Negative experience: I completed DriveSmart’s Joshua’s Law course online over winter break without any issues, but when I started scheduling my driving lessons in February, I ran into a few problems. My first instructor, Kenneth, was kind and patient, but my second instructor, Bazil, was not. At the time of my second lesson, I was still a very novice driver, having never driven on actual roads outside of neighborhoods, and I told Bazil this. He assured me that he understood, that he wouldn’t yell at me, and that he’d be patient because I was still learning. Halfway through the lesson, while driving on a state highway, I started veering toward the right side where there were cones. I got close to hitting one, and Bazil instinctively yelled at me. Immediately after, he told me I should be looking ahead, not to the side. I responded, “I was,” because I truly was, and he yelled back, “Are you kidding me?!?!” My main issue wasn’t that he yelled in that moment—it was that he had promised he wouldn’t and then did anyway. I don’t think he noticed, but I started tearing up because, like most people, I don’t respond well to being yelled at—especially in the middle of a stressful situation. Driving already gave me a lot of anxiety due to past negative experiences with friends and family. Later in the lesson, while I was waiting to make a right turn, he noticed how tightly I was gripping the steering wheel. He asked how I was feeling, and I said, “Stressed.” He laughed. When he asked again, “Stressed?” and I repeated, “Yeah,” he said, “Let me ask you something. Do you have kids? Do you have a job? No! Stressed??” and laughed even more. As a person, I found his response rude, and as his student, I thought it was unnecessary and unprofessional. Yes, I’m still in high school, but I’m also an overachiever, which can be stressful in itself. More importantly, in that moment, I was clearly saying I was stressed because of driving—not anything else. He also noticed that I mixed up my lefts and rights, and I explained it was because I was stressed. He laughed again and then asked if I had “problems with learning.” I found this deeply offensive and shocking. I do not have a learning disability, and the way he insinuated that I did—annoyed rather than genuinely concerned—was completely wrong. There was another moment where he yelled at me, though I don’t remember the details clearly enough to describe it without risking being inaccurate. Moral of the story: if you see an instructor with a lot of open slots, it’s probably because students are avoiding them. Ask your friends who they drove with and liked, and don’t waste a lesson on a bad instructor like I did.

Fantastic experience: Liz Carter is an absolutely awesome Defensive Driving instructor! She is incredibly knowledgeable and personable. Fantastic experience: I was afraid to take the classes in the salon and especially to do the driving lessons because of all the bad comments here, but I am so happy to have taken the classes in the salon. The teachers were so kind, I really loved them! I want to thank my instructor Nancy Roberts so much. I took all three sessions with her and she is very patient and kind. My language is not English and she made an effort to speak my language! I really loved her, she made me feel very comfortable during my sessions, thank you for everything! Also, thank you to my instructor Scott Rose, with whom I took my driving test, thank you for your patience and for explaining each point. And of course, thank you very much to Genesis Moraga for your kindness at the support office for helping me make my appointments for my test without any problems, thank you all. The best place to take the classes.

Fantastic experience: Both of my daughters have used the services at the Alpharetta location for their driving lessons. We were very pleased with David and Dori. They are very knowledgeable, patient and kind driving instructors. Scheduling and communication was also very good and very much appreciated. Negative experience: My son took their driving course last summer. The classroom time was ok but I felt my other child got much better instruction through another driving school two years earlier. The true frustration with Drivesmart came after the class when we needed to schedule my son's 6 hours of in-car training. We could NEVER get it scheduled. They sent emails for weeks in a row apologizing that their schedule was full, knowing that their customers were very upset, but I never saw a solution to the problem. We tried for nearly 5 months to get his drives scheduled. We could never find an opening. At 6 months, the drives included in his class expired, and at that point I gave up. Now it's a year later, and I need to get a certificate that he at least completed the 30 hours of classroom time. Their website contact form is blank. Their phone number goes to voice mail, which tells me to email "[email protected]" - that email bounces. Terrible company, and a complete waste of $500.

Jenelle's superb attention to detail & excellent customer service is why we will recommend others to Drive Smart Georgia. Positive experience: Bought the package for my daughter, class time, 6 hours of driving, and road test. The class was fine but trying to schedule driving time is a nightmare. Had I known it would be such an issue, I wouldn’t have used this company. They are using the same excuse of why it’s so bad in someone’s review 5 years ago- almost verbatim. My fault for choosing them as I didn’t read the reviews prior. I have tried to schedule driving instructor time but they release the schedule at noon on a Tuesday. I can’t stop teaching to get on my computer at noon so by the time I am able to look- every thing at reasonable times are gone. And these are weeks in advance. So from the time my kid finished the class to the time she drove with an instructor was about 6 weeks. I was offered a fraction of what I paid in a refund when I called- but that’s unacceptable. Hiring another school’s instructor would be around 350 dollars. So I would have been out of money and time. I decided to try a night drive as it was one of two classes they could offer. I said fine but I need to have her picked up at our home. No problem, right? The night of my daughter’s first lesson, the driver was at the incorrect location. Not her fault and she did everything she could- even coming to get my daughter. If it wasn’t for Ashley, I would have given the company one star. If Drivesmart Georgia wants to improve their business, they need to start by giving this woman a raise. Ashley 5 stars: Drivesmart Georgia 1 star.
We are terribly sorry for your frustration concerning scheduling drives for your daughter. Due to illnesses and a VERY slow authorization from the DDS to hire new drivers, we did run short on available drive times. We admit it and sincerely apologize to you and our other valued customers. On a positive note, I have passed your positive comments about Ashley to our CEO so that he can recognize this particular instructor. We're happy to hear that your daughter was able to complete her drives.
Fantastic experience: My daughter was originally registered at the Johns Creek location. However, after having a bad experience there, we transferred to Alpharetta Office. So far, we had nothing but the BEST experience!!! The office staff is friendly, polite, and very professional. They will work with you and help you schedule your driving sessions. Unlike the Johns Creek location, they have NEVER EVER treated me rudely or disrespectfully. Jenelle and Shundra are amazing ! My session was double booked and Jenelle worked her magic out and things fell into place :). Thank you ! I couldn’t be thehappier with my experience at this location!
Negative experience: Timothy Morrow is BY FAR the worst instructor there is in this company. First, he showed up over 15 minutes late. His car was very messy and had a bad odor to it. During my lesson, he was on his phone for the majority of it. He did not pay attention to my road or my driving. He got angry with me when I had trouble with parking and belittled me, as well as ate my entire ride. On the way back, he asked about my academics and he kept telling me that driving "was not rocket science" when clearly I am a new driver. I cried during the ride and had to pull over while he said nothing and never apologized. An awful experience and a truly terrible person.
We are so sorry to hear about your driving lesson. Our general manager has spoken to the instructor and he was reprimanded for for the condition of the vehicle and for eating in the car. We also spoke to your parent and offered a free tune-up lesson before you take the driving test. Your safety on the road is always our #1 priority. This is why our instructor pointed out mistakes. Negative experience: Although the in class sessions were great, my first in car driving lesson was an awful experience. I have never driven on the main road before then and it was on my profile when I was signed up. The lady I had was super rude and insulting me because I decided to wait until I was 17 to start driving. My first lesson was back in June, but I had to wait several months to even schedule another lesson. My second lesson is today. I have a different instructor today, but I’m afraid that I will be yelled at again. Overall, not the best experience. I am going through the Alpharetta location. If I get yelled at again, I am considering changing locations. Anybody going through Alpharetta location that could recommend a good instructor?
Negative experience: Please don’t opt for the Alpharetta center, especially if you are a new driver and have no prior experience of driving. Even after enrolling for 6+10 hours of classes, coverage of parking maneuvers was very poor. I failed the test at their onsite center because my parking did not meet their expectations (fair enough but I had spent so much money already). I was asked to purchase the tune up (which again will not be given on same day as driving test) and additional hours for parking. Very business minded, takes a lot of time to book classes with the same instructor. Go for the same instructor should you opt to join. Every new instructor will start from the scratch, beware if you are a new driver. I did not go back even though I had a free retake, overall very expensive. Took my test in DMV and passed.
As much as we want all students to pass their test, our top priority is that the student is safe for themselves and others on the road. You did take 16 hours of driving lessons with us and we were very thankful for your business. The DDS recommends a minimum of 40 hours behind the wheel experience before taking the test. All of our instructor report cards stated that you needed more practice time between lessons. You took all lessons and your test within a 60-day period. As a brand new driver, that simply was not enough time to master brand new driving skills in a new country. We apologize that you did not have a good experience, but your safety is always our #1 priority.
Fantastic experience: My two sons took the drivers ed classes, the driving lessons and the driving tests at Drive Smart Alpharetta. They learned a lot both in class and on the road, and passed their tests the first time. They didn't have the same driving instructor each time (although when you sign up for the lessons, you can choose your instructor/time so you can keep the same instructor if you wish) which was fine because my sons said the instructors were consistent in their teaching. The instructors were patient and friendly and gave the parents a quick debrief after the lesson. They also emailed a debrief. I would definitely recommend Drive Smart.
Fantastic experience: I have put three teenagers through the John's Creek Drive Smart program and I will say that by far it has been the best company to work with that I have experienced. Their website is very user friendly, their classes are very informational, customer service is great and nothing beats being able to take your road test with Drive Smart vs the DMV. I had one child that took their test through the DMV (due to Drive Smart did not offer this at that time)... it was an awful experience compared to my other two children. WELL WORTH THE MONEY for introducing your child to driving. Wonderful experience!

Negative experience: not good, the driving instructor stopped at a gas station and waited with student for a few min outside to "stretch" meanwhile i am paying to be driving
Negative experience: The classroom course is great according to my son who is enrolled and has taken this portion. The scheduling process for the behind the wheel training and third party test is not acceptable however. I was assured before we signed up that there is typically plenty of availability, this is not the case at all. Currently there is only one 2 hour session available in the entire month of August. My son is having to wait a month past his birthday to get his license because of this. The reps I have spoken to about this tell me it is never this busy and they are trying to hire new instructors and that the owner of the company is even stepping up to give lessons but none of this remedies the issue we are having with scheduling. Very disappointed with that we chose this driving school.
