Negative experience: I’ve called and emailed 3 times to get my daughter signed up and they literally won’t respond. I guess by reading the other reviews it’s probably a good thing, we will be going elsewhere.
I'm sorry that you had that experience. I have looked back through our email history, and can't find anything from you. We answer our phone messages daily. Maybe you are mistaken. We often get folks who are already signed up with a different driving school calling to make appointments, only to realize that they've called the wrong place. We are Right Start Driving School, with 2 locations:
Carrollton (972) 242-1333 and
Corinth (940) 497-4779.
Negative experience: I would not recommend based off my experience. A couple reasons: 1. Less than favorable Availability. For driving sessions, the turn around time is at the minimum 2 weeks out. This would allow at most 2 driving sessions per month. However, there were also a number of months where there was no availability at all. The reasoning varied between, the drivers haven’t opened up their schedule and the drivers not wanting to schedule due to so many cancellations. In addition to all that, then you have the usual closures during the holiday months. A combination of all those events made it extremely difficult to complete the requirements during the 12 month period. Right start was happy to extend the contract for a fee however. 2. Unprofessional driving instructors. To be specific my son’s complaints were only related to Ray. To start, he completely shot down my son‘s confidence by recommending he first have more experience driving before signing up for another driving session/class. The audacity. My son took Ray’s words to heart and we took the initiative to teach my son to drive. Ray also feels it appropriate to speak about politics during his driving sessions with teens. Speaking on various topics including deportation and other racially sensitive items. 3. Outdated systems for tracking, scheduling and data retention. 4. Inconsistent hours. Being told over the phone the office is open till 6 pm. I arrive at 4:50 pm to a closed office. A driving session finished as I was waiting around and the instructor stated the office closes around 5 pm. ♀️ There were other grievances but I’ll leave all that out.
Negative experience: Stopped by to get information on signing up my teen. The front desk lady, older woman, was ride. She didn't even greet me and acted like I was bothering her by being there. She asked me if I had certain documents to register, I told her no because I didn't know what I needed that's why I was there to find out about what is needed and the paperwork. She interrupted me when speaking and trying to ask questions. Uncalled for completely. I told her never mind and left because she was rude.
Negative experience: Front desk made my appointment 4 days in advance, and the day of the driving test "They did not have it on the computer". Front desk lady Rude over the phone, rude in person, "Manager" did nothing to fix their mistake.
Fantastic experience: We are very happy with them my first son started driving with them and my younger son is currently there. Everyone is nice can only recommend

Fantastic experience: Great experience from start to finish. Tracy and Mr.Franklin were so kind. My daughter said Mr. Franklin was very patient and did not make her feel nervous at all about her road test. Would definitely recommend.

Fantastic experience: This place made it a great experience for my daughter. Of course, like most teens she was extremely nervous but Kevin was her instructor and he had her laughing from the very beginning. It helped her get over her nerves. I felt like this company really cared about our experience and was very kind and organized. I definitely recommend them to anyone with a new teen needing a license. The experiences I’ve heard friends share with me of other places they have gone make me so grateful we got so lucky going here. 10/10 for sure!

Negative experience: My son did this driving school and the instructor insisted that because I was a woman I couldn't possibly teach my son to drive and that he needed his dad to teach him. I tried to take my daughter who wanted to wait until 18, and was told that they don't do adult classes and I would need to drive to carrollton to do it.. Their freaking window says 6 hour adult classes!!!. Yikes. Here's my receipt at the bottom. It probably didn't help that when I tried to sign her up the front desk girl rolled her eyes and sighed loudly slamming her mcdonalds breakfast down on the desk letting me know that I clearly bothered her. So yeah this place will never get my business again.
Hello, sorry that this happened to you, but because when we do see a customer while eating we try to hurry up and move our food out the way. No rudeness was intended at all as of right now we don't have an instructor to teach at our Corinth location and we are currently looking for one. Once we have a teacher we will be continuing adult courses in Corinth.
Negative experience: This place sucks they never answer the phone and getting a drive time is impossible
Negative experience: Can not provide any time drive practice. Lack in customer service. Lack trailered drives for drive time. Cancel drive time an hour before. Make you call daily to see if a spot is open. If you are paying for a service TO TRAIN YOUR CHILD TO DRIVE I would absolutely except timely and responsible customer service as well as capable and dependable staff.
Negative experience: Multiple issues scheduling drive times as others have mentioned. They don't issue anything in writing when you schedule an appointment nor do they have any sort of confirmation system. It's their word against yours. Twice the office has failed to accurately record our scheduled drive time causing us to miss the appointment. Of course they attempt to collect the $25 fine. Seems a bit unfair when there are no records to prove or disprove their argument that we are at fault for missing the appointment. Wish we would have selected a different school.
Negative experience: It has been 13 months since I signed my child up for this school. Complete the 4-week course work with an ease; however, when it came to scheduling actual drive time a month later, it has been a nightmare. 1 year and still have a couple of sessions left. Find another driving school.
Negative experience: Had several calls since August 2022 to schedule my son's drive times. Either the person who answers, can not schedule drivers and I would have to call back later, or they are not admin and don't have control of the schedule. Now they want 50 dollars to extend the contract. I have asked to speak to the manager James. Still waiting for the call back.
Negative experience: It's been eight months and my kid still hasn't finished the drive times. They don't have enough instructors. Apparently the instructors they do have are always sick. They don't care if it's unreasonable amount of time to finish. They don't use computers for scheduling it's all done by hand so you have to call all the time to get a drive time. If you miss a drive time they fine you $25 but they don't take money over the phone. You have to physically drive down there to pay it and until then you are not allowed to schedule another drive time. They seem to constantly change their own rules and don't care. They are never sorry for any inconvenience big or small. I've lost count of the amount of messages I have left on their answering machine over the last eight months. They have never returned a single phone call. This is totally insane to me. Go to Vista Ridge instead where they are properly staffed.
Fantastic experience: I loved my expirence here! I took my drivers test here and everyone was very nice and helpful. Good constructive criticism as well.
Positive experience: MAKE SURE YOU KEEP TRACK OF YOUR KIDS TIME YOURSELF IN CASE THE PERSON WHO IS SCHEDULING DOES NOT MAKE NOTES. Otherwise everything else is good.
Fantastic experience: No one returns calls. Already signed up and paid for lessons but can’t get drive times. Update- did get a call back from the owner with an apology. I understand that after Covid things have changed and everyone can be understanding.
Fantastic experience: It worked very well for my daughter to take her road test here. We did the parent-taught driving instruction first. Also, I definitely recommend paying a little extra for the skills evaluation. The instructor takes them through a practice round before the actual road test, and it really helps to alleviate nerves and get them comfortable.
Negative experience: Driving Instructors do not show up And will cancel your drive time. They will also charge you when you do not show $25
Fantastic experience: The office ladies in the office are very polite. Comfortable to chat with. Jamie gave both my girls their tests. He's super nice and extremely helpful. Thank you to the staff.
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff and professional instructors. They make sure your lessons are appropriate to your level and make it clear what you need to work on and how to do so. Special thanks to Mr Wells who truly cares about the students' performance and success. It can get pretty busy there so I'd plan and book drive-time in advance.

Fantastic experience: I have used them 3 times to administer driving tests for my kids. After the last one, the local DPS office told us (confidently but incorrectly) that the instructor that had administered the test was not qualified at that location and would not issue the license. Very quickly, I was able to speak with the owner of the school, who was able to contact the appropriate DPS official in Austin, who was then able to contact the local DPS office and correct their mistake - all within 2 hours. Not only did they do a great job with testing, they turned some very big bureaucratic wheels very quickly.
Fantastic experience: This place was able to fit me in their schedule same day! and my driving instructor was super nice. I totally recommend them to take your Driving test instead of waiting the long lines for the DPS to get you in.
Negative experience: While yes you can learn how to drive in this class as expected. The amount of times my instructor was late to their own class, and the amount of times she lied to make a student seem bad is unbelievable. I can remember 4 times she counted a student completely absent for not knowing how to turn their homework in, even when they were there on time. She starts the class late, and is the most strict and stuck up instructor for no reason. I can completely understand why they would be strict in the car, because they have to make sure the learning driver and them are safe. But there has been to many times when she has completely ignore facts to "get the last word" or "be right". She once kicked a kid out for there internet disconnecting, she asked the student why he was late back from break. He then respectfully answered and she disagreed kicking him out. Keep in mind this class isn't cheap and parents cant afford their kids booing kicked out because the instructor is unprofessional. Overall if you want your kid to learn how to drive they can learn here but be prepared for them to hate there life for the next month

Fantastic experience: Took road test with them for drivers license. Great alternative 3rd party authorized to give road tests for dmv for a fee but well worth it with Less wait time than scheduling appointments with the dmv. Professional and very courteous.
Fantastic experience: During a really tough time for TDPS (and the rest of the world!) these guys are super kind and doing all they can to help students and their parents out. I wish everyone would be kind because where we are frustrated for our teenagers Right Start has been SO kind, understanding and helpful when everything else is way crazy!

Fantastic experience: My daughter took her driving test here and it was great. They are very polite and friendly. My daughter was very comfortable and relaxed with her instructor Jamie Franklin. We opted for the skills evaluation before the driving test which Im very glad we did. It gives them a small warmup before the actual test. Overall a great experience from scheduling to the actual appointment day. I would definitely recommend this driving school.

Negative experience: Called several times. No voicemail and nobody answered the phone between 2 & 4 on a weekday. It is hard to do business with someone if I cant get a hold of them. I have had 2 boys go to the school. All I needed was the current pricing. If you are not responsible enough to get phone messages I don't want to leave my child with you.
I'm so sorry this happened, but it was completely out of our control, as we do have sporadic telephone line problems in our complex, and today was a day that it was especially bad. Our system is set to go to voicemail after a few rings, most likely like your own phone, but when we're involved with another conversation, it sometimes doesn't roll over to the voicemail. Again, I'm so sorry for the inconvenience you experienced today.
Negative experience: Ray Wells is a terrible instructor! It's the schools job to teach, my son doesn't have much experience driving with us yet, we were waiting for him to finish with the school first. He's been criticized by Ray. Ray makes several kids uncomfortable (mostly the males, he apparently talks/jokes with the females-creepy). On the first highway drive time, while entering the highway, Ray slammed on the brake, grabbed the wheel and pulled the car to the shoulder of I35. If they were in danger, I understand and appreciate the urgency in doing so. However, what happened next was extremely dangerous and could have gotten my son killed! Ray Wells made him GET OUT OF THE CAR ON THE SHOULDER OF I35 to move to the passenger seat. He couldn't even open his door completely without thinking he might have the door ripped off by another vehicle/18 wheeler. I've called and left messages to speak with Lonnie Smith, THE OWNER but no return call, he's always busy or never there! Dont send your kids here EVER. In addition, waits for drive times are ridiculously long. We were told they don't have enough drive instructors.....

Positive experience: Im only docking stars because their third party road test info said nothing about having to go back to the DPS to get my photo taken. Thats the whole reason I paid the extra money to take it third party! The state just took my photo the day before so they should have it on file! I realize its a DPS issue at heart but it should be on the website as full disclosure. Otherwise they were great! Update your website and Ill update my review.

So sorry we did not inform you about having to go to the DPS to get the actual drivers licence. Sadly, we have never had access to the DPS files. The class portion is only 3 or 4 weeks, but we wouldn’t ever try to complete the behind-the-wheel portion within that time-frame. Our method allows for there to be time after each lesson so the student has opportunities to practice with a parent or other responsible adult driver before moving on to the next lesson. Please accept my sincere apology that we didn’t make this clear for you before you signed up for our program. Hang in there, and you will be finished soon.

Negative experience: Everyone is nice, instruction is good but they should put something or at least inform people that it can take 3 or 4 months just to complete the 7 driving lessons. My daughter started beginning of June for a 3 week class. I expected her to be done in 3 weeks. She turned 16 in July, now school has started and she still has 2 more lessons. They only schedule 1 at a time and it 2 to 4 weeks between times. We finished her 30 hrs of home driving befor her birthday.

Negative experience: They are so incompetent, unorganized and rude. I advise that you don’t pay for anything in advance because they can never find paperwork. I have to drive in to make an appointment for lesson because they can’t find anything. They put my son under the first name of Carlos when his name is Cain. Where do you get that from? I guess since my son has a Mexican last name they decided to rename him.
