D & D Driving School is one of the most established and well respected driving schools in Ohio. D & D was founded in 1952 by Mr. Donald E. Austin, a pioneer in driver training. In 1992 Sharon Fife, Donald's daughter, assumed control of the business and has continued its excellence in the driving industry. Sharon's extensive knowledge, training and expertise is sought by both local and national publications and media.
Our comment from DrivingSchools.Directory about D&D Driving School:
D&D Driving School is renowned for its dedicated instructors and effective teaching methods. Many users have praised the school for its respectful and understanding staff, who make students feel safe and confident during their driving lessons. In particular, instructors like John, Trish, and Sharon have been highlighted for their excellent teaching abilities and supportive approach. Parents express satisfaction with the overall experience and appreciate the convenience of online classes, which allow students to learn at their own pace.
Despite the positive feedback regarding instructors and class content, there are notable downsides that potential clients should consider. Complaints about rude customer service, particularly during scheduling calls, have surfaced, causing frustration for several parents. Additionally, long waiting times for driving sessions have been reported, with some users mentioning waiting lists of up to eight weeks.
Overall, while D&D Driving School offers valuable lessons and helpful instructors, improvements in customer service and scheduling processes would undoubtedly enhance the experience for all students and their families.
D&D Driving School: Reviews
Fantastic experience: I am 23 years old and took driving lessons here to start driving. The instructors were incredibly respectful and understanding, and I did not feel uncomfortable or unsafe one bit. After years of driving anxiety, I felt so much safer and confident on the road after taking classes and lessons here. Although whoever does the scheduling over the phone, very rude. I hated making phone calls here because of how rude and snarky the lady would be on the phone.
Negative experience: My son went through all the classes - then we found out the waiting list to drive with an instructor is 8 WEEKS. Was told refund and going elsewhere was not an option.
Fantastic experience: My 16 year old son loves this place. Highly recommend.
Fantastic experience: my 16 year old told me to give 6 stars the office gives clear information, answers the phone, replies quickly to email, online classes were easy/convenient to schedule, instructors picked my kid up from school...on and on it was worth the cost to us, my kid told me a lot of info they covered was on the test....his instructor even took him on the drive test route. 10/10
Fantastic experience: This review is specifically for Sherry, best driving instructor of all time. Passed my test with flying colors, love you queen.
Fantastic experience: I have no clue how the rating for this place is higher?! The staff are kind and care about you and actually try and teach you as much as possible and use resources that work. Highly recommend.
Fantastic experience: Learned a lot about driving for the first time. Shout it to Jess that taught me how to do everything right and tricks to help me with
Negative experience: Absolutely ridiculous to charge 550.00 for driving school. Then get the rudest people in the world to help You. I will not ever recommend this place it is a rip off and the lady in there is beyond mean . Find another school
Fantastic experience: I’m so thankful for this school. Thankful for Sharon who got me in for a few drives with an instructor, when I was losing all hope because no one else I called would take me right now because I’m an adult. I owe so much to her. I’m thankful for John, my driving instructor. He has helped me so much through this process. I’m 29, and my biggest fear has been passing this driving test to get my license, and I’ve been putting it off for so many years. John has been so helpful and kind and supportive and encouraging. I took my test today and passed! It’s such a huge relief off my shoulders and I just could not have been as successful without this school helping me. Elizabeth has been so lovely as well during my phone calls with her. I have learned so much and I’m just so glad I went through Kettering D&D.
Negative experience: Do not let your kids learn how to drive from this company, especially from the instructor that drives the burgundy Toyota Camry. He drives like a psychopath. Speeding, weaving through traffic, and driving on the shoulder at a high rate of speed are just a few of the things I witnessed.
Negative experience: SAVE YOUR MONEY!!! If I knew I was going to pay $550 for my daughter to drive with me more than with her instructor I would have chosen a different school!!! WHAT AN UNBELIEVABLE WASTE OF MONEY!!!
Fantastic experience: Trish is one of the best teachers I’ve ever had, helped me pass my test first time! Office is very efficient, make sure you know what you’re calling for and it’ll go smoothly. Wait for online and driving classes was minimal and I got them done quickly.
Fantastic experience: Great customer service.
Negative experience: Took my daughter's $50 and ran. After deciding to go a different direction for our driving school for various reasons, one being difficulty working with this school, we requested to have the $50 refunded to us since she hadn't gone to any of the classes or done any of the driving yet. Both over the phone to my daughter and to me in person we were very bluntly told " That's not my problem. You signed the contract and the contract says we don't owe you anything." I would not recommend this place to anyone unless you have nowhere else to go. And if you choose this place, make sure you never change your mind.
Fantastic experience: Thank you Ron for everything
Fantastic experience: D & D driving school was excellent teaching my son how to drive, from office staff, to instructors, I could not be happier. I feel confident sending my son out on his own, but more importantly my son is confident with the skills he learned from Trish at D & D. I really appreciate the extra drives my son was able to do at a very reasonable price. I will definitely use D & D driving school when my other sons start driving and I highly recommend D & D!
Positive experience: Not completed with course yet. So far it has been going well for my son.
Negative experience: The worst customer service ever. I regret that I have already started the process for my son to go thru them. I called to ask a simple question about the whole process, and the person didn't have a clue on how to answer my question and would not even try to get help from someone else. Horrible.
Fantastic experience: Great job on the in-car instruction done by Charles with my son! Very happy with his training! He passed his license test on the 1st attempt.
Negative experience: Very poor administration, they say they will call you but don’t expect and please look for another school, it’s been several months of waiting and still whenever we call they say same line “eight students before you”.
Fantastic experience: D&D is phenomenal. You can choose in person or zoom classes to work with your schedules. At first I was hesitant about my daughter taking the zoom classes but I can tell you the zoom classes are great! They hold the kids accountable and are strict with rules on paying attention. Both of my kids went to D&D and had a great experiences. I even paid extra to have the instructors pick my kids up and take them to their drivers Ed exam. It included and hour lesson and they used the drivers Ed car for the test. Sharon, an owner is top notch!
Negative experience: I will be contacting the Attorney General&BBB about these theft this business insist on committing. Elizabeth(ower)is refusing to refund my deposit for 1 online class my son took. Elizabeth said it was in the contract *that I never signed* thus I agreed to nothing. Was my card/my personal money taken? YES! PSA they have a little over 3stars for a reason! Almost like there's a monopoly in the entire matter. Almost the only driving school around for minors. Not that the BBB will do any good but I will try. Fact is businesses $buy$ their way into that anyway. I know business owners&people talk.
Positive experience: UPDATE: My son took his driver's test today, and failed the maneuverability portion. More time def. needs to be spent on (what everyone knows), is the hardest part of the test to pass. ORIGINAL REVIEW: My son completed all his classes via Zoom, which was super convenient. He loved his driving instructor, "Bob", who was also the the instructor who did most of his zoom classes. Everyone was always VERY friendly and responsive whenever I called with questions. My only two complaints are: 1) He had to wait about 4 months to begin his driving portion. And 2) There are only 4, 2hr driving sessions, and only a part of one driving session was spent on maneuverability. I think more time should have been spent on maneuverability, due to this being the most difficult portion of the on road exam to pass. I went in, and was able to get his certificate of complexion in just a few minutes, which I really appreciated! I will update this review once he completes his drivers' exam.
Negative experience: This place is awful. The office staff is alright; Elizabeth was always helpful. Other than that, though, I highly do not recommend going here!! The online lessons are not helpful in any way, and instead were extremely anxiety inducing to my child. Most of the instructors of those lessons are rude on top of it! The driving instructor Ron always went extremely over time, even when we made it clear we had other activities and practices to go to. He didn’t teach my child anything, and instead just yelled at her for the things she didn’t know. He was extremely insensitive when she was struggling on the maneuverability section, and said she was trying to fail on it to defy him. He overall caused my child more stress over driving, and instead of helping her, he just made her think she was doing everything wrong. I’ve heard that the other instructors are just as bad. This place is a huge waste of money and your children don’t deserve to be yelled at and belittled for for everything they do which, not to mention, is entirely new to them! I completely do not recommend!
Fantastic experience: We had a really great experience here and my son REALLY learned a lot with the driving instructor Jeff. He took his time and gave back such great notes on things to work on as well. I really appreciate the time and effort he put forth in working with him AND getting to know him and understand how my son operates. Hopefully Jeff is around when my daughter starts driving. The zoom classes were nice as he could take the classes after school and at his own pace. I had nothing but great interactions with the office staff and they really helped navigate everything and got my son in when everyone else was booked out for a year.
Negative experience: My wife's son who was 19 at the time was told they only take teenagers for driving lesson's. Called a few weeks later and they offer adult driving lessons and he went driving but, called today and they only take teenagers.
Positive experience: Best in town...
Negative experience: The driving instructor barb was unprofessional!!!! She was so aggressive and has horrible teaching skills… she was very rude and had slick comments during the driving session, she’s a micro manager, she tends to wonder off while she’s supposed to be instructing the driving lesson. She said “ I was going to leave comments but it seems like you’re in a hurry “ and I said because you’re being rude, I remained respectful until I was getting out the car… She needs to be fired and needs her license revoked! If you plan on coming her request anybody else but BARB. She also took 30 minutes of my time to talk instead of driving… my mom didn’t pay $120 for me to have a disrespectful, unprofessional, micro managing instructor. I talked to Sharon and she was very understanding about the situation and was very helpful. Barb needs to take a few people skill lessons as well as some driving lessons herself and communication skills, had me turning at the last minute, and had me ready to hurt her feelings.
Negative experience: While my son LOVED the driver instructor and classes. The office staff and communications were terrible. VERY Rude phone calls, unorganized answers and communications all lead to a BAD experience and not sure if with our second child we will use D&D.
Fantastic experience: Great instructors. Nice helpful and friendly people.
Fantastic experience: Wasn't too bad, teacher kept it entertaining
Negative experience: The only positive was the driver, Al. I had to cancel her test because after 9 days I STILL DONT HAVE HER CERTIFICATE. They then tell me I have to take off work. Drive and hour. Pay 15.00 drive an hour home....because THEY can't tell me why I don't have it. They are disorganized. Rude. Lazy and i highly regret dealing with them. Save the headache.... wheelers and AAA are much easier and better to deal with.
Negative experience: This place is incredibly slow and unorganized. I have to tell them what to do every time I call, they missed appointment times and got them wrong, and we really only got put on the list for driving after waiting 6 months and then calling to complain. If there was another option I would have gone that way.
Fantastic experience: Had a great experience with D&D, easy classes with valuable driving information. Larry made in car driving fun while also being professional and knowledgeable.
Negative experience: Go here only if you are willing to wait an insane amount of time for your in car driving instruction.
Negative experience: Kinda boring but got the job done
Negative experience: We have been trying to get driving school completed since June. There was an issue where she took too many classes in one day and then had to retake one because it didn’t count. That’s onus, but after 2 failed attempts at the written test, she had to retake another class because of the same reason. They should have caught that in the first place!!! She took the written test for the 4th time 2 weeks ago and it’s still not graded. Seriously? Also, she was told that her in car would be delayed until August due to COVID. That’s understandable, however, it’s now November. She needs to get her license before her temps expire. This is absolutely ridiculous. If I hadn’t paid in full up front, we would’ve changed schools a long time ago.
Fantastic experience: This place is awesome!!! If I could give D&D Driving School 10,000 stars I would. They really work with you and they bend over backwards to make the customer happy. I wouldn't choose any other driving school to go through. 10/10 recommend.
Fantastic experience: I have 3 kids that took their driving classes at D&D. We were very happy with the instructors.
Fantastic experience: John is the nicest instructor there. I have a lot of friends who used d&d and they all hated their instructors, whereas John acts more like an old friend and treats you as such.
Fantastic experience: Loved my experience! Very informative and educational. The instructors are very friendly and help you adapt good habits and practices. I 100% recommend D&D
Fantastic experience: Great driving school and both my instructors Sharon and Bob are great in teaching and fun to be around
Negative experience: So far the customer service is poor and awful. Just calling in they are incredibly rude and act as if you're bothering them by trying to schedule things. Almost didn't even book an appointment. There is may one nice, competent person who works there, but it seems like everyone else are just snarky old birds who hate their life. If you want people to treat you like a person, do not go here.
Negative experience: Meh, this school is definitely below average at best, the teachers spend more time in the back while you watch a video than actually teach. It also takes years to start your driving classes. I would not recommend
Fantastic experience: I went here and no complaints!
Fantastic experience: My son asked me to write a review because he wants to recommend this Driving school. Student takes 2 hours x 12 classes which made me worry for my son to fall asleep during the class. My son said class was too fun and no way to fall asleep. I appreciate to the instructors to make the class interesting. His favorite instructor was Dale but he said all the instructors are fun. He still haven’t take driving practice yet but I hope it will continue well.
Fantastic experience: Great staff that is focused on teaching the fundamentals and skills of driving and not just giving you some tricks to make you feel like you've learned.
Negative experience: Total waste of $$. Instructor didn't teach my daughter any maneuverability skills. Said she didn't believe in "tricks" but gave no instruction other than "look down the middle; don't watch the cones. After daughter failed the manuev. part of the test I showed her some youtube videos and we practiced and she passed. Worthless!
Fantastic experience: They saved my life, and they can save yours too!
Positive experience: Wonderful staff
Fantastic experience: They are quick and easy
Negative experience: They don't do there job n keep messing up my appointments
Negative experience: Reading Rhonda's comment... it's exactly our situation! VERY unorganized! My husband heard the instructor YELLING at the kids! My husband said he felt like he was on "what would you do" tv show! Don't make the mistake we made go elsewhere!!
Negative experience: Instructor was incredibly rude and inconsiderate. 2 hours into the class I was asked go leave for checking the time on my phone. Even though 3 other people in the class had been previously asked to put their phones away when they were actually using their phones. I didn't even unlock mine and was asked to leave. I work 55 hours a week and have 3 children so opportunities to take the class are limited. I know that most that take a remedial class are required to but that is not my case. I chose D & D to spend my $90 and take the class and was treated like they were paying me. Ridiculous
Negative experience: Customer Service is poor. Organization seems to be SLOW! my son has been waiting two weeks for his completion certificate. When I called, they put me on hold for a long while then came back and advised "we need to find his file. Can we call you back?" My son has had to cancel his driving test twice because we still have not gotten certificate. GRRRRR so frustrating for a sixteen year old to wait over two weeks for a piece of paper. Bad for a driving school to be so inconsiderate during this important event in a teenagers life! He completed his last in car driving 5/21. Paperwork was not submitted internally at D&D until 5/26.... 5 days! then the certificate wasn't mailed til 5/28... another two days! so they say which is doubtful because it 6/2 and we STILL do not have final completion certificate!!!! Do not recommend this school. Very disappointed in their offices lack of customer service. Again, last in car was 5/21. It is 6/2 and he still is not able to get license!!!! I feel horrible for my son who really is being so patience during this awful experience. Wish I would have seen these reviews before hiring D&D. don't do it. This should be a happy time for your teenager. I agree with other reviews that their attitude is very rude!
Negative experience: Very rude and disrespectful tbe driver was late 20 to 25 mins late and acted like he didnt care they did refund mt money back tho but it was a waste of time
