Fantastic experience: Absolutely wonderful experience. Five stars all the way and that's not just for customer service, the ownership is beyond genuine and so professional. For my situation I did not need standard services necessarily, but they met me with open arms and in a timely fashion and it was the easiest process of everything I needed to do. Their character was shining through the whole time, and genuinely I felt like I made a friend in the mix of what would otherwise be a business transaction. I will be happy to bring my children here for services, and even happier to expand their business and refer them to anyone needing them. Sincere and honest business owners, and so happy I chose them.

Fantastic experience: I highly recommend 1st Drive LLC for anyone needing to take a driving test. After failing my initial test, I searched for another driving school and found 1st Drive LLC. Mr. Randy Shawn was my instructor, and he was fantastic. He remained calm throughout the lesson and created a positive atmosphere that put me at ease. His guidance helped me focus more on the road and avoid repeating the mistakes I made the first time. Thanks to Mr. Randy's support, I successfully passed my test! Fantastic experience: My older sister had a very positive experience with 1st Drive LLC when she was my age, and I too had a great experience. Melanie was very quick to answer any emails and phone calls. The classroom portion was informative without being too boring, and Heather B was very kind and patient for my 6 hours of driving instruction. She set expectations very clearly. Randy was my driving examiner and was flexible with the scheduling of the test when the weather was snowy. I enjoyed my time here, and I would recommend 1st Drive for all aspects of learning to drive as a teenager.

Fantastic experience: After trying another driving school my sister was absolutely terrified and insecure to drive again due to the rudeness she had experienced from a instructor, we decided to give this school a try and it was one of the best decisions we have ever made! She went from not being confident at all in front of the wheel, to being confident and fearless! Her instructor Jessica is one of the kindest people I’ve ever met, she was very patient and gentle and helped my sister get out of her shell! She taught my sister skills that help her be a good driver on the road

Fantastic experience: I came here to take my driving test. Randy was my driving instructor, and he was very patient and kind. I did not pass this time around, but he gave me very helpful pointers and reminders to do better next time. I intend on taking my retest here as the experience itself was very comfortable. Hi Daniela, I've searched the business database for your name and all that comes up is a permit test in 2021 and drive test in 2022. Both of those were administered by another instructor. To call me unprofessional is unwarranted. I've been an instructor for over 14 years and have had thousands of students and drive tests applicants that would say otherwise. If your comment refers to Mrs O'Malley, she down right slandered my name and my business because she lied in her comments.

Hmmm, Mr. J. It's unfortunate that you didn't pass. We record what we observe so you must not have been driving according to state standards. If you have an issue with the state standards then you need to address that to the state. Now for your rude and dishonest comments. If we were shady like you said we are, we probably wouldn't still be in business. As for you retesting at a different place that day, that is not possible. Applicants can't test more than once per day.
Fantastic experience: Long story short, I found myself retaking my permit and driver's test at 43 yo, after accidentally not paying a ticket and then letting my license lapse. Good times. Although I have actually been driving longer than I haven't at this point, I was incredibly nervous about taking the test- mostly written, but both! I took my permit test with the lovely lady who owns it (whose name I forget, so sorry) and she was patient and accommodating. I have terrible ADHD and she made sure I had a nice quiet environment. There was a mixup of some kind, and I was unaware that I could have taken the permit test for free at the DMV, and they kindly gave me a credit towards my driver's test. Randy was my driving test instructor, and couldn't have been better! At 43 yo I was as nervous as any teen taking the test- it's been YEARS since I have had to do this! Randy is a calm, patient, kind man, and he made a point to engage in friendly conversation to put me at ease before and during the test. Randy and his wife have 3 kids and 4 grandchildren, and all I could think is how lucky they are to have such awesome parents! Hopefully I won't be needing their services for myself again anytime soon, but would and will be recommending them to anyone who might!! Thanks for a great experience in what is admittedly a stressful situation for anyone!

Fantastic experience: I did my driving test here at 1st drive with Randy! He is an amazing instructor and definitely learned a lot from him. He gave me clear and detailed instructions and also asked me if I had questions because he’s willing to answer everything thoroughly. He was so patient and that helped me throughout the test. Fantastic experience: So good. So friendly. Very helpful! Paying more probably gets you more hand-holding through the process, but you won't get better service than 1stDrive. They really have a personal touch.

Fantastic experience: I took the driving test with Randy today. He was direct with instructions and was patient. I didn't feel nervous and the route was gorgeous and safe. Randy is knowledgeable and gave me some well appreciated tips on how to better manage my skills as well as all around safety. I highly recommend this school.

Fantastic experience: Randy was professional and clear with directions the entire time. He is such a nice guy and was even generous to give us a discount when I passed on my second attempt. I failed my first attempt here, randy was professional the entire time. Even when I did an automatic fail, He didn’t stop the test but, to give me a learning experience instead. Wow! Rob, I rarely get positive reviews after customers had an experience like yours. After failed tests, customers usually lash out at me and blame me and say all kinds of nasty things. Positive experience: Good service at the location, however it should be noted they do not return phone calls after the test is over. I was told the driving test was all I needed to complete, turn out It was not true, I need to complete the witten test and eye test. Could have been my misunderstanding. Hi Mr. Kinsey, I'm not sure what you are referring to. We are a driving school, not the DOR (Department of Revenue/DMV). Many of the issues you are addressing (complaining about) are handled by the DOR, not the driving school. If you were misinformed or misunderstood something about the requirements, that was not 1st Drive's fault nor it warranted a 3 star review. That was unfair.

Negative experience: The testing driver Heather had an intimidating personality and clearly used "trick" tactics to fail her. Upon their full drive, Heather informs us both that she "thought she was going to die" driving with my daughter. She described driving down an intersection where there were two areas to the left and right intersections with shrub overgrowth that blocked the view of oncoming traffic. She explained that my daughter stopped appropriately behind the sidewalk but then continued forward without full view of oncoming traffic at which point they were almost t-boned and killed. Yet, she continued the drive. If you felt a new driver put several lives at risk, wouldn't you expect her to take over the vehicle and return to the office? Has Heather ever reported the overgrowth to the city? Heather then advises us that she gave my kid a "free pass" when they drove on ice and the anti-lock breaks sounded. We are advised that is an automatic fail. And yet, there is nearly NO ICE on the streets anywhere. I believe Heather purposely attempted to fail my daughter so that we could pay the $55 fee again, as she tried to reschedule us for tomorrow and we are expecting 7 inches of snow to fall overnight. As they sat in the car my daughter tried to shake her hand and introduce herself. Heather acted as if she did not know what the gesture meant and my daughter had to ask her if she would please shake her hand. She explained that Heather was monotone and intimidating the entire time. I'm disgusted and will tell everyone to avoid this treatment.
Dear Charity, Sorry to hear that your daughter did not pass her test the first time. Most first time drive test applicants pass on their first try. Each driving school creates two drive test routes based upon the criteria provided by Colorado’s Driver Testing and Education (DTE) department. After these routes are created, DTE will review these routes for compliancy then eventual approval. I assure you that Heather did not use “trick” tactics nor purposely try to do or say something that would cause your daughter to fail her test. Pulling out into an intersection without a thorough search is dangerous regardless if there are shrubs, fences, trees, vehicles, etc. blocking their view. It is the driver’s responsibility, after stopping, to creep forward until their view is unobstructed. Heather telling your daughter to “stop” constitutes an automatic failure per DTE standards. It is not 1st Drive’s responsibility to drive around the neighborhoods and report obstructed intersections. Drive testers have several options after the applicant has failed the test: 1) We can have the applicant drive back to the office via the shortest route possible; or 2) We can have the tester drive the vehicle back to the office; or 3) Have the applicant finish driving the test route. Having your daughter finish driving the test route allows the tester to give a more thorough critique. Your daughter scored an 8, which is very good. Heather felt that your daughter could complete the remainder of the test safely. Heather was taken by surprise about the hand shake and did shake your daughter’s hand. Your opinion of my driving instructor is just that, an opinion. I’m sure it would have been said differently if your daughter had passed. As for the retest fee, I can see where you would be upset by that. I don’t believe I’ve ever had anyone excited about having to retest or having to have to pay the fee again. All businesses rely on income for services provided.

Fantastic experience: My son passed his permit test today and I couldn't be more proud. The owner and staff at 1st Drive have been incredibly helpful through email from the first day we signed up for the online home study and throughout the process answering any questions I had. The process was simple and worked well for our busy family. On final test day in person, the staff was very kind and welcoming to my son which made him less nervous. We will definitely be back for his driving test in the future. I highly recommend 1st Drive.

Fantastic experience: We had a great experience with Randy yesterday. I was a little worried because some roads were snowy and slick. Before going out, Randy was very clear with my son regarding what actions would cause an automatic failure in those conditions. I am happy to report that my son passed. After the test, he said that Randy's instructions (where to turn, etc.) during the test were very clear, which my son really appreciated. We also appreciated the ease of scheduling and re-scheduling. Overall, we had a very pleasant and positive experience with 1st Drive. (My son did not take classes through 1st Drive. We did not feel any sort of bias against my son due to that fact. Randy treated us professionally and with courtesy through the entire experience.) Thank you, 1st Drive and Randy!
Hi Misty. I'm so glad your experience with 1st Drive was positive. Drive tests are already stressful. Icy and snow packed roads doesn't make it easier for the applicant. I always try to be consise, considerate and caring towards all customers testing. I'm sure your son will take the advice given to him to be a long term safe driver.
Fantastic experience: Took my 17 year old son here today. Randy was very professional and by the book which is awesome. Ryan did great and passed. I have seen other reviews say they try to scam you or only pass kids from their classes. This is not true. Never been here before today. Only lessons my son ever took was from me. Thank you and will be back with my other son. I will recommend this place to anyone in the future!

Unfortunately, some aren't coached properly or taught according to Colorado standards and don't pass. My heart goes out to those who don't initially pass because none of us enjoy failing, including me.
Fantastic experience: Our 2nd teen just passed a driving test with first drive. Great classes and driving instruction. Definitely will take our next kid there in 3 years! ***** Update... 3rd kid to go to 1st Drive is soaking up a lot of things from his in person class. Definitely prefer in person to online. Great experience as always. Plus when mom messed up the start date (♀️) we were given the grace of taking him to 2 classes next month. Flexible despite my incompetence. So awesome.

Negative experience: This is the most dubious school have ever seen in Colorado. They are only concerned about collecting money from customers if you are not their student and you went to there school for texting. Please don't go there if you don't want to waste your money.
Hi Oluyemi, We conduct drive tests for anyone who is needing one. We routinely test students who attended our driving school and other students who completed courses from other driving schools. We also conduct driving tests for the general public. The driving tests are standardized and established by Colorado so all driving schools grade the exact same way. Turning from the wrong side of the road; turning into the wrong lane; driving down on the wrong side of the road for even short periods of time is dangerous and illegal. It's unfortunate that you didn't pass your drive test at 1st Drive. We are not dubious and no, we don't only care about money. If that was the case, our fees would be more than all the other driving schools and I wouldn't have given you a discount on the retest. I hope you're able to correct the things that you were doing wrong and have better success at another driving school.
Fantastic experience: Took my driver's license test here today. Very friendly staff! Test was affordable (best price in town) and absolutely passable with basic defensive driving capabilities and knowledge. The "course" takes you through a beautiful neighborhood too. Highly recommend!

Negative experience: I came here the other day for my drivers test, Randy is a nice guy but over exaggerates way too much. He failed me for the dumbest things. I retook my test today at American Driving Academy and did the exact same thing I did at first drive with randy and passed with no points. Randy said that I would run someone over if I kept driving and that I would not survive one winter. I do not recommend this place, Randy specifically is not a good tester.
Hi Tanner, I'm glad you passed the test at American Driving Academy. All driving schools are trained by the state using standardized testing methods. I know that you weren't happy that you failed your test. Driving schools don't set the standards for driving in Colorado, Colorado legislatures and the DMV do that. You said I exaggerate too much. Coming into stops too fast is dangerous and stopping initially in the crosswalks and intersections is dangerous. Even though you said you drove the same way and received "0" points, it sounds to me that you learned nothing from this experience other than to pass a driving test. The real test is surviving harsh driving conditions that you will encounter in most big cities especially like Colorado Springs which gets lots of icy conditions in the winter. Fantastic experience: Randy was Awesome!!!!!! He made my daughter feel confident and safe. He was very clear with instructions. She did mess up a few times. I asked him for feedback so that she coukd practice more! I could tell he has been doing this for years and has a heart for teens! I would recommend 1st Dive to any and everyone. Hi Jen, Are you sure you have the correct driving school? What services did we provide for you that you weren't happy about or who did you talk to that wasn't friendly to you? I can assure you that whoever answers the phone at 1st Drive are professional and polite each and every time. My wife, my niece and myself answer the phone about 99% of the time. Randy
Negative experience: The drive tester got on my son for driving too fast in a residential area when he was following the speed limit. He then marked him off 4 times for something so petty that no one in this country should have a license. Nobody has ever been pulled over for this offense. He even avoided an accident when he was cut off during his test! Are you kidding me?!!! My son didn't get his licence because the tester was petty. The woman with the tattoos is awesome though. And I truly appreciate her help. Shanon? I'm sorry, I'm terrible with names. You are the best part of that company as far as I've seen.
Hi Marianne. I just reviewed the test form from the test that your son, Gabriel, took on June 25, 2021. Your son only had 8 points which is pretty good however, the law is the law. The driving handbook explains what to do at stop lights and stop signs. I did not write the driving handbook, I am not the DMV, and I am not a police officer, but I have to follow the standards that were created by the DMV and the state. As a certified drive test official, we can't pick and chose which laws to follow and not follow. And why do you call the tester, petty? He is following the state standards. He is following the law. So would you prefer he just look away while your son breaks the law? And when your son does get a ticket for violating the law, who will get the blame? Randy
Negative experience: Had a petty instructor who failed me because I stopped a little bit after the stopsign and he claimed I was speeding in a pedestrian area when I was going 20 the speed limit in that area was 30 and yet I failed but the front desk lady was nice at least
Hi Gabe. It is unfortunate that you did not pass your drive test on June 25, 2021. I reviewed the test sheet and you scored only 8 points (which is really good) but you failed to mention that you had four incomplete stops. Some people call these California rolls or rolling stops. The state DMV allows for up too 2 law violations and you would have passed. Stopping is defined as no movement from the vehicle. Giving us only a 1 star is unfair. Yes, it sucks that you did not pass but I'm sure if you tested anywhere else, including the DMV, the results would have been similar. The tester most likely suggested to reduce your speed in a residential area for safety, but this was not reflected on the test form. Good luck on your next test. Randy

Fantastic experience: i went in to take my drivers test because the DMV isn’t doing the drivers test, they staff was very friendly and fast! they told me how to go about getting the license after i pass the test and got it online within minutes, definitely recommend!

Fantastic experience: thanks to these amazing people I was finally able to pass my permit test I've tried other ways at the regular DMV with the computers and I've always failed the test but this first drive was amazing they were so kind and polite treated me like a person even though I was a nervous wreck I was able to pass with flying colors 100%, thank you guys you are the best!!

Fantastic experience: First drive does an amazing job of teaching teens the in's and out's of driving. Staff is helpful and very nice. They provided us with all of the info we needed to get our daughter her driver's license. I highly recommend first drive.

Negative experience: They said i could take my driving test but they would fail me because of snow on the road.
Wow! You weren't even one of our customers and you gave us a 1 star. Jimmy, that's really unfair. You should not be deceiving my future customers like that. My staff told you what the state requirements are that if you should happen to slide on the ice and snow that you would fail the test. This is not a 1st Drive rule but a state rule. If you were to slide or spin tires then you are not handling the vehicle in a safe manner. And you also failed to mention that you were rude to my staff and hung up on them. Each driving school is required to explain to each test applicant this requirement.
Fantastic experience: I took the test with mike today I was nervous going in because I have anxiety but as soon as he got in the car he started talking and it really helped he was nice and funny and everyone there was nice. I passed the first time thank you for the great experience. I avoided the dmv because the people are intimidating and it takes to long this was really fast so I recommend this place over the dmv. Negative experience: I took my wife in for a drive test as she recently moved here from Japan and needed to transfer her license and were turned away last minute because the staff heard us speaking another language. Without speaking directly to my wife to hear her English level she said she did not feel comfortable doing the test with her and turned us away. My wife didn’t even get a chance to speak to the staff to show her English level is fine. We felt very disrespected for being turned away without my wife even being able to demonstrate her English level.
Hi Joey, I'm sorry you felt disrespected. I talked to my staff about this situation and support them in their decision. 1st Drive policy is that the person being tested must be able to speak and understand English. The reason for this policy is for safety. In an emergency situation, we have to be able to communicate freely. I have administered thousands of drive tests and during most tests, I'm putting my life at risk. Not being able to clearly communicate, adds an extra level of danger to the test.
Fantastic experience: On time. Communicated instructions clearly. Went over results of test fully. Suggested areas to stay focused on while driving. Kept the driver focused on the road during the road test. They made the whole process very easy and relaxed

Fantastic experience: My daughter and son both went through this driving program and everything was great both times. The staff members that we interacted with were professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. The driving instructors are great with teaching teens what they need to be safe drivers and at the same time make the teens feel comfortable with them. Instructor Mike was always on time for appointments, great with communication regarding appointment days/times (always texted the day before to confirm) and was a great teacher for our daughter. Negative experience: Worst experience ever!! Twice!! I highly recommend going somewhere else. They over react on every little thing. I had reservations going to this place again! First time he failed my son because he over reacted to a change lane situation. I then take him to another place and he of course passes with flying colors. I schedule another appiontment for my second son with hesitation, hoping it was just that one time but Nooo...He over reacted again and failed right at the beginning. Both of my kids are all good defensive drivers none of them have been in any accident of their cause. I have 3 that are drives and 2 to go. This is the worst place to take anybody for a driving test. I DO NOT RECOMMED THIS PLACE TO ANYONE!!!
Kelly, your review is unfair and you only told your side of it and conveniently omitted the part of your kids driving dangerously and omitted the part of your kids breaking the law. I am sorry that neither of your kids passed on the first time taking the drivers exam. I am sure both of your kids were trained to the best of your ability and knowledge of the state driving laws and I am sure that you think your children are good drivers. The state approves the drive test route based upon state requirements. The state also approves the drive testers in which they are required to be re-certified every two years. Certified testers test according to the Colorado Driver’s Handbook which simplifies the state law so young teens can understand it. We do not pick and choose who passes or fails nor do we “over react” to a person’s driving. We follow the state guidelines for testing. Your first son tested on 10/19/15 by myself and he had 14 infractions which included 4 law violations and one serious violation which required the tester to grab the wheel on a lane change because your son was about to drift into another car. His law violations included speeding in a school zone, turning from the bike lane (twice) and an incomplete stop. His minor infractions included stopping in the crosswalks and/or past the limit line, not checking his blind spots (on lane changes) and lack of searching and scanning. Your second son tested on 03/31/17 by Mike and he had 11 infractions which include 1 law violation and one serious violation which required the tester to verbally say a car was coming from the right side (tester didn’t want to get t-boned). His law violation was turning from the bike lane. His minor infractions included stopping in the crosswalks and/or past the limit line. Both teens had similar issues and were tested by two different testers. We did not train your teens so you have to ask yourself, “Was it the drive test official’s fault or was the teen just not properly prepared for the drive test”? And yes, in my 6 years of experience as a drive tester (and after conducting several thousand drive tests), those that don't pass on the first time usually do extremely well on the retest. The reason being is that they now know what is expected and don't make the same mistakes.
