Fantastic experience: Lex from the state fair location is a confident instructor and friendly person to have teach us. I enjoyed the courses because they were challenging to even experienced riders. We had a beginner pass the final exam with a few hiccups. She had never ridden a motorcycle before and in fact dropped the bike almost instantly. She learned quick and built enough confidence by the end. I would highly recommend this course to every level rider and to anyone that wants to learn to ride correctly.

Fantastic experience: I had never ridden a motorcycle or a dirt bike before, but Dennis was great at developing my skills and confidence on the bike. It was a great experience!

Negative experience: Not for beginners and its ridiculous that I just invested my time and money into a program that’s suppose to be designed to TEACH ME but yet are more focused on the ones who have been in the driver seat. Maybe split the class into beginners and the ones who have been in the driver seat then you will see the exercises won’t move as fast. This whole experience has discouraged me.

First Motorcycle Safety Program

We definitely do not want you to be discouraged, but some riders take more time to develop skills like clutch control and shifting than the course allows for. The coaches spent more than an hour of extra time working with you and a few others who were new to riding within the exercises as well as remedial training in between exercises. Like the coaches read at the start of the class, if you are unable to successfully complete the exercises you may be counseled out, and after the extra time and remedial training (without completing the objectives of two consecutive exercises) they had no option but to counsel you out for your own safety. We would be more than happy to give you a private lesson to get you up to speed so that you get the skills necessary to ride outside the strict confines of the class. If you would like you can call us at 607-898-3339.

Negative experience: Waste of 310.00 for constant ridicule and yelling from an instructor whose technique is to scream at you the whole time. Would never recommend this place. Rip off..!!

First Motorcycle Safety Program

We're sorry you feel this way, however, our coaches have a responsibility to you and to the other students that everyone is able to complete range exercises safely and effectively in order to proceed to the next exercise. Unfortunately you were unable to complete many range exercises as well as unwilling to follow instructions on consecutive exercises and put yourself and others in danger. As we read at the start of class, the instructors have full authority to make this decision and after you rejected their offer for remedial training they had no choice but to council you out from class.
Similarly, because of your unfortunate circumstances, we offered to not only put you in another class free of charge with a different instructor that may suit your personality better, but we also offered to pay to put you in a 3 wheel course at no charge because you said that is what you were interested in. Again, we're sorry you feel this way and we attempted to do everything we could to help you, we strive for great training and safety for everyone and wish you the best in your motorcycle journey.

Fantastic experience: For someone who had very little experience on a motorcycle, the basic rider class proved indispensable. There were so many areas of riding that I was simply ignorant of and never would have considered had I not taken this course. The instructor (Harvey) was understanding of my vast inexperience, as he was with all of the students in my class who were also relatively new to this activity. His '"trainer in training" Aaron provided valuable info that assisted me greatly when I was a little uneasy of a particular exercise. And yes, there's the added bonus in that completing this course (including the written and skills test) allows one to avoid having to schedule a road test and separate written test with the DMV. I say "added bonus" not to minimize the importance of the state licensing test waiver, but rather to highlight the invaluable knowledge that one would be hard-pressed to acquire by simply practicing on their own.

Positive experience: Great course. Fantastic instructors. I had Harvey and Greg and thought they made a great team. Was able to learn basic skills and comfort on a motorcycle. Only reason I don't give a five star is the equipment. The motorcycle that you work with are in horrible shape. On the last leg of life.

Fantastic experience: I highly recommend this motorcycle safety class! Let's face it, riding a motorcycle is risky and the material this course offers could save your life! I had zero experience on a motorcycle and had already had a scary experience with my permit (had permit less than 2 weeks prior to course). I felt inadequate for the risks associated with motorcycling. After taking this course, I felt a huge increase in confidence and knowledge of safer motorcycling. My advice is if you're going to ride a motorcycle...take the course! The instructors were also excellent! They were engaged, interesting, patient, and even funny. Thumbs up, guys!

Fantastic experience: My instructor was Dennis and he is phenomenal. I had never even turned turned on motorcycle before, never road a dirtbike; I had zero experience. After taking the course, I could go buy a bike tomorrow and feel confident enough to ride safely. I enjoyed the course, the material, the content, and variety of learning methods. There was a wide variety of experience amongst the students but everyone said they were happy they took the course. There is more time outside on the bikes than in the classroom wouand I would consider taking the advanced course after buying a bike and gaining more experience! I'm completely satisfied and would recommend First MSP.

Fantastic experience: It was a tough love two days that will stick with you. You may think you know a lot, but I found there is always more to learn. I found this course very informational, extremely hands on, rain or shine, we had rain, riding learning experience. The instructors were very encouraging and still very oriented on making sure you learned. Bikes are supplied, and if you pass, guess what you can run down to Cortland DMV and get your license that day. My instructors were Mary and Sue and they did a great job.

Fantastic experience: If you want to improve your skills as a new rider or seasoned motorcyclists this is the place to go. I'd advise getting at least 20+ hours of parking lot practice under your belt and taking the online course a couple times to immerse yourself into the sport first in order to be able to fully appreciate the course and soak up all the knowledge like a sponge. My instructor Gene taught me skills that may save my life one day and I know I'm a better rider having been able to learn properly from a veteran motorcyclist. He was not just teaching a curriculum he was sharing years of his experience in the saddle.

Negative experience: I payed for the rider course, $275. I was late because my bike broke down on the way in. I showed up at 9:00 after having my pops bring me a fresh plug. They refused to help me out in any way, claiming that 90% of the course fee goes to insurance and other expenses and was already spent. I have a ton of experience riding motorcycles since I was 7, I don't think I would have missed anything I didn't already know in the first hour. Long story short they ripped me off for $275 and I received nothing. The only reason I took this course is because the were no road test appointments available. I don't feel this is ethical, regardless of how they spent my money, I paid for a service that I did not receive. Waiting to hear a response regarding a fee waiver or a refund but not holding my breath.

Fantastic experience: Just finished the Basic Ridercourse with these guys. Have to say I'm fully satisfied with the experience. I went into it with virtually no riding experience, and came out with some basic skills, and what I feel was a very good appraisal of my aptitude with them. I did pass the class, but the instructors were very good in imparting to me the understanding of just how basic my abilities are, and what areas I am most needing practice in. Overall I'd say that the class was worth every penny of the reasonable price.

Fantastic experience: I'm surprised there are no reviews here yet. This is an excellent program for anybody interested in motorcycling, and the instructors at First MSP/Groton Cycle Center are awesome. I just took the class here last week and had a blast and learned a bunch, things that have already made the class worth the price in avoided medical bills. They even made it a comfortable and enjoyable experience for a few in the class who had zero experience with motorcycling. No tough guy MC types, and no judgement - all are welcome. Really can't recommend it enough, A+.
