Abilene Safety Instruction: Reviews
Fantastic experience: Books did amazing he’s very patient and understanding he takes the time to explain things and break them down I haven’t been riding very long but there was ALOT for me to learn how to do better!!! Thank you brooks
Fantastic experience: Well I’ll start with you’ll be nervous. But our instructor Mort made the class enjoyable. As long as you pay attention to there instruction you will pass. Plus all the advice and instruction are useful for daily riding
Fantastic experience: Great instructors. Will say they line up either Yamaha V-Strom and Groms. The V-Stroms hold up well in every part of the exercises, but if you plan to or end up riding a Grom it can be difficult to pick up to the needed speed unless you get it a decent amount of throttle. While the instructors give amazing instruction I recommend paying a lot of attention to the e-course, and watching a few videos on friction zone. Overall a great place to take the MSF, and the instructors will do everything in their power to give you the practice and chances you need to pass. Unless you are becoming a hazard to you or someone else they will work with you.
Negative experience: My instructor was pretty rude.
Fantastic experience: I finished the class yesterday and had Peter and Chad as my instructors. They were both fantastic instructors that are not afraid to point out what you need to be better at, and then actually help you get better! I got the impression that their style of instruction made it clear that they want you to SURVIVE while riding any motor cycle in any condition! As a 40+ year old that hasn’t ridden since high school, I highly recommend Abilene Safety Instruction!
Fantastic experience: I took the BRC and it was a great course. Mort and Chad were awesome to learn from, and provided direct but respectful feedback. While this is a basic course, I recommend having some familiarity with riding motorcycles or dirtbikes before you attend. If you have never ridden before, this may be too fast pace for you. This is not a "gaurenteed pass" type of class. I highly recommend this course for anyone who is looking to hone their skills or get their license.
Fantastic experience: Great Motorcycle Instruction!
Fantastic experience: Did all the paperwork online and they provide helmets. As a new rider that was a big plus for me.
Negative experience: Great guys if only they let me keep trying to actually get the course done when i was fully motivated to as a brand new rider with no experience unlike the rest of the class. Instead of comparing me to people who know how to ride they could have put me on another bike or payed me more mind. But nope i listened to the instruction to speed up i hit my break cause i didnt wanna break someones car and boom im kicked out of the course. Ig don't go here if you're a new rider expecting some leeway.
Your performance has nothing to do with any other student in the class or your perception of their experience level. Many others were new riders as well. We provide individual coaching to each rider based on their needs. Unfortunately, you were repeatedly grabbing the front brake and looking down at the ground. The instructors were constantly reminding you to correct this. This exercise requires you to speed up to approx 5-10 mph to shift to second gear. You panicked, grabbed the front brake and crashed. Since this was repeated behavior that you had continued for more than half the day, and it was getting worse, for your safety, you had to be dismissed.
Fantastic experience: These guys are great. I hated how they hounded me but greatly appreciate they did. I didn't give up. And today I got on my bike smiling knowing what I learned and felt so much more confident in riding. Sure i only have a Super Cub 125cc but with their help, I'm not nervous to get on and go.
Fantastic experience: Best instructors. Explain things very well. Efficient. Don’t just pass you to be nice, they make you earn it, as you should.
Fantastic experience: For anyone that takes this class I strongly recommend you use the suzuki or yamaha 250 not the honda grom that had me & a few guys sore but other then that good class & good exercises
Fantastic experience: We took the basic rider course with Gil and Glen. Our class had 6/6 so a few of us slowed others down. These two instructors were able to teach 4 of us newbies how to safely operate a motorcycle. I myself feel like I could use more training. I would love to take the course again just for the experience I gained. It's a safe place to learn all the components of riding a motorcycle plus you have coaches yelling at you to turn your head. It's not a place to have fun It's a place to learn. It's a lot of pressure to do things right especially when you can hear the harsh words of other riders, or the coach. Also expect to be on that motorcycle all day. It's hot
Fantastic experience: Gil and Jeromy were the instructors when I took the basic motorcycle course to get my license. They took the instructing very seriously because the skills we learned could make the difference between life and death. They were helpful in the places we needed to improve our skills and offered great advice when needed. The course was pretty fast paced but I left more confident in my motorcycle driving abilities, and did get my motorcycle license.
Fantastic experience: Instructors were knowledgeable and patient with students. Good pacing and instruction style.
Fantastic experience: The instructor new how to ride and instructed well, learned alot.
Fantastic experience: The guys that work here are very knowledgeable and want you to do well. This is a pretty fast paced course though, so if you're like me and didn't know anything going in just make sure you are paying attention and ask questions.
Fantastic experience: This is a great course to take, and I had an overall great experience with instructor Brooks. The pace of the course is perfect if you are just learning or wanting to get into riding, and though our group had some interferences, Brooks made sure everyone was comfortable and confident in their skills before moving on, making the space feel safe and nonjudgmental.
Fantastic experience: Great class. Had a great time taking the Can Am trike course. Learned a lot and really appreciated the instruction provided. Be on time, follow the rules, ask questions if you don’t understand something and you can’t go wrong. Loved it.
Fantastic experience: Brooks was a great instructor. He explained and clearly demonstrated every exercise. Whenever i would have trouble with an exercise, he would pull me aside and explain what I was doing wrong and, on occasion, he would get on the bike and demonstrate again. Given that I had never been on a motorcycle before, I had some trouble with multiple exercises. Brooks was patient and gave me every opportunity to get it right, while also making sure I did not hold the entire class back. Given all that, I passed the class, in no small part due to his instruction. Highly recommended.
Fantastic experience: Brooks was an amazing rider coach. He was very patient with all of us while keeping everything safe for us students if proper procedures weren't being followed. It was a great experience and I learned a lot from Brooks (mostly to keep my head up and look where I am going). Would highly recommend this class to anyone who is looking to get their license or just to get a refresher on basic skills and general safety knowledge. Give em a try!
Fantastic experience: *I would like to note, due to previous reviews, I am a FEMALE! I felt zero prejudice or judgement.* Brooks was an absolutely awesome instructor. He corrected me on self taught bad habits. He did so in a firm but not condescending way, he has a great teaching approach. If you have been riding unlicensed: take this course with a mind frame of being teachable, if you are a complete beginner: take in every bit of advise he has. I went into it purely for getting my endorsement, thinking I didn’t have much to learn. I really took away a lot from this course and most of it was due to Brooks teaching. BE TEACHABLE and you will take a lot away from this course. It is not easy, but it is absolutely valuable.
Fantastic experience: Everything was great. I took the BRC and the instructor was very good at explaining and demonstrating the exercises. It was pretty crazy seeing people go from no experience to being able to ride a bike as well as they could in 2 days. Thank you.
Negative experience: DO NOT waste your money, If you are female do not take class they will kick you out and keep your money. What a waste of time and money.
The entire class was female, as was over half the previous class. Gender has nothing to do with it. Safety is the number one priority.
Negative experience: BUYER BEWARE if the student is a minor. Texas DPS won't accept completion of this course as an exam waiver for anyone under 18. This was never explained to me while I visited with them to sign their various papers, but they were happy to take my money anyway. The entire point was to have an exam waiver on a bike provided by the school, as the student does not have one of his own. Called Abilene Safety after an embarrassing trip to the DPS who sent us packing after waiting in line. The person I spoke with told me that the info was listed clearly on the Abilene Safety website. It was and is not. The aloof attitude of the person at Abilene Safety who took my call... "So other than that, what else can I do for you? You're just going to have to be mad" - tells me all I need to know about these people. TL;DR The curriculum is fine, but their business practices leave plenty to be desired. Edit: After second phone call from ASI nothing is different. Verbal treatment kind of veered into patronizing. I know that I repeated my grievance. That's what normal people do when their input is blown off or disregarded. Bottom line is that we changed many plans to enable our son to take this course, and were not informed that he would have to perform a driving test at the DPS with us providing a motorcycle. Vendor needs to be very clear about policy when minors are involved.
Not sure what the issue is. You are required to take the course no matter what age the individual is. So you still had to take the course, the only difference is that DPS will still test a Minor. That is DPS policy, not ours. I'm sorry you didn't know this prior, but it doesn't change anything. he is still required to take the course AND the DPS test. As far as your quotes if what I said, not entirely accurate. But I had to direct the conversation when all you do is repeat the same thing over and over. Otherwise we would be on the phone all day. As far as the DPS policy, that will be on their website, not ours, which I never claimed. We have had hundreds of minors come through, there has never been an issue before. Sorry for your misunderstanding.
Fantastic experience: Took the Basic Riders Corse1 with Mort and Glen as the instructors(I think they rotate instructors) Mort was great and like to joke around some but is serious when needs to be. Glen looks really intimidating at first but he was very cool and gave lot so good feed back. I have never rode a motorcycle meaningfully before and now know how to least get going and basics of what to do. No one got kicked out and they do seem to work with you as much as they can but it is pretty fast paced. Had a lot of fun and learned a ton.
Positive experience: I required a little more help that most, but they provided as much extra encouragement as they had time for. If I could go back, I would probably be a little more comfortable with shifting before doing the course, as they don't give you much time to get used to the motorcycle before they want you to crank up the speed. There were a few times I didn't feel comfortable and they did make me feel like I was slowing everyone down, which I felt was unsafe for myself and their motorcycle. The course is advertised for beginners, I paid the same price as everyone else and wasn't super happy about that. At the very least, I feel like a heads up would have been nice before taking the course as to what they expected you to already know. As someone stated before, it was mostly just long term riders who were looking to get street legal. I probably would recommend them to friends and family, but I may suggest they go elsewhere. Of note is that it could have just been the instructors I had and as they rotate, many other people may have had a different, and more pleasant, experience. I got my motorcycle license and all is well, so they did their job.
Fantastic experience: Mort and jeromy are awesome instructors with great experience as well as they are great veterans! Would highly recommend!
Fantastic experience: Very professional
Fantastic experience: Instructors were very professional. They made everyone from the person who had never been on bike to the lifelong rider feel comfortable. They were thorough with the instruction and made sure everyone understood the curriculum.
Fantastic experience: Friendly and knowledgeable coaches.
Fantastic experience: Went through the MSF course a couple years ago here, and the instructor was real nice and patient with people. Definitely recommend coming here for all the MSF courses(basic & advanced)
Fantastic experience: Awesome place to learn or improve your riding skills!
Fantastic experience: Mort was a knowledgeable and awesome instructor. The school was clean and very comfortable. There equipment was well maintained and easy to learn on. Mort answered all questions I had and passed on very valuable information from his many years of riding. I will be sending my wife and daughter back to this school to get there license as well. I recommend this school to anyone needing there motorcycle endorsement. Thanks mort for a great experience!!!
Positive experience: Can only give a "3". A three for the instructors, but not the course as given. It's advertised as for "beginners" but 3/4 of the students were long-time riders just getting legal. If you fell behind skill-wise they would work with you...to a point. Eventually, the show must go on. The pace was too fast for this beginner, but the skills keep stacking. For what that's worth...
Fantastic experience: Great coaches, clean facility, well kept equipment.
Negative experience: Curriculum was great. My instructor was not so great at all!! If you take there course use a Grom. They are not fair for the course but makes it easy
Negative experience: I went there this weekend and was having trouble with one of the excercises and was given one more chance to prove myself when I couldn't I was dismissed from the program despite on the paper they provided me it states that if I have trouble with the excercise they would help me I feel like I wasted my time and money and would not recommend them to anyone
Fantastic experience: I went threw the class this weekend and had a great time and learn a whole lot the riding coaches where great and i recommend any new rider trying to get there license to come see these guys
Fantastic experience: Great instructor. Took time with each individual when needed!
Fantastic experience: This place was great. The guys that run the course are amazing. I never touched a motorcycle before this course and left an MSF certified rider. They do a great job to teach you and let you know what you need to improve on. Anyone can pass MSF if you come to these guys and listen and learn from what they say. If you can't pass with these guys it's not thier teaching or anything to do with thier facility, the only way you would fail is your own inability to listen and learn to their teaching, especially if you go in thinking that you know it all you will certainly fail trust me, because I had guys in my group who failed previously and admitted it was thier own fault. So take this class, learn, listen, and you will be fine.
Long overdue reply on my part! But I love this review, spot on.
