Driving Schools Of Ohio: Reviews
Negative experience: Our experience with Driving School of Ohio has been a total nightmare since the beginning. After completion of the online schooling which cost more money than normal, the completion was done in June. Could not schedule the behind the wheel appointments until September!!! Then the 1st session was cancelled less than 2 hours prior to the appointment time because the instructor was sick. I couldn't get it rescheduled until October 7th. We had to cancel that and reschedule it due to an injury and they charged me another $40 just to reschedule. And of course you have no choice. Notw Nov. 13th, I can't schedule the drivers test because this driving school has not submitted the completion certificate to BMV which was completed on Nov. 7th. I called them, they said it takes 10 days to do this. Really?? i could get it rushed in 24 hours for a charge of $25!!! Really?? For doing their job!!! Now my Grandson is in danger of his permit expiring on Nov. 24th and we will have to pay for another permit if we can't get him scheduled on time. I would never, ever, ever recommend this company for absolutely anything!!! This has been the worse experience ever. Save your time and your money and go somewhere else!!!!
Negative experience: If I could rate a zero I would for the Westerville location. The classroom stuff is good but the in-car portion is absolutely awful. What they DON'T tell you is that they don't have enough instructors to do the in-car lessons. The in-car lessons are scheduled on a first come first served basis AND they only release appointments once a month. They don't tell you that on the website either. You have to call to find out. You need 4 in-cars to be completed in 6 months, from the beginning of the class. You start in May, you need to be complete in October. That only really leaves you 4 months to get the in-car classes scheduled. In order to schedule them you have to first find out what date and time (the love to say mid morning) and go on the website and hit refresh over and over until you see a time and you MUST take it no matter when it is. During school hours - doesn't matter, take it. Over half the time I clicked on a date it would be already taken, because first come first served. You also have to call and specficially request your account to be open to other locations or you just get your home location. The other locations also drop appointments on different days. I spend over an hour two days in a row trying to get spots. I barely made it. If I didn't get the last in-car, 4 days before my time ran out, my kid would have to take the class over for an additional fee AND do the in-car process all over again. DO NOT GO HERE. It's not worth it. The people on the phone are not able to help you in any way. This is the system and that's it.
Fantastic experience: I took my driving test with David, and he was great! He was sociable, he was down-to-earth and I wasn’t nervous. I had a wonderful experience thanks to him!
Fantastic experience: We had an excellent experience with Driving Schools of Ohio in Tallmadge! The sign-up process was simple, and the staff was incredibly helpful, kind, and patient throughout. Both of my kids went through their program and had wonderful instructors who made them feel confident and prepared behind the wheel. A special thank-you to Paula, Greg, and Tom for going above and beyond — your patience and encouragement made a huge difference! We’ll continue to highly recommend Driving Schools of Ohio to anyone looking for a great driving school.
Negative experience: Half of their instructors quit. The customer service sucks! stay away!
Negative experience: If you kids are nervous about taking there drivers test this is not the place for them the examiner there was very rude instead of telling her what she should have done next time to pass he let her know she was lucky to be able to come the next day and then she failed again took her to a whole other location and she passed I think we have to understand we are dealing with kids and they are learning still and it’s okay if they don’t pass there first time I would have definitely picked another school
Fantastic experience: My driving test went very well and my instructor was very calm and informing
Negative experience: Literally the worst. Haven’t been able to schedule for months. Such a hassle.
Fantastic experience: My brothers and sisters in this world , I went there to take my test full of anexity and worry , after reading reviews beforehand I knew that this guy David was a cool guy and I was hoping I'd get him , we got there I filled out my info and low and behold I got the examiner, David , this guy relived my anexity the second we both were in the car , I highly recommend this place to anyone who's trying to get their license, 100% the best ever
Negative experience: The in person classes were scheduled once a week which I thought could’ve been better, a lot of other place offer more classes so that the time is shorter. Also, my daughter passed her class but they refuse to give her the certificate so that she can take her in car lessons elsewhere because they never have availability to give her the in car lessons. They said if she wants a certificate that she has to take the online course and pay again. If I would’ve know this in advance, I never would’ve signed her up for this school. DON’T SENT YOUR CHILD HERE!!!!
Fantastic experience: Amazing experience. I even failed the first time . David was a pleasure to have as my instructor both times. He made the whole experience enjoyable and ideal. 10/10 recommend. The staff at the desk are very pleasant as well.
Negative experience: Do not waste your money if you want to get your child scheduled for in cars anytime soon. I have been trying since July with no success, now all of the dates until October are full. My husband and I work full time, so driving him to Marengo from our home in Delaware County is not an option. So disappointed as they did a great job with my oldest's education.
Fantastic experience: This School is the BEST! We have had two teenagers utilize Driving Schools of Ohio services over the past two years and could not have had better experiences. From Nancy and Sierra at the Customer Service Center to each of the driving instructors our sons had, this is a team of people that truly care. We ALWAYS felt like we were treated as a priority and their team was genuinely invested in preparing our sons to be safe drivers on the road. We have two younger children and without a doubt will return when it comes time for them to learn to drive. If you are looking for a driving school, look no further. This is the one!
Fantastic experience: I took my daughter to the Tallmadge location and had such an amazing experience. My daughter went for her drivers test only and David was the tester. He made my daughter feel at ease to calm her nerves. I would not hesitate to recommend this location.
Fantastic experience: David was a great tester! He put my daughter right at ease and made this a great experience for her!
Fantastic experience: I was extremely nervous coming in,, the people that work here are great knowledgeable, and I can not complement my instructor enough!!!!
Fantastic experience: This is my second teenager attending your school and nothing but great service across the board. Tara helped me a lot the first time around and this time too especially. Thank you Tara and the rest of your team for making my teenagers driving test experience a good one. We have three more kids coming your way starting with another next year. Thank you again!
Positive experience: Hello, I wanted to share our positive experience with Driving Schools of Ohio. My daughter was awarded the grant offered through Driving Schools of Ohio and Akron Public Schools. Throughout the process, we have had the pleasure of working with Paula in the office. Paula has been incredibly responsive and helpful with all scheduling questions. We did have one minor issue, which turned out to be a simple miscommunication, but Paula stepped up and resolved it quickly. She waived the associated fee and even had the next lesson already scheduled for us. Her professionalism and commitment to customer satisfaction truly stood out. I highly recommend Driving Schools of Ohio. Their attention to detail and dedication to keeping families informed and happy is greatly appreciated. Thank you again for everything! Sincerely,
Fantastic experience: They were very easy to work with. You could tell that they were safety focused. They communicated with us on every step of the process, which was extremely helpful when you have a lot of other stuff going on. I really liked the extra videos resources on the website. Best of all, the price was right!
Fantastic experience: Two of my kids have gone to driving schools of America, and I have had no trouble. I highly recommend them to anyone!!
Fantastic experience: What a friendly staff my daughter came here for her driving classes everything was made so easily. I have another daughter who will be coming here shortly as well.
Negative experience: Really disappointed in our experience, so far. We enrolled in the class at THS months ago. A week before the start of the class, I get a call that the class is being cancelled. When I asked why, I was told they didn't have an instructor. A week before it starts? Okkk.... They offer to switch her to online, as a courtesy. If I wanted her to do it online, I would have scheduled that in the first place. So, we had to move her to the class in stow for the same dates we had already been planning for, with a major inconvenience to the distance and time. But we made it work. My daughter seemed happy with the classroom instruction for those two weeks. However, now that she's done, we still aren't able to schedule her in-car time because they are backlogged for 4-6 weeks. And also, they havent loaded in the December availability yet. It would be my opinion that they either scale back in the enrollment for classes to ensure they are getting those students through the ENTIRE program in a reasonable amount of time. Or....they pause any new classes to get through the enormous backlog of kids still waiting for their driving time. At this rate, my daughter won't be getting her license until January February. My advice for anyone considering using this school....go elsewhere. For the price of the program, it's very poorly managed. If you do end up using this business, make sure you are getting this done well in advance of when your child can get their driver's license. I don't foresee this getting back to a reasonable timeframe anytime soon. I'm definitely regretting sending her here but our hands are tied at this point. Update Dec 1: after checking the system several times a day for openings in the schedule, I was able to get two sessions in car sessions scheduled for November. And then stalked the website again and snagged two in late December. The issue: it seems they have just two instructors and I'm confused at why most of their offerings were during school hours. If their entire business model is built around teaching teenagers how to drive, why would the in car sessions be during the day, when kids are in school? I can see why they are fighting a backlog. My daughter finished in class instruction on October 31 and has her final in car lessons on December 29. I'm not sure if they are still communicating the 4-6 week backlog, but its going to take us exactly two months to get her driving portion completed
Negative experience: The class and 8 hours of driving was fine but PLEASEEEE take your test somewhere else. It's a money grab and you pay every time whether you pass or fail even though the BMV is free except for the small fee to get your license. The maneuverability is bad. The parking lot in the back is slanted and is not in good shape at all. I didn't have any problems with any of the instructors but they were not like the BMV where they made you feel confident instead of like there judging you. 4 stars for the class but 1 for the test. Have them wayyyy too much money for nothing.
Negative experience: Okay I really wished I would have read other reviews before scheduling my kids driving test here! My kiddo who took his very first driving test with examiner 8511 (you will find several negative reviews abt him) feel free to explore them as well, he was such a rude person, it’s possibly true that my kid wasn’t 100% confident and got nervous but this instructor made him feel like so belittle, after the end of the test he was literally screaming at both of us with his body language and make us feel like we did something horrible, after this experience my son was shaking and I develop severe anxiety just the way he acted and behaved. GET THIS GUY A DIFFERENT JOB, he is not fit for this and only use him if you are 100% good and confident driver much most of new drivers are not. I am not saying he should have just passed my love one I am just saying he should have handled situation differently he made it the worse experience ever! We never went back to this place we went to Cuyahoga falls next and after few tries we got our license today. That place is day and night compared to this instructors were so nice kind and understanding and provide useful tips afterwards to make you a safe and informed driver and also This place charge us the money for taking a test cuyahoga falls only charge when we passed the test! Please refund my hard earned money Also I don’t understand why this driving school have the privilege of taking driving test…. That seems like a conflict of interest to me My biggest complain again here is examiners attitude!
Negative experience: Wish I would have read the reviews before taking my son here for his drivers test- they are a money grab! The maneuverability course is on a slant with a drain, the examiner was rude- “he lost all sense of common sense”- this was after my son asked if it was ok to straighten himself out and was told no- then after the exam told me he could have corrected himself which is where the common sense came in.
Fantastic experience: Super nice and a great teacher, he had very interesting story’s and had a great time.
Fantastic experience: If you get Daniel then keep your in car appointment he is great easy to talk to doesn’t yell keeps his calm and actually tells you how to do cones and gives a great technique to use. Defense recommend! NOW IF YOU GET MIKE CANCEL he is the worst very terrible gives no help or advice but asks every 10 mins if you have any questions made me want to rip my hair out
Negative experience: This place is actually the worst. It really feels as they intentionally fail kids just to make more money (yes, they charge for driving tests). Stay far away.
Negative experience: Reconsider passing the driving test here and have examiner 8511 (a short guy with a long beard) taking your test. My wife did great on the driving test. The examiner failed to judge the situation while looking at the iPad that he had. Absolutely lack of awareness and misinterpretation. Better be safe, correct? She was driving very carefully. The examiner took 25 points for being too cautious. He should be revoked from his position for such incompetence. He mentioned she was supposed to drive left even if there is a car that was driving the opposite. Waiting too long is never wrong. Is wrong when you create an unsafe situation on the road. Moreover, my wife has International Driving License for over 10 years, no tickets, and no accidents. And he failed her. Insane. He found 55 points. To what I can tell, only 5 are truly adequate. This was a simple exam to specifically have US DL
Negative experience: My daughter did extremely well on the driving portion of the test but the manuverability portion has a very sharp turn to get your car lined up with the cones. In my opinion the approach to the course is unfair. I would not recommend.
Negative experience: If you are ever wondering why this specific Driving School has plenty of openings for the test it is because the instructors have a poor & nasty attitude specifically the instructor with the Bald Head,Long beard & a 2004 eyebrow piercing. He is very rude & nasty. Complained before the test even started about air,Further on in the test he started to get very smart & disrespectful for no reason. After the test was done he told me he judged my test off another pedestrians facial expression. When i called to report him they were no help!!! If you are looking to take a drivers test I would suggest asking for the man with the shorter beard he is VERY respectful & had a positive attitude honestly that man deserves a raise & the other one needs to be fired immediately.
Fantastic experience: I was extremely impressed with my son’s instructor Sara. She was so sweet and taught him so much! He passed his test on the first try. He enjoyed the classroom and even more the in cars. Sara went out of her way to make sure every question was answered and made him feel extremely confident and comfortable behind the wheel!
Fantastic experience: Sara is one of the driving instructors there and let me tell you all SCHEDULE ALL YOUR IN CARS WITH HER. She is an amazing person and even better with new drivers. She is patient, kind and caring. She is a great maneuverability instructor so if you have trouble with that schedule with her ASAP because the slots for her go fast.
Fantastic experience: Even though I haven’t got my license yet, I want to thank Sara so very much. She keeps giving me confidence of getting my license and she I sees that I’m getting better more and more. She even takes the time out of her time and schedule to help me practice the maneuverability, so that I can pass on my license the first time. Since getting my drivers permit, I haven’t found the right instructor that suits me and as respects me, and then when I got her as a driver for my driving classes she has made me feel comfortable, she’s so funny, and I feel like driving with her that im driving with a best friend. Sara goes above and beyond and she deserves all the reviews. I know that I can get my license because she believes in me and I then I believe in myself and when I do get my license it will be because of her and that is the day I’m waiting for. We need more Sarah’s in the world.
Fantastic experience: My son’s driving instructor Sara was absolutely wonderful!!! She helped him so much and he passed his test the first time! She took the time out of her busy schedule to work with him on the side as he had a little difficulty with maneuverability. Thank you Sara for all of your help!!! You are wonderful!!!
Negative experience: My son took his driving test here December 26, 2023. The driving instructor was very rude to my teen during his road test. He made him nervous to the point of crying on the way home. A word of advice to that man, don't make newly driving teens nervous, it can be dangerous. Also, teens are people too, they have feelings. Please think twice before coming here for testing they will make you or your teen nervous. The instructor was extremely rude, condescending, and just plain mean to him. He rolled his eyes at him during the test at the smallest mistakes possible, and talked down to him the entire time. My son said he was shaking during the test because of how he made him feel. I was told instructors aren’t allowed to talk to you during a driving test, well if that is the case then this instructor needs to be reevaluated. I honestly think he decided to fail him as soon as he walked into the door. Let me add that my son drove there before the test with zero mistakes. Today my son retook his test with another instructor and he passed with flying colors. That instructor complimented my son and said this was a great test and how well he did.
Fantastic experience: Don taught both of my children. Who are very different learns and both are excellent drivers.
Negative experience: If you're not familiar with the area, watch that right-hand turn at the end of a big curve on the driving test! You'll get a street name, but go slow around that bend because you'll be in the blind until you get around the corner. The street and right-hand turn will be sooner than you'll think! If you happen to not see the street quick enough, see the turn too late and/or pass the street by, Driving Schools of Ohio will auto-fail you for "failure to follow instructions."
Fantastic experience: We love this school ( both my girl had Gary Greatest teacher every!!! Thank you THE Demoss Family
