Our Alameda site (formerly Califonia Rider Education(CaRE)) is the closest site to the Oakland/Berkeley area and provides the waiver for the riding portion of the DMV's motorcycle licensing test to students that pass, and finish within one week.
Intermediate and Advanced classes have a higher standard for gear. Advanced students must provide their own bike.
If you are not ready to bring your own bike, you can come back as a standby student or take our extra ride time class.
Motorcycles, helmets and gloves are provided in beginning classes. Some insurance companies and motorcycle shops offer discounts to our graduates.

Our comment from DrivingSchools.Directory about BAMT Alameda Range:

BAMT Alameda Range is a well-regarded motorcycle training school located near the USS Hornet, offering fantastic views of the San Francisco peninsula. The school is particularly praised for its professional and knowledgeable instructors, including Eric, Anthony, and Ren, who provide clear instructions and personalized coaching to help both beginners and experienced riders improve their skills.

Positive Aspects:

  • Great for beginners, with a structured course that builds confidence.
  • Friendly and supportive staff, known for their patience and ability to explain complex riding techniques.
  • Brand new bikes for training, providing a good experience for learners.
  • Excellent communication from the team, especially in resolving scheduling issues and assisting with DMV processes.

However, there are some areas for improvement:

  • Strict policies on attendance, with little flexibility regarding lateness and rescheduling.
  • Some reviews mention delays and lack of response when resolving issues related to course certificates and refunds.
  • The organization could improve customer service, as some students felt the interaction was impersonal in stressful situations.

Overall, BAMT Alameda Range provides a solid learning experience for anyone looking to start their motorcycle riding journey, with dedicated instructors and a commitment to safety and skill development.

Fantastic experience: I had a really nice experience taking lessons here. I’d highly recommend this as a beginner wanting to learn to ride motorcycles! I hope to come back with my own bike one day for more lessons.

Fantastic experience: First of all, I would like to point out the amazing proximity to the USS Hornet. So, before or after one of your sessions you get to have amazing views of the San Francisco peninsula with this retired aircraft carrier. Ren and Eric do a fantastic job of observing your riding skills and coaching you through proper operation of a motorcycle. They understand your deficiencies and help you grasp the concepts required to make you a better motorcycle rider. Their organization is top-notch. Their feedback is genuine. The coursework is designed to make you confident on a motorcycle. I went into this class with zero experience on a motorcycle. I left, and passed with a strong desire to learn more Kudos to Eric and Ren!

Fantastic experience: That was a great place to learn how to drive a bike, they teach you everything you need to know such as swearing, lean, position on the lane, everything! I will say is worth it every penny and the instructors were awesome, they understand we are new on this and have a loooot of patiance, I didn't learn their names but it was a latino guy and a old lady, great instructors!

Negative experience: Strict. They say you cannot be late and to be 15 minutes early, 11 AM. ON 6-22-24 registration started at 12: 30 and class was at 1. No apologies offered. Rather rude if you ask me. They promised to be on time the next day, but again we sat for a whole hour under the hot sun. No class, no count.

Fantastic experience: Just finished the beginner rider course. Ren and Kevin were great instructors. Friendly and knowledgeable.

Fantastic experience: The course is good for beginners and for anyone looking at a refresh. A few things to remember- Make sure you complete at least a couple of modules of the online course before you come for the riding sessions, and make sure you have the correct gear, without both of these conditions fulfilled, you won’t be allowed to start the riding class. The team at the office was stellar! I had an issue at the DMV, which this team went waaay out of their way to help- shoutout to Caroline for this! Thanks to their help i managed to get it processed at the DMV without any delay! A really good experience here.

Fantastic experience: Just finished my class today, and I absolutely loved the experience. Coming from a brand new rider with little to no experience riding, the instructors David, John, and Eric were incredibly knowledgeable and very professional with the way they taught the class. I was in the afternoon class, and the morning class ran late both days despite the very threatening emails about "we must be strictly on time arrive 15 minutes early AT THE LATEST". Overall amazing class though. Absolutely a must if you're trying to get a headstart as a new rider.

Fantastic experience: The instructors were knowledgeable and friendly. They did a great job providing individual attention even though it was a full class. The bikes were brand new bmw 310 which I wasn't expecting. I walked away from the course with enough confidence to purchase a bike and get my m1 license.

Fantastic experience: I don’t usually write reviews, but felt like after reading some of these reviews I need to. This course is designed to teach you how to be a safer motorcycle rider. It isn’t designed to pass everyone that comes through so you can get to the DMV asap. I took the class twice because I failed a portion of the skills test the first time. Both times I received valuable information about riding. Eric, Kevin, James and John are great and super knowledgeable. Yes, you have to come early to the class to see if you can get a standby spot if you don’t pass. However, if you don’t want to do that, pay another $350 to secure a new spot. I think it’s awesome that they don’t make you pay to retake it if you failed. You get out what you put in!

Negative experience: The instructors are always an hour late, and the office never picks up phone calls when need of assistance.

Negative experience: **PLEASE SEND ME MY CERTIFICATE ASAP BEFORE I FORGET MY TRAINING.***I took the course April 15 & 16. I liked it despite one of the instructors, however, I still have NOT recieved my course completion certificate. I've emailed BAMT, and despite speaking to an employee on the phone on 5/8 who assured me it was in the mail and she'd look into it, still have not recieved a certificate, leaving me unable to take the written DMV test.

Fantastic experience: My wife and I recently took the beginning riding course at Bay Area Motorcycle Training. We were very impressed by the instructors Eric and John and felt like we went from never having been on a motorcycle to being ready to ride on the road by the end of the course. Keep in mind, there is no guarantee that you will pass the course, and their goal is not necessarily to pass you. The instructors are quite serious and not warm and fuzzy, but this is because you are learning to operate a dangerous machine in traffic. If you follow all of the directions and try as hard as you can, the course is designed to give you the skills to ride safely and pass the test at the end. We are looking forward to returning for the intermediate course once we become more confident riders!

Fantastic experience: I had a blast learning how to ride with the instructors Eric and Anthony who were excellent and super fun to learn from. The course was challenging and the bikes were great to use. It went by so fast and can't wait to start riding!

Fantastic experience: This training was incredibly well designed and fun. The progress you make from start to finish is amazing. It's challenging without being intimidating. Eric and Anthony were fantastic teachers and their experience as both riders and teachers shows - patient, kind yet firm. This class left me so excited to get to the DMV for my endorsement and get back on the bike and practice! I hope to return one day for an Intermediate class. Thank you so much, BAMT!

Fantastic experience: This course was a lot of fun and helps you practice the basic skills of riding. I would definitely recommend this course over just taking the test at the DMV. Even if you know how to ride, this course lets you practice skills that will just make you an overall safer rider. The guys who run it, Anthony, Eric, and Brandon, are friendly and patient. If you show up with the right gear, on time, and follow their instructions you’ll be all set!

Don Pape 3 years ago

Fantastic experience: If you are a beginner, if you have never rode a motorcycle in your life, you need this. I had the experience of a time past when we rode in the back of pickup trucks and just jumped on a bike without a helmet or regard for personal safety so I needed this. It's very important to study the material beforehand and then pay close attention during the class. I kept my eyes on the instructors and they got me through the exercises and helped me to unlearn some very bad habits that I had developed. My advice: just follow their directions and forget what you think you know. READ THE EMAILS! SHOW UP WITH THE RIGHT GEAR! They provide you with helmets and gloves but you can totally bring your own if they meet standards. The instructors were total pros and didn't screw around and they were most happy when you asked them questions and made them explain things. They want to teach you. If you have been wanting to learn to ride, this a great start.

Negative experience: Never got my refund. They cancelled my class and told me for six months that they’re processing my refund. The guy who picks up the phone just says he doesn’t know what finance team is doing.

Fantastic experience: i got covid and they let me go standby for free when i submitted proof of having covid. show up early with proper gear and no issues. I've been practicing what they taught us in a parking lot now that i have my own motorcycle :)

Fantastic experience: I loved this class. Anthony and Eric were great instructors - they were clear about what they needed from us and always asked if we had any questions/needed anything clarified. I felt super comfortable on my bike and by the time we took our evaluation, I felt fully prepared. Just be open minded and willing to learn, ask questions if you don’t understand or are hesitant, and listen carefully.

Steve Vuong 3 years ago

Positive experience: Instructors were not very clear about what needed to be done didn't double check with the person if they understand what they needed to do

Yongguang Qiu 4 years ago

Negative experience: If you fail the driving course, they asked you stand by next time, and there will no spot even you wake up 5 am in the morning and try to get to the class. They just told you, there was no available seats for you. It’s wasting your time and money. It’s funny, the school told you try to be here next time see it there would be a stand by spot again. Please avoid this business!

Fantastic experience: Great refresher for inactive riders to polish up on skills, and perfect for first time riders.

Damian D. 4 years ago

Fantastic experience: Great class. Nice location. Always great to learn new skills or brush up on old ones. Read the bad reviews & they are mostly people showing up late. Also, make sure to have proper gear. Read & follow instruction on the website & you will be good to go.

Bilguun Jargalsaikhan 4 years ago

Fantastic experience: Riding motorcycles is dangerous, which is why they’re so strict. If you’re planning to take this course, you need to have all the right gear or else they’ll send you home. Have proper boots that cover you ankles and wear long pants. The instructors were great in my opinion. They explained everything clearly and taught us important habits to develop and as a new motorcycle rider. Just don’t be anxious when they’re telling you to do something, they’re there to teach you how to ride.

Asahi P 4 years ago

Negative experience: This school is a scam! Highly suggest looking at their yelp reviews with how they've stolen money, acted unprofessionally, wasted attendees time, and don't give out their course completion certificate. In attending another motorcycle school that was actually clear and professional, I realized just how much this business ripped me off.

Ethan Yabut 4 years ago

Fantastic experience: Was a fun experience. Made sure to read the email and come early with the appropriate gear. Sue was a really great instructor. Would recommend.

Nevin Blair 4 years ago

Fantastic experience: The teachers are serious business but for good reason. Riding a motorcycle is no joke. Enjoyed the beginner class over 2 days. Great class.

Ailea M 4 years ago

Negative experience: An absolute joke - extremely unprofessional instructors who thrive on abusing their power to belittle slow learners.

Sara Lyu 4 years ago

Fantastic experience: Reschedule is never an option. As I read so many reviews and combining my personal experience, I realized no matter what the instructor said, RESCHEDULE is never an option! I just don’t get it why they sugarcoated it in the first place. I was told by my instructor that I need more practice as he said I would be rescheduled to a new class, but the truth was I was put to the standby list.

Jerome L. Moore 4 years ago

Fantastic experience: They're very passionate about their job and trying to teach his people how to ride motorcycles I really do appreciate their service

Oleg 4 years ago

Fantastic experience: Great course, the instructors were very knowledgeable and supportive, give lots of useful and direct feedback. Jimmy and Carl in particular were awesome! Now some caveats: - I assume since this is a state regulated class, the schedule is pretty tight. You kinda go from exercise to exercise, on a timer, and you won't get a lot of time to spend on your personal weak points. Which is expected given 1:6 instructor-to-student ratio but still. Two 5-hour days may sound like a lot but it really isn't. - Yes they are very strict on people being late. Again I assume that this is at least partially due to state requirements, they need you to spend X hours in class on the dot. If you're late by 5 minutes you're not going to get in. - Bikes are pretty banged up and most of them are pretty uncomfortable if you're tall. They have a few taller bikes, but you may be out of luck if a bunch of tall people shows up. This all said, still great class and great value for the money. If you can I'd recommend taking additional classes or if you have access to a bike, practicing more on your own.

Negative experience: Absolutely terrible

Nate Talavera 4 years ago

Negative experience: I got there 10 minutes late due to traffic in the Alameda Tunnel and I got kicked out and they won’t reschedule me.I can’t get a refund either they stole my money.

Nathan Talavera 4 years ago

Negative experience: I paid $350 for the whole course, finished the Erider and I was preparing for the riding session. I got there and was already going to sign a waiver then the instructor saw I didn’t have boots on which I get it, it was my mistake so I got kicked out of class. The other instructor said that it was ok and that she will let the office know that I showed up but I couldn’t attend because I was not wearing proper gear and that they will reschedule me. So I left home and the next day I get an email from the course saying “I’m sorry that you missed class but unfortunately we cannot reschedule”. The instructor clearly said WE CAN RESCHEDULE YOU!! If I pay $100 they will put me in a standby to see if there is a spot available. The worst part is I have to show up an hour early to see if they would be space available which I know there won’t be any available, they even said it themselves. So I am not gonna pay $100 for waiting an hour for nothing.Or I can pay another $350 to start over again. HELL NO their crazy for that. I just wished I read the other reviews before I signed up for this.

Negative experience: I agree with everything Maryam said (most recent user below me) . They haven't gotten back to me, full priced was paid and they CAN'T reschedule you. This "standby" procedure is inconvenient and disappointing. You would have to pay the WHOLE amount again to secure you a spot, date and time or 100 to just show up and see if you can get a spot, adults have priorities and can't just show up any day to see whether they can get in. They don't care.

Vincent LoBianco 4 years ago

Fantastic experience: Incredible experience this past weekend. Both Anthony and Eric were phenomenal instructors! Also, the BAMT team has made getting an M1 license experience a great one. I was able to pick up my completion form just a few days after my class!

Maryam F 4 years ago

Negative experience: PLEASE READ BEFORE ATTENDING THIS SCHOOL! This school is very unprofessional and inflexible even under grave circumstances. A family member suffered a heart attack so I am obviously unable to go to the class. I asked to be rescheduled and they only offered to put me as a standby. On top of that you can never get a hold of them when you try to call and they didn't get back to me until the next business day which is too long if they won't answer calls in my opinion. Even now they are saying it will take until Monday for everything to be processed, whatever that means. I wanted to see if I could support a local business but I regret not taking the class at Harley Davidson. Plus their website is very poorly designed. You have to dig deep in the website to find the policy on rescheduling and even then it's not worded clearly. I would steer clear of this school. Update: I finally received email back and they were not kind in the slightest. I clearly understand their policy but people could make exceptions which I was asking for yet they responded to me in a tone that was so condescending. All they literally had to say was unfortunately we still cannot offer rescheduling. Nowhere on the website does it explicitly say NO EXCEPTIONS, which is why I tried my best to get one. It looks like they might have updated their website recently because they now added "even if you have a really good reason". Again this looks like someone rushed and created this website in10 minutes or something. Not professional in the slightest. From the previous reviews I am sure that the instructors are great but if you are unfortunate enough to miss the class due to a real emergency, you will have to deal with invasion of privacy and poor customer service to have the fee waived for stand by. The only person who showed me an ounce of compassion was the receptionist I finally was able to get a hold of. The email correspondence dealt with me as if I was making a horrible event up so I can get out of a stupid class. I guess it's my freaking fault. I should have became psychic so that I would know that my dad would have a heart attack so I could call them a week before and reschedule. AVOID THIS PLACE.

Fantastic experience: Great. Instructor Ricky is really good. I am an experienced rider and was in class with mostly non riders. He did a great job getting them going and even taught me a few things and I've been riding for over 50 years.

Fantastic experience: Great instructor with a lot of knowledge and patience. The course is great if you are brand new to motorcycling or they also have more advanced classes as well.
