Gulf Coast Driving Academy
Information about Gulf Coast Driving Academy
Opening hours
Teen class & driving are at both our locations (LJ & Angleton). Teens can take the full course (class & drive & forms) or choose to take just the classroom/just the driving portion through our school. If you choose a partial of the course, you are responsible for fulfilling the rest of the requirements for Texas.
Adults 18-24 are required by law to take the 6 hour course. Adults don't have to do driving but we do offer private lessons for those who want to learn to drive or to brush up on their skills.
We are a Third Party testing facility authorized through DPS to offer the road skills test for your driver's license. Our prices and classes are listed on-line through our website or you are welcome to contact us via phone, email, or text.
Gulf Coast Driving Academy: Reviews
Fantastic experience: The instructor (Robert) was very patient. Under his guidance, I successfully obtained my driver's license. I am very happy and highly recommend it.
Fantastic experience: Robert is a fantastic instructor. Very patient, soft spoken, not intimidating at all. professional, and well versed in the rules of the road. Not sure how it happened, but in a very short time I was a much better driver.
Fantastic experience: If you're considering doing Third Party Testing, especially for a first time adult driver's license, this is the place to do it. Miss Pitts was very kind and understanding, explained the route thoroughly to me and what I needed to do, and gave me detailed feedback at the end of the test. After a bad experience at the DMV it was a breath of fresh air!
Fantastic experience: Staff was very profesional and reliable. Took the time to answer all my questions on the phone and in person. They made all effords to accommodate my son in the courses, driving education and as well as in the driving test. Definitely recommend this Academy
Fantastic experience: We needed a last minute appointment and they were very accommodating! Process was smooth and easy.
Fantastic experience: Professional and thorough. I have had two children attend and have had zero issues. Kudos to the owner/staff, they will inform you of any changes that may arise…weather closure, road closure issues due to unseen circumstances, etc..
Fantastic experience: Excellent service.
Fantastic experience: I am very thankful to Mr. Roberts, Mrs. Reyes, and all the personnel, they’re very professional, very welcoming and so nice! I recommend this school to everybody, thank you Gulf Coast! I really appreciate it.
Thank you! Be safe!
Fantastic experience: Shout out to all that work at the Lake Jackson school!!! Wow!!! We did the 3rd party driving test there, let me tell you!!! They were so welcoming and so nice!!! They gave my son extra pointers and tips, all while we did parent taught. They are so amazing!!! I recommend this school to anybody!!! Thank you Gulf Coast!!!
Glad to hear you were pleased and be safe out there!
Negative experience: Horribly overpriced! And we did NOT get what we paid for. Basic, if not inadequate level of instruction. They only seemed to care about collecting payment and not our son learning to drive safely. The staff was snooty and dismissive when we expressed our concern and told us we were welcome to go elsewhere with no refund.
We took over in May, 2021. Please contact us so that we can see if we can locate your file and what the issue could have been.
Negative experience: Total waste of money to be treated so rudely! Incompetent crooks.
Please contact us so that we can locate your file as we took over in May, 2021. Perhaps we can find out what the issue seemed to be.
Negative experience: All I can say is WOW! How are these people still in business??!! I called for pricing and schedules today and was treated like I needed to EARN THEIR SERVICES! Cannot believe the Holier than Thou attitude I was met with!! I will find a better option to send my daughter for Drivers Ed.
As we took over in May, 2021, I cannot attest to whom you spoke with before that time. We try for transparency and all classes and prices are posted on-line on the website. We have a number you can text as well now for information.
Negative experience: UPDATE: The owner response is yet ANOTHER LIE. They did nothing to help and intentionally thwarted any attempts we made to compromise. No one but staff was obnoxious or rude... I wish there was a way to give this business 0 stars. I am not the complaining type, but I thought I ought to take the time to relate my experience so that others don't have to go through what I did. Mr. Foley, the director and/or owner may suffer from senility and if that is the case I do apologize, but I cannot imagine any other reasonable justification for his behavior and that of the staff. Completely unprofessional. During the course of the class, my child received a serious physical threat at school and we thought it best to relocate him to my home 1.5 hours away. Because we had already paid Gulf Coast and they would not work with us, I went out of my way to make the 3 hour round trips to get him to and from this facility. I made these appointments personally with Mr. Foley and we were very clear over the phone and in writing as to when they would occur. I explained the circumstances in detail and he seemed to understand. But when I drove all the way back to Lake Jackson for our appointment, I was met with an incompetent staff who was not aware of our arrangements and refused to contact Mr. Foley, who was not even present. I insisted on staying until I spoke with him as he had not only wasted my time, effort and fuel, but also valuable time with my child that could have been spent other ways. I was threatened with a fabricated police dispatch to which I remained obstinate and insisted again on speaking with Mr. Foley. When they finally put him on the phone, I was cursed and insulted before being informed that he had no recollection of our multiple discussions and appointments. I was told that they did not want our business and that my child needed to find somewhere else to attend. They also made it maliciously clear that they would withhold the records of his progress as "their property" and he would have to start over entirely with another school, despite him having completed all classroom instruction and all. but 2 hours of drive time. At the end one of the women even stood up and got directly in my personal space during a time when social distancing was still mandated, took her mask off and screamed at me and threatened me from 6 inches in front of my face. I was both shocked and embarrassed by this behavior and decided it was best that we take our business elsewhere, but here I hope to forewarn anyone else that may be considering Gulf Coast Driving Academy, that it IS NOT WORTH THE TROUBLE! I highly recommend you find a better, more competent and professional business to give your valuable dollar.
There are new owners since May, 2021.
Negative experience: Took my money, after almost competing the entire course, told us we ran out of time and had to completely retake the course. My son got sick, not wanting to spread the virus, and then, with the recent freeze we were stuck out of town. We got behind on drive times. They initially agreed to an extension, and acted like it never happened when we showed up to sort it out. Don’t make the same mistake I did and waste your money!
There are new owners since May, 2021. I am not certain what happened but I do know that we are required to follow the contract guidelines and the contract that we use is the one from the State. For example, ours allows three months, 90 days, to complete the course. Any extensions are supposed to be issued before that time runs out. There is an extension fee if a student goes beyond the agreed to contract terms. I know we try very hard to contact students and parents to be certain that they are aware of their contract times and any needed driving, make-up work, etc. I am sorry that you had communication issues prior to us.
Negative experience: Spent three minutes with my son and failed him He is an awesome and very safe driver who has been driving for a year. He wanted to give him lessons and charge me more money. Wasted 100$ in 3 minutes. Do not use this driving academy to test. Waste of time and money. The guy is greedy and so rude.
There are new owners since May, 2021. However, we still do the driving test and we do have to go by DPS Texas Law. Just for clarification, we are audited yearly by DPS to make certain we are in compliance. If a person fails, we do have to retest. The test typically ends if someone violates the law by committing a dangerous act such as running a red light or stop sign, etc. Minor infractions cost points but the completion of the entire road test cannot take any less than 10 nor anymore than 20 minutes to complete. For us, we do not suggest driving lessons unless they have come to us for an evaluation. Even then, the student decides how many lessons they take or feel that they need. I do hope you will try us should the need arise in the future.
Negative experience: Not helpful at all and they lost all my paper work!
New owners in May, 2021. Sorry about that paperwork.
Positive experience: Dew
Be safe :)
