Fantastic experience: I completely the MSF 3W Course this past weekend. Jason and Ray were incredible coaches! They man the class easy going and extremely knowledgeable. Definitely helped build my confidence. They also displayed patience and encouragement throughout the weekend. Highly recommended taking the course to either learn the basics of maybe touch up on a few things.

Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We’re thrilled to hear you enjoyed the MSF 3-Wheel Course and had such a great experience with Jason and Ray. They take a lot of pride in creating a supportive, confidence-building environment, and we’re glad it made a difference for you.

Congratulations on completing the course, and thank you for recommending us! Ride safe, and we hope to see you again for more training in the future!

Negative experience: I don’t understand this company. I shop and go to the gym in the Southpark mall. WHY would you take up all this space for your classes during the BUSIEST TIMES (the weekend) . WHEN THERE ARE 3 WHOLE parking lots in the mall that are EMPTY literally next to it. Why would you have your classes where there are cars? I don’t trust your students to not hit into my parked car it’s so irresponsible! Go to an empty lot!! Yeah take the actual spots of customers that are trying to go into the dying mall. Just because of this I have to give you a 1 star rating. My fiancé and I ride motorcycles and I would NEVER train in a lot that is busy even if there are cones. SO IRRESPONSIBLE!

PowerRide University
PowerRide University

We understand your concerns and appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback. PowerRide University leases a specific section of the Southpark Mall parking lot, and we are only permitted to operate within that designated space. We cannot relocate to other areas of the property without approval.

Our training program follows strict state and national safety standards, which include requirements for pavement condition, slope, and controlled layout. The location we use was reviewed and approved to meet those standards. While we recognize it may sometimes be inconvenient, safety and compliance are our top priorities.

Our goal is to provide a valuable educational service to the community by helping riders develop the skills they need to be safe on the road. We truly regret that our presence has caused you frustration, and we’ll continue working closely with the mall to minimize any disruption.

Fantastic experience: I just finished my course this weekend and drove down from Orono, Maine in order to get some experience on a bike and to learn the essential skills, how to ride safely, and also get to meet some new people. I had an amazing experience. From day 1, I knew I made a good choice. Neil and Bill are truly incredible coaches that know what they're talking about, are very personable and approachable, and will let you know how you're doing. They will be watching you as you come into exercises and give you advice that is relevant, and also let you know what you did good on so you can continue to keep good habits. My course was with eleven other people. We had two days of riding, kept the same bike for both days, and really got comfortable riding at low speeds, cornering, higher speed (well, not over 30) and shifting. Someone that has never been on a motorcycle before should take this course knowing that you are not going to be the only one and that you will be guided through the exercises. It's a fast paced environment, but after taking this course, I felt like that environment was best. I originally had thought about taking a more individualized course in my hometown when riding season starts but I am so glad I went through PowerRide. It's nice to build that bond with people who are in similar shoes, and learn together. By the time I took my test, I went into it knowing that my coaches instilled in me the skills I needed to pass, and I did. I made two mistakes but considering just a few days before I had never been on a motorcycle, two mistakes is a very impressive accomplishment. I passed! I would recommend PowerRide to anybody. I would recommend them to those who have been on a bike before and want to strengthen their knowledge and ability in a closed course safe environment and I would recommend it to someone who has never been on a bike before. I'm insanely glad I decided to go with this school and had a great time in Virginia enjoying some warmer weather for a few days :)

Hi Zachary thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us! We're thrilled to hear you made the trip down from Orono and that it was well worth it. Neil and Bill will be so happy to know their coaching made such a lasting impression — they take great pride in helping each student grow confidently and safely on a bike.

It's great to hear how well you connected with the group and embraced the fast-paced learning environment — that's exactly the kind of energy we strive for at PowerRide. We’re especially proud of how far you came in just a few days, and congrats again on passing your test! Two small mistakes after starting from scratch? That’s seriously impressive.

Thanks again for your kind words and for recommending us to both beginners and experienced riders alike. Wishing you many safe and fun rides ahead — and if you're ever back in Virginia, don’t be a stranger!

Fantastic experience: Jason and Pi we're excellent instructors. They showed mastery in not only in their level of skill riding motorcycles, but also mastery in the effectiveness of their teaching and instructing skills. They were easily approachable with questions and concerns. They were highly effective at delivering the informative material needed as well as being genuinely enthusiastic about instructing riding techniques. They often injected their invaluable real world scenarios and experiences into  the material making for easier learning and retention of the material. They demonstrated  great teamwork in their ability to work together to strategize exercises in a cohesive and coherent manner for their students. My largest endorsement goes to Jason and Pi both for the immense amount of patience shown to students like myself, repeating the same mistakes on multiple occasions as well as their ability to inspire confidence in their students that seemed to struggle with different techniques throughout the course. Before my eyes they trained eight novice to zero experience riders into road ready motorcyclists in 2 days. My only previous experience was from being on a dirt bike a handful of times as a 12yo adolescent more than 30 years ago. I could not have imagined a better learning environment. The entire experience was superb mix of safety and fun. P. s. I'm worried i am most likely misspelling the name of Pi.. please let me know so i can edit this post accordingly.

Positive experience: First of all, I didn't pass. The course has great building blocks that help you advance to new exercises. Jason and Mark were knowledgeable instructors- great personal road experience tips, patient with the students, and directed the course well. If you get them as instructors you'll be in good hands. Taking the course was still a good decision on my behalf to due to the skills I gained. Only thing I'd change: the bike I used had too much free play in the throttle (could roll it back half an inch when they should only have 3mm) that threw me off consistently unlike my bike at home. I can't change the results of the test, but I think I'll look for a course/test where I can bring my own bike.

PowerRide University
PowerRide University

Hi Rebekah,
Thank you for sharing your experience with us — and for the honest and constructive feedback. While we’re sorry to hear you didn’t pass this time, we truly appreciate your positive attitude and are so glad to hear you still found value in the course and the skills you gained.

Jason and Mark will be happy to hear your kind words — they’re both dedicated instructors who care deeply about helping every rider grow, and it sounds like they left a great impression!

We also appreciate your note about the throttle play on the training bike. Your input helps us ensure we’re providing the best equipment possible for all students, and we’ll absolutely take a closer look at that.

Even though things didn’t go as planned this time, your determination and willingness to learn will absolutely take you far. We wish you the best of luck moving forward — and if you ever want to give it another shot with us or have questions about bringing your own bike, don’t hesitate to reach out. We do offer the Basic Rider Level 2 Course at select locations.

Fantastic experience: I went into this class with 0 motorcycle riding experience and I can truly say after taking this class that I’m confident in my skills on the road. Mark and Neil both did an absolute amazing job helping each and every one of us whenever we weren’t understanding something. I would recommend this class to anyone who has never rode before or even if you have rode Mark and Neil both have the knowledge to help you strength your skills. 10/10

Howard, We are so glad to hear your enjoyed the course. We have worked hard to select coaches that work with students. We believe a positive experience is just as important as the training we provide. Thank you for taking the time to provide the positive feedback. I will make sure to share with the coaches.

Negative experience: Please don't be fooled with their false advertisement. This Isn't a class to teach you basic riding this is a class to review your already knowledge of basic riding. People have come in to "learn" lose 400 just to get sent home because even though they claim to teach you they won't. If your whole class has it then its not a big deal for you to take some time for the 1 student in class that needs alittle more guidance i wouldnt have minded and i doubt the others wouldve. I would be extremely mad if that was me. Do yourself a favor if you don't have experience save your 400 and learn on your own. Had i have known this is how they did people i wouldn't have even supported the business. Edit for clarification for owner: I passed and I learned just fine on my own as most people in the class had. Like you said a BETTER rider not a new rider. But no I will not be supporting this business anymore than the 1 time. Thanks

PowerRide University
PowerRide University

Katelenn, Wow, I am really sorry that you feel we are doing false advertising. Our program is a Nationally recognized curriculum from the Motorcycle Safety Foundation and it is the only curriculum allowed in the state of Virginia. The curriculum is very regimented and must be followed exactly how written. The coaches are trained not to deviate. On occasion students that are not able to keep up with the class must be dismissed for their safety and the safety of others. About 10-15% of students need some additional time or one on one training to complete the course. However, the majority of students are able to successfully complete the course. The state visits our sites regularly to perform a quality insurance inspection to make sure that we are following the program as written. We really are not allowed to make special accommodations for individual students. We strongly suggest that you do not try and learn on your own. The curriculum teaches some very important fundamentals that will ultimately make you a better rider. We wish you all of the best in your motorcycling journey and if we can be of any assistance please do not hesitate to contact the office and speak with Angel. We realize that each student has individual needs.

Positive experience: So i was dropped from the course and issued a yellow ticket. I didnt feel comfortable being taught with a group it was my first time ever riding i didnt really like having to be put in the same riding timeline as other people who have ridden before.. i never got a real feel for the bike because they were thinking of the whole class and i had to keep up with everyone else or be dropped... i never got to ride my own ride and actually enjoy the activity and relax into it because of the pressure to keep up with everyone.. I dont learn that way. I would have preffered exiting the range and being by myself and figuring out what the do alone instead of constantly having to stop, start, get on, get off; do this exercise now do this one.. with no real time for complete novices to really get the hang of it with out pressure. Im kinda dissapointed and It really upset my experience .. the team were great people and the instructors as well its just not what i paid for, the whole point of a basic rider course. I thought there would be multiple instructors so everyone got theyre own coach.. so the student had the best measure of success possible. I felt confident going in but by the time i was 30 mins on the bike all the instructions and the pressure to keep up, really just took away the joy of what I thought riding was all about. I never dropped the bike, I spoke to my brother about the experience and he said his first time it took him a few days... he also dropped the bike..At the end of the day the fault is mine and mine alone and i think the instructors didnt have the time to one on one coach me to the level that i needed so i was on par with everyone else, they had a group to teach and I couldnt keep up. But they were both great guys, All in all .y highest recommendation.. If you are completely new to motorcycles and are not a natural talent, DO NOT TAKE THE Course. It is not for you to learn at your own pace . There is a timeline for the exercises and if you slow the group down, you will be dropped. FIND a cheap bike , watch the basics for free on youtube. Get completly comfortable. Then go take this course and you will pass.. Do not go in there without ever riding before. Unless you are natural talent. To be honest im confident ida been fine BY myself so thats what im going to do now.. Will update on whether i get my license . My way.. everyone is different.. this just wasnt for me.. peace and love everyone. RIDE YOUR OWN RIDE AND ALL THE GEAR ALL THE TIME ;)

Duncan, We appreciate your review and we are sorry if you misunderstood the class format. We use the Nationally accredited Motorcycle Safety Foundation curriculum that is approved by the state of Virginia. We are required to follow this format and I can say that it was developed for beginners. However, like you said many people have different learning styles and this was created for the majority. I would strongly suggest that you consider looking into some private lessons with a professional. Unfortunately, we do not offer private lessons at this time. One of the best suggestions that we give students prior to class is go ride a bicycle. This will build your confidence and better prepare yourself for a successful class. We wish you all of the best on your motorcycle journey but please be safe and continue with professional training. It really does set the groundwork for you to be a better rider.

Fantastic experience: David and Sean were incredible riding coaches. I went from zero experience to feeling very comfortable (and passing the VA licensing test) in their two-day course. I highly recommend any rider take this course. Great program and great riding coaches. Classes are small which help facilitate one-on-one coaching.

Fantastic experience: I took the 3 wheel class in May. Phil was very informative and brought a tremendous amount of energy and enthusiasm to the class. You could definitely tell he loves to ride, it's not just a side job. Our class consisted of beginners, experts and everyone in-between. All questions were answered and explanations in detail were given if needed. I definitely recommend this class. And thanks again to Phil.

Fantastic experience: I have to first state that Powerride is a side hustle for me as I work as a Powerride two wheel and three wheel rider coach and have been for about 18 months. However, PowerRide does operate nine ranges so you have a number of training locations to choose from. Staff are well trained and make every effort to ensure a safe training environment. You won't find a better source for motorcycle training in Virginia.

Negative experience: This class was not as expected. If you are a new/first time rider I don't recommend it. You will be constantly threatened with failing, yelled at like you're a kid as if they are paying you. At the start the 1st day 30 minutes of threats 5 min of touch and feel the bike and next ride like a pro or you will fail. Oh and if you want constant reminders that you will probably die or injure yourself severely then try this class. I have never paid my money for someone to set me up for failure before. First time for everything. They must get paid to fail people. One guy dropped the motorcycle and which was supposed to be an automatic fail. I guess that only applies to certain people/ethnicity. I was told if I was you I would leave because were going to fail you. When I stayed anyway the sabotage continued. My request for a phone call from corporate has been ignored.

PowerRide University
PowerRide University

We are sorry to hear you found the class challenging. Our coaches are not yelling at the student but unfortunately they do need to yell to be heard over the motorcycle engine noise and through the helmet. It is important for safety to get the students immediate attention. We are also sorry that you felt we were threatening you. We have found it is best to provide the student with very clear expectations. Again, this process is for the safety of you and the other students in the class. Learning to ride a motorcycle for some can be difficult at first. Our first priority must be to provide all of our students with the opportunity to safely learn to ride a motorcycle. Students must be dismissed if the coach feels they are a danger to themselves or other students. We understand that this is difficult in a group setting but it must be done. Our goal is to successfully train students of all levels. Almost all of our students who do not pass on the first try graduate from the 2nd class after a short one on one private lesson with one of our coaches. We apologize that you were embarrassed and you feel that you lost your money. However, we will never just pass a student that we do not feel is ready. The fundamentals that we teach you in the basic riding class prepare you for a lifetime of riding safely. If you would like to work with us one on one and try again please feel free to contact us. 207-573-7433

Fantastic experience: Very good experience! I’m glad that I took this class! Mr. Hank and Mr. Steve are very knowledgeable about everything that you’ll learn in this course. They will push your skills and knowledge for you to be better but don’t let it intimidate you, while you’re in the range but take it as a learning experience and pay attention to every detail! Overall I had fun and learned a lot. Appreciate again PowerRide University!
