Our comment from DrivingSchools.Directory about Motorcycle Safety Academy:

Motorcycle Safety Academy is a motorcycle training school dedicated to providing a comprehensive learning experience for novice riders. Many students have praised the academy for its supportive instructors and well-structured courses. In particular, instructors like Patrick and Bob have been highlighted for their patience, clear communication, and the ability to make learning enjoyable. Students have remarked that the overall atmosphere is friendly and motivating, making it an excellent choice for those new to riding.

However, some users have raised concerns regarding communication and customer service. Instances of class cancellations without notifications have caused frustration among students. Additionally, the quality of the facilities and motorcycles has been criticized, with some claims of poorly maintained bikes and instructors being inconsistent in their approaches. Moreover, some students felt that classes for beginners were rushed, emphasizing a need for more practice time before testing.

Overall, while the Motorcycle Safety Academy has many strengths, including its knowledgeable instructors and effective training methods, potential students are encouraged to thoroughly check class details and be prepared for varying instructor styles and facilities.

Fantastic experience: Wonderful learning experience i feel i have strong foundation, Robert was great and Tea on admin was super helpful. Highly recommend.

Negative experience: Showed up 30 minutes early for class in Exton, PA and waited 30 minutes after class start for an instructor to show up. They never did. Never got a cancelation email or any communication about class being canceled. We left and I still have no idea what happened. I did the precourse assignment and took off work for nothing.

Negative experience: Do not take BRC in Maryland. The lot they provide you is practically busted up gravel and extremely bumpy which wasn't a great place for a beginner at all. I had to drop out of the course on day 1 because the instructor wasn't explaining the drills properly and was hard to understand sometimes. I just felt uneasy and uncomfortable while doing the later drills and felt I didnt have enough time to practice. plus they couldn't give me a refund at all :/

Mason Carvajal 11 months ago

Negative experience: They are incredibly stingy when it comes to passing students, 1/5 students passed while everyone who was failed was failed for borderline illegitimate reasons, some staff were friendly while others, such as the ones scoring were harsh, they didn’t allow me to take my re test nor gave me even a partial refund. I took another BRC from another sponsor and it was a million times simpler, more educational, and better suited to create a better and safer rider.

Fantastic experience: Every interaction I had with someone from MSA was pleasant and informative and professional. Scheduling the BRC-2 course was easy. Long story, but I interacted with Téa and team multiple times via email, phone, and text trying to cram a safety class and MD licensure into a three week period. They patiently guided me through getting into the correct class/location/time combination, and I thankfully credit Téa with preventing me from giving up entirely. A delightful experience. I found the online component very helpful, particularly the 360° videos. Block out some time, settle in, and absorb the nuances of the training; there’s something for everyone. The riding component was fair, challenging, and fun, the type of class where the students become temporary friends under excellent leadership. Patrick was a knowledgeable, savvy instructor who tailored the class perfectly for his students. We all passed. Post-class communication was excellent, and despite MSA appearing to be swamped with participants and processing, our results were available at the MD MVA within two days, well ahead of the expected two weeks. I’m looking forward to officially being out on the roads thanks to the confidence I gained through this program.

Negative experience: Do not use this company. I had an emergency where my trailer tire blew on the way to class, was told I had to register for a new class after paying 290.00 for a two day class. When I requested a refund due to unforeseeable circumstances I was told that would not be possible. Use Harley Davidson instead they even give you back your class money for a down-payment toward a new vehicle

Negative experience: The Monday morning I took my class was torrential downpour. Despite this, every student made an effort to arrive on time. Our instructor was nowhere to be found. We called and waited for over an hour before the office finally got back to us. They had listed the wrong start time on the website and in our confirmation email. The instructor was given an afternoon start time while we were told morning. This waste of everyone's time was perfectly preventable had the office done their job with care and attention to detail. Their support team is very terse, dry, and their tone of communication over email comes across as a rude. Don't bother with this place. Take your time and money to an established business like Harley-Davidson instead.

Fantastic experience: Great class! The ecourse was informative and easy to follow. The riding portion used the perfect bike for beginners a 300cc Honda Rebel. My instructor KING Patrick did an excellent job. He was patient, giving help and reassurance. His relaxed demeanor really helped keep us relaxed when it was time to take the test.

Fantastic experience: My 16 y/o son, who is still working on getting his MD car driver's license, took the Basic Rider Course from Motorcycle Safety Academy. The April 20-21, 2024 course was held off Mountain Road in Joppatown, MD in a church parking lot. He used to race bicycle cyclocross. I have been riding for 40 years and was very impressed with the instructor Patrick. The waiver / prereq coordinator Tea S. was instrumental in doc prep coordination. There were 8 students riding small Honda Rebels which had low seats, engine guards, and removed signals and mirrors. One student was an experienced hotdog. Six rode similarly well. One dropped the bike, bombed the quick stop multiple times, and, appropriately did not pass. He wasn't able to follow instructions. The instructor was very good about setting up and running the class and coaching improvements pleasantly. The 20' U-turn used for testing had a slight uphill grade, and many people put a foot down. The students got in lots of hours riding, often with 4 on the large course at a time. Before the second day, I gave my son extra practice on a Z400 elsewhere to practice riding slowly with the clutch partially engaged while revving the engine. One day 1, he was stalling the bike more than other students. I also taught him to turn his head and look at the exit of the u-turn upon entry. It was a pleasant 50 degree day. I didn't want my son to take it on a 90 degree summer day, like I did for an advanced class. He brought food and drink for during course layout changes. Thanks. I would not hesitate to recommend this class.

Fantastic experience: Patrick was an excellent coach giving us ample time and help to learn how to ride, the course is also at a great price point highly recommend

Fantastic experience: My experience at the motorcycle safety academy was exceptional, largely due to the expertise and guidance of instructor Patrick. His thorough instruction and patient demeanor helped me navigate the complexities of riding and master the skills necessary to pass my test confidently. Patrick's attention to detail and clear communication ensured that I felt prepared and supported throughout the process. I highly recommend this academy, especially with Patrick as an instructor, for anyone looking to learn motorcycle safety skills effectively.

Fantastic experience: If you're a novice rider looking to hit the road with confidence and safety in mind, you simply must check out this basic motorcycle course! Not only will you learn how to handle your ride like a pro, but you'll also get a comprehensive lesson on different road conditions and how to manage the risks they pose. Patrick is a stickler for safety, and his thorough instructions are sure to leave you feeling confident and competent on the road. Trust me, this is a course you don't want to miss!

Negative experience: Wouldn’t recommend this place to take your course. First the weather was bad down pour rain, in the 20s degree and extremely windy. The instructor in maryland is very hard to understand. You have no idea what he is even saying. I did my complete course failed the initial practical (100% on me) the second time around it was just the guy with the strong accent not only did he confuse me during one of the skills tests he docked me points even tho he wasn’t clear on when to start. When I tried to explain myself he just dismissed me and didn’t bother to listen. Now do I spend another $270 at this place to be stuck with the same instructor I can’t understand or go else where, where I could get a instructor that’s actually patient and takes the time to teach.

Negative experience: If I could give 0 stars I would!! These guys will steal your money..felt as though I was discriminated against..this coarse isn’t for beginners clearly at all. They move way to fast during drills and if you don’t get the drills down that are meant to practice and learn they will fail you while you’re trying to learn..I dropped the bike 1 time on day one and another person in my group dropped it 3 times and stalled but I was sent off I feel as though that wasn’t fair because someone who made more mistakes was able to be in the class but I was sent off for 1 mistake AS IF IM NOT ALLOWED TO MAKE MISTAKES AS A BEGINNER!! DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE AT ALL!!

Fantastic experience: I have to hand it to the staff at Motorcycle Safety Academy, they were very thorough and were able to help me pass my Motorcycle Safety Course. Greg and Blue are more than qualified to help you acquire your motorcycle endorsement. I would recommend the course to anyone trying to get their motorcycle license. Thank you, I appreciate you.

Negative experience: THIS IS A SCAM....they tell you its for people with no riding experience to get you there rush you through everything and confuse you to get you to either quit or fail you so you can be offered the $700 private sessions. IT IS A SCAM

Negative experience: I am overall dissatisfied and disappointed in the time and money I wasted on the BRC with Motorcycle Safety Academy. Markings in parking lot were confusing. Cones used for exercises often blended in with markings in the parking lot. For example the Instructor Greg used small circular green and orange cones, however there are several orange circle markings on the parking lot where exercises were taking place. Would help the course much better if larger cones were used instead of small circle cones and lines painted . There are too many lines and are often intersecting. It is very easy to lose track of the little cones they use. Was only given about 2 attempts on each exercise before moving onto the next exercise except when we were doing straightaways with curves. The course description states the course is designed for beginner riders. However, only 1 person in my class passed their riding test. That only leads me to believe 1 of 2 things, 1) that this course is not meant for beginner riders or 2) the instructor was not very good. After seeing all of my classmates test it was very clear we were all skilled and competent enough to begin riding on the road yet only 1 student passed. Seems this business may be more interested in charging you to take another class than actually working with you and helping you through your flaws to pass the test when you take your BRC the first time. After my experience here I would most likely not recommend them to anyone and would more likely suggest spending the extra money and go to Harley Davidson. Felt as though the testing portion of the class was rushed which created a nervous and anxious environment causing a few students including myself to stall more frequently than they normal did. Although I had a poor experience with certain aspects it was nice to meet fellow riders who shared the same passion as me and was definitely fun to ride around on the Honda rebel they provided. Will definitely be retaking the BRC with my local Harley Davidson dealer.

Fantastic experience: So I needed to leave a review of how amazing my instructor Greg was. I couldn't ride before, however after taking the class, exactly one week after I purchased a Can am Spyder f3 and I was riding on the highway due to the encouragement and lessons I had learn from the class. I also need to let you know Maria the rep was outstanding with her customer service. Thank you Greg and Maria.

Negative experience: I went with a friend of mine, and both of us passed our written and riding tests. The being said, there were multiple questions on the written exam that we were never given any information on, so the average grade was barely enough to pass. In addition, we were never told that the MSF certificate EXPIRES after 6 months, so when my friend went to get his M certification, he was told he would need to spend another $300 to acquire his license. Absolutely ridiculous that this information isn’t provided to students anywhere on the website or during instruction. Spend a little more, go to HD instead

Fantastic experience: I took their beginner rider's course in lebanon pennsylvania. Harry and Maddy were awesome instructors. . The suzuki 250s were a bit small and uncomfortable for me, however the instruction was fantastic. I've never ridden a motorcycle before and i picked it up( due to them) rather quickly. Highly recommend them. Btw think Hagrid from Harry Potter learning to ride a motorcycle.

Fantastic experience: Notice: The meeting place is in a woodish trailer kind of building in between the church and life center. No one knew and it’s a little confusing. The course: Blue was a great instructor and hilarious. Great direction and very nice about everything.

Positive experience: GREAT TEACHER .. should be 5 stars. But It’s taken them over 2 weeks to start the process of even getting my name in the MVA system. Called to find out it literally takes 1 day to get into the system(per said the representative I talked to). Ive just been wasting my time going to the MVA, so very confused on why it has taken them so long. Great teacher. Great class. Poor business etiquette.

Fantastic experience: As a brand new rider, this was an excellent experience. I went in never having ridden a motorcycle and left feeling confident about my ridding skills. Bob was an amazing instructor, he explains things very clearly and has a very kind and uplifting energy to him.

Bill Koch 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: Great course, great instructor, wonderful fellow learners. After 40 years of not riding, this was the perfect re-entry into the sport for me. The instructional experience is incremental, so you really build skills faster than you think. Scott ran a tight ship out on the course - instructing, inspiring and pushing us just the right amount. Class members became fast friends. Time to get a bike and sign-up for the advanced class! I totally recommend this course, and Scott as an instructor.

Michelle Torzewski 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: I would recommend taking this course especially if you have zero experience. I had two different instructors (Bob and Harry) and they both were exceptional. They both had a lot of knowledge, experience and patience! I felt safe, confident and supported. I came in not knowing how to ride to passing my test! I do not think I would have been able to pass or gain the skills needed any other way. I will be signing up for the next level!

Negative experience: Great class and great price!!! However, Greg has no respect for people’s time. During my class he showed up about a half hour late for two of our sessions. After passing the course, I winded up referring a friend to take the class. He showed up late both days. 2 hours the first day and over an hour the next day with no explanation. Shame on you man!!!

Fantastic experience: I took the BRC2 course with Mr. Bob as my instructor and had an awesome time in class! It was great having an instructor with on-road riding and in-shop repair experience who could relate all of our coursework to real life situations. Since completing the course (and getting my class M license!) I have been referring all my friends to sign up. 6/5 stars

Fantastic experience: Absolutely enjoyed these sessions. Bob and Maria were great the very minute I walked into class. 3 hours of a class and Bob kept the entire class engaged and it hardly even felt like a class. They went over everything very well and I recommend taking this class to anyone new or even those who have been on the road for years. From the class to the coarse, amazing experience.

Positive experience: The facility leaves much to be desired. The riding course is rough/needs to be re-paved and the bikes are old with damage. However, I felt more welcome/confident and learned more in one day than a prior 3 day course at HD Old Glory. Bruce aka Blue is a great instructor! Thank you.

Negative experience: Never come here This place has the worst customer service. No respect to customers. Complete money rip off and the managers will find any excuse to steal your money and kick you off the class. Fantastic experience: It's all about who is your coach at that day. I got Darryl who is fantastic. I don't think this place is inferior to Harley. The motorcycle schools in this area all share the same group of coaches. Although their bikes are not as fancy as Harley's, they are much easier to manuver than a Harley for a beginner. I failed my BRC in Harley because the coach I had at Harley didn't explain anything carefully to us. Then, I finished my BRC2 here and got a much better sense of riding.

Fantastic experience: If you ever get a chance to have the pleasure of taking one of these classes with Robert Hammaker in the Advance 1 day class, YOU ARE IN AMAZING HANDS! Bob completely changed my mind on what I thought I was going to get out of these classes. I went in thinking this would be an annoying, costly class that I would have to take to get the dang license for Maryland! I actually ended up learning a wealth of knowledge and I feel more confident getting back onto the road with a motorcycle. Bob was incredibly patient, and informative and went through every question with no judgement. I would highly encourage taking this class if you can!

Fantastic experience: I just completed a course today. I was the most deficient in the class in my estimation. I had one nasty spill that could have injured me grotesquely, but fortunately I was spared the possible worst. I fell FACE FIRST and the bike followed right on top of me. I also had a second slipup where I lost my bike control, and had to let the bike go to the ground. My instructors David and Nina supported me through and through. Never making me feel that I was a lost cause. There were stern but fair and encouraging. They followed all procedures, and through my determination not to give up, I learned from my mistakes and wound up passing the course. They gave me nothing, I earned everything. GREAT experience and character builder for me. David and Nina are A+ instructors and should be commended for their professionalism.

Fantastic experience: I completed the 3 wheel basic riding class with Mr Darryl Davis in Essex. This class was amazing. Darryl was an extremely good communicator. He was patient and delivered clear and precise instructions through out the 2 day course. I have never rode a Can Am before my class and he made this such a wonderful experience. just for ads 4 years ago

Negative experience: Avoid at all costs. Including your own safety. Instructors were unable to effectively communicate simple tasks and put every single rider on the range at risk. The collective group of students were left to decide for themselves where to stop, where to accelerate, and where to go. Many people left after the first couple hours due to the disorganization. Find another class. You have been warned!

Fantastic experience: Great instructors!!!

Larry Rothang 4 years ago

Fantastic experience: Enjoyed the class. Same instructor as at HD class. Really glad I took the course. I have ridden a Motorcycle but they taught me stuff I never practiced but should have. The bike are small, light and had dings and dents. That was a good thing because I was not afraid of possibly damaging it like I would on my bike. Anyone can ride a motorcycle in a straight line doing 50 but low speed turns and weaves are a challenge. They train you what you need to know but probably wouldn't practice on your motorcycle. Worth every penny.

Negative experience: Just the website alone is insufficient. The contact email doesn’t work, the phone number they provide doesn’t work, trying to submit a message doesn’t work... to me that’s a reflection on how they already operate this business. Thumbs down.

Dimitrios Laiakis 5 years ago

Negative experience: Do not give these people money. Be aware of this "academy". I just lost my $240 registration because I never got an email with instructions for the online course. Didn't even know what to expect when I registered about two months ago and when I walked in this morning they asked for my eCourse print confirmation. Well, the only e-mail I got from them was a payment receipt and nothing else. Poor service quality and totally un-professional, stay away. Funny thing they asked me to pay half or the registration again when I called them. They didn't even offer a reschedule like poor communication was my fault.

Fantastic experience: The instructors are patient and let you learn at your own pace. There's class room time and about 10 hours of range time on the motorcycles. The teach you a solid foundation for motorcycling safely. Grateful they are here. Also when you pass the course you get a certificate to take to the MVA and the add the "M" endorsement to your driver's license and they say you also get a discount on you future motorcycle insurance policy with this certificate.

Negative experience: Updating my review. Took this class here after being denied first time. Stephanie was a much better manager than the previous one. Seems to be very little structure and the owner only cares about money, not the students. If you are going to go here, do not go here if Diane is the manager. Completely unprofessional and rude. She will find a reason to throw you out and charge you again for a new class. All in all, only ever go here if it is your last choice. Harley Davidson’s classes are much better or almost any other MSF course. Do not give these people money

Fantastic experience: This training program is fantastic! It was my first time learning to ride a bike with a clutch (I have an old Honda trail 90 with automatic clutch) and the Basic Rider Course gave me the confidence and skill set to operate a bike with reasonable comfort after just two days on their parking lot rider course. The office staff, specifically Stephanie, communicated professionally and consistently from signup through course completion and throughout the Covid pandemic which delayed the course. Mike, Eric, and Diane were outstanding instructors on the course. They were very knowledgeable, professional, and respectful in their teaching. It is a great experience and fantastic learning opportunity for anyone learning to ride. Thanks MSA!

Negative experience: Horrible place with horrible people. These instructors told me to be at the course at a certain time and when I show up they tel me I’m suppose to be there at a whole different time and they tell me I’m late when I was EARLY! when I asked for an explanation they couldn’t provide one and said “it’s out of our hands and gave me a phone number that goes straight to voicemail and won’t be taking calls until Monday. The test is tomorrow SUNDAY. waste of $300 and waste of my time. Save your money and your time. Go to the Harley Davidson dealerships they offer PROFESSIONAL classes with PROFESSIONAL instructors.

Negative experience: Very Rude and unprofessional is my first time riding and this class made me not want to ride my bike at all 4 teachers and non- of them took the time to teach me I would ask questions and they would just completely ignore me please do something about this I ended up going to Harley-Davidson they did a much better job

Juan Canales 5 years ago

Negative experience: Worst place to pay 300 dollars to, I showed up for my training at 12:45 the website schedule said 1 pm. The instructors said that they started at 12:30 and that I couldn’t take the class, they told me to call the number to the office which is closed on the weekends so there’s nothing I could do, those stubborn instructors wasted my time and money without reassurance of getting my money back, if you want to start class at 12:30 then put that on the website and do your job right.

Negative experience: This place is horrible! The instructors are very rude and disrespectful. They have no patience and they talk to the students very condescendingly. They don’t properly instruct students on what to do! The bikes are also not in the best condition. I had a bike that was smoking. The clutch on my bike was also faulty, making shifting gears more of challenge. Shifting gears is not that hard when the mechanics are in good working order. The instructors are very negative people! DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY HERE!! I repeat... DO NOT! Spend your money here!

Negative experience: Sign up if you want to see your teacher WRECK his bike during a demo. Yep. Instructor crashed. If you are latin or Hispanic, avoid this place. Negative experience: Look elsewhere. Rudely turned away on day one. This is not how you run a successful business in a conducive learning environment. Go to a real school that will work with you if life events happen or at least a location that is reputable.

Negative experience: Stay away from this "school". It's cheap and you get what you pay for. Some of the instructors are very unprofessional and don't create a good learning environment especially for people who have never been on a motorcycle. They get very impatient and sometimes angry when you don't do things correct the first which I think is ridiculous given the fact that this is a beginner class. Also, their motorcycles are not in good shape.

Negative experience: If I could give this zero stars I would. You would think a company that teaches motorcycle safety would care about the riders in their classes but clearly they only care about the riders' money. Was turned away on day one because I was several minutes late to the course

Positive experience: Sooo basic break down of the course first 2 days is in class with a test. Last 3rd day is all about basic riding and learning your bike. 4th day is some more practice then your riding test. Overall I’m very pleased with my experience with them, but the only thing I can really complain about is that if you have no experience then you better learn fast b/c in my opinion 1.5 days of practice isn’t enough if you’re a slow learner. My other complaint is that the bikes were in pretty beat condition and you better bring your own gear cause their gloves smell awful hahah but those are my only 2 complaints. 4/5 stars I’m extremely HAPPY WITH THEM. GREAT TEACHERS

Fantastic experience: It's hard work but it is so worth it. You will end up saving money and it will pay for itself in many ways. Insurance is much cheaper thanks to this class. I highly recommend it.

Fantastic experience: Great instructors, thanks to them I'm riding my C50 on the highway and having a blast. This place should definitely be your first stop if you wanna learn how ride.

Fantastic experience: I haven't ridden in 23 years. I wanted to brush up on my riding skills before going and getting my learners/license. I got more than just a brush up on my riding skills. Great experience all around. The 3 hour e-course you do before you go to class was a well executed course for learning the groundwork for the class. The classes were not dull or boring. They were mostly interactive with some team exercises, which didn't make it feel like a sit and listen bore-fest. The range training was good. I would have liked a little larger bike, since I am a big guy, but halfway through the first day, the bike felt better. I also liked having the 3 coaches ( 4 for a short time since I was in the afternoon class, and he hung around for a few minutes after his class). Having the different coaches helps you learn things a little better. If you were to ask them all about a specific situation, they all might have different answers, which helps you, because when you are on a motorcycle, no 2 situations are the same, there are multiple things that are happening and will happen, and the better prepared you are for the situation, the better your chance of averting an accident. All in all, I definitely feel like I am more aware rider than I was, and recommend going here.

Positive experience: This is a good way to receive your motorcycle license. They give you an e-course to complete before the class that teaches you the basics of motorcycle operation. The two days of classroom instruction build on the basics you learned in the e-course and we were let out earlier than planned both days. The riding course was well paced. My only complaint is the instructors have very different teaching styles--some are more strict than others. Some instructors will allow you to practice longer and others will cut the lessons short. This is my reasoning for 4 stars. The instructors should be giving the same class regardless of who is instructing and the riding course should be adapted to the students skill level (i.e. allowing the same amount of practice for each exercise). If you do fail the license test, you are allowed to come back and retake the test FOR FREE once (both the written and riding). They also allow additional practice (~$40 per practice session) to prepare for the retake riding test. Definitely recommend this place to get your license as opposed to going directly to the MVA and they are cheaper than other MSF courses in the area.

Negative experience: Unless you already know how to ride a motorcycle, AVOID THIS PLACE. Bikes were kept in horrible condition (e.g. finicky clutches, shift levers, smoking bikes), instructors were impatient and extremely unprofessional, and served more as supervisors as people basically tried to teach themselves. If you didn't learn at the pace they wanted, they would berate you and would pull you from the class "as a hazard," which was allowed via their waiver. Your money would be better served paying a stranger to borrow their bike.

Negative experience: Really horrible, save your money, they really don't care to be honest. If someone doesn't undertaand or needs help you're supposed to help them and this place doesn't do that
