McGinnis Driver Safety Centers: Reviews
Fantastic experience: Whatever you do get Joleta Spears as your instructor! Great experience
Fantastic experience: This was amazing! My instructor (Joleta Spears)was the best teacher ever and he made every class so fun! I totally recommend this place!
Negative experience: Classes have gone downhill from years ago, the owner is too old to keep on subject while teaching and the instructors are either unhelpful or just rude while in the car. If you're looking for a place to lean to drive, keep looking.
Fantastic experience: I had the honor of taking this class back in 1988. I *knock on wood* have never been in an accident. I think I am a very good driver and feel I am very safe. I attribute my good driving habits to McGinnis driving school. I loved it so much that I sent my kids to this school 35 years later. Let's be clear- they have expectations. Driving is a very dangerous activity. You need to be taught properly. I am thankful for a reputable company like McGinnis that has been around for over 60 years! Thank you McGinnis family- past, present and future!
Thank you, Andy. Your kids are great and you are a great guy!
Negative experience: Worst experience ever. Front desk secretary (owners wife) seems flustered and angry at her husband. She should retire. First day of class all Mr. McGinnis did was show a dvd and try to upsell his products. He loves hearing the sound of his own voice. The kicker is you only get one hr of hands on driving lessons every 3 weeks and if you want to take them sooner you can pay an up charge. I also don't think a man in his late 60s should be touching girls on the back and calling them "honey". We're in a new era where you don't do that. This class was a joke. Run don't walk
Fantastic experience: my bro went there n he's one of best drivers I know
Negative experience: This school is wack DO NOT send ur kids here.
Negative experience: For the third time I have come upon one of these vehicles with an instructor and a student, cruising along slowly in the left lane making vehicles have to pass on the right. This is not the first time, not the second time but the third time that I have seen this with this so-called driving School. If you don't even understand that the left lane is for passingthen I shudder to think about the drivers you are turning out.
Fantastic experience: They make learning fun and I think most appreciate that. I don't know where most of these bad reviews are coming from but I personally think it is ridiculous. If you want your child to go to a good driving school who gets the job done; I personally suggest you come here. But instead of just my suggestion, why don't you go there and see for yourself. (They are harmless)
Lol, Thank you Sky!
Negative experience: If there was an option for something less than one star, that would be what i would rate McGinnis, the staff is extremely unprofessional, unreasonable, disrespectful and impatient. I called my girlfriend on my lunch break because I knew she was taking the driving course offered there for $60. She’s been talking about it all week long prior to taking it, I was expecting things to go well but she told me that the instructor had Made her cry, and was billitlling her for apparently simple mistakes and yelling at her. She told me he had at one point grabbed the steering wheel out of her hand. In addition to his saracstic comments and unnecessary unprofessional-ness, the lady receptionist had rudely interrupted me while I called to talk about the situation with them and told me that “ the call was going to go how she wanted” and then proceeded to interrupt me just to make her point heard. I would strongly recommend going elsewhere to have classes or driving courses taken.
It was a road test. She failed. She was disappointed. You tried to bully the lady on the phone. Your girlfriend is of legal age, and if she has an issue she needs to contact us, not have her brother and her boyfriend threaten to come to the office “and make you listen”. You conveniently left out your foul mouth that was so bad you were hung up on.
Fantastic experience: I signed up and paid for five private lessons for my grandson. He went to and loved the first lesson. He failed to show up to the second lesson (after eight weeks) and did not give proper notice. There is a cancellation fee of $35 plus tax if you don't cancel on time. I called McGinnis and spoke to a very pleasant, professional, and helpful young woman, I believe her name is Lisa. She helped me get a refund for the balance of the unused classes minus the fees, of course. This is a very professional business and I would definitely do business with them again. Hopefully, my younger grandson is more mature and responsible than my older grandson. Anybody who complains about this business needs to try teaching a bunch of teenaged brats how to drive. Not a simple feat so I consider this a very professional place. I highly recommend.
Negative experience: My brother took this driving school and they charged us like 700$ for the driving school and he did not even learn anything would never recommend it staff is very rude too just waste of time horrible driving school in New Mexico
I’m sorry your brother feels that way, but we don’t charge anywhere near that amount. Perhaps you are mistaken about where your brother took classes.
Fantastic experience: I had a good experience with them. Today if I’m a good driver it’s just because of the driving teachers. They’re really calm and patience with every single student. They’re just awesome . I would recommend everyone to go McGinnis to learn how to drive. Keep it up McGinnis
Fantastic experience: I had such an amazing experience with McGinnis! I lost my wallet right before my driving test and they were willing to and able to work with me on still being able to get my paperwork. They went above and beyond for me. The driving test itself was amazing! He didn't bring a clipboard or the paperwork so it wasn't stressing. He was very soft spoken and kept up a very calming conversation. It was all very wonderful. Definitely well worth the money!!! Thank you guys!!!
Thank you Autumn. People are quick to point out their bad experiences, but the other 99% don’t often take the time to point out the good experiences. Glad we could work it out for you! Spread the word...we would love to help everyone!!
Negative experience: I came to this location excited and ready to learn how to drive. Little did I was going to be judged for being poor and embarrassed in front of a class with about 20 students. David mcginnis is a judgmental, dicriminating, belittling human being. He tried to make me feel lower than him because I couldnt pay for the driving class myself. I was sponcered by sombody so I wouldnt have to pay out if pocket. I was not aware there was a wrong answer to his question. He yanked me out of class, told me I disgusted him, kept my money and kicked me out permenitly . then talked to my mom on the phone like she was stupid and less than. We are low income but we are good people and all I wanted was to learn how to drive before my 21st birthday. All of this started after i declined a ride home from him (what male teacher asks their female teenage students if they need a ride home?) If you are low income or you have a sponserer i suggest any driving school but this one. He dosent need your money, $800 is pocket change to him, he made that very clear to his class.
Kendra,
You were dismissed from class for being disruptive. That is what I told you in the office and that is what I told your mother. You were not yanked out of class. I told you to get your things and come into the office so that we did not have to have a discussion about your behavior in front of the entire class. (Lie #1). I told you that you were looking at me like you were disgusted with my teaching.
I do not handle the payments for the class, my staff does, so I have no idea who pays for a student. I instructed my staff to issue a full refund to your account. You should check this with the payor of your account. (Lie #2)
Never, in 43 years, have I EVER offered to give ANY student a ride home. It is our standard policy that it is the student’s responsibility to get back and forth to Classes and driving lessons. I told you to call your ride to pick you up early.(Lie #3)
Our classrooms and offices are monitored 24/7 by audio/video cameras. And I offered to replay the tapes for your mother to view, but that I still would not allow you back in class. (Fact)
Fantastic experience: Our son got excellent driver training here. Instructors far better than what his friends got in other less expensive schools. Highly recommend. Shame they only use clunky American cars.
