Lockport #1 Driving School: Reviews
Negative experience: I would rate it no stars if I could, horrible service and horrible communication with the customers. He went through the whole class with heavy amounts of dissatisfaction but be begrudgingly passed the class all for them to say that I didn't complete my class so I can't get my driver's license. Overall a huge waste of time and a poor investment of money if you are considering this school please consider any other school which would be ten times better.
Negative experience: Extremely unprofessional
Negative experience: This driving school should not be allowed to enroll minors into their program. My son went there and shared how Mr. G talks to the students. I called the owner to complain only for him to say my son “is not Mr. G’s equal!” As a school social worker with a public education license, this was beyond appalling. ALL human beings are equal and I made sure I told him that. A true professional knows children should not be treated with such disrespect. Real educators model appropriate behaviors and DO NOT belittle their students. Prior to my conversation with the owner, my son had complained about the teacher on numerous occasions. Parents, just wait until your kids could take Drivers Ed at school which will be taught by an actual licensed educator. I don’t understand how this place is still in business with the numerous complaints.
Negative experience: Do not sign your child up for this place! The owner is incredibly rude and Mr. G. does nothing, but berate the children and make them uncomfortable during Behind The Wheel. This place shouldn't even be in business.
Negative experience: 2 of my kids did the driving class here but refused to do behind the wheel as the teacher was not pleasant with them. So they did other half at the high school.
Negative experience: Mr. G has to be the worst teacher I've ever known and he was incredibly unprofessional. On my second drive with him he yelled at me then told me that he was never going to drive me again even though we already paid for the class. He expects the students to learn with no hiccups. Mr. Sagnus on the other hand was a great teacher who taught his students calmly. Mr. G was so bad that he brings my score down to a 1 out of 5.
Negative experience: Don’t recommend
Negative experience: If you want your teenager to feel confident behind the wheel this is NOT the place to send them. She went through and witnessed yelling, belittling, horror stories, and wheel grabbing by her teacher. She had nothing good to say. They scared my daughter from taking her driving test. It took a whole year for her to want to test and she was scared to drive for the first few months after getting her license. All this I found out later, I wish she had told me while she attended. Please don't send your child here unless you plan on scaring them off from getting their license.
Negative experience: Horrible experience for my teen! Instructor smokes in the car, yells at the kids while they’re driving, grabs the steering wheel. Don’t send your kids to this school, essentially if they have any kind of anxiety. Made my kid afraid to drive.
Fantastic experience: My family lives in the Chicago burbs and have used this driving school over the years. Always pleased with their services in the class and on the road.
Negative experience: This is the worst driving school. The title “Lockport #1 Driving School” does not accurately represent this school. Where do I begin, I started the classroom portion of the class during the pandemic, so the lessons were over zoom. The lessons were pretty alright, but when a student would get an answer wrong on a question, the teacher “Mr. G” would get upset at them and talk down on them. Mr. G was never proud of any of his students and never gave praise for a student getting an answer correct. The behind the wheel portion of the class was the worst part. When I say the worst, I truly mean the worst. Mr. G was rude and unprofessional. When I drove with him, he constantly got angry when I was driving perfectly fine. Every time a student wouldn’t drive the exact way he wanted them to, he wouldn’t give reassurance he would simply say things like “if you drive like this on your driver’s test you will immediately fail”. When I was doing my observation and Mr. G told a student driving that she shouldn’t even think about getting her license yet. The anxiety that Mr. G would give students was obvious and I could see how the students didn’t feel comfortable. I feel like as a new driver this would really hurt someone’s self-esteem. Mr. G would constantly talk about people dying in car accidents and if he wasn’t talking about that he would sit in silence. If a student made a mistake, he would make demeaning comments to them. I don’t know how he thought that students would stop making those same mistakes if he would just criticize and be rude to them instead of explaining and telling them to do better next time. Out of all my hours of driving with Mr. G he never said one positive thing during my driving. Even before the driving he was rude, when I got into the car I said, “wow it’s so cold outside” and Mr. G said, “that’s not my problem”. He would have no patience with his students, and I don’t think he should be able to teach if he does not change his attitude towards students. Mr. G has unrealistic driving expectations. I understand driving safe and properly, but the way Mr. G wanted his students to drive wasn't comfortable, safe nor efficient. Reading other reviews, I see people have had the same problem.
Negative experience: This is one of the worst driving schools around. The teachers mostly Mr G was terrible. Being in the car with him gave me so much anxiety. He isn't patient with anybody and everyone that's been to him has have negative feelings. Mr S wasn't bad but still not the best. I passed this driving school and i wish i would of spent the extra money to go somewhere else with better instructors. As a student who deals with teachers everyday these are the worst ones iv ever had to deal with. Spend your money elsewhere.
Negative experience: If I could give negative stars, I would. First off, it is absolutely impossible to get in contact to make driving appointments with the man who takes the students out on rides because he is always "driving". Shouldn't they have someone who makes the appointments for him? They would ask us to call after 9pm when everyone's trying to sleep. Then, this man has the audacity to not let my daughter drive the vehicle due to HIM being late. VERY POOR COMMUNICATION AND HES VERY RUDE. I have also heard this man talk to other students and have heard other parents have many issues with him. PLEASE STAY AWAY AND GO ELSEWHERE!!!!!! BEWARE !
Fantastic experience: i loved the driving experience, the teacher was understanding, patient and i learned a lot from this driving school
Positive experience: Mr. S is a very nice and patient teacher, he made my sister and I feel very comfortable in our drives and I would recommend him to many other people.
Fantastic experience: Very good place, not very professional but very good with knowledge
Positive experience: Pretty good, well taught, but possibly a little to much homework.
Fantastic experience: Mr. S was a great instructor, he worked with us and made everything accommodating for us. He was very calm and patient and made my son feel very comfortable, thank you again Mr. S. you were awesome.
Positive experience: Our two sons took their behind the wheel instruction through Lockport #1 Driving School. The instructor was very accommodating to our family's busy schedule. We had to schedule in advance of sometimes knowing our actual schedule, but the instructor was understanding about needing to cancel and reschedule as long as we did so a few days in advance. As far as instruction goes, my husband and I believe it was outstanding! Of course we were not in the car to witness this personally, but every time my husband or I drove our sons somewhere after they completed a session, we were reminded by our sons of all the correct rules for safe driving! I was very pleased they were paying attention and learning! I was also reminded how much we, as parents, are watched by our children and how important it is to set a good example. My husband and I are very comfortable riding as passengers in our car now when a son of ours is driving. We give Lockport #1 Driving School a great deal of credit for this!
Fantastic experience: The class is actually in depth and the information found in the book is used in the road. The teachers are very passionate about you retaining the information.
Fantastic experience: Very much liked the style and organization of the teaching and driving lessons. We used a bigger, franchised school with our first child and I preferred Lockport #1 Driving School. Mr. G and Mr. S actually teach the kids how to drive on the road. If your child goes to Lockport Central the over the road lessons can not be any more convenient! They can be scheduled at 3:30 so the kids can walk from school to the lesson. The only negative (and it's not really a negative) is that the classroom is a small, older room on the 3rd floor that is accessible only via elevator or the stairs on the outside of the building. I would use this school again if i had a need.
Positive experience: Personally, I did not Find that the class and work was very difficult, but the hours made it really difficult to complete my schoolwork for High School. I also feel That a stronger effort could have been made to teach more in the class for it felt like we went over answers to the Homework without really Going in depth in the subject.
Fantastic experience: Very good teaching. Will recommend to others.
Negative experience: It was a great program also have learned a lot but in the car the driver instructor would grab the steering wheel while I was driving
Fantastic experience: Learned A lot !
Fantastic experience: The teaching was very good and make sure you look back at the notes they give you
Fantastic experience: i liked the classes i thought they were great i definitely learned a lot and the teacher was great
Fantastic experience: Our son took the driving course over the summer. He is doing great. Feels confident. Planning to send our younger child next year. Get a discount for second one taking the class
Fantastic experience: My Niece recently passed her driving test on the first try thanks to Lockport #1 Driving classes. Thanks!
Fantastic experience: Very good teacher. Straightforward and very affordable. Makes driving real easy. I Would recommend to anyone.
Fantastic experience: Mister G did a great job instructing my daughter. After taking the 12 hour course she is now confident to drive. My younger daughter will be starting here next year.
Fantastic experience: I loved the hands on and down to earth approach, Keith taught me everything I needed to know about rules and conduct on the road, longafter others gave up on me. All i needed to do was to be willing to put in an effort and be respectful, and I had effort put into my instruction. They even stood up for me when the DMV was confused about me needing 6 hours behind the wheel when im already 18. The short of it is because of the knowledge and habits I attained from this school I was able to pass and get my License.
Fantastic experience: I give lockport #1 driving school a 5 stars because they take effort to teach kids how to drive and the dangers that comes along with getting behind the wheel. There goal is to make there students soon to be licensed drivers and take there time to make sure you have your classes and drive time done and that you are well educated about being behind the wheel and for what might happen while your behind the wheel. They always make sure there students are always safe drivers, and smart about making decisions while driving.
Negative experience: The only teacher I know who doubts their students.
Negative experience: Don't know what the driving instructor told my daughter but she quit the behind the wheel training and refused to go back because of him even though she could be getting her license next month. She said she would rather do it all over again in high school drivers ed where the instructors are nice to the students. Guess the comments were bad enough for her to quit because now she has to wait another year for her license.
Negative experience: My son finished the course. Passed, they got paid and never turned in his paperwork to the state of Illinois. After speaking with the Secretary of the State of Illinois. A 1 driving school can simply fill out the necessary paper work on line. After 2 months my wife phoned, they said they sen it in, told her the state of Illinois is not doing their job. She waited another month, phoned again. They told her the same thing. Bottom line is, they got their money, and quite doing their job!!!! Do not pay them until your child has completed the course and they prove to you that they completed on line or sent the necessary paper work in to the state to show the state you completed the course. They don't return phone calls, and when you get some on on the phone they tell you the person who handles that is not in today.
