If you are new to driving in the snow or an experienced driver, there's always something new that we can learn. Meteorologist Lauren Brand took us back to driving school to ask one of the instructors the best way to deal with these slippery conditions.
Caleb, a driving instructor at National Driver Training in Colorado Springs, tells us that "a lot of times, people tend to drive a little too fast. They tend to overestimate their abilities and overestimate their vehicles". He recommends that drivers slow down and allow themselves plenty of time to get to their destination.
While on the road, some hazards might be easier to spot than others. Black ice is notorious for hiding in the shadows and causing drivers to slip on the roads. Black ice can be especially bad on bridges and overpasses. This is because colder air temperatures are allowed to pass underneath them and cool them down more so than the surrounding pavement. There are some conditions to watch out for when trying to look out for black ice. "You can kind of see that shine and see how other people are spinning on it".
Caleb also mentions that it is important to check what kind of brakes that you have on your car. "A lot of vehicles have anti-lock brakes or some sort of that, but just because a vehicle is newer doesn't mean that it has that". He mentions that if you have anti-lock brakes you actually do not want to pump your brakes because that can cause to slide. You can check your car's manual to see what kind if brakes you have.
If you are wondering what to do when your car starts to slide, Caleb explains that you want to steer in the direction that your car is sliding. "If your back end, of your car, is sliding to the right you want to steer to the right to keep yourself in line".
His last advice to newer snow drivers is "When police go on accident alert, you want to ask yourself if its worth the risk of leaving your house". You could be putting yourself and other drivers in danger.
If you do find yourself stuck on the side of the road, Caleb mentions that you can use the mats by your feet in your car to help you get out of that spot. These mats have spikes on the bottom and can act as traction mats.

Experiencia fantástica: I had my permit test and lesson here, it was very efficient and the staff here made sure we understood. I passed with ease while with other courses I have done are more difficult. I do recommend
Experiencia negativa: Do not go here they told me I could walk in anytime during the day and they would get me in so I went in on my work break and they said I couldn’t do it then I paid 85 for a 3:30 appointment just to wait 10-15 minutes past the appointment time and when I got in and I went to back up he abruptly stoped me and told me to change my seat then he was very short with me wasn’t giving me directions fully when I asked him what road he said to turn on he got mad and said he’s not allowed to tell me what road just when to turn and when it was a stop sign or light he would wait until very last second to tell me to turn so I would either cut someone off or stop traffic to merge and then I want to park and he slammed on his break and make me go into the wheel and started YELLING at me saying to no ouch the gas and straight my wheel (it was very straight) even my mother saw this and was very confused what I did wrong and they failed me
Hi Morgan, Your test was very dangerous, and if you'd like to go over the results again to make sure you understand what you need to work on you will just need to come back in to the office with a parent (since you are under 18) and we will gladly go over it with you. On another note, please ask your boyfriend to stop calling our office as we can not give him any information about your test. We are fully aware that failing a test is not a good time, but having friends (who were not present for your test) call on your behalf, is not going to change the outcome of your test, no matter how many times they call, threaten to file complaints or write bad reviews. Have a great day!
Experiencia negativa: I’m writing this review for the safety of others to watch out for this company and who they have working there. I was driving and I had the right away at a green light and a younger girl who was driving one of the company student vehicles almost hit my car that has my baby in it. Proceeded to speed off and then cut me off and tried to brake check me. Which didn’t work because I kept my distance. I switched lanes to stay away and we met at a red light and she rolled her window down and started cussing me out (VERY UNPROFESSIONAL) and said she had the right away (if she’s a driving instructor she isn’t a good one and shouldn’t be teaching students to drive) she was reckless and did not have the right away and she needs to take a driving course herself. I just hope this doesn’t happen to anyone else. I’m happy my family and I are safe from this reckless driver that shouldn’t be working for a student driving company! I hope they do something about her because she was unprofessional and irresponsible. My sister in the passenger seat tried to get a picture of her and this is the best she could get. DO BETTER PEOPLE!
With all due respect, we reviewed our dash cam footage and what you are describing here is not what occurred. Have a nice day.
Experiencia negativa: The driving Instructor with glasses and a pony tail was very aggressive and pushy with his teaching approach. Creating an environment that wasn’t safe for someone trying to take a test that should be simple and easy, making it difficult and uncomfortable. Para los latinos, Por favor no venir aquí, pues ya han visto la mayoría de otros reviews(Vienen de latinos al igual que tú y yo), vayan a otro lugar y no pierdan su dinero.
Hey Miguel, When you initially tested with us a few months ago it was incredibly dangerous so we told you to work on your driving and come back when you were ready to re-test. What you chose to do instead was not practice driving at all, come back and follow around our tester's car for 3 hours and then get mad when we tested you on a different route than the route tried to memorize. You failed because you have taken zero initiative to learn how to drive. You cant cheat your way through life, it just doesn't work that way. Have a great day!
Experiencia negativa: We were warned by the DMV employees to NOT use the services next door! Unfortunately, I didn’t listen, the driver instructor who tested my daughter for her drivers license was more worried about his next appointment than making sure my daughter passed her test! He even yelled at her during the test when she couldn’t make a right turn safely! When the DMV TELLS YOU TO FIND A DIFFERENT SCHOOL, please listen! $85.00 for a driving test, plus rude owner! It’s a scam to take your money!
