Negative experience: My experience with Tomi 2 years ago was so stressful and unprofessional that I left and went to a different driving school. I’m hoping Hawkins has improved since then so no other teen has to go through that. Here’s an edit because I can’t reply for clarification: I actually was just recently thinking about my great experience at the second driving school I went to and graduated from which made me then think about Hawkins and I decided to write a review even though it’s been a while. And I stated that I do hope Hawkins has improved since then because I’m not claiming it’s like that currently. I also never claimed to “request” a new school through Hawkins, I found one on my own.

Fantastic experience: I highly recommend Tomi Hawkins if you are looking for your teens to learn to drive safely in the Boise area. I first met Tomi in 2012, when I entered the drivers education field. Tomi took me under her wing, and became my mentor. I cannot express how much Tomi has taught me, over the years. Tomi is without a doubt, a leader in our industry. Every instructor I know calls Tomi for any guidance they need. Tomi gave me the skills, and the tools that I needed to maneuver through different learning styles with each student, She helped me learn how to best help special needs students, and students that just really struggle with the motor skills required to learn safely. This can be a rough task, but she is so dedicated to helping your kids stay alive in our overgrown communities. I am thankful that we have mentors and exceptional instructors like Tomi, that are committed to turning out drivers that will stay alive, and that others would not regret sharing the road with! Thank you for all you do for others, Tomi Hawkins.

Fantastic experience: Great driving experience! Good instruction while driving and when I would do something wrong she would help me understand how to fix my mistakes in a way I understand. I feel like a much more confident driver now than I did when I started.

Fantastic experience: Hands down, the best out there! Tomi has been the instructor for all three of my children. The first two just a few years apart. My last child just completed his course, five years after his sister. Tomi remembered who I was after all of that time. I was so relieved to know she was still on the road teaching. I 110% trust her to keep my children safe and teach them what they need to know. She has so many years of experience and is dedicated to educating the new up and coming drivers. Thank you, Tomi for being there! As a parent it's a stressful situation and you took my stress away!

Positive experience: Online and in-person went smoothly. But for those concerned about Covid safety, you should know she doesn't wear a mask. I'd be ok with her not wearing a mask, but I found out later that the first 2 sessions she was coughing or clearing throat. If she was sick, I would say not working would have been the right thing to do, and putting on a mask would have been better than nothing. The viral load is high from being in the car with someone who is talking and coughing and clearing throat for hours.

Fantastic experience: Has taught two of my children and they both say she has done a great job making them feel both comfortable and confident.

Fantastic experience: I am so glad I chose Hawkins for my daughter's drivers ed. Tomi was incredibly professional but also very understanding and absolutely accommodating. She was able to see that my daughter was not quite ready to get in the car and was so kind and patient with her. Tomi was also super responsive and thorough in communications (something I find hard to come by). She really is the BEST kind of teacher and I cannot recommend Hawkins enough.

Fantastic experience: Tomi was amazing with both of our boys. She never made them feel nervous and was great at letting us know what to work on with them. We would highly recommend her to anyone looking for someone to teach their teen drivers.

Fantastic experience: Tomi has educated all 3 of our drivers. She is kind, personable, and knowledgeable. Our last driver had the WORST availability due to extra curricular activities, however Tomi was so gracious and made it work. I appreciated that my kiddos received one on one instruction. I HIGHLY recommend her, you won’t be disappointed.

Negative experience: Beware!!!! Tomi Hawkins does not comply with CDC recommendations to wear a mask in the vehicle with children. (Which I was unaware of until I picked up my daughter from her first lesson). Of course my daughter wore her mask the whole time. ON TOP OF THAT - My daughter was in tears after an extremely stressful first driving experience with Tomi. She may seem sweet on the phone but DO NOT let your child have a terrible experience like mine did!

She adapts to every student, and for me, she helped me with my first time behind the wheel, a rarity for her students. I liked that it was a one-on-one experience. Throughout my 3 lessons, she was calm, professional, and never faltered. Amazing job!

Fantastic experience: My teens used Hawkins driving school, thankfully! I feel very confident when they are driving because they received a solid foundation. Tomi impressed on them good driving habits, courtesy on the road, defensive driving, etc., all the while exhibiting patience and confident leadership. It is an intimidating time for many teens, starting out on the road, but Tomi gave them the skills, self-confidence, and knowledge to prepare them for a lifetime of safe driving! I would highly recommend Hawkins Driving School!

Fantastic experience: Our daughter had gone through driver's training and had driven with her mother and I several times, but was still not quite ready to get her license. We contacted Tomi, explained the situation, and she immediately scheduled a time to meet with us. She listened to our concerns and more importantly, listened to our daughter, and then they were on the road together. Several hours later, they were back and Tomi explained that she had just needed to go through the fundamentals one-on-one. They practiced backing up, parking, lane changes, checking mirrors and freeway driving. Tomi not only gave our daughter helpful tips on how to pull into parking spaces correctly and checking blind spots, but also gave her the confidence she needed to get behind the wheel on her own. Our daughter passed the driving and written tests the following week with no problem and I don't think she has gotten out of her car since! Thank you Tomi, for your patience, knowledge, and for making the entire process fun while instilling the seriousness and responsibilities that go along with the privilege of driving. My wife and I would highly recommend Tomi to any parent whose child is ready to take this important step - she truly cares about every person who gets into her car.

Negative experience: The owner called me malicious and rude for leaving a bad review, after I got a bad service. She also threatened me by not completing the course until I took it down. Anyone who is thinking about using Hawkins please note that most of the 5 star reviews have the last name of the owner and were also put up around the same time.

Fantastic experience: Hawkins Driver Education is very professional and every graduated student I have talked to who has taken the course gave Tomi awesome credit for her student education/driving instructor skills. Even the conversations over the many years I have known Tomi the parents comments were nothing short of excellent. I know, I sent both my kids through the school and they are the best drivers bar none due to Tomi's extensive knowledge of driver education and the skillful transfer of that knowledge to my kids. Top notch!

Fantastic experience: Coming from personal experience Tomi's Driver Education Class provided wonderful service and a positive learning environment for me. Her lectures were very informative; whenever I had a question she always had an answer. She was very professional when we would go drive through a neighborhood or drive on the freeway, she stayed calm even when I made a mistake. I have heard of other stories from other drivers about their experiences going through drivers education and how the instructor didn't meet the students needs. However, comparing it to Tomi's drivers ed. I felt that my needs were meet and beyond. She truly cares about each and every one of her students, I know this is true based on my experience with Tomi.

It saddens me to see such negative comments after the amazing experience we’ve had. My son has also mentioned how thorough and amazing his lessons have been and often corrects us with flaws in our driving based off of what he learned from Hawkins. We highly recommend her and have two more kids getting close that will be attending as well.

Fantastic experience: Tomi was a great driver's ed instructor! She provided a great learning atmosphere in the classroom and spent time working with each student when necessary. During the driving portion of the course, she was calm and informative, which helped me with my nerves each time I got behind the wheel. She was polite, patient, punctual, and very professional. I would absolutely recommend her!

Negative experience: Buyer beware... The owner is unprofessional. Insisted that costumers remove their reviews before rendering service. Refuse to return perments until her demands are met. The owner is Unreasonable and needs to work on her people skills.

Negative experience: Owner was so disrespectful to me and my daughter. She scheduled a session and they didn't show up and then got mad at us because we were upset about it and never once even apologized about it. My daughter who was frustrated wrote a review on here and was threatened by the owner that she would not finish giving her lessons (holding her permit ransom) until she removed her review and then decided to talk badly about my daughter to me when I was trying to just make amends so we could finish the lessons. I was so appalled by her behavior that not only did she make apts and not keep them but blame us for everything. She finally let my daughter finish her last session but only after we met her demands. This behavior was highly unprofessional and I wouldn't recommend this company.

Positive experience: My experience here is the owner/manager did well with the number of kids in class each day.
