Fantastic experience: Even though I didn't catch many worlds they said In english, I could follow up with the instructions that they gave me, was 7 people, 1 gave up and the girls was dropping the motorcycle a lot, so they sent them home in the first day. The following day was the day of the test, and one guy didn't showed up. So the four of us passed, but you have to have good determination to follow up with the instructions and be very attentive, the course was not easy so if you are a strong person that don't let your head down because somebody's screaming at you you should be good to go.

Fantastic experience: I booked without reading many reviews - not the bad ones anyway. So 3 days before my weekend review I dug into them. Wow, there were a lot of reviews about how horrible the trainers were, one in particular. I was actually kind of worried and considered not going. That would've been really stupid. So I will preface this by saying I have been riding dirt bikes and quads and motorcycles since I was able to walk. My drivers license expired while I was out of country and I was forced to retake my drivers and motorcycle tests. Here are my bullet points for reviewing this school. I am a 45 year old female. a) there was nothing inappropriate about the training unless you are a sheltered person. In the motorcycle community there are a lot of "good old boys" and this is part of life. If you don't like a little straight dirt without having things sugar coated.....then this isn't the school for you. Ian is very much himself and if you let go of your ego and just listen, you'll be fine. If you don't like swear words...go somewhere else. b) this is 100% beginner training c) if you have never ridden a motorcycle before or at least a quad, you will be nervous, scared, feel pressure etc...and you NEVER leave a closed parking lot. Sit on a bike or two or take a friends dirt bike out before you come. Motorcycles are not for everyone and riding around sitting on an engine is a responsibility. d) if you are scared or don't follow instructions you will fail. 3 of the 8 of us did not pass. And 2 out of the 5 (myself included) were experienced riders. Skills fade - you need to check your ego and take it like you're a beginner again. e) do not do this between July and September. My regret is that I did and I had heat stroke from day 1. The heat is no joke, it plays a serious role in your ability to think and act and react - and learn. f) there is no bathroom...if you're a lady or suffer with diarrhea, be prepared and go before you arrive. The breaks are short and meant for hydration only.....and there is a gas station 1/2 a block away for emergencies. Bring snacks and water and electrolytes. g) this is a family business, these people are dedicated to training you up right whether you like the delivery or not. Marshall and Ian have their own styles and you will benefit from both so leave your ego at the door and go to learn or refresh and become a safer rider. The people that failed, needed to fail. They were given a lot of chances and still were too scared/confused about basic riding to be able to allow them out on the road. We didn't even make it out of 2nd gear. We didn't go into traffic. For the record these people were stalling constantly, crashing, putting feet down on the ground, being shaky, scared to go faster than 10mph.....no one was unfairly judged and I'm glad that those who need more training were not given the privilege of being allowed out on the roads where they'd surely get themselves killed. Be honest about your abilities and maybe take some training on basic riding before you take your course if you're super super new to it.

Fantastic experience: Marshall and Ian were great instructors. They were always able to give great feedback on things that could be improved. Sometimes harsh feedback but only because they care.

Fantastic experience: Marshall and Ian were great instructors. If you don’t have thick skin and can’t take the consecutive criticism that has sassiness to it, this isn’t the place you want to get your course done at. Marshall and Ian have a lot of experience so they won’t sugar coat it when you mess up, but it’s just because they genuinely want you to be a safe rider and not die or get injured when you’re actually ready for the road. I was the only female in my group this weekend and I completed my course successfully and I can’t wait to get on a bike again and get more practice in.

Fantastic experience: Man I don’t know what that Chris guy was talking about in the other review from to years ago but I went here around that time and man these guys are not only cool but they were helpful, they it seemed like they wanted us to pass (even tho they say they didn’t care because it’s up to us if we want to pass) but they were cool coaches and they weren’t rude they just don’t sugar code nothing, that told us how things were in black and blue. If you want to have a good chance of getting your motorcycle endorsement I would definitely recommend this place. I RIDE A HARLEY!

Fantastic experience: I recently completed the MSF course at Southwest Motorcycle Training. This Course is very well-organized & included a great deal of practical information & actual riding experience. The instructors, Marshall & Mike, were extremely competent & patient, provide clear instruction, in a very supportive environment, for improving riding skills & maximizing safety. This course is indispensable for a beginner rider, but even benificial for an experienced rider. It’s obvious the instructors have a great deal of experience both riding & teaching, and generouly shared their wisdom. This was a great course & I certainly would recommend it.

Fantastic experience: Our instructor Ian was a blast to have. Great teacher. He’ll poke fun at you while correcting your mistakes but it’s all in good fun to lighten the mood. I couldn’t see myself taking another course elsewhere in San Antonio

Fantastic experience: Attention all riders. This is a course that has to be done every few years. Even if you consider yourself expert level. I have been riding motorcycles for more than 35 years, and it is the second time I have taken the course. Apart from being a necessary requirement for your license, it helps you correct bad habits that you do over time. 100% recommended. The instructors are very professional. If you are one of those people who gets offended quickly, then look for another course. They tell you the defects you may have without any delicacy. As it should be. AAA+

Negative experience: This place is absolute garbage. Condescending instructors. Unprofessional. These idiots caused me to get Injured. Please please look elsewhere. I should have known when I arrived and how the guy was talking to me as if I was one of his drinking buddies. These guys were supposed to be long gone. I don't know how this place is still around. How is this place still open? I guess karma takes time to work.

Ahmed Almoola 3 years ago

Fantastic experience: The training worth every penny I paid. I highly recommend this place. Its a family owned and they care about you learning the materials. Marshal is the nicest guy you will meet. Him and Ian will point out to you your mistakes so you are aware and keep trying to fix your mistakes. There were couple students who have never ride a motorcycle before and they were able to handle the bike and maneuver good by the end of the training.

Fantastic experience: If you have thin skin and can't take honest feedback with a twist of sarcasm, this ain't the place for you. If you want to learn how to ride SAFELY from a couple of guys who genuinely care about making you a good, safe rider, then sign up, show up, and learn. Thanks Ian and Marshall!

Fantastic experience: Great place to learn not only the basics of riding, but the seriousness of riding a motorcycle and the risks involved. I failed my first attempt NOT because they didn't instruct properly or help me enough or whatever, but because I didn't properly execute what was being taught. (I tried to blame the bike at first because it made me feel better but the truth was I wasn't doing the basics properly and that showed after switching bikes and having the same issues). After a two hour session with Ian, I was able to get some bad habits taken care of and passed on my second attempt this weekend with no points deducted. If you are serious about riding this is the place to get started because they will prepare you for SAFE riding and they're just cool dudes you can learn alot from.

Fantastic experience: Ian and Marshall were extremely knowledgeable and instructive. They took the training very seriously but were also very friendly and entertaining. I came into it expecting it to be very boring and generic and it was anything but. I learned so much more than I thought I would and feel like a much more capable rider now. As far as some of the 1 star reviews go I think they are a gross misrepresentation of their teaching style and overall experience. Ian pushes you to do better and while he may be a little rough around the edges he truly cares about his students and their success. I really enjoyed his “poke-fun” attitude, I felt that it all came from a place of constructive criticism, it never seemed inappropriate or unfair, and made me take his instruction seriously while also having a good laugh. This is a serious sport and understand that If you don’t take it seriously it can be extremely dangerous, but it’s also about having fun. I feel their overall attitude represented this very well- I learned a TON, and had a lot of fun. Would HIGHLY recommend to anyone wanting to refine their motor skills as well as anyone who needs it for their license. Thank you so much Ian and Marshall! Great job guys don’t change a thing!!

Matthew Daggett 3 years ago

Negative experience: Do not recommend taking this course. The courses were un professional, the main instructor is vague and condescending if you ask questions. If you like feeling like you are in boot camp this is the place for you! The riding course which is a parking lot is very worn with faded markings everywhere making instructions difficult. The bikes had bent controls, worn tires, stalling issues. If for any reason they don’t like something they will make sure to fail you which is made very clear at the start “you already paid so we don’t care if anything happens cause you won’t get your money back” is the motto of this business. For $220 take the course somewhere else that upkeeps their business.

Fantastic experience: So the operations is kind of sketchy but the knowledge is there. The instructor is extremely smart on motorcycle and helpful for everyone who want to learn instead of those who think they know everything.

G Z 3 years ago

Fantastic experience: Very good place to get comprehensive training for riding a motorcycle. Marshall and Ian are knowledgeable and responsible. You could learn a lot after the two-day course. Will need to get more engaged in the classroom session. Ian will mark the times that you speak and/or read lecture materials. A very good experience and highly recommended. They are cheaper than other schools and you could get your training sooner.

Boris Blechacz 3 years ago

Fantastic experience: I just took my MSF basic rider course here at SMT. I had zero experience riding motorcycles. Our instructors, Ian and Darren, were outstanding. Their main focus is safety and they exceptionally well demonstrated the limitations, risks and dangers of motorcycle riding. At the same time, they provide one with the tools to manage these risks. The pace of the practical part of the class is fairly high pace but manageable. I had no prior experience riding a motorcycle but was able throughout the class to ride a bike and complete the exercise following their detailed instructions. I highly recommend this course to anybody who wants to get into riding motorcycles or refresh their skills. Thank you, Ian and Darren!

Positive experience: Have to say these people care about your training and take it very serious. Obviously they should it's a huge responsibility to let you put that M on your license. If you're not serious do your self a favor and contemplate if this is the sport your really want to pursue. Hella good training.

Fantastic experience: So I took this course a couple months back with Ian and marshal and I never left a review. During this time, and as my riding has progressed, I’ve learned to appreciate both of the instructors - so much that I came back to leave this review. At the time I completed the course I was completely satisfied with the class. If you’re looking for a place to take this course I recommend this place, I’m glad this is where I went. 5/5

Fantastic experience: Ian and Marshall were absolutely phenomenal coaches! I feel blessed to have had my training with them. They helped me find 'The Rider' in me and I now feel much more confident in my ability to develop my skills further. Understand, you need to be proactive in developing your inner Ruder, these guys will provide great guidance to help you on that journey!

Fantastic experience: Just completed the course and earned my motorcycle license. I highly recommend this course to anyone that is interested. One small note: I would check your ego at the door and understand your role as a student. You will receive positive and negative feedback. It may hurt your feelings for a little while, but it could be what saves your life later on.

Noah K 4 years ago

Fantastic experience: Exceptional instructors who’s number one priority is teaching students to be safe riders and encourage them to have fun as well. I’ve read the one star reviews and disagree with them saying that the instructors are unprofessional or mean. If you don’t have thick skin for constructive criticism then you probably shouldn’t be operating any vehicle. I am a new rider and learned a lot more than expected in a two day course. They have a few Kawasaki Z125s, a Honda Rebel 300, a Suzuki cruiser, and a Kawasaki Eliminator to learn on and the bikes are well maintained and look surprisingly fresh for MSF bikes beside for a few paint scrapes being MSF bikes. I highly recommend this school and the instructors for any new rider or experienced rider who’s been off a motorcycle in awhile.

Kumar Raman 4 years ago

Negative experience: Instructor was rude, disrespectful and was making fun of all the people in the class and during range all the time. Since I knew how to ride, I was able to get by. Instructions weren’t easy to follow. I actually wanted to go to the school near rolling oaks mall but they did not have a spot for me, had to wait for a month and thought what difference a school would make. I was wrong and in hindsight, I should have waited and should have signed up at rolling oaks mall. I was feeling really bad for some people in my team who did not have any prior knowledge and experience especially the way they were treated and weren’t given lighter bikes to learn. Teaching is an art and you will not get it here.

Fantastic experience: I had a great time. Finished the class this afternoon. Marshall is a sweetheart and reminds you to have confidence in your abilities when you start to feel discouraged. Ian is straightforward and to the point. He'll tell you what you need to do and then demonstrate it for you. They give you ample time and opportunity to correct your mistakes and provide feedback to help you get there. When you show up, read the instructions on the TV. Don't look at the ground when you're learning to ride because no matter how uncomfortable it may feel, it feels a whole lot better than hitting the ground. When learning the turns, ESPECIALLY the U turns, turn your head. Ill be working on that for the next few weeks with my new bike. You'll have a blast. Ian's got a great sense of humor and Marshall is an amazing instructor!

Luis Vasquez 4 years ago

Fantastic experience: Completed my course about a week ago and it went well, wouldn't say great because I'm a beginner rider and this course was quite challenging.. .so I'm truly humble considering I passed. I still got a lot of practice to do and SMT pinpointed areas I need improvement on, which I totally agree on . .but the class was great and had lots of fun overall! ! I would say, " know your basics before even trying to take this course!" Thanks Ian and Marshall!

Chuck 713 4 years ago

Negative experience: This place doesn't even deserve a 1 star rating. Ian has got to be the worst teacher ever, the guy has no patience and he spends the entire class insulting everyone for rating themselves too high on the self assessment that's given at the beginning of the 1st day.

Chris O 4 years ago

Negative experience: I would not recommend taking the motorcycle safety course at this school. I already have my motorcycle endorsement and was only taking this course to get comfortable with being on a motorcycle again, after not having been on one in a few years. I didn't even bother going back for the 2nd day, it was that bad. If you really want to get something out of a safety course, don't go here. There's 2 instructors, Marshall and Ian. Marshall is good, he gives positive coaching and easy to follow instructions. Ian on the other hand is a terrible instructor. He gives hard to follow instructions and he spends most of the class talking down to students and making fun of them. As one rider was practice going through curves, Ian was making fun of him because he wasn't performing well. Ian also made weird sexual jokes in the class room which were inappropriate for a setting where the focus is supposed to be on learning about motorcycle safety. When comparing my experience here with that of the motorcycle safety course I took years ago at a different school, I can confidently say I would never recommend this place to anyone I care about.

Fantastic experience: Ian and Marshall did a great job explaining everything, keeping everyone safe and coaching us on proper techniques. I had never been on a motorcycle prior to this class and they were patient and firm with the coaching which I appreciated. Study the online materials before showing up to class and pay attention to everything Ian says, great sense of humor also here :). Also 'this is your class' make the most of it and learn from these experts, ask questions in class and ask for feedback on the range about how to improve. They are really helpful here, I would definitely recommend this class to anyone who wants to get into riding.

Positive experience: I took the riders course back in May. I didn't submit a review because I did not have any other school to compare them to. When I went through the course through Southwest Motorcycle, it didn't seem to go at a slow pace. It seemed geared more towards experienced riders. I learned a few things but felt more frustrated than anything. One of the reviews mentioned the instructor flapping his arms like a chicken. He did that to me. Their motorcycles are poorly maintained. I had trouble keeping mine on and the instructor that got on mine to demonstrate also had the same problem on my bike. I failed the course and the instructor offered hourly one on one training at $50 an hour if I remember correctly. He said people that do not do the one on one usually end with the same result at the end of the course. And then of course i would have to pay the fee again to take the course. I ended up not going back to them. I signed up for the Harley Davidson (Cowboys) rider course. I spoke with Reno at HD. He told me about their Jumpstart. That gave me an opportunity to actually get on a motorcycle (it's on a stand that they have set up at the HD dealership) to practice before my actual class. The instructor, Pete, for my course took the course step by step so that I actually learned and felt confident about riding. Their motorcycles are well maintained. And if you fail, they will let you go back and redo the course at no charge. If I could do it all over again, I would have signed up with HD right from the start.

Charles Fears 5 years ago

Fantastic experience: Ian and Marshall offer multiple opportunities for practice. They also give demonstrations after verbal instruction to support learning and provide clarity. It's a challenging course, but you'll get through it if you follow instruction and are willing to accept critical feedback for your own skill improvement and safety.

Dominique 5 years ago

Fantastic experience: Ian and Marshall were great trainers. They were both very informative and helpful. When I didn't understand something they didn't hesitate to repeat the information and make sure I understood. Ian did tell it like it was but i took that as an encouragement to do better. I'll definitely recommend them!

Negative experience: This place is not for beginner riders. I would only recommend SW Motorcycle Training for experienced riders who just needing the MSF class to stay legal. I read the reviews beforehand and thought the people who reviewed poorly just couldn’t handle the jokes and no bs attitude from an instructor, but I was wrong. No doubt Ian is knowledgeable and experienced, but he also teaches the course like he's trying to thin the herd. He moves fast with very little instruction which made the experienced riders happy. I didn't return for day 2 because on day 1 I felt too pressured to move faster and push the safety limits of every exercise. I ended up at a H-D dealer rider academy a month later, actually enjoyed the class, had no problems, and left with a healthy sense of precaution but also confident in my ability to ride a motorcycle. If I felt unsteady in an exercise, H-D instructors offered advice before my next attempt. In contrast, Ian would flap his arms like a chicken during exercises. After talking to other riders, they agreed that a MSF course like the one I experienced at SWMT is not for beginners. Safety should be the top priority.

Paul Fox 5 years ago

Positive experience: Took the basic rider course over the weekend. I needed to take the course to receive my license endorsement. I went into the course with about 6 months of prior experience. The instructor Ian had a very odd way of instructing the class but after a while, I understood his way of thinking. He uses the curriculum while making the students do most of the reading, & figuring out the right answers by asking questions constantly. On the course there is a lot of directions to follow. I noticed that the students who didnt listen to direction had the hardest time. I gave 4 out of 5 stars only because I wouldnt recommend this class for everyone. Honestly if you cant take a little constructive criticism, got thin skin, or cant take a light joke. Find another course. Marshall was very nice. Ian was very blunt and to the point but made you think.

Rosanne Longoria 5 years ago

Negative experience: I went into this class as a 100% newbie. I would highly recommend NOT signing up with these instructors if you are a newbie and/or especially not female. They are not good teachers for someone who is new to a motorcycle, however if you have had practice beforehand, and know the basics of how to ride, then these teachers may be for you. I left the class early on the 2nd day, because I had had enough verbal abuse. Seriously, these teachers have absolutely no patience or desire to coach anyone without experience, which is whom this course was suppose to be geared towards. I am still extremely excited to go elsewhere, short my 225$, because I know that I want to do this bad enough, but with better instructors. Also, there are no bathrooms.

William Seay 5 years ago

Positive experience: I specifically waited several weeks after the course to rate the service provided. Some of the negative reviews may be justified based on the personalities of those who took the course. But I can say that Ian and Marshall who trained me over that weekend taught in a manner that I was able to understand and helped me Grasp the gravity of owning a motorcycle in city of San Antonio. Honestly if you want to be coddled and simply pay your money and be guaranteed that you will pass then this course isn’t for you.

Stay cool. p.S that look where u wanna go really works...

Fantastic experience: Great experience, ian and Marshall were absolutely the best and I recommend them

Jarrod Rodriguez 6 years ago

Fantastic experience: I took this class with zero experience of any kind riding motorcycles. Ian and Marshall were very enthusiastic and patient with the class, which had several newbies. They explain things very well and use a common-sense approach to teaching. Some of the reviews on here mention "unprofessional" attitudes/speech and a lack of caring about new riders and I couldn't disagree more. Riding is supposed to be a fun activity and the emphasis they put on safety is definitely there while still cracking jokes and having a good time. I was definitely a weak link in some of the exercises and the two of them definitely took their time to show me my mistakes, taught me how to fix them, and provided excellent follow-up with encouragement or more coaching. Safety is number one in this course and if you go in ready to learn and listen then you'll have a fun, educational time that will better prepare you for actually getting out there. Keep up the good work gentlemen.

Jean Paul Meyer 6 years ago

Negative experience: Called and tried to sign up for their course. Guy on the phone had a terrible attitude, said I'd receive confirmation, with a link and coupon for e course through text. Calls me back, saying my card didn't go through. Went through the hassle of calling USAA for them to tell me he put the expiration date wrong. I call back and tell him, he confirms I gave him the right info, then says he'll try again, "but if it declines again I'm not doing it a third time."... THEN DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME, don't give me that when YOU made the mistake, what, my banker is lying lmao? Told him not to bother running it again, what a terrible attitude, if you mess it up, do it till you get it right you magnificent champion. Don't blame your mistake on me, and then give me attitude because you can't even enter an expiration date correctly. Last thing I wanna hear is how you won't do it cause YOU keep messing it up. How do u even stay in business? So unprofessional

Aidas Idzelis 6 years ago

Negative experience: This is my second MSF basic course I have taken in 7 years. The material covered is very good, that is because it is a MSF course. The instructor, Ian Munce, is very brash and arrogant. I do not recommend spending your money with these guys. Explore other options. Called on Monday 16:30 to pay for class on Wednesday, said I was to receive a text message with a log-in to complete a 3-5 hour class. Waited 6 hours to receive my text at 22:00. I was expecting to have the material earlier and completed before my busy day on Tuesday. Not very efficient nor professional. My time is valuable. On day one, no greetings or verbal instructions were given to anyone upon entering. We all sat in silence for 20 minutes until our instructor, Ian, finally said "just waiting on you, its your class..." We then as a class read the directions on the TV and struggled to navigate the total cluster fuggle of a classroom it was. I mean say hello, introduce yourself and give your students direction. We are here to be instructed, not sit in awkward silence. When we finally got out to the bikes, one gentleman, who clearly has never been on a monocycle was having trouble with his helmet. Ian yelled at him that his helmet was on incorrectly, and then slapped his chin strap off. This was right before we got on our bikes, I could only imagine how having your instructor yell and slap your helmet would effect your confidence ridding a motorcycle. This is not the military. Over the next two days, Ian was making political and homophobic comments through out class. This is a basic riders course, not a political forum. MSF should be aware of this very unprofessional instructor. bottom line, MSF course material is great, horrible experience.

Fantastic experience: It was a good class but have a thick skin and use your head because your going to really need to think. This is your course make the most out of it.

Positive experience: You will learn. You will not enjoy it.

Fantastic experience: I took their course over Memorial Day weekend. These guys are legit. They may seem a little harsh before you feel them out and realize they just want you to understand the importance of riding safely and how every little maneuver you make on the road can have a major consequence. They let you know loud and clear if you’re doing something wrong so you won’t do it out on the roads. Listen to what they tell you and you won’t have any problems. 10/10 would recommend.

Fantastic experience: Had an awesome time taking this course! The instructors are definitely cool, down to earth guys. Very good at instructing and good at explaining the instructions. They seemed to always be hands on with us like they cared about our safety and wanted us to learn!

Negative experience: If I could rate lower than 1 star, I would. First of all, I genuinely believe all the good reviews are fake. I arrived to the most beat down looking structure with 4 walls I’ve ever seen and immediately wished I hadn’t signed up with the place. It looks like an abandoned shed. If you have not seen this place, please just drive by it before you pay money. I waited for someone to arrive because even though I was supposed to be there 15 minutes early, no one else was there. Someone finally came a few minutes before class was supposed to start, and while I was standing outside the door, he gets out of his car and doesn’t even acknowledge I’m standing there. It was such an awkward feeling, but I tried to keep a positive attitude. I asked him if he was Marshall since that was the name I heard in the voicemail, and all he said was, “no” and nothing else. It felt like he either hated me or hated being an instructor. Once we entered the facility, I realized I needed to have taken the online course but hoped I could get some sort of grace to complete it by the next day since it was a 2 day course. When talking to him about my situation, his response was the coldest, most extreme lack of empathy response you could ever give a human being. He gave a sarcastic response saying “I sent the message and told you over the phone but you still didn’t do it, and who’s fault is that?” He said my only option is to sign up again and pay full price. I’m not saying he should have given me a refund or allowed me to take the class, but I’m just saying he didn’t have to be rude about it like that. They should offer alternatives to people who have already paid full price when an honest mistake is made. He pretty much took away my will to even want to learn anymore. I may decide to take a course somewhere else in the future, but at this point I feel discouraged because of this experience. I learned a lesson though after reading these reviews, I will not look at the quantity and rating only with business reviews. I will have to read and filter through the reviews for quality and accuracy because it seems that there are some that aren’t from real customers. All of these bad reviews are full of details and long because people are genuinely honest about how bad this place is and how rude and unprofessional these instructors are. Lost out on $200.

Fantastic experience: Great class dont be fooled with these reviews, Ian was a great instructor. Just passed 05/12/2019

Negative experience: Do not waste your time and money. The instructor doesn't explain that they charge you an extra 200.00 if you fail test you have to take in class. Easy money for them.

Moises Orozco 6 years ago

Negative experience: I was robbed of my $200. The so called “manager” of the place did not provide any form of mitigation due to miscommunication. They do not have a clear, reliable form of communication. Their only form is by text message. Once I was charged for the motorcycle class, I expected to receive a confirmation, for which, I never received. Weeks later, I show up to the class and noticed other students conpleted a online course. I question it to the “manager”. He told me I received a text message with a link for the online course. I said, “I received no such thing”. He said, “well, you’re not able to take this class then. You can reschedule but must pay full price.” I am not going to pay an additional $200 for a course that is normally priced for $200 due to miscommunication on their end. They should have included multiple forms of communication such as email and phone call confirmation. I highly do not recommend. I suggest taking the motorcycle course at a well known establishment such as a Harley location. Based on prior reviews, it seems their motorcycle are not mechanically able to perform and their teaching style is similar to that of a boot camp. Please do not waste your money and time at this extremely rude, unreliable, Unequipped location.

Negative experience: I signed up for this Beginner's Course to update and regain some basic "low speed" skills after many years of being a licensed motorcyclist, but I found out later I was signing up for an SS (Schutzstaffel) boot camp. 1- The instructors are terribly rude, aggressive, and yell at you violently at the slightest mistake, and in my case one specific instructor (blonde hair, pony tail) was yelling at me for the whole 2 days, threatening me at every minute mistake (such as stopping in the wrong place without putting anyone in danger or taking a cone from the right angle instead of the left ) to take me out of the course. I have been riding for 10 years. I am not the best rider by any shot, but this is a BEGINNER's course, hence no violent yelling should be allowed. 2- My motorcycle was a mechanical disaster. The rear brake lever was twisted from some previous falls, and difficult/impossible to reach. The engine kept stalling if I did not have the gas going all the time (even in neutral), I complained and was told a lot of excuses, but no help. They do not have enough bikes for you to pick one similar to what you are used to or learned with, so I went from riding in a sport bike-position to a 125cc Eliminator which absolutely changes the riding dynamics, so I suddenly became a beginner in a rotten bike. Same for Harley riders... what if you get stuck with a tiny 125cc like the Kawasaki Z-125??? How will that throw off your usual balance? 3- Two Hispanic guys felt mistreated by the instructors due to difficulties with the language, and said the instructors were racist, to which I concur. 4- Some motorcycles had completely worn out rear tires, and the course does not get cancelled due to rain. If you want your students to be safe, please give them something they can work with. Old, worn out tires are extremely dangerous. 5- They obviously failed me as soon as they could. My head was elsewhere, unable to concentrate, after being violently threatened and yelled at for 2 consecutive days... Of course I am not going to be 100% able to concentrate if I am being threatened loudly to be expelled at every slight mistake and NOT BEING GIVEN A SECOND CHANCE AT ANYTHING, like they did it for some other luckier people. 5- Some riders had no experience. They were not treated nor taught the right way. One of them left after the first day, I guess she was being yelled at to much and felt uncomfortable. 6- This is just my opinion: women were treated like less abled riders, with many yellings and unprofessional treatment towards them. They were there to learn a Beginner's Course... come on! 7- THIS IS NOT A PLACE FOR BEGINNERS, AND NOT A PLACE IF YOU HAVE SOME SELF-RESPECT. Or if you belong to a "minority", to which I belong, being Hispanic and 1/2 Jewish, American, but with a very strong accent. They got my $250, but it felt like I was being robbed.

Negative experience: Don't waste your time with this place. They're not professional and very rude. This place is a joke.

noey B 6 years ago

Negative experience: Do NOT WASTE YOUR TIME! The instructors are rude, not professional, the bike I had kept shutting off, kept revving on its own the entire time! No I had never driven, but felt like I couldn’t ask questions, made me feel uncomfortable and degraded. I kept trying! Fell three times, not once did they come to my aid, the other students came to help and pulled the bike off my ankle. The bike it self had major dents to it and was not operable for teaching, It was worthless and as a woman they kept making jokes about balls among other ridiculous comments. I don’t get offended easily I work with men but this is suppose to be a classroom orientation, professional setting, learning environment. I aid you not to waste your time and money with these people, even before instruction all thy kept saying is how they are ready to dismiss you out of class. They also picked on another student stating he had no common sense, weather he did or not that’s not for me to hear as another student, so Unprofessional. These instructors have no will to want to help you. They even kept saying they aren’t here to teach you, that you were supposed to know everything from a 3 hour online orientation course that you take weeks before the class starts. As never being on a bike before, it takes time and when you don’t understand right away they belittle you for it and or threaten to kick you out and say no refunds. Worst experience ever! Even the experienced riders in the class were complaining about their methods. Stay away and find another place.

Fantastic experience: Took the MSF course about a week ago, had the instructors Ian and Darren. These guys really know their stuff. They don't just teach you half assed. They really try to emphasize the fundamentals. Don't expect to take this course and come out of it a perfect rider. That won't happen. However, the course will help you to start developing good riding habits and teach you the very basic information you will need before going out and practicing on your own. Also as to previous reviews saying that SWMT is like a bootcamp, yes they will make fun of you as you mess up and will be stern if you repeat the same mistakes over and over again. Learn to laugh at yourself and you'll be fine. Don't take this course if you have a massive ego. Otherwise it's highly recommended!

adam phillips 6 years ago

Negative experience: Do not take the class. This is a military style, boot camp class. I had a terrible experience and was not treated professionally. I am quite concerned about the language used during my time there and almost thought to record it. I was personally attacked for my profession and the one female we had in the class was made fun of multiple times for her gender. Pay the extra fee, wait the extra time but go somewhere else. Update*** I passed the class at rolling oaks Mall 3 days later. Couldn't have been more night and day. Super respectful. Would pay for advanced training here absolutely. Shocked at the difference. I messed up in my choice the first time don't make the same mistake. I am a liscensed rider now.

Sean Saldivar 6 years ago

Negative experience: I do not recommend this class. I chose this class because it was closer than the other San Antonio options, and even though I passed it was a bad experience. The instructor if very unprofessional, inconsiderate, and seemingly unaware that it's a beginner course. They literally expect you to know everything right out the gate with little explanation. It's more of a boot camp feeling then a training class feeling. They are not very patient or encouraging. Their basic attitude is I already got your money and it's non refundable so I don't care. They tell you to ask as many questions as you need, but sigh and sarcastically ridicule you for doing so, with many inappropriate jokes and insults as possible. On top of learning a new, complex, dangerous machine for the first time, their attitudes make you anxious, nervous, and uncomfortable the whole time. They're like those teachers that put the assignment on the board and tell you "do the work or dont i dont care!" not a fun place to learn, go somewhere else. And again I passed so this isn't just bitterness towards them for no reason, they earn every ounce of it. And to clarify, one instructor isn't to bad, can't remember his name, but the instructor with long hair seemed really nice in the morning, it was when the bigger instructor with the limp walk in that everything went South.

Negative experience: My son and I were drawn to the fact that it is a family business and had 5 stars. My son, who has never driven a motorcycle was assured he would be ready to purchase and drive a standard motorcycle by the completion of the course. The day started with him being put on an automatic motorcycle. He stated that he didn’t want to learn on an automatic when he purchasing a standard but refused to change his bike. The “safety instructor “ had a leg injury which he bragged about getting by doing wheelies on his bike.....yes I DID say he is the safety instructor! The entire day he moved at the pace of the drivers who had driven bikes before and left the others behind. He said there is NO No way that he would have been able to pass because he was not given the same attention as the more advanced driver. And the straw that broke the camels back was his disgusting talk about women. He told the class that driving the class would get all of the laid more often. He made many other derogatory comments about women to which he told me that’s how men talk. Well that’s not how my son talks about women and did not return the second day. I want a refund as my son do not get anything that he was promised and it was a hostile environment. I won’t my money returned as he didn’t get anything that was promised

Fantastic experience: I highly recommend this place! It’s all common sence. If you study while taking the Basic riding course... you will pass the final exam. If you pay attention when they explain what you have to do while driving the motorcycles, you will pass the driving evaluation. It’s that easy!!! I’d also like to point out that I bought my gear today and they asked me at “cycle gear” if I had taken the course yet and I said yes I have. I showed them my completion card , so they gave me a 15% discount for my first purchase. Y’all definitely need to go there and save some money !!

Fantastic experience: The course with these guys is 100% about safety and how to stay alive on a motorcycle. They take the course seriously but still allow everyone to have a good time as long as everyone is following the safety rules and following all instruction. I highly recommend anyone looking to take a MSF course to head over to SWMT. They'll even let you bring your own bike!

rusty hammett 7 years ago

Fantastic experience: I attended the class about 3 weeks ago now and I have to say this is definitely the place to go if you’re looking to getting into riding a motorcycle. Since the class I have put over 1000 miles on my bike and the skills and knowledge gained from the class has definitely made me a safer and more aware rider. The staff is knowledgeable and is more than happy to share what they know and pass on the wisdom they’ve learned through years or riding.

Hunter Davis 7 years ago

Fantastic experience: The instructor doesn't hold anything back, if you screw up he's quick to tell you and to coach you about how not to get yourself killed.

Cati Cat 7 years ago

Negative experience: The markings on the parking lot are very hard to see, therefore seeing the evaluation markings which are very light and hard to see with the sun facing directly on parking lot course. The sun is facing the parking lot making, it even harder! If you fail, $100 extra to retake course. So, since I never rode a bike before, I failed twice. Out of 7 students 5 failed! Something is wrong and I hope something happens to check on this one business and its pass/fail rate.

Fantastic experience: Great instructors! Ian and Darrin, helped show and correct things I had been doing wrong for over 20 yrs. They showed me techniques to simplify the way I rode and make it more enjoyable. No matter how long, or how little you have been riding, if you have not had formal, basic level training, then you need to see these guys. They can open your eyes on the course.

Fantastic experience: Just got done attending this class 08/09/17-08/10/17. Sun was kicking our butts, but we got through it. Instructors (Ian/Darrin) were very knowledgeable and patient. I learned so much and had fun doing so. I would recommend this class to anyone.

Fantastic experience: We just went thru the course this past weekend. We had fun and Learned allot from two guys who have a plethora of knowledge for riding. Gotta have thick skin and be able to laugh at yourself. Definitely will refer to others and look forward to going back for more advanced courses.

Fantastic experience: I am extremely satisfied with my choice of motorcycle training schools. The coaches were knowledgeable, patient, and absolutely provided the type of learning environment that I needed. I learned a lot in two days, and was actually sad when it was over because I was having fun while learning skills that will not only help me advance in my hobby but will most definitely save my life. I will recommend this class 100% and will return for advanced classes. Take the leap, you will not regret it!

Fantastic experience: Took the class recently and was a great learning experience... 98%of the class past... instructor was great and funny...worth all $200....

Fantastic experience: It is well worth the cost. Great group of guys and they don't treat you like you're in a class. Everyone gets involved. The guys are pretty laid back, but they still take the training serious. If you're looking to get a few classes in before you ride, or even after you start, this is the place to go. 2 thumbs up

Kendall Weeks 9 years ago

Fantastic experience: Never one to leave a review on anything but felt the need too here. Had Ian and Marshall as my instructors and I can tell you that I knew how to ride before and took the course just for my M endorsement and came out of the 2 day beginner course with new helpful knowledge. These guys go out of their way to teach you what you need to pass and go above and beyond with tips that will help you out in the real world on the street and do so while also being funny. Never a dull moment during the course. They truely care for your safety and would recommend this place to anyone. If you take his class anywhere else you're missing out and wasting your money.

Brandon 9 years ago

Fantastic experience: Took this class this past weekend and it was a great learning experience. The teachers were fantastic and taught us a lot. It was serious fun and definitely worth the money. I did not have confidence riding a motorcycle before this class, and now I am and know what I need to continue working on to get better.

Jimmie Pike 9 years ago

Fantastic experience: These guys are outstanding. They spend time with the most inexperienced riders to ensure they get up to speed. They maintain a positive attitude throughout the course and make riding fun. If you're in the area and looking for a class for your motorcycle license. This is the place! There price isn't bad either. This is the second course I've taken (had to renew my certs for my job) and this course was about $100 cheaper.
