The California Motorcyclist Safety Program (CMSP) Motorcyclist Training Course (MTC) is designed for the novice rider with no (or limited) street riding experience and is required for those under 21 years old. This course includes both 5-hours of classroom and 10-hours on-cycle instruction. You will learn fundamental skills required to operate the motorcycle and progress to street riding skills and strategies. Upon successful completion you will earn a DMV skills test waiver (DL389).
Topics covered include fear, understanding motorcycle controls, how motorcycles turn, proper cornering strategies and emergency accident avoidance skills. Motorcycles and helmets are provided in this course.

Fantastic experience: Amazing experience the instructors are so nice and welcoming. It is a bit hard if you don't have experience but just have fun and accept their teaching. Whatever they tell you just do it don't fight it on your head. I passed with a perfect score today felt great.
Negative experience: First, I did not pass my final road test but not for the lack of great training and do plan to retest. If you are a senior rider looking to get back to riding I would not recommend. Each day is 10 hours minimum. At least 5 of these are on the course. This is after 5 hours each day of classroom. I am a 60plus year old rider who drives a 150 Vespa. All bikes require you to shift which I had no issue with. However, the bike I was given was the largest in terms of overall size. Most of my classmates were exhausted (mentally and physically) by the second day. The ride test began around 5 on the last day. By then, my strength was exhausted and balance challenged at low speeded. I recognize that a motorcycle license approves you to drive any motorcycle. If you are an older rider looking to learn on what you will drive I do not recommend this course. Younger riders wishing to ride larger bikes this could be great. I do think the final road test on the final day is also difficult physically and mentally. The course is held in Sa Marcos so hot weather is a factor.
Fantastic experience: Just finished my beginner CMSP course with Twisted Throttle and I absolutely loved it. Sav and Joshua were the main instructors I had and they both were excellent. Of course they were very knowledgeable but above all else, they were approachable and professional. I genuinely felt their passion for not just riding but instructing and the stoke became contagious from day one. I know I'm a better rider now having had these guys in my corner early on.
Positive experience: I am giving (3) stars because the course is not bad, however just some advice to future students. I was told if you had no experience that this would be a beginner friendly course, however now I would advise If you have absolutely 0 experience on a motorcycle I would not recommend this course as your first time handling a motorcycle. I would practice for awhile and get the hang of it. The instructors have limited time and have to work through multiple exercises, if you aren’t getting the hang of it and stalling, not maintaining a fast enough speed, etc they will drop you without hesitation, further there are some great instructors and some impatient ones. There was one instructor in particular who was putting much unneeded pressure on beginners. This pressure does not create a safe setting for a beginner to practice. I witnessed one student brake too suddenly, fall off the bike and injure herself because she wasn’t picking up enough speed for the emergency stop portion and gunned it on her final attempt. Just a courtesy to anyone spending $400 on this course, which is not refundable. I would advise taking practice lessons or just buying a cheap bike to practice on if you have no experience. The course classroom instruction is great. But with the limited time on the field course you may feel rushed and under pressure just to keep up. I’ll say this finally, my time throughout the course some of the instructors had me feeling like this was not for me and had me feel somewhat stupid making mistakes that normal beginners make, I almost put down the idea of owning a motorcycle all together until I just decided to purchase one and practice on my own, I now have my license and ride everyday, you can’t get me off my bike. It’s a passion for me now - which would not have been the case if I let some of the verbal comments endured throughout this course get to me.
Fantastic experience: Overall my experience was great , instructors were very informative, even though I have been riding a motorcycle for 8 years I learned a lot of skills in the course , I feel even more confident about my riding skills now ! Thanks

Fantastic experience: My son and I just finished the Motorcycle Safety Course at Twysted Throttle. I rode years ago and wanted a refresher as I know the skills they teach save cyclist's lives, and my son wants to start riding. Both of us recommend the class wholeheartedly and feel we learned valuable information and riding skills during the class. Johnny and Raoul carried the classroom sessions and kept things interesting as we covered topics such as traction and riding over objects. Sav, Keo and Austin were fabulous during the range sessions where we actually got to ride motorcycles provided by Twysted Throttle and learn basic riding and safety techniques. Aside from having fun riding, Sav, Keo and Austin made sure to teach us the importance of lean angles, proper brake handling, slow speed turns and swerving. Most impressively, they often did it while we rode past at 15 miles per hour. My son and I appreciated the clear instructions and were able to apply the suggestions right there during the training. We'll be signing up for the intermediate class to continue our training with Sav and crew soon!

Fantastic experience: Taking the MTC course is a great investment! I had never ridden a motorcycle before and the instructors make sure you learn everything in the classroom and can apply it on the range. It is a lot to learn in two days and it can feel rushed but you can ask questions and you can watch the other riders to pick up on things they do right. I unfortunately did not pass the riding test because I overthink but I was able to take private lessons with Sav who was one of my instructors and she was able to help me be confident and improve on all the things like quick stops with the same bike I used for the range portion. The test consists of 5 exercises, if you are not riding at an appropriate speed, you will be asked to repeat the exercise on more time. Dropping the bike during a test maneuver is an automatic fail but if you apply everything you learned in class you should be successful and if not, taking the private lessons is worth it!!! You can show up early on the day you retest to get extra practice if space is available so it is recommended you show up early. The instructors on 7/27, the day of my retest were also welcoming and helpful and I was able to retest on the same bike that I had been using for the course and private lessons, everyone there is passionate about what they do and want to help you pass!

Fantastic experience: Took me from almost 0 knowledge to being a careful but competent beginner rider in just a weekend! Stepwise supportive training with lots of repetition on the range was very effective. Bikes and helmets were in good shape. Very thorough instruction. Fantastic experience: I just completed their two day intensive class and passed, even though I had (basically) never touched a motorcycle before the first day of riding. Huge shout-out to the instructors (especially Piper and Charlie on the riding range) who are tough but caring about your safety during the class and afterwards. For future riders: be EARLY (on time is late!), pay attention, and wear the proper attire. You are in good hands!

Fantastic experience: Nothing but great things. The class room was neat and student ready. Snack and waters were provided both in class and on the riding range a nice surprise. Piper and Savv (cyber fist bumps to you) are long time riders and vey knowledgeable and patient. They both made your safety and others safety number one and still kept it a fun environment to learn. You will learn important fundamentals for safe riding, the importance of learning your bike, and what do to when your out on the road. As the only female in my class I was put at ease by Savv and Piper and they gave me that boot that I needed to feel confidant. If you are looking for a safety course to feel more confidant or just brush off some cobwebs come sign up for the Twysted Throttle Safe Course. Negative experience: It’s not the instructors’ fault because they have too many students and not good enough pay, but I now have a permanent stress injury to the tendon in my right wrist and ring finger as an unnecessary result of the training. It’s called “trigger finger” and it’s devastating if you use a computer for a living. DO NOT ride their trainer motorcycles that have lowered handlebars if you are a new student. (The instructors call the motorcycle I rode, “Wally.”) I’ll spare the details here, mostly because I’m sure nothing productive for my injury and the costs thereof will done, but if you’re going to take training, do NOT rely on any of their instructors to protect you from injuries and please be very aware of pressure on your wrists while you’re learning. Again, they aren’t doctors and aren’t paid equal to the value they are producing, but just protect yourself and don’t hesitate to demand a different bike if your wrists are hurting.

All of our instructors are certified by the State of California and trained to prioritize safety, monitor for signs of discomfort, and encourage open communication throughout the course. That said, every rider’s body responds differently to the training environment, and your feedback about wrist strain and handlebar positioning is taken seriously.
We encourage all students to speak up immediately if they feel any physical discomfort so we can make necessary adjustments, including switching bikes when possible. Your experience is a valuable reminder for us to continue reinforcing that message during every class.

Fantastic experience: Outstanding training! My wife is new to riding and the class taught her (in the classroom and on the range) great fundamentals to build on - plus she passed her tests. And though I have my license and tens of thousands of miles of riding experience, I took the class with her and it made me a better rider. The instructors, Jeremy and Mark in the classroom, as well as Sav (sp?) and Piper on the range were exceptionally well qualified, engaged, entertaining and supportive. You won't find a better experience than with Twisted Throttle.

Fantastic experience: I recently took one of their classes. I am an unusual case where I have been riding since the late 80’s and took a hiatus in mid 2000. Moved to Cali and decided to start riding again thanks to Suzuki making one of the best Hayabusa’s in white that I had to have. I was taught by Dave, Rip and Earnesto. In 30+ years of riding, on and off, I never had any formal training really. Thier class was fantastic. Even with 30 years of operating a bike it made me realize how much I overlook and never really understood. I would recommend this to any new rider without hesitation, however, I would also recommend to older folks who have been riding and never had formal training. It was very well setup, very well executed and I appreciate the time and attitude of the instructors. I would highly recommend this for any rider of any experience.

Fantastic experience: I would highly recommend this class for beginner riders and those who have not ridden and those who want to start up again. The classroom teacher knew the material and taught it well with enthusiasm. He was eager to teach and answered any and all questions. Out on the track the 2 instructors were patient and would help out with out with advise without being condescending at all. They were careful to go over all operating controls of the motorcycle. Many aspects of motorcycling driving technics were taught . They were there always constant coaching hints for better operation along with praise when done correctly.

Negative experience: I am very disappointed with this establishment! I was not allowed into the range due to the fact that I was a few minutes late in finding their own parking lot... although they signed up a week ago, without any warning they postponed the training to the next WEEK and simply apologized, not taking into account that some came from far away. I LOST MONEY, TIME, NERVES AND WAS LEFT WITH NOTHING. I REALLY REGRET THAT I CONTACTED THEM! killed the desire to get on a bike

Our schedule is tightly structured due to state certification requirements, and for safety and fairness to all participants, we’re required to begin on time. Even just a few minutes' delay can mean missing critical safety instructions, which is why we stress punctuality in our confirmation emails and reminders.

Fantastic experience: I cannot say enough about how great my experience was taking this course through this company. If you’re researching for moto classes, please please go through Twysted Throttle! You will NOT be sorry ! Safety is their only priority!, Charlie and Ernesto are so kind, yet serious about teaching the course and rider safety. I went from total intimidation (first time rider) to total confidence. The support I was given, the patience and knowledge while making it fun for everyone is unique, and I also want to add that Ernesto’s training quite possibly saved me from a wreck while I was out practicing on my own in a parking lot! Fantastic experience: Jeremy and Sibeth made classroom so fun, however Charlie is by far the person I learned the most from. She is very firm but her guidance and explanation of why she is trying to teach you something is spot on. I took this course so I could be a better rider. I ride a vespa, once I got over the fact that it's THE SAME thing g, with Charlie's guidance I felt way more comfortable. Would 100 percent recommend for anyone wanting to reinforce the basics and anyone wanting to learn. Charlie forever!

Fantastic experience: Just finished the class today. Jeremey was extremely professional teaching all the rules and safety in the class. Charlie was our riding instructor at the course and have to admit her knowledge experience and professionalism if it’s about all the techniques of safe riding and understanding the physics of the motorcycle. Fantastic experience: I just took the class over the weekend and have nothing but praise for these instructors! Jeremy was amazing in the classroom and made it fun. My training crew was Rip & Charlie and they were amazing, I'm an experienced rider and took this class for the insurance break but walked away with more knowledge than I expected. Fantastic experience: Jermey & rip are really great instructors! Very patient and they just want everyone to be safe and have a good time! I highly recommend this class! It really only teaches the very basics and I know for myself I have a lot more to learn and will hopefully come back tor more advance classes or even private lessons if they offer that !
