Scott, in particular, is noted for his thorough preparation and effective mentoring, helping students pass their driving tests on the first attempt.
  • Helpful Online Classes: The online classes are recognized for being informative and well-organized, making it easier for students to absorb critical driving information.

Fantastic experience: This class was perfect for my daughter. Jeremy my daughter's instructor made the process go smoothly. With our 50 hrs of practice and driving classes at first to learn my daughter was successful in getting her license on her first try. I would highly recommend first learn to drive.

Negative experience: i took this course and i got jeremy as my instructor for my drives. at the time, i didn't know if it was the whole company or just jeremy that was causing me to have a bad experience, but for my final drive i drove with barbara and then i knew that it was jeremy. everything in this review is purely objective and based on my experience. he taught informational but very boring online zoom classes, where i really did not learn anything. he loved to mention that he was 'a big guy' and that he was 6'10" which for me, a sixteen year old girl, immediately caused me to worry about my own safety. *i was NEVER actually in an unsafe environment, that's just how i felt* in class, he bribed us to write reviews in exchange for final test answers. i wrote one, that was not fully honest, so here is my honest review. he also read some of the bad reviews for him to us, and just said things like "well, i'm not here to be your friend" but he genuinely did not teach me what he should have. when it came to in-person drives, he was not a good teacher. he gave absolutely no positive feedback and only told me what i was doing wrong. that made me extremely stressed and overall caused my driving performance to be worse. i do not perform well under pressure and jeremy did not make that easier for me. when i took my final drive with barbara, i was immediately off the deep end because, surprise, jeremy did not teach me any of the things i actually needed to know to pass the final. he never once had me practice reversing, parking, what to do before you get into the vehicle, how to use the headlights or even how to start the ignition. when i was in the car with barbara, in performed better than i ever have simply because she created a calm and supportive environment, unlike jeremy. i left every drive with him feeling like i was a terrible driver and would never pass. overall, i'm very thankful that i got to do my final with someone who was not jeremy. if barbara is reading this, thank you!! you turned a bad experience into a much better one. if jeremy is reading this, do better. we all know you aren't there to be our friend, but that gives you no excuse to not teach us the content needed to pass the final. and please stop mentioning your height; it gets old fast. i hope you see this as constructive criticism, although you never gave me any.

Positive experience: this is a great course if you want to get better at driving. the instructors are very good, i got jeremy just as a warning he is not being paid to be your friend, he is being paid to make you a safer driver so he will be very blunt with you. but over all great program.

Fantastic experience: 1st Learn to Drive Clackamas is money well-spent! We were so fortunate to have SCOTT KEFGEN for our son’s driving instructor. Scott, reportedly the company’s most popular instructor, happens to be a real K-12 teacher who applies the same principles and modes of classroom teaching that makes for effective learning behind the wheel. He came armed with lecture notes and lesson plan that he discussed with us parents before starting. He also evaluated our son’s driving for every lesson, giving him some homework driving and advice until the next session to improve on areas that he learned that day. He earned the trust and confidence of our son from the very first lesson up to the review before the DMV driving test. Scott never dropped the ball and delivered exactly what he said he would each time. He also was honest and did not try to stretch teaching for more sessions when he believed our son did not need more lessons to pass the test. The result is proof of Scott’s excellent mentoring: our son passed the DMV driving test with words of praise from the tester - on the first take!!! I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND 1st Learn to Drive Clackamas with no reservations. Thank you so much, Scott!!!

Positive experience: When I first found out that my mom signed me up for driving lessons, I was not looking forward to it. I felt like I didn't need it because I have always been a fast learner and thought I could figure it out on my own. However, as I have been learning more driving information, I am glad that my mom is having me do this. But it is not easy. Sitting through 2 hour zoom classes 2 times a week is not fun. Also, during the drives, it can be stressful and hard not to want to quit. I have autism and ADHD, and that makes it hard for me to learn things and focus and not get offended. However, I am learning that no one is trying to hurt your feelings. My driving instructor Jeremy is a nice guy, but is very honest and is blunt. If you did something wrong, he tells you. He doesn't really give encouragement, but that is just how he is. And the other people involved in the school are very helpful, if you have extra questions they are more that happy to help you. Over all, I say it is a very good driving school. I recommend!

Positive experience: Overall the course is a good option to learn to drive well. However, the class can be slow at times and and is really time consuming and boring to take. If you want to learn to drive really well and are willing to commit to the tedious program then it is a really good option.

Fantastic experience: I came to drivers ed with a pretty solid understanding about a lot of the different aspects of driving, but even so drivers ed was an extremely valuable resource going over the basics again, and relearning things with more accuracy. Jeramy is very scary in the beginning especially but a very good teacher.

Fantastic experience: On some of these reviews, people put stress on Jeremy but he's there to protect you. Don't give any of the instructors a hard time. If your cool with Jeremy he's cool with you.

Positive experience: Our teen completed the driving course in May and passed the driving test on May 21. The course was fine. The teachers were fine. So far, so good. The problem started once the course was complete. A big selling point of the company was that you would receive a waiver for the DMV driving test by passing the course driving test. We should receive a driving test waiver in the mail in one to two weeks; we could then take the waiver to the DMV to bypass the DMV drive exam. After waiting two weeks and having received nothing in the mail, I called and emailed the company. I received a call back and was told that some waivers had just gone out in the mail. The person was going to verify with another employee that my teen's waiver was included and would then call me back. No response. I called again one week later (three weeks after the driving test). After several attempts someone called back a couple of days later and said that our son's waiver had been mailed the day before. They said we should call back in one week if it did not arrived. Yesterday marked one more week, and we still had not received the waiver. Multiple calls yesterday and today, but there has been no reply and no waiver. To say that I am disappointed is putting it mildly. The lack of communication or effort to solve the problem is completely unacceptable. No one on staff has sent apologies by either phone or email. At this point, my teen could have been driving solo for several weeks, but instead a parent is still required. I do hope there will be a better ending. Still waiting.

Fantastic experience: This experience feels more personable than intimidating, my instructor Wyatt is the best!! He always remains calm and patient while clearly stating instructions.

Fantastic experience: I got an appointment in under a week for a drive test. That day I took my drive test and took the paper to the DMV to get my license. It cost a bit more than the DMV but Craig is a professional. I would use this service again.

Zachary Olson 3 years ago

Fantastic experience: Scott, in a 2 hour lesson you taught me all the things I needed to know about lane position, parking parallel to the curb, and common vs test-compliant driving. i passed my drive test the next week with a 97 (accidentally pulled into a crosswalk, but it happens ). Thanks so much, I’m telling all my non-driving friends where to go!

Positive experience: I am in the Milwaukee class and have Jeremy as my instructor. The classes are long but useful information is covered. Jeremy seems to have a story about everything covered. Jeremy is a good instructor but he is not there to be friendly and he makes that clear from the beginning. There is little positive reinforcement but he is always very honest.

Charlotte Trolan 3 years ago

Positive experience: these driving lessons are very useful. instructor Jeremy seemed very scary at first but was very helpful and a good teacher. These lessons are very helpful if you are willing to learn and ready to do things differently. The online classes are hard to focus on but easy to sit through. I recommend this course to everyone needing to learn.

Tatum Herrick 3 years ago

Positive experience: Before going into driver's ed, I was barely comfortable enough to leave a parking lot. Going through this program has definitely helped me be more comfortable and a safer driver. It will feel like things are going realities fast, but as long as you drive outside of driver's ed, you will be fine. The only reason I wouldn't give 5 stars is because the Zoom calls can be very difficult to focus on, though I understand this is mostly out of their control.

Emmett McNeely 3 years ago

Positive experience: The overall experience was very good. If you are a good driver than I don't think that it is absolutely necessary to take the class, but it still teaches very valuable lessons that you would not have learn if you do not take this class.

Toby Haus 3 years ago

Positive experience: Jeremy is a nice guy if you know what he is there for. he is not there for you to be his friend, he will tell you if you need to work on something because he is making you a better driver.

Grant Wiese 3 years ago

Positive experience: Yah the experience wasn’t very difficult. I enjoyed having Jeremy as my instructor. He was straight to the point and corrected you correctly. Don’t be intimidated he’s just good at his job is all. I feel like I got better at driving and learned new things.

Positive experience: The class is informative and put-together, and the instructor is straightforward and doesn’t waste any time. Overall I’ve learned a lot and it had been a very helpful class.

Fantastic experience: Jeremy was my online class and drive instructor. He's a good instructor and he helped me learn how to drive safely. I liked his funny voices he made during class. Overall it was fun!

kendra renee 3 years ago

Negative experience: If your desperate and this is your only option take the class but if you have other options do those options. I often felt very uncomfortable. the instructor said “I make too much money too have any accusations” he said this after he said that if you aren’t comfortable taking a in person drive lesson alone with him you’d have to pay for a makeup lesson if you didn't want to drive with him alone. I often felt uneasy and anxious with him.

Avery 3 years ago

Fantastic experience: Jeremy keeps it real with the students and makes class fun at the same time. As close as you can get to very solid driving instruction and fun in the same class (at the appropriate time). Jeremy’s voice acting is 5 star as well;)

Fantastic experience: Admittedly, I was a bit concerned about my choice to book with 1st Learn to Drive, as a friend I work with had told me of an adverse interaction with this organization. I had already paid for the package of several lessons and had used this company in years past so I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. I am so glad I did! I received a phone call in short order after having had some difficulty scheduling through the online platform. Hayden called back and I was able to schedule all of the lessons in the one phone call. Fast forward to lesson day. I had instructor Scott. The first thing I noticed off the bat was that he was on time and well prepared. He had taken the initiative to have a packet of information ready for me with details on safety and highlights from the Oregon Drivers Manual that were specific areas of focus for the DMV evaluation. He was pleasant and constructive in his honest feedback. I was able to ask questions and take direction from him in a comfortable and safe format that made learning to drive an empowering, educational experience. We worked on the areas that I had difficulty and drilled them until I could drive with confidence. When I identified the date and location of my drive test, Scott made it a point to have me drive in the area so that it felt familiar on test day. Suffice it to say, this was a fantastic, safe, learning experience for me and I passed my DMV test with a 96%. I feel extremely positive about this company and would absolutely recommend them to anyone needing to learn from a pro. - Thanks Scott & the 1st Learn To Drive Team for helping me get over this hurdle! - Warm Wishes, Lisa Adza

Positive experience: Jeremy was a very nice instructor. He was honest, but never too harsh. Honestly, the office itself wasn't fantastic, they took a very long time to reply to emails and messages, if at all and that was very frustrating when trying to schedule makeups. They were helpful when they did respond, however. The course was very thorough and I appreciated Jeremy's attention to detail.

Aspen Humphries 4 years ago

Positive experience: Jeremy is a pretty great instructor. Two hour classes online can be kind of difficult to focus on although reviewing with concept quizzes helps to remember and retain information. The drives are very helpful it takes a while to get comfortable with Jeremy because he feels a little intimidating at first though he's a really nice person and is fun to talk to. Overall I've had an enjoyable experience in this program and would certainly suggest others to take it.

Wendy Audie 4 years ago

Negative experience: Taught my son to drive, but left him hanging after the class and passing the drive test. Absolutely no follow through and left us in the lurch. He has already taken and passed all the tests, but he is stuck without a driver's license because the 1st Learn to Drive office can't get their act together to send the waiver card as proof for the DMV. So frustrating!!! Terrible communication and organization, impossible to reach anyone. We were told they would mail the card out 2 weeks after the test, but it has been almost 3 months, and still no word or proof. They are not returning my calls or e-mails. Very unprofessional, and terrible waste of time. My son can't get his license until they help us.

Positive experience: Online classes are very informative and easy to follow. All the instructors are very understanding and good at instructing. I would recommend this class.

Brynn Kirkham 4 years ago

Negative experience: The instructors were all nice, but the communication and customer service of this company is awful. I wanted to reschedule a drive so I emailed and called a week advance, it took multiple days to get a response. It’s an unnecessarily difficult task to reach out or receive feedback from their company. (They charge you if you miss a drive) So I went through my week preparing to pay the extra fee even though I used all of their listed forms of communication with no response. My drive times and instructors were repeatedly changed/replaced on the schedule to the point where it became incredibly stressful and confusing to start my lessons. I had my 3rd lesson scheduled on the same time and weekday as my previous lessons (I double checked the schedule to be sure) I show up for my drive 10 minutes early, and my instructor never arrives. Overall, this company has fine teachers, but lacks in professionalism and responsiveness.

Positive experience: Jeremy was my class instructor. Overall a good class and I'm glad I took it: I feel like a much safer driver than I would be without it. However, sometimes class moves slightly slow but then outside work seems improperly challenging.

Fantastic experience: Pretty fun online lessons! Was easy to fit into my schedule, and Jeremy was a good, reasonable critic of my driving. He also has pretty killer voice impressions. I would really recommend this drivers ed course, especially for busy students who want to become safer drivers.

Iva Borrello 4 years ago

Positive experience: I wasn’t expecting to actually like drivers Ed at all but it was pretty fun! I think it’s all about the teachers level of enthusiasm. Jeremy was a very enthusiastic teacher. One frustrating thing was navigating the technology. Signing up for drivers Ed and using the canvas app at first was super confusing but after the first week I got it down. I really enjoyed driving with Jeremy because he’s super funny and we had great convos about Bitcoins!!

Cody Alan 4 years ago

Positive experience: Overall, the class was informative and lent itself well towards achieving its goal of making safe drivers for the future. Fantastic experience: I'm so glad I took lessons its a bit intimidating learning to drive on the opposite side from where I am from but I had good instructors. My first lesson I had with Scott and he covered everything on what to look out for on my driving test I learnt so much in 1 lesson. Then on my other lesson I had Randy and I had learnt alot too so it was good experience and I would definitely recommend this company

Positive experience: 1st Learn To Drive was very helpful and helped me break bad habits. I learned a lot about how to be a safe driver.

Logan Gough 4 years ago

Negative experience: Randy is really cool and nice. I had him as an instructor before he left and after that i just got random instructors, and it was especially bad because the kid I was paired with was kicked out of the class. Jeremy is terrible, he was telling me the whole time that I was so far behind the rest of the class and he had no idea if I’d be able to catch up. Now, I’d gotten really good scores on every drive except for that one. He was also our instructor in class, and he once told the class about his experience with me without naming any names, but it was too specific to not be talking about me. Also, he said that “when children are present” signs don’t apply when there’s only one child. Like man, what?

Positive experience: Update 1/26: We finally received our daughter’s waiver card and were able to get her drivers license. I have adjusted our rating to reflect that we were satisfied with the content and instruction, but would have appreciated better communication. Original review: We appreciated a lot about 1st Learn to Drive. My daughter benefitted greatly from the classes and drive time. She passed her final drive the first week of November, yet we are still waiting on the waiver card she needs to get her official license. We were told it was sent but we never received it. Apparently, another effort was made to get one, and it’s been more than 3 weeks. We followed instructions to communicate via Canvas which has been satisfactory, but we would love to talk with someone in person to iron this out.

Evgenia Bogdanova 4 years ago

Negative experience: Owner replied to my review with absolute lies. First of all, we NEVER (!!!!) “insisted” that my daughter will take the course for insurance purposes! YOU called me with misrepresented information and offered to sign her up for teen course , even though she was already 18, because ODOT/DMV rules changed during pandemic so that she will received waiver card! I never called you and insisted on anything, your associate Natalie, called me and left me a voice message, which I still have, offering that option with teen course and waiver card. If she was incompetent and misrepresented information, you as an owner need to take a responsibility on, instead of saying that she is not working for your organization anymore (I cannot name it “school” ).What I wanted from you is to take a responsibility for your employees and return my money for the services that were misrepresented, instead of saying “she is not working anymore, so I don’t care”. Secondly, Why are you lying on public that I do not drive ? I have my OR drivers license since 2009, drive every day, never got in car accident and do not have any single ticket! Why are you so easily misrepresent information? Original post: I wish I can give them a zero star review as others suggested. I have a long story to share, but in a few words - this is a fraudulent business running by a person who will not take a responsibility for his incompetent employees. Please stay away! Here is the full story. I tried to sign up my daughter for teen program when she was in a High School, but I was told that she is not qualified because she will turn 18 before the completion of the program. We received full refund from them and we were looking for other options to get drivers license during COVID -19 times. Three month later this organization called me with a “Good News!” Type of message informing me that ODOT/ DMV has temporarily changed their rules due to pandemic so now my daughter can participate in teen program and she will get a driving test waiver card upon completion of the program. Getting a driving test waiver card was very important for us because at that time it seemed to be the only way to get a drivers license. We agreed and signed up. Once my daughter completed the course and passed driving test, we were told in multiple emails from this company that waiver card was already issued and sent over to us. We didn’t receive when expected, followed up on this, and were told again that the card is issued and sent to us. It lasted for two months, and yesterday all the sudden we received “By the way... Unfortunately...” sort of message from them that “per our agreement” (which we never did) she will not be receiving waiver card, but will receive some sort of certificate that will only work for certain insurance. What the hell going on?? Are you serious?!?! We waited six months for that card , counted on this, trusted you, and now all the sudden she is not even eligible? I called Mike, the owner, and instead of simple apology, I has been provided with some educational moments when he tried to lecture me about the importance of driving school. This school misrepresented its services, provided wrong information regarding DMV driving test, and waisted our time while lying about the card that they already sent. The owner was very rude commenting “Good for you! “ with high level of sarcasm on all my questions and concerns, refusing to get me a refund for misrepresented services. And finally he stated: “Go and find a school for her - no one will take her because she is an adult! “ is this an appropriate answer to a frustrated parent? Shame on you, the owner. You are stealing money from devastated parents and teenagers while those are trying to get a drivers license during this frustrating pandemic times,. Please, stay away ! The owner will not take responsibility for his incompetent employees and will run out from the problems by blocking your phone and not answering emails. Shame on you, Mike! Shame on you! I will celebrate the day when I find out you are out of business!

Fantastic experience: I can only say good things about my experience with 1st Learn To Drive and Jeremiah, my instructor. The communication with both was super efficient and fast. My instructor was very professional, staying fully aware of traffic hazards and giving me helpful tips to safely get around the city while being super fun at the same time. I had such a laugh during my lessons that I got completely relaxed and confident about my driving! I truly believe that this was the key factor for me to improve quickly. I'd definitely recommend Jeremiah and 1st Learn To Drive as a driving school!

Fantastic experience: Christian is a great driving instructor! He is very informative, friendly, and calm. When I drove on the freeway with him (for the first time ever) I wasn't nervous at all. He plays relaxing/focusing music which is nice. 5 stars :) Steve has been my classroom instructor for the majority of the program and he was informative, down to earth, and energetic. I learned a lot. 5 stars. I had Jeremy for several drives, and I just didn't click with him. He was silent for the majority of the drives, and only spoke to give directions or to point out what I did wrong. I am a sensitive person and hate criticism, so I learned fast in order to avoid it from him. I guess that's a positive. 2.5 stars

Positive experience: Nice place full of nice people. The lessons were informative and entertaining. The drive times with Jeremy were very constructive, and I learned a lot about driving in the end. All of this is true, but I do have some problems once finished with the course. One of my biggest concerns is the bribery of the students to write five star reviews of the course and in exchange we recieved a small amount of cash. This bugged me as I would already have rated them 4 stars, but this shady practice lowered my respect of the establishment. ps. Andrew was one of the best teachers I have had my entire life. His engaging teaching style made each lesson bearable early on a Sunday morning.

Fantastic experience: I had a wonderful time in drive times with randy and I met some really incredible students. Can’t wait to get my license.

Negative experience: This place is a joke. Dont waste your time/money as i spent literally hours trying to contact someone. No one has ever gotten back to me as the stupid woman's ( Liz) answering machine picks up.
