Driving Instruction
Our comment from DrivingSchools.Directory about 911 Driving School:
911 Driving School is a highly recommended driving school known for its professional, friendly, and flexible instructors. Many parents have shared positive experiences, noting that their children were able to successfully pass their driving tests after receiving thorough training. The school is praised for its well-organized scheduling and supportive staff, making it easy to plan lessons.
Positive aspects include:
- Professional, polite, and patient instructors.
- Flexible scheduling that accommodates students' needs.
- Good communication between staff and parents.
- Excellent training methods that have helped many students feel confident on the road.
However, there are some concerns regarding customer service at the front desk, particularly with a receptionist who has received negative feedback for her rude demeanor. Several users reported uncomfortable experiences during the driving tests and dissatisfaction with the way some instructors handled students, especially during critical moments of their training. Despite these issues, the overall consensus highlights the effectiveness of the instructors in teaching students the necessary skills to drive safely.
In summary, while there may be occasional challenges, 911 Driving School remains a favored choice for many families looking to provide their children with quality driving education.
911 Driving School: Reviews
Fantastic experience: I have had multiple children successfully pass the program here, and I can’t say enough good things about these folks. They have always been professional, flexible, polite, and patient. I highly recommend the school!
Negative experience: The driving instructor that did the road test was very rude!!!
Fantastic experience: After having such an awful experience with Emily Driving School. It was a delight to work with 911 Driving School. They were very timely, very professional, and pretty much you get what you paid for. We will definitely be using them again.
Fantastic experience: Good service
Negative experience: Went paid for a package driving lessons for a family member not knowing it was already paid for by another family member went back to get a refund on one of the payments keep getting to run around about money back everyday a different excuse from the rude lady at the front desk 475 dollars alot of money get taken by a company giving excuses for refund going have get police dept involved
Fantastic experience: Was extremely happy with my experience just passed my test today and my instructor was extremely nice he explained everything in a great manner and the test was under an hour for my drives I secluded Lou and for my last one I scheduled Benjamin they were both absolutely fantastic at everything
Fantastic experience: Y’all we had such a great experience at this driving school. Everything was easy to set up and the staff were friendly. My daughter had an AWESOME instructor who my child was comfortable with, he goes by the name Mack. I didn’t get any pictures. I do HIGHLY RECOMMEND this driving school.
Negative experience: Terrible Intimidating Experience my student had today after attempting to complete the Driver’s Road test! After completing with a success the Driver’s Education course and Driving road side hours. She was given the ok by her normal Driver’s instructor the ok with a certificate to schedule soon for the Driver’s Exam. The assigned unknown “certified driver instructor” which he put emphasis on his credentials before taking the student out for the road test didn’t show fit to be an instructor for beginners young driving students that are experiencing driving for the first time. His demeanor during the road test was very intimidating, instructions very vague during the exam. Which caused confusion to the beginning driver student. The instructor was giving the student feed back during the exam of her driving errors and flaws before the exam was completed , which already made the student more nervous and driving confidence moral low for even wanting to complete the drivers exam!!! By the time I witnessed my student drive back into the drivers school parking lot.. I could see the Driving Instructor’s hands waving up and down as if to be scolding and reprimanding the beginner student!! This is not the experience any beginner driving student should encounter during practice driving hours or even at an driving road test!! Remember this should be a positive driving learning experience!!! Encouraging the minor student to be safe successful drivers! Not a drill SGT military drivers course !!! My daughter left the car of the instructor flushed red face and crying!! Student didn’t even want step foot back into the school with me to speak with the “certified driving instructor “! Instructor showed no concern or empathy towards student and proceeded in the building not even a motion to me the parent to come in for the results of the exam!!! When I entered into the school the instructor was on the phone for 10 mins showing no acknowledgment that I was waiting for a briefing on the results of my student’s driving test. I had to let the instructor know as the parent I would like to know the results of the exam.. to better prepare my student for a successful retake of the driving test in the future! Again the instructor showed no empathy during delivery of my students results. Interrupted me in mid sentence explaining my concerns as the parent. Abruptly quoted the schools prices for the drivers exam retake and prices for more driving practice hours with an instructor. As if the prices matter at this point after paying in full for the course and exam already! Then had the audacity to ask a personal question on who was the other parent of the student! Again this was terrible intimidating experience no minor student or adult should experience when learning how to drive or taking a road driving test!!!! I hate that my student had to experience this .. I had two students attending the 911 driving school!! I wouldn’t dare put my other student through this the driving exam experience! Remember this was supposed be a positive milestone experience for the student!!! Not a terrifying belittling moment and non encouraging milestone!! Definitely will not recommend this instructor to be assigned to any future beginners students to experience, especially a Driver’s Education Course and Exam that is not FREE! This should have been a positive impact experience for all beginners driving students! The unknown “Certified Driving Instructor” Mr. Jones FAILED this deliverance of representing the mission of the school positively for 911 Driving School !
Fantastic experience: If you have a chance to get Benjamin please do. He’s so polite and so patient and will work with you on whatever you need practice on.
Fantastic experience: Had my first driving lesson and immediately ordered the next one. My instructor was Dale and I got a lot of knowledge and practice, extremely satisfied. Definitely recommend.
Fantastic experience: My son took driving lessons there, and we liked 911 driving school. The scheduling procedures are well organized. Easy to plan classes. My son told me the instructor Mr. Jones was really nice and friendly made him feel at ease. Getting ready to enroll my other son.
Positive experience: I had to give stars to write my comment….OMG After reading the comments… I did not know 911 was this bad, I was going to sign my granddaughter up….now I need to find another Company! I can’t have grown people yelling at my granddaughter while she trying to learn to drive. Comments say Candice is the reason to stay away…Disappointed because I used this company over 10 yrs ago for my now grown daughter. Sad, bc this company and instructors in the past were excellent with my daughter…
Negative experience: They cancel appointments last minute and inconvenienced the parents and students. Beyond disappointed in this driving school especially when you paid all fees in full up front and can not get reimbursed to go to another reliable driving school!..Receptionist showed no care that it was unfair to pay for something upfront then schedule appointments in advance and cancelled out last minute. However, the policy for parents is (Please note, a minimum of 24 hours notice is required if you need to reschedule or cancel an in-car appointment or a $60.00 fee will be applied.) They don’t honor their own policy. In the event they cancel and reschedule!.. She did not even accommodate for another appointment, they expect me to keep my daughter out of school for next available appointments noting is on roster for after school hours M-F. Receptionist has an unpleasantly attitude and unacceptable demeanor! No customer service representative should talk down to paying customers especially when they’re in the wrong! Better Business Bureau will be notified…
I am sorry that you’re disappointed in our service today. The instructor called at 3:00 pm to inform us he was sick and could not make the drive. We attempted to get another instructor to fill in for the sick instructor, but were unable to get a replacement. I understand your frustration especially since this was your first drive with us. There are open time slots available M-F after school hours as early as December 11th, and the drive has been rescheduled December 12th. Again, I apologize for the cancellation.
Fantastic experience: When scheduling regular drives differently go with Louis Migliorino, he is absolutely amazing. I felt extremely comfortable and confident. He definitely made my experience at 911 a 10/10. I will say some of the staff can be a little rude and nonchalant.
Negative experience: Had an experience with teacher Lou in which he was very rude and condescending. Trying to learn to drive is already hard for some people but as someone with anxiety it was not a good experience.
Fantastic experience: Great place to take your kids to get their license, the instructors and staff are highly trained, they are very professionals and they treat you like family, I highly recommend 911 driving school of Columbia , thank you!!
Fantastic experience: I dispise anything that will cause me to spend more money than I have to. The first time I heard about 911 driving school, I was totally against it. I have my CDLs, and I can teach my child better than anyone. Right. Right. I can and did. But they reinforce. Your child has to get those hours in, and having an instructor not only reinforced my training it enhances the experience for you and the student. I say student because your child is a student. They are learning , and I found after each session with 9 1 1 driving my sons driving skills improved, and so did his knowledge. I don't care how many times we worked on left turns and right turns he sucked , he just really really really sucked. He had three 2 - or 3-hour sessions. I had him drive on the highway after one of those sessions for about an hour, and I can say if he didn't have his mouth open the whole time, I would have given him an A+. It was his first time on the highway with me. It's very worth it, and it definitely lowers your insurance.
Negative experience: The front desk lady, Candice, I believe is very rude and not costumer friendly at all. I personally tested with her my first road test and she threw her clipboard in frustration making me very uncomfortable. I highly recommend you do not drive with 911 because of their rude employees.
Negative experience: My son is a new driver and student as most of the students are. Candice the receptionist is very rude and should not be the first person you see leaving your kid with. I asked her, when should I return to pick up my son. She responded it was on the website, granted that is true but you are here for answers and concerns. She continued to be rude and dismissive. I witnessed her be snappy with simple questions.
Negative experience: today when i took my road test, the lady at the front desk was yelling at me and making rude comments about any slight mess up i did when it wasn’t even that big of a deal. i still managed to pass but if you ever happen to get her as your road test instructor, best of luck to you.
Fantastic experience: Great driving school all of my driving instructors helped sharpened my dmv skills . Make sure your able to drive fluently or drive without being assisted everytime . On the day I passed my test I went down to the dmv and was randomly test and still passed 911, is a great driving school.
Negative experience: All my driving instructors was the best I did everything right in all my classes all driving instructors was impressed with my driving for my age. Just when the test came Candice I think that’s her name she sits at the front desk . The instructor lady was so rude making smart comments and smart remarks about everything I definitely just paid for a piece of paper that approved me to drive then the next day went to the SC DMV and passed my test with flying colors. They definitely need someone different to do the test there.
Fantastic experience: Thank you Mr.Bennett Awesome instructor straight forward nice and helpful
Fantastic experience: Easy to deal with and Straight forward. 1 child down. 2 more children to go. Very nice instructors. Thank you Mr Bennet
Fantastic experience: The staff was very professional and my daughter was able to pass her test and get her license. Thank you
Negative experience: So frustrating. Paid for the course for my son and the trainers were wonderful. He did great and they were constantly working on his skills. Told us he would pass with no issue. They did warn him that during the test; they won't talk to him. He ended up testing with the woman from the front desk who seemed nice enough but yelled at him during his test while he was waiting to turn at his own comfort level (which was not hers) - she got annoyed and asked what are you waiting for? Go! Let's remember we need our kids to come home alive and safe so maybe if they want to wait a bit longer; why is that a problem? Then he supposedly failed because he was too far out of the parallel parking space- which she said was an automatic fail. Well we went to another driver training company and he did one training and a drive- passed with flying colors. Was also told unless he hit a cone or curb; he shouldn't have automatically failed- only lose points. They might want to brush up on the point system to not stress out other kids. It's sad too, because the actual trainers are simply wonderful. But this seemed like just a clear attempt to force us to make more money on their students. Check out other driving schools. Many more really care about the kids safety and ability to drive safely for everyone.
Negative experience: The experience was great with the trainers. The experience with the secretary at the front desk was not.
Fantastic experience: My daughter has high anxiety and has been terrified of learning to drive. I taught her some of the basics after attending classroom instruction here because she was terrified of being paired with an instructor for in-car sessions. However, she had her first in-car session today scheduled with George P. He was AMAZING!!! He joked with her at the offset and got her loosened up, talked to her during the drive, showed a lot of patience with her throughout the drive and afterwards with the feedback, and she had a wonderful experience even though he took her through all traffic scenarios she could encounter on the first lesson…including the highway, heavy traffic and even a roundabout! She came back gushing about how great he was and how confident she feels after all of that, and feeling like she was scared for nothing. I can’t say how grateful I am for his caring and considerate nature when dealing with her. He’s truly awesome!! Thanks, George! We can’t wait to continue the remainder of her lessons with you and 911!!
Thank you for the kind words. I will make sure George is informed of your review. Please keep working with your daughter. We look forward to her remaining lessons and making her a safe and responsible driver.
Fantastic experience: I had driving lessons with George Poulin and Antoine Robinson and they are both great instructors! They explained really well and has a lot of patience in teaching. Would recommend this driving school to others.
Thank you so much for the great review. I will pass your kind words on tie George and Antoine.
Fantastic experience: I love this driving school! Instructors are of high qualification. I'm an aging person and never driving before. However I'm driving now after 7 lessons.
Negative experience: The fact that you pay all this money for drivers ed for sessions that apparently went well with every different instructor with my child and still fail the driving test with them shows that the preparedness was not done and taught right. We will not use this service anymore. The staff member that made my daughter feel so nervous and just very mean was Candice Cheek.
Fantastic experience: Went in a took a course then took a road test and passed. Great people. Nice people
Fantastic experience: I’m currently talking 911 Driving school My Instructor Ms. Jazzmyne She is very nice I would Highly Recommend Ms. Jazzmyne to anyone doing Driving Lessons Update: Took my 2nd driving lesson Mr. Earvin Smith Was Very nice and funny he very understanding I would Recommend Ms Jazzmyne or Mr. Earvin Smith
Fantastic experience: 911 driving School was great beginning to end. We enrolled our daughter in their top tier program and they helped her get comfortable despite her medical limitations. Thank you!
Negative experience: Overall I had a great time, my instructor was amazing. But when it came to driving test, I had the most rude, woman ever. She was always making rude remarks during everything I did. I left in tears. My instructor and my family had no problems to my driving but when it came to her I did everything wrong. I know I failed because I messed up, but I do think her comments about my driving did not help at all. She got in my head and I messed up. When yelling at me at one point for being too close to the edge of the road and we were gonna flip..I wasn’t even that close, if anything I was closer to the middle of the road. If you ever have the front lady as your driver test person. Good luck.
Fantastic experience: My daughter took driving lessons with 911 and had an amazing experience! Her instructor, Earvin, was personable, funny, and responsive! He is a wonderful instructor and helped her feel more comfortable and confident behind the wheel! Money well spent!
Negative experience: My experience with this driving school was generally pretty okay. My first driving instructor, Mr. Coleman, was pretty nice and definitely helpful for my first lesson. My second driving instructor, Mr. Curtis, was absolutely amazing, and if you get to choose who to drive with, I absolutely recommend him. He was friendly, funny, personable, and most of all, helpful. So overall, my lessons were pretty good. My driving test, on the other hand, was a different story. I took it this morning and left with tears in my eyes from how awful it was. I consider myself a good driver, especially for being new to the road. None of my previous instructors or my parents had any problems with my driving. So you can imagine how frustrated and upset I was when I was constantly critiqued and reprimanded for every small mistake I made during the test. I didn’t catch her name, but the lady who administrated my test was the most unnecessarily rude and unfriendly woman I’ve ever met. Throughout the test, she would scoff and make small passive-aggressive noises that made me believe I was truly the worst driver in the world. Not only that, but the car I was driving in had the absolute WORST break issues and the gas pedal was so hard to push down that I thought it was broken at first. I asked the lady about it out of concern for both my safety and my results on the test, and she insisted it was just me. What I’m confused about is why my driving is 100% fine in every other car I drive in. In my opinion, adults driving with new drivers should try to be as comforting and kind as possible. This lady stressed me out to the point of tears, and if not for my previously positive experiences, my rating would be a lot lower than two stars.
Fantastic experience: My daughter had a great experience. Her instructor, Earvin Smith, was very professional and helpful. After taking this course, my daughter felt very confident and comfortable while driving, even in the interstate! The price is also reasonable, very good experience overall! I highly recommend it.
Fantastic experience: Could not have asked for a better teen driving experience. They make you feel comfortable and walk you through step by step.My daughter was apprehensive at first but her instructor Jasmine was the BEST and after she completed her 6 hrs she was ready. She took the test with a 911 instuctor, he was very reassuring and made her feel comfortable, she passed on the first try. That process was amazing and well worth it, they gave her the paperwork to take to the DMV. Once at the DMV we were in and out in 15 mins.
Negative experience: Left voice message on Friday B4 closing time. It's now 3 business days later and no return call yet. No answer by phone today so I decide to spend my time to go by there. Candice at desk was fiddling with a gadget (yet she's got unanswered phone messages to return). After stating the nature of my business, I told her about my experience but only recieved an obligatory response of sorry -not sorry. It's funny because it was no problem to run my card for that money but poor customer service. It's the second time I've had the no callback issue. I don't recommended for this reason.
Fantastic experience: I took the defensive driving and 4 point reduction class with Instructor Don and I don’t think I’ve ever attended a class this helpful in my life. He offered total insight on various techniques and skills to help improve my driving experience. I recommend this class to anyone who is looking to for a place to learn in an inviting atmosphere. I had the best time ever.
Fantastic experience: Wonderful driving school. I’ve had driving lessons from different instructors and had great experiences each time. The work staff is very friendly and helpful.
Negative experience: I don't know why they call this a driving school if they expect you to know how to drive before you have an actual lesson. I signed my daughter up to learn be taught the basics of driving before I took her on the road to learn as I did not feel comfortable teaching her. During her first in car lesson she was expected to know how to already drive and being yelled at because of her skill level. When I met with the instructor after her lesson his remarks to me were that she needs more driving time her turns are terrible etc. Um of course they are she doesn't know how to drive that's what I am paying you for. I would not reccommend this "driving school" unless you already know how to drive in which case it would be totally unnecessary.
Negative experience: 911 WANTS TO MAKE YOUR LIFE DIFFICULT AND TAKE YOUR MONEY. RUN FROM THEM AND USE ANOTHER DRIVING SCHOOL. THE OWNER HAS A BAD TEMPER AND ARE TOTALLY UNPROFESSIONAL. SEE HIS REPLY!!!!!!!!!NOT THE STORY WE WERE TOLD BEFORE HE LOST HIS TEMPER. I WAS TRYING TO TEACH MY SON TO ALWAYS, WHENEVER AND WHEREVER, IN A CALM AND PROFESSIONAL MANNER ASK ABOUT AN OUTCOME THAT HE FELT WAS DONE WRONG TO HIM. LIKE WITH 911. THE OWNER DID NOT LIKE BEING QUESTIONED. HE IS COVERING UP WITH A DIFFERENT STORY AS HIS REVIEW SCORES DROP. MANY STUDENTS DON'T WANT TO GO HERE BUT WE PARENTS FEEL ITS CLOSE SO WE GO. DO YOUR CHILDREN THE FAVOR AND GO ELSEWHERE. THEY DO NOT TEACH WHAT THEY TEST. HE CAN BABBLE AND TRY TO COVER HIMSELF AS HE PLEASES. BAD SERVICE WITH A TEMPER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HE OPENLY DISCUSES A MINORS SITUATION. SHOULD TELL YOU SOMETHING!!! WHILE COVERING UP HIMSELF WITH WHAT REALLY HAPPENED - BAD TEMPER, NOT CUSTOMER SERVICE ORIENTED - JUST WANTS YOUR MONEY, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED
Hi K.T.
As the Owner of 911 Driving School, Columbia, I’m sorry to know that you’re disappointed with the experience you had with us. I understand how disappointing it is for a student to re-take a driving exam. As a Licensee of the State of South Carolina, we're obligated to follow a specific set of regulations related to testing. If, on a road test, the customer makes a particular unsafe maneuver requiring the instructor to make an intervention, the state mandates we must automatically disqualify the customer. It is our obligation to our communities and to the state to license drivers who successfully demonstrate legal and safe driving skills.
Fantastic experience: In my experience, Mr. Don and staff were always helpful and reliable. I have recommended them to several friends that have also had great experiences. Once my next kiddo gets ready to start driving we'll be back!
Positive experience: I brought both of my kids here for drivers training and have been satisfied with the classes they received. The owner was very accommodating to my Childs needs. I highly recommend them over any other driving school in the district.
Negative experience: waste of money I had to teach my child everything after paying them for 5 lessons not very nice to deal with either
Negative experience: Awful people. The lady at the front desk thinks that she is queen and nothing can hurt her. The owner has a bad attitude and if you question any thing he will shut you down. Highly recommend COPS.
Ryan, I am sorry that you had an apparent bad experience with us at 911 Driving School. However Ryan I can't seem to find you in our records as to ever being a previous student at 911 Driving School. If there is anything that we can do to remedy the problem please give us a call.
Negative experience: Heard there horrible went somewhere else.
Fantastic experience: My daughter had a great experience!... very professional...
Fantastic experience: Great class with Don! I learned much about driving safely and the class is SCDMV approved. Thank you Don and 911 Driving School!
Fantastic experience: Took the adult point reduction class this past weekend and was highly satisfied. Don was great. He made the class fun and answered all of our questions thoroughly. With his past law enforcement background, he was also able to give us tips and tricks for future tickets and court hearings. I learned a lot more than I thought I would with this class. The price for the class is also by far the lowest I was able to find in the area. Thank you!
Positive experience: The first one nice. the second one not so and he don’t care.
Fantastic experience: Great instructor and very informative. I actually enjoyed my 8 hour defensive driving course.
Fantastic experience: We had a great experience with 911. Very convenient location and easy to work with. The trainers were very nice and professional. We will definitely refer friends!
Fantastic experience: Don is amazing. Took an adult defensive driving course. Class was easy and fun. He gave us all the tips and tricks about our tickets and did not make anyone feel bad at all. Great guy
Zamonii, thank you so much for the review. I absolutely enjoyed this class. You all are the ones who made this class enjoyable.
Negative experience: The customer service is so very poor and terrible I don't even want to post about it.
Negative experience: Gosh! I called just now, and the lady sounded like she just woke up! Anyway, I asked her about driving lessons and it felt like I was having to drag information out of her.....not very professional sounding, even though they claim success etc. Also, they charge a bit more compared to other companies, and they do not pick up or return student back...Disappointed...
Anne
I am sorry that you were disappointed with the service you received today. Our pricing is comparable to other driving schools in the area. Our pricing may be a little higher as compared to some other driving schools but we use all Public Safety / Law Enforcement Officers to teach students and with that expertise comes a higher price tag at times. Our pricing includes the DMV Road Skills Test, which other schools in the area charge up to $75 for just that test in addition to that "lower price" We have no additional costs either. Some school charge a "gas surcharge" if the price of gas rises. Lastly, we DO offer pick-up and drop off service if the student lives within Richland School District 2, which is our primary service area. Again, Iam sorry you were disappointed but the lady who spoke with you today has over 3 years of experience and knows what she is talking about, maybe she is just having a bad day.
Fantastic experience: Professional & courteous driver trainers. I have no complaints, both my children patronized 911 services at different times. The are confident drivers because we got other people beside mom and dad telling them how to drive. If we had more children they would all be going to 911 Driving school.
Dee
We are glad that you enjoyed your experience at 911 Driving School. We hope that the training received will benefit you and your family for a very long time.

Fantastic experience: enough said!
Fantastic experience: its really worth it there all really helpful :) but don't let them distract when your driving keep focus why there talking to you when you do your driving lesson :) but let me tell you its worth it :) and they have a lot of fun with u when your in the 8 hr driving course
Fantastic experience: The 911 Driving School offered a great experience to our entire family. They provided my teen driver with the knowledge and skills to give us the peace of mind to trust him on the road. We were pleasantly surprised with how easy the process was from beginning to end. Our son learned the fundamentals from the best. He was able to easily translate what he learned in the classroom to staying safe on the roadways. With my son's crazy school schedule, we were nervous that scheduling would be difficult. However, scheduling his practice drives and even his driving test were extremely convenient with 911 Driving School. In fact, our son was among the first to participate in third party testing with the school. This allowed him to take his driving test at the best time for him - not necessarily during standard work hours. He was able to take his paperwork to the DMV and walk out with his license the next day. We are proud to have a confident skilled teen driver that has learned how to drive the right way from Columbia's finest.
