DriveSafe’s Denver location is at the corner of E. Colfax Avenue and Grape Street, across from O’Reilly Auto Parts and about a half mile from Denver City Park. However, DriveSafe offers Colorado drivers license tests throughout the Denver metro area, with locations in Arvada, Aurora, Boulder, Evergreen, Greenwood Village, Highlands Ranch, Lakewood/Littleton, Longmont, Louisville, Westminster, and Wheat Ridge.

Students 15½ and older are eligible to take an intensive four-hour drivers education program on traffic laws and safe driving principles. For optimal driver’s education, students are encouraged to study the Colorado Driver Handbook before class. This program is great for adults and eligible ages that desire an accelerated route to obtaining their driver’s license.

Depending on your age, the Colorado State requirements for drivers education vary, as do the requirements for obtaining your driver’s license.Below we’ve broken down basic permit requirements for your age group:

Students in Colorado can begin drivers education as early as age 14 1/2 and can receive their permit as early as their 15th birthday. You then must hold your permit for a full-year before becoming eligible to take your license test. Here are the steps to getting your permit and license:

While most teens complete a 30-hour drivers education class to qualify for their permit, the state does allow students over the age of 15.5 to complete a 4-hour expanded driver awareness class instead.

It is wonderful that you are already interested in your teen's drivers education. You are welcome to register for a program at any time, but Colorado requires that students be 14 1/2 before beginning their classroom program.

To obtain your drivers license in Colorado, you will first need to pass a written permit test. Once you have your permit, you can sign up for your license test when you feel you're ready.

One unique feature is that if your student begins the online course and then decides they would prefer a live class, we can transfer them at no cost. If this occurs, State rules require that the student start the live class from the beginning.

The drivers license test is a standardized road test that takes about 30 minutes from start to finish. Following the exam, the tester will provide feedback and then tell you whether you passed. Even experienced drivers sometimes fail, particularly if they have not stayed current on Colorado rules and regulations.

Experiencia negativa: Buyer Beware! They are selling packages that they can't honor and once you purchase, there are no resolutions for you when you can't book what you purchased. We made the mistake of buying the permit class with the driving lessons. In over a year, we have not been able to book the driving lessons. There are never appointments through the online system at any location. They put you on a waitlist for all locations and you get a text when something opens up, but there's never an option available when the text comes in. I've regularly checked online as I was advised for the next schedule to come out and can't ever find an appointment at any location within an hour of the location we took the permit class. Called to find out if that could be rolled over for the driving test instead since my child is now far outside of the age that the driving lessons are required, since we've never been able to get these scheduled. Nope. Non-refundable and non-transferable. Even worse was the lack of customer service or understanding of the frustration by Andrea Gonzalez at the Lakewood location, who I unfortunately had to talk to (even though I called the Denver location). Not once did she even attempt to find any open appointments to fulfill this or offer any kind of solution, she was just snarky and rude. Please spare yourself the nightmare and go somewhere else!

Experiencia negativa: I am absolutely appalled at the testing!! After I took my test(Which would be the fourth of my life since I’m 40) I was told by the instructor that he couldn’t tell if I was going over 25 miles an hour so he gave me the benefit of the doubt he told me I was very careful in everything I did except I didn’t come down on complete stop three full times! So in other words, he told me that at three stop signs. I continue to move and didn’t come to complete stops, but I was absolutely careful on everything else in the test. I spent $99 to take this test. I was failed because I made three in fractions Immediately I asked for a retest with somebody different and was told I had to pay $70 !!! Now for someone who’s had their license since they were 16 but had to retest because it’s been a long time I don’t understand how you can say that I didn’t pass my test. I was told that I was going to be contacted by management and that did not occur. I feel as though this is a racket and I absolutely do not recommend this place to go . Find a different place because they were almost guaranteed fail you just to charge you again. And then not follow through with their word when they say they’ll have management contact you! Edit: I still don’t think you know what you’re talking about! I did come to complete stops every time if I did every single thing else good and was praised on everything else. How did I not come to complete stop three full times that’s absolutely asinine. It is a racket. I spent $100 to take a test in your car where your tester couldn’t tell what speed I was going and then failed me because he said I didn’t stop only to turn around and try to charge me 70 more dollars your company is a joke you do not give complete test your tester was asinine. All I asked for was a different tester and you can’t do that you want to charge me more money absolutely not , this is an absolute racket and all you care about is taking drivers money. , this is a absolute racket and all you care about is taking drivers money. If you’re standing by your company, won’t you let me retest with a different tester?

The license test standards are set forth by the state of Colorado, and our drive testers are certified and required by the state to observe and report to those standards accurately. The license test evaluates over 100 items that measure a driver’s skill and knowledge of legal and safe driving practices, which even seasoned drivers can overlook. Unfortunately, your traffic violations resulted in your drive test failure and our drive testers cannot legally pass a student if they do not abide by safe and lawful driving practices. We can assure you that we are not trying to capitalize on drive test failures. As educators first and foremost, our primary focus is on promoting safe driving habits to ensure all roadways users are safe. While it may seem minor not to come to a complete stop, these actions are critical in observing safe driving practices. The state has these stop laws in place to keep both drivers and pedestrians safe and aware and account for reaction time, all of which are crucial in preventing accidents. We recognize that no one likes to fail, but the state has designed the test this way to help people understand how to drive more safely. It is often the case that students pass on their second attempt after learning what led to their failure on the first test. Our interest is aligned with people passing but, even more so, with everyone's safety on the road. Experiencia negativa: The initial permit class was good. Impossible to schedule required driving lessons paid for with that class. Looking two months out and not a single appointment available. Only one appointment in their network 6-weeks out in Greenwood Village. They add you to a waitlist that texts you if something opens. I have received 6 of these texts, 5 of them I clicked the link right when it came in and there has yet to be any appointments available at the link. They really should stop selling the lessons until they can actually honor the ones they have actually sold. I cannot recommend this situation to anyone.
