Here at Safety First, our most pressing concern is your Safety. It is not a word in the name of our school or on the side of our cars, it is everything we do. We do not preach it, we actually teach it to all of our students. The Safety of your child or loved one, your most valuable possession, is our First Priority. We are so grateful to have the opportunity to serve you and the community, and our surrounding areas and to help our youth and all adults become safer drivers, while assisting them on their Journey to Independence and contributing to keeping our roads here in Florida safer.

At Safety First Driving Academy, our Founder, Mr. James, isn't just an expert in driving instruction; he is a man on a mission. With over 20 years in emergency response and firsthand experiences with the fallout of unsafe driving. Mr. James isn't just teaching driving, he's sharing life-saving skills.

Mr. James contracted with the medical examiner's office in Orange County and Brevard County. He has an extensive background in crime scene removals and crash site fatalities and has worked as a first responder on an ER unit (ambulance) for 20+ years. I had the opportunity to serve alongside him for 4+ of those 20 years, and I saw in action that God would always give him the right thing to say at the right moment to comfort the families as they were going through a traumatic experience. I cannot tell you how many times he transported someone's child or an adult to the medical examiner's office that was not wearing their seatbelt, or they were not properly trained to be a safe, defensive, undistracted driver. Those experiences are what motivated him and inspired him to become a driving instructor and to start his own driving school. It has meaning and purpose to him and he has a passion for it. His goal is not to sell packages or get reviews and pats on the back, his mission is to save lives.

In partnership with the Florida Sheriff's Association, the Marion County Sheriff's Office proudly offers young drivers the Teen Drivers Challenge Course.

This is a defensive driving class for young drivers between the ages of 15-19 with a learner's permit or a driver's license with at least 6 months of driving experience. This program is a no-cost, hands-on defensive driving class to educate drivers on vehicle awareness. Click the "Learn More" button below to go to registration.

Research has shown that instructors for ASD and developmental disabilities are hard to find and there are very few schools that specialize in working with these individuals, matter of fact there are only five schools in the United States that offer training for Special Needs kids. Research has also shown 1 in 88 of all teens and adults with ASD, according to the Children's Hospital in Philadelphia, almost 2/3 of adolescence with High Functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) currently would love the opportunity to learn how to drive.
