Western Truck School: Reviews
Fantastic experience: Best Truck School in California (Western Truck School)! Albert & Chad are great instructors, they made sure I didn’t give up and graduated. I can’t forget Mrs. Susan who is there intake staff, she was always friendly and very helpful. I highly recommend this School for future Truck Drivers.
Fantastic experience: I passed my CDL test at the dmv with no restrictions on the first try because of this school. The instructors have years of experience so they teach you based off of real world situations and experience, not just based off of a book. Chad is so patient and he adapts to your way of learning, he keeps calm even when you are making mistakes while driving. Albert is very knowledgeable and challenges you to hold yourself to a higher standard. I felt over prepared for the dmv test because of the way that they run their school. Susan, the head office admin is very easy to communicate with and she makes sure you have all documents and information that you need for the schooling and driving. Not to mention the owner has been in the industry for over 50 years, it’s a family ran business so he’s really focused on the individual and not just taking your money. I got my permit within 4 days of the program and got my CDL 3 weeks after that. 10/10 recommend.
Fantastic experience: Just obtained my CDL Class A today thanks to this school. Big shoutout to Albert and Chad, they are great instructors. Best advice I can give you is to trust the process and listen to the instructors.
Fantastic experience: Western is a great school to train at to become a truck driver . I had so many doubts about being able to get my CDL but they never gave up on me, they continued to encourage me and continued to train me until I got my license . Thank you so much Albert and Chad. Now I’m able to move forward in my life to better things
Thanks for the review and congratulations on getting your CDL!! We wish you the best in your new career and please keep the school updated on your progress and reach out if you need any placement support. Best of luck!!
Negative experience: Don't go to this school. EVEN if you're going to renew your cdl. The admin is poorly run. The first week is nothing but watching videos. It's completely a waste of time. The trucks are always in need of repairs and are not available for driving. The instructors are former drivers and are not real teachers. They will take your money and will not help if you are struggling to pass certain parts of the training. A refund will not happen. They ban a lot of students for no reason. So they can keep your money. It's a very shady program and should be shut down.///////////////////////////////////// I see that you said that I left. When I was actually not allowed to continue training because Loki told me that I was dropped and not able to return to the school. The reason was not even explained to me and couldn't give me or to my va counselor a reason why I was not allowed to continue training and not to return. I didn't do anything to anyone. I didn't disrespect anyone or violence to anyone. I didn't steal anything or call anyone to report anything. I don't know what I did. The only person that I know that lied about me was George told Loki that I was trying to convince him to let me drive on the road. When I told him that I was driving the day before with another instructor. I was not trying to pull one over on him. I got my cdl before from your school when it was in Spring Valley without any problems. As of recently, some of the staff at your school are not real teachers and are just grumpy truck drivers with a chip on their shoulders.Loki lied to me about why I needed to leave the school. She said that it was the VA doing, but it wasn't. It was her doing. She couldn't even tell me the truth. It was her who told my va counselor that I couldn't return and had to leave the school immediately. There was no warning. I am just being myself, and they were judging me. I was treated unfairly. They were not nice or friendly, but I continued to school, but I could tell that they did not like me for whatever reason. I overheard staff talking about other past students who were banned often. They were bragging about it. I didn't even know that your school did that.
Mr. Sotelo,
Thank you for taking the time to reply. We regret that you were not satisfied with your training program in July 18, 2022 to August 11, 2022. Unfortunately, a complaint after 19 months has elapsed is difficult to remedy. Also, a bit of clarification- Per the Entry Level Driver Training Standards implemented in February 2022, requires students to complete 30+ hours of Theory Training. This training is completed the first week of your 4 week training program (as classroom). You attained a passing score. As required, we posted this to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration training registry. Then for the remainder of the training program, you go to field training for skills, driving and practical application of the knowledge you obtained during your classroom training. You attended 6 days of field training before leaving. This record of attendance results in a completion percentage of 62.5% of the total program. The other 3 students in your class cohort graduated the program and passed their CDL test at DMV. The school catalog and the enrollment agreement, which you signed and acknowledged, clearly specify the terms and conditions of your training program and the refund provisions of the school. These terms and conditions are in accordance with the governing agency's provisions for schools operating in California. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. Thank you.
Fantastic experience: Overall a good experience ensured the most important information and skills were fully understood and executed
Thanks and good luck on your new career.
Fantastic experience: This truck school is amazing. All the instructors were very nice and shared a lot of knowledge with me and I was able to pass my class B. I would highly recommend anybody wanting to get a class A or B to come to the school.
Thanks for support. We wish you well in your new career.
Negative experience: The school is such a disappointment. They love to take ur money. They blacklist students sometimes for no reason. So they don't have to pay back the money.my teacher wouldn't even do his job and would sleep while I was doing my parking skills. George was his name.they don't have the trucks in working order to train on.The training yard is disgusting no running water and it's in the middle of nowhere.Trash is everywhere.A lovely portable bathroom.I was yelled at for my mistakes. Loki was the admin who looks like a biker who acts like a child and is loud during class You can hear her Laughing And watching YouTube videos all day. Highly recommen Not to Western truck school. I don't even know how they are even in operation as a school. Many people have to re try try to pass because they don't even give you the correct training hours they say they do.
Fantastic experience: After reading and researching truck driving schools I decided to go with Western Truck Driving. Loki with Admissions and Career Services was very helpful getting me signed up for the course and answered all my questions leading up to starting the program. They have new instructors, Dakarai, George, and Jim, who have worked in the industry for 20-30+ years each. They assessed how well I drove behind the wheel at the beginning and instructed me as needed. They gave me pointers/suggestions to help master my skills. By the time I completed the course I was very competent maneuvering a truck and trailer through the docking skills and road tests that's required to pass the DMV Class A examination. I now have my CDL license and now applying for work! Thank you Western Truck School for preparing me for the trucking industry!
Negative experience: Bad school don't waste your money here no worth it
Negative experience: I sign up for 160 hours training hours which is at least 5 hours every day, but in reality they give me 30 minutes only to drive. Also at the 30 minutes there are students doesn’t pass the driving test, so they came and practicing in my truck at my time the time I paid for it. I give them chance for three days, but they still kept did it with me, so I decided to took my money back. Update: MICHELLE great awesome person she gives me my money backwith out the $250 for class registration. Instructors Karl great guy. The office saying something way different at the yard Recommendation: DO NOT SIGN UP WITH WESTERN TRUCK SCHOOL SAN DIEGO LOCATION OFFICE YOU GOING TO WASTE YOUR TIME. Finally: THANK YOU for taking $250 for nothing you guys Lied to me and broke the contract with me
Negative experience: When I went to Western, I received the class room and drivers training time required to take my DMV tests. What I got from Western was: 30 year old videos to watch, a print out to memorize on brake tests and inspection, CDL prep test app, that taught me all the answers to the DMV questions and a night instructor that played on his phone 4 hrs a night. Mark and Karl taught me more in 3 days... The school was back logged with driving test dates, so I didn't get to take my driver's test for 8 weeks after I finished school. They didn't have enough trucks and blamed the DMV, a total lie. I passed my driver's test on the first try, got all of my endorsements and went right to work. Thank God I got a great Leader(trainer) at Werner, I was totally unprepared to drive a 53' trailer with 40k lbs of cargo.
Negative experience: Bad school.
Negative experience: Instructors were great...Karl and Billy do their best to train the students with the equipment they have. Was started training on a freightliner then was not able to drive because it broke down. They also had a volvo that was not in operation...half way thru my course they finally brought in a penske rental with a day cab which was shared with multiple students. Was able to get on the road driving only a week after my courses were over(5 days before my DMV appointment); I payed for day classes and the only way was to go to the night class after the rest of the students went home, only then was i able to get some street training after 10pm!...Come on western step it up...i really wouldn't recommend this school...Very poor business management from corporate...if i could get my money back i would!
Fantastic experience: Great place to learn CDL A and B. I would highly recommend this place
Thank you for the kind words. We hope you have a successful career in the trucking field. Please keep the school informed about your new or continuing jobs! Thanks again!
Fantastic experience: Great place to learn. Small classes... lots of onevon one time... Great investment to get a great career!
Positive experience: I spoke to dawn, she was very helpful. But I couldn't get a definitive answer as to Wether there is any financial aid process to pay for the course
Hi Natalio,
Thanks for contacting Western Truck School. We offer a variety of options to help you finance your tuition so it's best to schedule an on-site visit to assess all of your options including potential grants. Unfortunately, we currently do not offer financial aid programs administered by the Dept. of Education (Federal Title IV). Also, keep in mind that many of the national carriers we work with offer various types of tuition reimbursement programs to their drivers upon employment. We can have you job ready in as little as 4 weeks.
Fantastic experience: I just called to get some info about the truck driving class and spoke with Dawn. They were professional, polite and had all of the info I needed. I will be taking the course with them. There's a few driving schools in San Diego but this is by far the best place.
Thanks Reza! We look forward to helping you start a new career as a professional driver.
Fantastic experience: I love it my instructor Ron is a patient man and is teaching me and my classmates how to allie dock drive the 43 footers and everything else love a lot time a hands on training
Thank you. We are happy to hear Ron and the other staff are helping you out in the training. We're there to support you.
Positive experience: Its ok and I will give better review once I completely am done with the Class A course. Right now I have achieved my permit with all endorsements. And learned my 7 point Air Breaks test by memory. Straight back, parallel parking. Etc. Half way through. So U can do it ! If U really want it ! Plenty of work with great pay and Benefits to boot... Just keep in mind these Big Rigs are not toys... ;) God Speed !
