing, ensuring top-notch training at JIDS, leveraging his vast expertise for superior driving instruction sessions.

Penny moved to Charleston area in 1979 and calls Charleston home! She has been a licensed instructor since 2012 and a Third Party Tester since 2016.

She enjoys teaching students drivers education and hopes that her training will help them drive safer and defensively so they can get home safely!

Now, as a driving instructor at James Island Driving School, he is dedicated to teaching students safe and confident driving in congested Low Country roads, drawing on his extensive background and personal experiences.

Experiencia fantástica: learn a new skill it is exited and sometimes stressful. At 37 years old, I couldn’t longer keep avoiding learn to drive, specially with a younger daughter. So finally I started the beginner training with Scott, he gave a great foundation and confidence. I took the wrong choice to test at DMVI , that let me with a bitter experience, a blank space cause they didn’t gave me a feedback about what I failed or needed to improve. So , I decided to give some time and recover my self confidence. I went back to JMDS and I took classes with Penny, she helped me to polish my driving skills and recovered my self confidence ( at that time just think about being tested give me anxiety). Penny is compromised on make of you an excellent driver. I’m so thankful to Scott and Penny. I keep them on mind each time that I hit the road. Thanks so much for your service.

Experiencia fantástica: James island driving school is a school that’s really focused on making students aware of all obstacles needed to be a disciplined driver I was taught by Ms penny and she was stern but helpful and I got my drivers license because of her experience behind the wheel I highly recommend James island driving school to anyone who is looking to be better at driving or is looking to get a driving license

Experiencia fantástica: I had a fantastic experience at James Island Driving School, thanks to Ms. Penny. Her knowledge and outstanding communication skills greatly benefited my anxious teen during road training sessions. Ms. Penny also provided valuable suggestions for developing custom practice strategies, which helped my daughter build the confidence to overcome her driving anxiety. I highly recommend James Island Driving School for their excellent service.
