Upon completion, he felt fully prepared and confident to take his permit test. My son felt safe and comfortable with each of the instructors who accompanied him during his behind the wheel sessions. Each of them had calm demeanors and provided him with an environment where he was able to ask questions and feel at ease. Chrystal Helms was so lovely with whom to work and kindly accommodated our difficult schedule. She has developed a program that makes an overwhelming task very manageable and worry-free. We will surely use Helms Driving School again for our younger son when it is his turn.

We’re signing up our next kid this month. I read some of the old reviews and they seemed way off. From what I was told, ownership changed about 2 years ago. Our experience was so great in 2021 even despite Covid, so we returned this month for our youngest child. Helms exceeded our expectations the second time even! The team and Chrystal always responded quickly to my phone calls and emails. I Registering is a breeze. The communication for the classroom portion was timely and precise. Helms was able and happy to meet a special request for timing for the behind the wheel hours since we had a family vacation planned right in the middle of when our child needed to have the hours completed. Pete, the driving instructor, has 30 years experience and made the teen feel so comfortable with getting on the road. I would highly recommend Helms Driving!

Mr. Pete calmed him and built his confidence up so much that now he asks to drive us everywhere. This stage in a teenagers life is very important and Helms Driving School helped us getting over this hurdle. But I want to let everyone know that under the new ownership of Helms Driving School, Chrystal Helms has been nothing short of great. Chrystal Helms, the owner, was so easy to work with to arrange the trainings and a great communicator for all zoom and behind the wheel sessions. She already knew all the various school schedules so helped navigate good times for our daughter to do the online classroom and the behind the wheel sessions. The 30 hours of online zoom teenage trainings were so thorough and helped my daughter learn so much about how to prepare for driving and understand all of the rules and situations associated with driving. My daughter was definitely engaged during the zoom sessions, with appropriate break times built in. She felt well prepared for the test and received a high grade! The behind the wheel sessions were fantastic! The instructors were on time, personable, helped my daughter feel confident while driving and not nervous! Each time my daughter came home from a driving session she was smiling and happy and really really enjoyed the instructions and their way of teaching her. I could go on and on about what a great experience this has been! Thanks so much for Chrystal for running an outstanding driving school! Additional review 9 months later ~ my daughter was ready to do her Driver's Test and we hired Helms Driving School again for 4 more hours of behind the wheel. Pete was our guy and those two sessions were perfect. He is personable, timely, thoughtful, gives constructive feedback in the perfect tone to help your teen make the right decisions. My daughter was confident and ready to take the exam today. He has a great demeanor and helps encourage her while teaching her the right way to drive. 3 point turns, parking, backing in a straight line, switching lanes, etc etc. She passed on her first try today and we couldn't be more thrilled. I highly recommend Helms Driving School! Thanks for making our daughter's experience a great one.

After he finished his classes, I was shocked by how much his driving had improved. Also, my teen thoroughly enjoyed his lessons with Mr. Pete and actually looked forward to them. The new owner has worked her magic to ensure my daughter got credit for her classroom work and has been very communicative and easy to work with on scheduling. I highly recommend!

Experiencia negativa: If you can avoid this school, do so! Margaret Helms does not return emails, answer her phone or texts. Her mailbox is FULL, so don't plan on leaving a message. My son took the online course this summer for 5 days straight for 6 hours a day and barely passed his test bc the instructor did no teach what was aligned on the test. They were given nothing to prepare-no book, Manuels or street sign pictures despite the hundreds of dollars they required for the course. Getting to the next step after the course is a nightmare as Ms Helms is unresponsive.

Took forever for then to respond to my email and even when I called to talk to someone she did not seem to be knowledgeable. Turns out the person I was speaking with was Mrs helms.

Experiencia negativa: I remember having one lesson about three years ago and it's still stuck with me how awful the instructor was. She was impatient and seemed to have a an attitude that screamed "I don't really want to be here. Of course I made a few mistakes like some drivers do but after that she only took me to practice in my neighborhood for the rest of the lesson. It was seriously a back and forth between a one mile stretch of road for about an hour and 15 minutes. I can understand she her worries but seriously just driving in such a small stretch of road when I paid money for a decent lesson was basically robbery in my opinion.

Experiencia negativa: Huge waste of money. Classes were moved to zoom due to COVID-19. Horrible communication leading up to class, teacher was unprofessional. Class did not prepare my driver for her permit test. The practice test they have does not align with DMV test. Driving hours were inefficient and did not even take my driver on the interstate. Basically paid a few hundred dollars for a certificate so I could teach my daughter how to drive myself after the waste of class time.

Experiencia negativa: Take note that Helms Driving School In Charlotte, NC is rude and unprofessional. Wrote them a check in August 2017 for classes for my twin sons. Got a call in February 2019 saying they had just found the check and demanding that I send them a new check. Told them I had closed that account, was no longer married to the boys’ father and needed proof the first check had not been deposited. Was threatened with small claims court and told that I got what I asked for as my “twins are driving, aren’t they?” In fact they are not, Helms Driving School. Take 1/2 and go chase my ex husband for the other 1/2. Your screw up, not ours.

Experiencia fantástica: My little sister took driving lessons with both Mrs. Margret and Lyon and she was happy with both. Mrs. Margret provides excellent feedback and teaches young drivers how to be safe on the road. I am so glad we decided to go with Helms. I would definitely recommend them. We took advantage of the 6 hours package and I can honestly have my sister behind the wheel now without clinching to the door handle. Thank you Helms!

Experiencia negativa: Very traumatic experience. During my 20 h session i had 4 instructors ended up with the owner. She was rude to me, traumatized me to tears every time, stressed me out. Yanked the wheel around, yelled at me. She is experienced and it shows but she has no patience, no empathy towards people. Do not recommend it at all.

Not only did my child receive the worst instruction from Ms. Helms, the instructor GRABBED THE WHEEL WHILE MY CHILD WAS DRIVING to show her how to "properly turn the wheel during a turn". Other driving tips included: ride the curb to avoid oncoming traffic, stay at the maximum posted speed at all times, increase to speed limit while executing a turn, driving in the fast lane on 485 while telling my child to speed up, slamming on the brakes when my child was clearing an intersection and the light turned yellow - then making her put the car in reverse! Ms. Helms then berated my child for properly executing a 3 pt turn, claiming that she'd be failed during her test for coming to a complete stop before attempting the turn. Insanity! Take your hard earned money elsewhere!

Experiencia negativa: My wife went for one class with these people, it was an African American woman that came to instruct her. My wife was a beginner and she told her that from the get go. About 5 minutes into the lesson, the instructor started getting impatient and started showing her disgust towards my wife. This made my wife even more nervous, which brought out more irritation and agitation on the instructors part. That was the first and last lesson that my wife went to with them. That lesson was a complete waste of time and money and I never sent her to this terrible driving school again. I would never recommend this place to anyone ever!

Vicky was consistently patient, personable and professional at all times. Her ability to convey clear and precise driving instructions, in a manner that is very supportive and encouraging was truly "uplifting". Vicky is such an "excellent" driving school instructor, as evidenced in the driving experience that I shared with her for the past two days. In closing, if you are in need of driving school services, I definitely recommend "Helms Driving School" as your "first choice".

Experiencia negativa: Very negative experience with Helms, especially the owner. Unfortunately, she was not willing to explain her prices or processes. You'll find that their voicemail boxes are always full (and unable to take messages), they rarely answer the phone, and unable to get in touch with. We only contacted Helms because we thought Jordan wouldn't be able to get our daughter in over the summer. Helms assured they could get her in, but then never called to schedule my daughter. In the meantime, Jordan called with availability. Helms wouldn't release some necessary form without me paying her a fee of $45 (for Ms. Helm's travel fee) which was never explained. Since then, I've been able to experience Jordan and they are professional, courteous and more than fair. I'd steer away from Helms if at all possible.
