Southwest Motorcycle Safety: Reviews
Fantastic experience: I can't recommend this class enough!! If you're a new rider or just need a refresher. This was a GREAT class to take. It was challenging, fun, and kept you engaged the whole time (even in the classroom) The instructors were incredibly kind and patient with all of us, and I couldn't be more thankful. I appreciate the time and dedication they have for the safety of riding! I'll definitely be returning for future classes!
Thanks Rachel, we enjoyed having you in the class and look forward to being a part of your riding journey!
Fantastic experience: This is a well run organization with good people. I was able to get ALL of the testing done in one day - last weekend, in the rain.
Fantastic experience: They where Informative and easy to schedule with.
Fantastic experience: Took the beginner 2 day course with Mia and Brian and had a blast learning not only how to not get killed on a motorcycle but also how to drive one . They had good variety of bikes so if your tall or short like me your good to go . I found good value In the class and everything they thought was part of the test so there was no surprises and they seems genuinely happy about teaching a bunch of new scared drivers lol . Would recommend this course and plan to come back for more as I continue to learn how to ride .
Fantastic experience: The very best! Great training by a great team of instructors. Highly recommended!!
Fantastic experience: This was the best course ever. I started riding motorcycle late in life. I was Terrified that I would never get the hang of it. I took the beginner level one course to get my permit. The instructor was so great. She was able to pinpoint my weaknesses and coach me even with all the other people in the course she still found time to help me with my specific weaknesses. I have since started riding In baby steps and all the fundamentals she taught me are working. I trusted her and it paid off. I recommend this school to anyone.
Fantastic experience: Highly recommend signing up with these guys for any of the numerous classes they offer. I have learned a lot going through my motorcycle endorsement process with them and feel much more comfortable on the road after learning the techniques they train on you on. The instructors all have a great attitude. I plan on signing up for their Advanced On Road Training class in the future.
Thanks Tyler, we enjoyed having you train with us- we look forward to advanced training with you. SW Motorcycle Safety
Fantastic experience: 5 star training center. Highly recommend. Khembar is very good instructor very helpful. I did my accelerated training here. Call Khembar and he will help you with everything. Thank you all guys.
Thanks Cenk, we enjoyed having you in the training.
Fantastic experience: Coming from years of off-road I wasn’t sure what I was gonna learn as far as bike control. But I did learn a little in the class I took. It was definitely an experience I’ll never forget but the Class was awesome. They did everything in their power to get us through the class even though it was 36 outside and raining with snow and ice all around. They got the lot cleared and made it safe for us to test. The instructors are amazing people! Made sure every single one of us understood the instructions and made sure we passed. I will be returning for more classes. The classroom was full of great information.
Thanks for training with us!
Fantastic experience: Took the LTR class with Moe and Khembar and had a blast!!! Both Moe and Khembar are extremely easy to communicate with and made the class FUN! Khembar got on his personal bike and showed the class how to do certain drills which was a huge help. I highly recommend booking through SW motor safety
Thanks Jake! We had fun as well.
Fantastic experience: I took the 2 day course for the LTR level 1 here in July. Khembar and Verne were great and taught the classes both days. We had a mix of riders from green to advanced. It turned out to be a lot of fun. I witnessed some spills and thrills during the 2 days. The instructors were very informative and very patient throughout. I’ll be back to complete the RR Level 2 class next. I would definitely recommend this Motorcycle School. ~John H
Fantastic experience: Took the permit class, really enjoyed it. Been riding for a while and I feel like I picked up a lot of skills and information in two days. Everyone passed, Even the ones who were worried they wouldn't. Great class, excellent experience. I will be back!
Fantastic experience: What a great experience! I am 46 and never ridden a motorcycle in my life. The instructors were SO incredibly knowledgeable, and supportive in making sure I understood the material and made sure I could perform the skills needed with confidence. I am excited to come back for another class in the future!!!!!
Thanks Sacha! Was a fun class and we look forward to helping you continue your journey into riding.
Fantastic experience: Super helpful. Bike died on the last portion of the test. Was able to borrow a bike from someone to finish the test out ... the staff at SW Motorcycle helped me fix my bike to get home. A big thank you!
Glad it got you home. Ride safe!
Fantastic experience: I took the LTR class last fall and finished my endorsement tests a few days ago. The instructors, especially Khembar are extremely patient and knowledgeable. They spend countless hours training riders and give nothing but tons of support and good advice. Thanks SO much!!
Fantastic experience: Took The Return Rider class. Great instructors and lots of good info.
Fantastic experience: I had minimal experience riding a motorcycle prior to the Learn To Ride 2 day course I attended. The instructors were knowledgeable and passionate about teaching new riders. I recommend this course to anyone looking to start riding and learning about getting up and running on two wheels.
Fantastic experience: Took my "Learn To Ride" course here 2 days ago, going in with absolutely no experience on a motorcycle. The instructors, Khembar and Verne, both clearly gave a damn about teaching us how to ride safely and wanted to see us all learn the skills required to pass. The course was pretty fun and I definitely plan on coming back for a "Returning Rider" course later this year. Great place to learn new skills or unlearn bad habits.
Fantastic experience: I took the LTR class with Khembar and Moe in March for my permit and then with Khembar and Joe a few weeks afterwards for my endorsement. On both occasions, I found the classes to be well presented and organized. There were a few notable lessons that I learned on both classes that made me realize why I experienced certain riding mistakes in the past, but more importantly, I learned how to correct them and apply better street riding strategies to avoid them. Another good thing about the classroom portion: From time to time, the instructor (Khembar on both of my classes) would provide additional information to really illustrate why certain parts of the Washington Rider Manual are important to remember. This would include either his personal experience or a video/photo that showed what could potentially happen if some of these points are ignored, or what to do in case a rider finds him/herself in a similar situation. The range portion of the classes were equally informative. The instructors would take time to properly teach technique and would pay special attention to students who need additional attention. All in all, I would recommend these classes to anyone interested in learning how to ride or just brushing up on skills. I plan on taking the Advanced Road Training class in the future when it does become available.
Thanks, Dale! We enjoyed you as well. Check the dates for the on road training- a couple classes still have spots.
Fantastic experience: I took the Can-Am 3-wheeler training course/endorsement. The instructors were great, very thorough, good communication. They took the time to make sure that we knew what we were supposed to do and why. Highly recommended.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! We had fun as well.
Fantastic experience: I took this class a couple years back. I've been riding motorcycles since I was 6 years old. The instructors do a great job of keeping you thinking and learning. We had 2 people in our class of about 20 that had some real problems with the hands on road course, the instructors worked extra hard with them as the reat of us continued practicing for our final exam/tests. One passed, one failed but they encouraged the person to keep practicing and sign up again.
Fantastic experience: I went last weekend to do the begginer class my instructor's were Joe who was really calm and patient. I can't remember the other guys name but man he was hilarious passed both tests with ease and had a alot of fun and definitely recommend this place I already did a returning rider class back in june so I am now fully endorsed thanks guys!
Fantastic experience: I have been there a few times as I let things expire. I have had 5 different instructors, all of whom are top notch. Such as Nate, he has a serious passion about training and helping people learn and goes the extra mile.
Fantastic experience: I took all the written and riding courses. Great Instructors. I'd highly recommend the class.
Fantastic experience: Over the past year, I've taken three classes with SW Motorcycle Safety. Starting as a brand new rider, I took the LTR for my permit. Six months later, I took the Returning Rider for my endorsement. And this past weekend, I took the OTR class. Khembar and team are fantastic instructors and it's obvious they actually give a sh*t about the culture and training people how to safely ride. The LTR is the only state required class, but I highly recommend spending the extra money taking the additional classes -- you will level up substantially in a matter of a few hours when otherwise it might take years, if ever, to get the same kind of improvements these classes offer. Think of training like wearing your gear. You might never need it, but you'll be glad you have it when you eventually do.
Fantastic experience: Wonderful teachers.
Fantastic experience: Extremely helpful knowledgeable and friendly
Thanks Edward, was a joy meeting you
Fantastic experience: Great staff and a friendly environment to learn to ride or take the tests to get a 2 or 3 wheel endorsement
Thanks Sean!
Fantastic experience: Great instructors. Lots of fun. Test tomorrow
Negative experience: Have emailed, left message and talked with someone twice about taking the 3 Wheel Knowledge Test. Said they would put up a time slot on a Saturday, wasn't listed so called to see if it was still going to be available. He said it just wasn't going to work out that day and he asked about doing a Friday Knowledge Test. 4 days and still not listed. I did my 2 Wheel testing and class through them and they were awesome so wanted to do the 3 Wheel with them. Very disappointed in the lack of communication and follow thru. Vancouver doesn't give you any other options too obtain but with them. **Update: After several days of checking their sites with no time slots for the knowledge test nor any response to my email or a call back. We reserved time with a class in Tri-cities. Did notice after we reserved they had finally put in a time slot. To late as we had already paid some place else.
Positive experience: Taking the Novice class so I can hone my motorcycle riding skills, there is always something to learn from every experience in life.the instructor is top notch.
Fantastic experience: I took this class a while back it was freaking fun and I really learned alot in just a short time lots of info and awsome instruction by amazing thank fellas
Fantastic experience: Nate and Joe were great and patient instructors. You can tell they are passionate about riding and safety and pass that knowledge onward even if Nate wouldn’t teach me how to do a wheelie. Joe was definitely funnier
Glad you had a good time. Thanks for the feedback.
Negative experience: I thought I did fine, though my bike being much bigger had to test in the same small course that these smaller bikes did and I feel that the test was flawed because of that. A 1500cc HD can not navigate in a small course that this 125cc or the 600cc did and they did it with ease. So if I go thru with them again will earn another easy $50 bucks. Not Happy!
Cliff,
In Washington State, all motorcycle testing is standardized across the state. This means every testing site, in every city across Washington uses the same skills test and the same test course for all sizes of motorcycles. Information about motorcycle testing in Washington can be found on the Washington Department of Licensing website at https://www.dol.wa.gov/driverslicense/mototesting.html . Included at that link are videos that outline the 5 test runs with helpful tips, common errors, and a 1300cc motorcycle completing the test runs. Note: on run #2, the U-turn area is now 24-feet for all motorcycles. If you have any questions or issues with Washington’s motorcycle skills test, you should contact the Washington Department of Licensing by at [email protected]
Thank you,
SW Motorcycle Safety
Fantastic experience: Took the 2 day Novice class. The instructors John and David kept things relaxed and fun. My driving is all on scooters so when I booked I asked if they had any automatic scooters I could train on. A 125cc Zuma was available and John and David really helped me improve my skills. Nice that I could train like I plan to drive. Should have done this years ago!
Thank you for the response.
Fantastic experience: Josh and Joe we're great! I highly recommend the beginners training course to hone your skills and learn new safe riding tips. The riding course was quite cramped at times. But overall a great experience. ️
Hi, we have adopted a new curriculum, it is not as cramped now. Thank you for the review.
Fantastic experience: Susan & Brad were great instructors! I learned a lot from this class and feel that they were professional but fun as well. I highly recommend this class to everyone!
Fantastic experience: My instructors were Nate and joe. Both were very clear with there instruction and in demonstrating the skills needed, they also gave positive feedback during range time to improve what I was doing. During the class portion there was plenty of time for discussions on the topics we were going over. At no point did I feel rushed, or that we didn’t adequately go over a topic. I would also like to thank both of my instructors because I was in a hit and run just 2 days after completing my class and getting my endorsement, and because of them and what I learned i feel it made a big difference in the outcome of the accident. My bike was totaled and all I ended up with was a broken ancle and broken tibia, but that is because the car drove over my leg as they sped away. If SWMS could reach out to me I would like to thank my instructors for everything I learned from them.
Hi Aaron,
Thank you for your feedback. We're glad to hear that you enjoyed your class and learned skills to make you a safer rider. That is very unfortunate about your incident with the hit and run driver, but we're happy to hear you're safe and wish you a speedy recovery. If you would like us to pass anything along to your instructors, please feel free to call us at (360)571-4061 or email us at [email protected] and we'll be happy to do so.
Thank you,
SW Motorcycle Safety
Negative experience: My daughter was taking the Novice Rider Class December 20-23, 2018, when she had a medical emergency during class. She has since been medically cleared- the next day. She has requested that she be allowed complete or retake her class as her instructor suggested she could. But, SW Motorcycle Safety will not allow her to retake her class without paying full price for the class again. Neither will SW Motorcycle Safety refund her class tuition. They are considering her medical emergency as a No Show. I recommended that she attend SW Motorcycle Safety as I received my motorcycle endorsement through SWMS six years ago. We would very much appreciate hearing from SWMS with the news that my daughter would be allowed to retake her class at no additional charge. Otherwise, she will take her class in Oregon. And, I will recommend that others take their classes in Oregon as well.
We realize that things happen in life that are not controllable. Sometimes illness, car trouble or other family issues get in the way of perfect scheduling. That is also true for our business. The incident described here was definitely not within our control. We have costs, such as instructor pay, facilities rental, and other operating costs every time we run classes and test sessions.
Our refund and cancellation policy is clearly stated, up front, and we follow that policy. The policy is communicated to our customers when they register and again at the first session when customers sign an acknowledgement of that policy. When a registered customer is a No Show, Late or Drop, they must register again.
This policy is not unfair as the policy is designed to be equal to, and applies to, all customers.
Thank you,
SW Motorcycle Safety
Negative experience: The lady at the front door was awesome, she was very respectful and helpful. The guy giving the test NOT SO MUCH. He yelled at a guy that stood up to turn his test in because I was already sitting at his desk turning mine in. Then he wouldn't tell me the answers that I missed for future reference. He seemed like a grumpy old dude that didn't wanna be working on a Sunday.
Hi Namon,
The Washington State Department of Licensing requires that we uphold the integrity and security of the Knowledge Test and has strict rules for doing so. This includes us not being allowed to share the answers to test questions after someone has completed the Knowledge Test. We recommend that if someone is curious about any questions from the test that they revisit the Two-wheel and Three-wheel Motorcycle Operator Manual from the DOL.
Thank you for your understanding,
SW Motorcycle Safety
Fantastic experience: Love this class the instructors are amazing walk you everything thank you Southwest Motorcycle Safety
Fantastic experience: Although I had difficulty finding the location the first time I went there I did find that the testing was prompt and the facility was well-organized. I intend to enroll in more advanced classes in the future.
