Waterford Driver Testing: Reviews
Fantastic experience: as a new driver who hasn’t been on the expressway since drivers training two years ago, he was such a helpful guy! super respectful, gave tips/constructive criticism along the way during every part and was very reasonable and logical. i’m convinced that if i went somewhere else for my test i wouldn’t have done as well as i did today
Thank you Madison. I will let your instructor Jim know you had a very nice test. I'm glad things went well. Thank you again.
Fantastic experience: I had a great driving test experience. He was really nice and corrected me in a friendly manner. My mistakes were clearly communicated to me. His feedback and encouragement after the test meant a lot to me too ! I highly recommend Waterford Driver testing.
Fantastic experience: He was the best. He made me feel more comfortable and less nervous and corrected me without being rude. He wasn’t dishonest, but he wasn’t mean about it. I’ve had experience in the past with another person who made me nervous during parking. His attitude made me feel more confident so thank you for that!
Fantastic experience: I had a great experience here! My instructor Luke was very kind, funny, and made me feel at ease during the road test! I definitely recommend coming here, thank you!
Fantastic experience: This is my first time for the driving test and I'm a bit nervous.Mr Stewart is very kind, during my road test, he was very enthusiastic and gave me a lot of advice on safe driving.I will be back for the next test for my husband.
Fantastic experience: My daughter had a wonderful experience! Her instructor Luke was professional, personable and made her feel comfortable throughout the entire process. Would highly recommend !
Negative experience: So I went here a few years ago and passed. Admittedly, I had a lot to work on still, as I had only been driving for a few months, but the guy who did the drivers test was unreasonably standoffish the whole time. I give him credit that he did let my cousin ride with us, but other than that, he just came off very cold and rude, and based off of the other reviews, I’m not the only one with that experience. It was already a bad day enough for my cousin and I, as my cousin’s mother had literally just died that morning. My cousin wanted to get his mind off of that so he wanted to take me to the test. At the end of it, the guy ended up calling my cousin “stupid” over driving to the parking lot. I would not recommend taking a teenager, especially a nervous one, to this guy. His behavior is probably just going to make them more nervous, as like I said, he’s very standoffish.
Fantastic experience: Amazing experience! My son felt safe and calm while being tested on the road! Highly recommended!
Negative experience: Gleefully admitted he was a Democrat don’t give this company your business he is the reason our country is falling apart.
Fantastic experience: My son's experience with Mr. Stewart during his road test was very positive. Mr. Stewart is excellent at making a stressful situation less stressful. Thank you, Mr. Stewart!
Fantastic experience: We had such a great experience with Waterford Driver Testing! Starting with the scheduling, and ending with the test by itself. Our examiner, Luke, was super calm, confident, and professional. My mom was very nervous about the driving test, but everything went so smoothly. She passed the test and got a lot of great advice. We definitely recommend Waterford Driver Testing and Luke for your driver test!
Negative experience: *Response to owner* I do understand when some is joking and I understand that was YOUR intent, but as I stated after so much of it, it was perceived differently. I also stated I understood and agreed with the decision for the no pass, but knew you’d bring that up as a defense. Our experience was exhausting! It started with the instructor somewhat fussing about us sitting in the parking lot across from the testing site and not immediately coming over when he signaled for us to. We weren’t late, we were early and we were sitting in the car having a conversation to help ease my daughters nerves. I guess that bothered him because he instantly started yelling, “move forward, keep coming,” but it was the delivery and tone of the commands. Moving on, the test begins and that is where we were berated, “jokingly” demeaned, and treated a certain way based on my daughters high school in the district. Initially it presented in a way as if to say Mott students were less intelligent based on them not coming from the instructors high school of choice, Kettering. Let me be clear, this isn’t a review from a parent that’s upset based on scoring provided to my daughter and feedback. She made mistakes, and should have been scored accordingly as a no pass, but the instructors delivery of criticism was extremely harsh, almost like he knew my daughter and just didn’t like her, I guess because she wasn’t from Kettering. There was just a rudeness about his approach and temperament that made both of us raise our brows. I honestly don’t even believe he’ll acknowledge this based on previous reviews, more than likely he’s going to comment on what “she” did wrong to cover his actions, as a “defense” and response to this review.
Hi, I'm sorry you thought I was not nice to your daughter. I was trying to make conversation with her to calm her down. If I can get them to laugh a little if usually calms them down. If you remember I asked her about her teachers because I know several of them at Mott. She was in Mr. Walrath's class but had others that I know also. Yes I taught at Kettering for 22 years. There is/was a fun rivalry between the schools. I asked her who won the kettering/ mott basketball game. I asked her if she played any sports. She said track. She said she ran the 100, 200 and was in the relay and one other. I mentioned I could never run four events in the same day. Do you remember that? You agreed with me that that was a lot of running. I asked her if she had a job. She said she worked at Home Goods. All of these things I ask to try to calm the student down. I joked with her about being from Mott as I was from Kettering. You really don't seem to understand when someone is joking and trying to calm a nervous person down. You laughed a bit also as I remember. As for before the test, yes I asked you why you did not drive over when I waved at you but that was the extent of the conversation about that. There was no attitude. I gave the test as I always do. Your daughter was a good driver but ran a red light near the end of the test. I cannot pass a student that runs a red light and I explained how important it is get those decisions correct. If you thought I was being too strict I'm sorry but that is an important fact to get across to a young student.
Fantastic experience: Such a wonderful experience. My daughter was a nervous wreck and Stu instantly put her at ease and talked to her the entire time. It kept her focused and comfortable and her spirits up. He also gave her great feedback and things to work on while still learning. Can’t thank him enough!! I will be recommending this road test to everyone!!
Thank you Jackie that was a great ride.
Fantastic experience: Stewart was great! He made me feel at ease and was easy to talk to. He was fair and professional. Definitely go to Stewart for your driving test!
Thank you Claire. Great test.
Fantastic experience: My daughter took Segments 1 and 2 with Courtesy. This location is easy to find and Mr. Stewart was excellent in his communication for scheduling, directions, and instructions. He was straight to the point at the beginning of today’s test and conversational by the end, connecting with my daughter through sports. He is fair and kind and I will recommend him to other teens I know. A tip: all students should watch at least one online video to familiarize themselves with the setup so they are ready to go!
Thank you very much. She was a very good driver.
Fantastic experience: Pretty easy and uneventful process. Tester was very professional and provided good feedback to my son for his test.
Thanks a lot.
Fantastic experience: Mr. Stewart was incredibly pleasant to work with for my daughter's drivers test. She struggled with parallel parking, but that is on her for not practicing more. She made it into the road portion and passed! Mr. Stewart was incredibly personable with her, and made good conversation, which helped her to be less nervous. He was stern in his guidance, which is highly necessary when qualifying youth to be new drivers! Absolutely will be taking my son to him as well when he is up for his test.
Thank you very much Jill. It was a very nice drive. She was a good driver.
Fantastic experience: I was pleased with the feedback he gave my daughter. Driving is complex these days and safety has to be #1. Know before you go that ALL schools are hard when it comes to passing the parking portion. It took her 3x to pass and the first 2 tests were through a different school. I'd rather them get more practice then pass and get in an accident. Practice, help your kids, watch videos on line and practice some more before they go for the test. He is matter of fact, no nonsense with a little sarcasm mixed in, reassuring and kind. Thank you Mr. Stewart. ( we both thought she'd have to come back again, but 3x is a charm!)
Fantastic experience: I thought the driving instructor was great he was firm but fair I respect that because you need to know what you are doing while out on the road and he thought me a few extra things along the way nice job instructor
Fantastic experience: This is the 3rd time we have used Mr Stewart for a driving test. He is very calm and try’s to put the kids at ease with some small talk and jokes. He was extremely fair, clear, and gave good constructive feedback back for areas to be careful with. We will be returning for our other kids!
Thanks Jim
Negative experience: So happy to know I’m not the only one who had to deal with this man and felt he was overtly frugal. Seriously?? You take parellel parking THAT seriously that you’ll fail someone. Hahaha. Didn’t hit one cone. Still failed. Yet paid $70… what a joke.
I'm sorry your child failed. Most students pass. Hitting cones is not the only way to get points on the test. I explain all of those ways at the beginning of the test. Touching a line, hitting a cone, pulling forward when you are only allowed to go in reverse and finishing in the correct spot. All of those are possible points. Your child was allowed six points just like everyone else. I have been giving tests for over 23 years and have a very high pass rate. I am a high school teacher and hate when students don't pass. I would much rather give out certificates. But I must keep ALL drivers safe. The parking portion is a filter to see if the student is ready for the road that day. Some are too nervous and some have not practiced enough. Either way going on the road is not safe at that time. The State of Michigan has set up the scoring standards and I explain them and follow them. Sometimes parents take it harder than the student. Sorry again that they did not pass but the test was done fairly.
Negative experience: Rude, way too serious about parking .. crazy how many people never make it to the road test haha
I'm very sorry she didn't pass parking. I have been doing this for 23 years and it still hurts when a student does not pass. Most do pass. Parents often take it harder than the student. I can assure you I score the test the same way every time and it is the way the State of Michigan has trained us to do it. Again a very high percentage of students pass the entire test. Those that don't are either too nervous or haven't practiced enough. I have an obligation to keep the student, myself and other drivers safe. The parking portion lets us know if the student if ready for the road that day. It's nothing personal. I know it hurts when our child fails at anything. I would rather give certificates and make students days rather than have them come back. I also want to keep all of the drivers on the road safe.
Negative experience: Like others have reported, my child accrued too many points in the parking portion for being responsible and intelligent to ensure she was lined up properly and safely. Never went on a road test and I think that was probably for the best, the instructor's attitude and expressions did enough damage. I also recommend going elsewhere as this place seems designed to soak parents to keep spending more money on repeat tests.
I'm sorry your child did not pass. I would rather they pass. I explain the rules at the beginning of each test. Touching the lines, hitting cones, changing the direction of the car by pulling forward when they are supposed to be moving in reverse and finishing in the wrong spot are all points. Always have been. I have to score it the way the State of Michigan requires. Back and Forth movements get points each and every time. You can't fail if parallel parking is the only issue so your child must have accrued points in another area also. Again I'm sorry they failed. I must keep all drivers safe so if someone does not pass the parking they are not ready at that time for the road. Either too nervous or not enough practice. Most people pass. I have a very high pas rate over the 23 years I have been doing this. Hope they pass next time wherever they take it.
Negative experience: I don't know where to start but i paid 65 for my daughter to her drivers test on June 17, 2022 she was nervous of course what kid isn't. He didn't really explain a whole lot to her just expected her to do it without any issues. She was having a hard time parallel parking and he never took her on the road. so Yes i was a bit disappointed with this driver instructor. I will never recommend anyone i know to him. It was a waste of money.
I'm sorry she failed the parking but she had too many points. We cannot go on the road if the student does not make it through the parking. It is that way at all of the testing sites. It is explained in the fee and refund policy also. I have to keep it fair for everyone. If someone accumulates too many points on the parking they don't pass. I did explain the rules of the test to her.
Positive experience: I passed, even though I was super nervous especially with parallel parking but overall I wasn’t so nervous when we got on the road, had a smooth ride with the instructor I did get feedback which I appreciate so now I know where to work on more when I’m on the road . I Would Recommend .
Thank you Brianna. That was a great ride.
Fantastic experience: I was iffy at first just because it was a different company then what I did segment 1 and 2 with but I was amazed at how good of an instructor I had today. I was very nervous because it was my first road test, my instructor was very kind to me and helped me calm down when I was doing the parking. I’m so happy I went here instead of the other places. I would rate them 10⭐️ If I could!
Thank you Maddie. You did very well and it was a pleasure to drive with you.
Positive experience: It was very pleasant
Thank you Carla
Fantastic experience: mr stewart was really nice and offered very useful criticisms that i have already implemented into my driving. 10/10 reccomend testing here as it was a good experience and you dont get any vibes that youre wasting time or anything, something i have experienced with other driving education/testing locations.
Thank you very much Ella
Fantastic experience: Instructor was very good and put son at ease
Thank you. It was a pleasure. I like nice drives like that. Have a good holiday
Fantastic experience: I took my road test here a few moths ago and I totally recomend it!! The instructer joked with me and talked with me about my instrests and it helped me to stay calm. When I called to make an appointment they got me in quicky because of a cancellation (even with everything being backed up due to covid) and the comunication was awsesome!!
Thanks Lily.
Fantastic experience: how do I schedule a road test!
Negative experience: He has scammed us twice, and doesn’t explain anything. Got in my boyfriends face and screamed at him. He is not professional at all and in fact quite rude. Did not take the time to go through the government number to figure out what his permit says, like he was supposed to do instead of turning him away and taking his money. Super immature and not professional at all. Have to say, my boyfriend got his license by a better place. He is not a bad driver, this man just is very rude and made him nervous and was being rude throughout his road test.
The first time your boyfriend failed due to an illegal and dangerous left turn. He ran a red light! How is that scamming him? I am keeping other drivers safe from red light runners. The second time he showed up with a defaced level one license that had several numbers that were unreadable. We cannot give a test that has a damaged state issued document. Your boyfriend started screaming at me to '"give me my fu**ing money back" among other verbally abusive things. I will not stand for the type of disrespect that he showed. I have always refunded half of the fee for a document fail. I explained to him that the partial fee is the same type of issue that dentists and doctors charge when a patient does not show up for an appointment. My voicemail clearly explains the necessary documents and the fee if you have a document issue. He even mentioned that he that the numbers were damaged as he handed me the permit. He swore at me and was yelling in my face. I will not stand for that. When you make an illegal turn and have damaged documents unfortunately that is what happens. Other places would not refund any amount of the money. The two of you standing in the church parking lot screaming "f**k you" at the top of your lungs was very disrespectful to the church. They would like it if you do not come on their property again.
Fantastic experience: Highly recommend! Mr. Stewart was very professional, friendly, calm, and on time. My son received good feedback following the test on what he did well and what to improve.
Thank you very much. It was a very nice ride
Fantastic experience: Instructor was great! He provided constructive feedback and put my daughter at ease during the road test. Wonderful experience :)
Thank you Tammy it was a pleasure. I like drives like that.
Fantastic experience: I would reccomend this test administrator. He is very professional and gave me helpful advice at the end of the test.
Thank you Sophia. Drive safe.
Fantastic experience: Wonderful experience. Highly recommend. We found this place online. Read all the reviews. Initially I was concerned- as some people mentioned, that instructor is too strict. I figured if they don’t pass her- then it would be for a reason and for her own safety- and it’s all right if she needs to take it again. I was truly impressed w instructor Chuck. He is an educator with almost 30 years of experience, and knows teens well. He tried to reduce stress by jokes, and it made my daughter feel more comfortable ( she was petrified initially- she usually has test anxiety). Great overall experience. Thank you so much!
Thanks Dave. That was a fun drive.
Fantastic experience: Mr. Stewart was very professional, kind, and personable. Testing was conveniently located at the side lot of the church on Sashabaw Road. I would highly recommend this road test instructor. He had very constructive follow up advice.
Thank you Mechele. It was a pleasure driving with you.
Fantastic experience: Very good place to go for drivers training. The instructor has a very calm demeanor and attitude.
Thank you it was an enjoyable ride. Drive safe
Fantastic experience: I had an overall nice drive! I didn’t feel like he was being too hard on me or was making me nervous. I never got yelled at, nor was he rude. He gave me constructive criticism and tips on how to be a better driver. Thank you for the pleasant drive!
Thank you Mia. It was a pleasure driving with you
Fantastic experience: Would recommend to anyone looking for a spot to get tested. Instructor was very helpful and gave me advice on my weaknesses after completing the test. Overall a fair and helpful experience.
Negative experience: Beware The owner of this business accepted monies from my daughter, but changed the time on the day of the road test from 10:15 to 9:00 and He refuses to reschedule as he insisted on charging another driver's fee. My advice find someone who is legit He charged my daughter a late fee for a mistake he made and than argued a very disrespectful manner similar to the way he is responding to this review. I would not recommend him to my worst enemy chargedvher a 30 dollar late fee for a test he did not
Your daughter made her appointment for 9:00 am. We called her just after 9:00 to see if she was on her way. She DID NOT ANSWER. I guess you thought the appointment was for 10:30. Or she slept in. I'm sorry you missed the appointment and I said I would be happy to reschedule you again but would have to charge another fee. My instructor gets paid whether or not the customer shows up. I'm sure you like to get paid when you show up to work. I also pay rent even if you don't show up. I also have insurance to pay even if you don't show up. Again we called your daughter and would have waited a bit for her if she was running late. BUT SHE DID NOT EVEN ANSWER HER PHONE. We did not change the appointment time. I have been in the business over 20 years. Plenty of happy customers that know we run an honest business. I'm sorry if you cannot understand the situation.
Fantastic experience: Mr. Stewart was helpful to keep my nerves cool during the test and turned negative feedback into advice.
Thank you Abby. You did very well on the test. Drive safe.
Fantastic experience: I took my driver's test today with Mr. Stewart. He was very clear on his instructions before and during the test. If you can drive properly you will pass the test. If you have to work more on your driving skills hi will explain what are your mistakes. Mr. Stewart is fair in his assessments and I will recommend it to everyone who is ready to take the test.
Thank you Hristina. It was an enjoyable test. Stay safe
Fantastic experience: It was very easy and simple to make an appointment. I would recommend this place to friends and family.
Thanks Harry
Fantastic experience: My son and I had a very positive experience with Mr Stewart Tuesday before last. He was very calm, clear with instructions and knowledgeable with instructional feedback. Would highly recommend.
Thank you Sheri. I like drives like that. Just an easy drive around town.
Fantastic experience: My son took his driver's test today with Mr. Stewart and it was a very pleasant experience. Mr. Stewart was very clear on his instructions before and during the test and gave constructive advice on what things my son needs to still work on and what he did well at the end of the test. Mr. Stewart is friendly and made my son feel at ease as much as can be expected.
Negative experience: Driving instructer is really rude... Yelled at my husband during his test and almost caused an accident. I would recommend anyone taking a test with this guy he made my husband have a mental break down because the instructor yelled at him he is unprofessional stay away from this instroctor he ant worth the money or even the !!!! My husbands last name was talbot but you were offly rude i would recamend this school to anyone unless you want your kids to learn how to be a jack ass
I believe you have us confused with some other place. I do not have anyone with the last name of Curtis in my files. I'm sorry you had a bad experience but it was not with us.
Negative experience: Chuck made my son more nervous then he needed to . Was not clear on directions !! Would NOT recommend to anyone .
Positive experience: The instructor was very polite and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend him
Positive experience: My daughter just did her test with Mr. Stewart and he did a very good job. He spoke calmly with her when she made mistakes and handled things quite well. I appreciated him telling her what she needs to continue to work on to grow and be a better driver. I think his calmness helped her to calm down because she was extremely nervous. She did pass .
Positive experience: Would recommend to friends or family. Driving test was fair and accepting, no one yelled or got personal at all. Overall a good experience.
Fantastic experience: I love this location. The instructor are very friendly and thoughtful, we didn't have any problems with them. I took my sister here to take the test twice (she fail the first time here) and our appointment was at 6:15 and the guy arrive 10 mins early than expected. The first time, I had to waited in the cold and one of the instructor offer me to stay warm in the car or the church across the street and they even let us practice our parking skills when its not in use, we are very thankful. I wouldn't mind recommending this to friends and family for future road testing.
Positive experience: Chuck was super nice! He helped me out and made it worth my time even though i failed the parking. I recommend going here!
Thank you Cynthia. I think most of the problem was nerves. We always want people to pass but if they don't we will help fix what ever problem their might be. Just a bit of practice and I know you will pass next time.
Negative experience: My son is a very good driver yet Chuck failed him Saturday. Chuck grabbed the wheel when my son changed lanes & failed him. He claimed my son would have hit the side of a car but the car was clearly behind. I watched the whole thing from directly behind Chuck. It appeared to me Chuck either was startled by the horn of the driver or just wanted to fail my son to get another test. He was aggressive to set up another test next Saturday claiming he had several openings. No Thanks, Bad Business Your response is unbelievable. When I called and tried to discuss the matter you refused to allow me time to talk. Then end up hanging up on me when I finally get a word in. Very Very Bad business here.
I'm sorry you feel that way. Sometimes good drivers make large mistakes. And as we all know it only takes one to hurt or worse kill someone. Your son was doing well up to that point. But the same thing would have happeded if he had run only one red light. I have been doing this for 17 years and it takes a lot to actually have me grab the wheel. If I feel the need to prevent an accident I will grab the wheel. I do not want anyone to fail or damage their vehicle. During that manuver the car in the other lane was even with our rear time. That is much too close to change lanes. We might have hit them. Exspecially if the other driver was not paying attention. That other car did have to brake hard to avoid us. That is why I had to grab the wheel. If you remember, your son did not change lanes well on the expressway either. He pulled in front of a car that was coming up rather quickly on us and that car also blew the horn. I did not grab the wheel then and did not fail him at that time. I resent the notion that I was aggressive to set up another test. I felt that your son did not need to wait and did not need to practice more so I offered him the soonest time I could. If that is being a bad organization then I guess that's what it is. Sorry for trying to get you in as soon as possible.
Negative experience: Chuck (tester/instructor) screamed at me during the test which I felt was inappropriate and unprofessional. "JESUS CHRIST ARE YOU GOING TO BREAK OR NOT?!" He did not give constructive criticism by any definition of the word - very rude. He misconstrued my small talk - me noting that it was the first time I had seen people on the expressway NOT doing 70 (due to the weather), I'm from a small rural town in the U.P. and we don't even have an express way. He took me noting that people were taking caution during a snowfall as saying that I wanted to blast my way down the expressway and do 70.
First of all I never yelled at you and spoke with that language. However you did scare me! Your late braking in winter conditions finally got to me. I had to tell you to stop because I did not feel that we were going to stop safely. I have been doing this a long time and it takes a lot to scare me but you did it. You mentioned that you had not been on an actual expressway before due to the fact that you lived up north. I'm sorry but it showed. You were going too fast for the conditions most of the time and coupled with the last second braking it was not a pleasant or safe drive. I did give you constructive criticism when we finished. I always discuss the positive and negative aspects of the test. It was probably not what you wanted to here and as a result you are not happy with the message or the messenger. Again I did not scream at you are use that language. Try to understand that it is my job to make sure people that pass this test are safe drivers. Most people past the test the first time. You were inexperienced and at the time of the test were not a safe driver.
Negative experience: Terrible tester "Chuck" I would not recommend them to no one, they fail you for a point or 2 to get another road test to pay again. Chuck looks like he is bored and does not want to be at his job. its your word against theirs and the fail you, you do what you learned they say you didn't do it
I' m sorry you had a bad test. But I was not actually your instructor. I will have a talk to the actual instructor. We have been giving road tests for over 16 years and I can assure you we do not fail students on purpose. We make sure they are safe on the road both for themself and others. Again I am sorry if your son or daughter failed.
