Drive-Train: Reviews
Fantastic experience: Tested out with Mr. Jeff and it was all a great experience. Would definitely recommend drive train!
Negative experience: IF YOU’RE THINKING ABOUT COMING TO THIS SCHOOL PLEASE RECONSIDER!!!!! If you don’t come with a permit they’ll just give you the answers and expect you to go take it the NEXT DAY! And if you fail the permit they’ll put you in another class!!! Okay now let’s talk about the instructors! CARL IS THE WORSE! He doesn’t help you with anything whatsoever! So really if you’ve never drove a truck don’t come here because obviously they expect you to know or get it down packed in 2 weeks! That’s why it’s so many idiots on the road now! My honest opinion is I feel like Carl is prejudice towards WOMEN! Alvin is THE BEST INSTRUCTOR! He makes everything fun and even throws in jokes here and there so it’ll stay fresh on your brain! This school is definitely not worth 5,000!! Maybe 500 honestly because it’s mainly students teaching each other… definitely would not recommend sorry!
Fantastic experience: 5-17-23 Owner Jeff: Only experience I had with him was during testing, was friendly and very fair to me during my testing. He offered me advice on how I could improve and wasn't overly critical. Squared away owner/tester. Schools Director Shane: Several critiques, firstly if you want to run a manual and not an automatic be sure you are firm in your desire, otherwise you might be pressured into driving an automatic. I was told the fleet's are all automatic and there was no reason I should want to learn to drive a manual. I had to threaten going to another school before the push for me to run an automatic died down. Second, don't offer legal advice on how to autograph / sign contracts, I was overly accommodating as a student as my aim wasn't to create waves, but lets get real the student, me, is Sui Juris and the director is/was Non compos mentis and has absolutely no business telling anyone in what capacity and or what declarations they should or shouldn't make in/on a commercial testimony/contract/agreement/etc. Thirdly, you catch more flies with honey than vinegar. I was told I had to show up to job placement events during our lunch break whether I wanted to or not. The schools manual states clearly that job placement assistance is offered but it's up to the student on whether assistance is taken or not. Also, I didn't agree to be forced to sit through presentations I wasn't interested in. My suggestion, in the future, simply ask the students if they would like to attend a presentation for job placement, and explain it would really help future students by incentivizing hiring companies in wanting to come and and give said presentations. I decided to sit through the third one as the third meet and greet I wasn't forced to attend, imagine that voluntary association. Finally, I heard through the grape vine, that the schools director informed the instructors to not show me any special attention, or something to that affect. I guess it had something to do with the aforementioned encounters. I studied, and practiced the skills and listened closely to the instruction from the head and assistant instructors so I didn't need any special attention. I didn't hear that directly, which means it was hearsay and I didn't feel right at the time addressing it. However, on further thought I've decided to leave it in the review, hopefully IF it was true that my critique will lead to a bit more professional behavior and or at least a bit more discretion in trying to derail a student from passing their licensing tests. In closing I think the director overall is a decent guy who wanted most of the students to succeed, there are areas that could definitely be improved upon. Head Instructor Alvin, I only have good things to say about him, he made the training entertaining and educational. He is one of the funniest impromptu instructors I've ever had, which made learning a lot easier. He was able to take someone, me, without any manual driving experience and in two weeks prepare me for my driving exam. He was able to sit in the passenger seat and when I needed it help me / walk me through the gear shifting, which for a beginner is a stressful palm sweating experience. It's definitely not for everyone as he pointed out, but with his help I got it down in no time. He also gave me my space to make some mistakes and not jump down my throat, which I felt was helpful in building my confidence. He also set me straight when I was doing something unsafe or that might get me or someone else killed. Assistant Instructor Terri, like Alvin, had many years running trucks and was influential in helping me pass my exams. She was extremely helpful in sharing potential job opportunities, lessons from her career, information on trucks, and tips on passing my exam/skills/driving tests. I appreciate her attention to detail and knowledge shared. Great instructor. Finance guy Paul, shared his lessons learned and processed my paperwork promptly, thanks. Overall 5 star experience, would recommend anyone attend who want's to get their CDL.
Fantastic experience: Great experience! Couldn’t have asked for better instructors
Fantastic experience: This is on behalf of Edmund Thomas…..the staff is very helpful. Alvin and Ms Terri are both great instructors. Alvin is very committed to his job and does his best to give you the knowledge you need to pass your test. If I had to do it again, I would definitely chose this facility.
Negative experience: If you ain’t a fast learner this not a place for you. Don’t matter how much you ask for help. They only will go so far an to intend to help you feel like they didn’t put the effort towards the price you paying for.
Fantastic experience: It was stressful, trying, and alot to learn in a short time for an older guy but they answered all my questions and I passed 1st try for cdl. The Horse Trailer Guy...
Negative experience: DO NOT come to this school if you have never driven a truck. Carl is not going to teach you the things you need to learn no matter how much you ask him to help you. He is aware we are new drivers, he still does not give us the basics of what we are doing. If you ask for help (even once), he becomes up set. THIS SCHOOL IS FOR PEOOLE WHO ALREADY KNOW HOW TO DRIVE TRUCKS and just need to obtain the permit. Alvin is a magnificent teacher. Alvin will pick up the slack from carl knowing there is not time for slack picking. Alvin makes sure he's with you every step of the way.
Negative experience: Horrible people run this company
Fantastic experience: A very good school and I would recommend drive train over any other school.
