Southbury Driving Academy/ Driver's Ed Program

Fantastic experience: I called in on short notice for a 2 hr driving course and car rental for the dmv road test and was accommodated without extra charge and zero hassle. Gregorry was a great instructor for the 2 hrs I was under his care, and gave me the confidence needed to pass my road test with zero issues and no points off. Can’t recommend him enough, don’t be scared off by the bad reviews as I believe they are just disgruntled people who failed their test due to their own negligence or lack of sufficient practice behind the wheel.

Negative experience: I would personally would AVOID this company if you were thinking about taking the 8 Hour Safe Driving Course. Gregor Burrus did not sign the class tracker of mine or give me a yellow slip. When calling and coming in person he acted like he couldn’t be bothered and even said that he could see that I was there due to the specific papers you’d only have if you were in the class but, he couldn’t authorize it because by law I would need the yellow slip from him but, he never gave me one. I took the class back in 2021 on Zoom and $99 dollars down the drain. I also feel if I were a teacher or instructor I would at least show some compassion or at the time call, email, or get in contact some sort of way to ensure my students got all their credentials to guarantee they would be able to take the road test. As my responsibility as a teacher and or instructor. When I went in today Gregor Burrus told me about the yellow paper and told the girl to show me a copy of what the yellow slip. Then he left/drove off and never checked to see if I had it or not or show any concern.

Fantastic experience: I can't say enough good things about Southbury Driving Academy Learning to drive felt way less intimidating thanks to their patient and knowledgeable instructors. Being able to do the 8-hour alcohol test online was a lifesaver with my schedule, and the price was seriously the best around! The customer service went above and beyond – quick email responses and super helpful. From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed and they clearly explained all the test options and prices. I even reached out months later needing a certificate copy, and they helped me print it right away! I'm so grateful for their support and will absolutely recommend it to anyone who needs a great driving school."

Negative experience: They kept going up on the price and they said if I took their course they'd make sure I passed my driver's test and when I failed they said I'd have to pay again when they said it was a one time fee. The instructor wasn't even giving me pointer to pass, he was just flirting with me the entire time

Fantastic experience: This review is to express our appreciation for the TERRIFIC EXPERIENCE our 16 year old (at that time) son had at the Southbury Driving Academy / Waterbury Driver’s Education Program in early 2022. His use of your off site testing option enabled him to get to school after the test and maintain his attendance record of no absences for his 2 years at High school. The fantastic service level during his license attainment process was consistent with the positive learning environment of our eldest son (approximately 6 years ago). We also wanted to acknowledge your successful efforts to adhere to the DMV requirements. We found the registration, classes and road training processes efficient and convenient. Both our older sons were well prepared to be competent and safe drivers. We look forward to working with you and your organization to navigate the DMV driver license process for our youngest son (16 years old). Thank you!

Fantastic experience: The staff are very nice and helpful, they even helped me with booking my test without charge. I took the alcohol and safe driving class and they gave me important tips how to pass the test

Negative experience: Please be aware of this school their scam artist they take your money and want more more money from you always switching your dates or canceling your driving lessons after you pay after you finish the class they don't put in your paperwork saying you can pleaded everything for DMV so that you can get a license please be aware they're waste your time and your money

Told my sister 3 different exam dates . mind you she already had the testing date set months ago!! when taking lessons they would send her different dates when she already had the dates noted Instructor was disgusting telling her inappropriate things Disgusting place !irresponsible!!! Negative experience: Esta compañía es horrible, me dieron practica en un carro y el día del examen me mandan otro carro, y me mandan otra persona, no te enseñan bien todo lo que necesitas saber para tu examen es una pérdida de tiempo y de dinero y siempre están rápidos.

Negative experience: This school is just out for the money. Look for another school. They charge $25 to reprint a paper that takes two seconds. They also made my son run around town to find a printer just to complete their form and bring it back to them so they can give him the certificate of completion. We could have paid them $1 to print it but instead we had to use gas going across town to staples just to return for them to give him the certificate. He had already paid for the course. It’s just ridiculous and if I were you I would look elsewhere.

Fantastic experience: The staff will work with you and I promise they will meet what the customers need. Very friendly and helpful! They helped me out so much and work very hard for me to meet my needs to receive my license. I highly recommend taking this driving school. It is worth it!

Negative experience: Stay far away from this place… he made me give my card number then I.D then said I cannot take the class due to his own negligence. It was the eight hour safe driving class and he made a million excuses in 10 seconds. I read the google reviews and did not listen. Take this advice, you should.

Positive experience: I took 12 hours of driving lessons with this school, but I took my driving test with a different driving school. I passed my driving test, and I believe that I was able to accomplish this because of all of the help that I received from the driving instructors. While I’m grateful for their help in preparing me for my test, I have to give this business a three star review. With the exception of two specific instructors, the driving instructors are not at all on the same page about how to drive. There were a multitude of occasions where I received conflicting information about driving and the laws of the road, and had to resort to using Google and YouTube to piece it all together. One instructor literally told me that you don’t need to use your turn signals when reverse parking after you’ve pulled over to the side of the road. That statement (and many others) were in DIRECT conflict with everything that I’ve ever been taught about driving. In addition to the inconsistencies between the instructors, this business is very disorganized. They attempted to schedule me at any time despite me repeatedly explaining my available hours, and they even rescheduled one of my driving lessons without telling me. On a positive note, they were quite flexible when it came to rescheduling lessons that they had scheduled improperly, as well a lesson that I had to cancel. Lastly, the owner of this driving school had an unfortunate habit of touching and tapping my arm whenever he was talking. At first, it was a mild annoyance, until one day, he suddenly and forcefully grabbed my wrist and squeezed it very tightly. When I tried to pull my arm from his grip, he proceeded to dig his thumb and his fingernails into my skin. Luckily, this all happened while the car was in park, so I was eventually able to rip my arm from his grasp. I do not believe that he intended to harm me, but there is no reason that he should’ve been touching me to begin with.

Negative experience: I wish I can a negative amount of stars !!! They will scam you and keep pushing off claiming "you need more practice" this is a scam !!!!

Negative experience: I was rear ended by a student. I was asked to come into the office and the owner was rude and dusty he said he wouldn't give me the info of his student that hit me. That's okay too I called the better business bureau and I'm filing a civil suit.

Fantastic experience: Gregory was an absolute delight to work with. My child had the full course, and we live in Southbury, so it was a bit out of the way for them but no sweat!! They worked with us several times around her sports and after school things, then once COVID-19 hit, they made sure to reach out and gave us time to regroup. She actually passed her offsite test on July 10th!! My baby is licensed thanks to Greg Jr. and Tom!! Wonderful drivers and wonderful people.

Negative experience: THIS IS A SCAM, THIS IS NOT A LEGITIMATE BUSINESS! CHECK THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU, THEY ARE FLAGGED AS A SCAM, THEY WILL TAKE YOU ON MULTIPLE PRACTICES FOR $65 AN HOUR THEN CANCEL THE ACTUAL TEST WITH NO REFUND, AND GIVE YOU A DUMB EXCUSE LIKE THEY ARE "OVERBOOKED" THEN NOT GIVE YOU BACK THE MONEY FOR THE PRACTICE, THEY ARE SWINDLERS, STAY FAR AWAY

Negative experience: We had a test scheduled and he overbooked so he canceled mine and is only giving a refund of 100 instead of 300. The customer communication was absolutely horrendous he was impossible to get ahold of he was ridiculously rude to the point of flat out cruelty. In short I've never had a worse experience please revaluate your workers and let go of the ones who need to be let go

My daughter schedule a driving practice with him, we had to cancel due to the virus situation, as I was reading the paper work it says you have to give 24 hour notice to cancel if you don’t it will result in a 50$ fee per session if you don’t cancel within the 24 hours, it doesn’t say anything about the payment being no refundable, when I called to cancel which I gave more than 24 hours he gave me an attitude and said no I can’t have my money back I said no and no means no, he wouldn’t let me talk or explain then hang up the phone on me, very unprofessional I will not recommend this place but parent if you do please go with your kids they take advantage of the kids

Fantastic experience: This is the best driving school in Waterbury. Every driving instructor is great, they know what they are doing and they are 100% capable of getting you where you want to be as a driver as long as you follow instructions, and is able to take suggestions where it is needed. I went from not being able to keep a car straight to being a safe, confident decent driver with a license.

Fantastic experience: I use this company through Veyo for medical transportation. They are by far The best service I've ever had the pleasure of using. The cars are always spotless, the drivers prompt, and the texts you get saying they are on the way or have arrived is the most convenient, efficient, and just plain brilliant system I've seen. This way you don't have to wait in the cold. Every driver I've had has not only been just polite, but personable and a joy to converse with. Or, if you prefer to read they just listen to the radio. My favorites are Kenneth and Greg Jr but everyone is great. They're safe drivers but not slowpokes. They don't have me gripping The armrests like some of the cabs I've been in. Hands down the best service. They are also caring, kind people. I don't wAnt anyone to get in trouble so I won't say a name, but on one of my trips recently I was telling my mother how the office won't let me come back for the pre surgical testing I need, or at all, unless I made a $5 payment toward a bill my insurance hasn't paid yet. I'm disabled But not yet collecting disability, nor do I get SNAP or cash assistance. I literally had 38 cents and the woman called me a liar and said I must have money for food and clothing etc. I explained I'm living with my mother and were both surviving on her disability which barely covers the rent and leaves us with very little for the month. I told her I don't eat for days until it's a necessity at which point I have to dig through people's trash to find recyclable items just to eat. I was extremely embarrassed and she made me feel like trash myself and still refused to allow me to return go the care unless I brought a certain dollar amount toward payment. So I left the office in tears, feeling like a lower form of life and not knowing what I was going to do to get the care I need. I told my mother all of this on the ride home. When we got out of the cab I told the driver thank you and to have a nice safe day and went to my door. Before I could enter they honked so I went back thinking I must have left something. They rolled down the window and held a hand out with the exact amount the office insisted I pay in order to come back. I tried not to take it, I told them it wasn't necessary, it's my problem I will figure it out but they insisted. Recognizing the kind heart of this person and realizing they wouldn't take no for an answer I took it because as they said "Everyone just needs a little help sometimes". I will make sure the money gets back to them as soon as the next disability cycle hits, because they work hard for their money. But I wanted people to hear this story to know that the people who work for this company care. They wanted to make sure I got the medical care I needed and now thanks to them I can. They are a great company with excellent drivers who really care about the people they are driving. Request them before anyone else. They are the kind of company that deserves your business.

Fantastic experience: This place is pretty convenient downtown Wtby. The material is simple, and Greg is a great teacher to learn about driving from, I passed my road test with noo mistakes. Money well spent.
