Negative experience: Very rude, they don't provide anything close to adequate notice for appointments. You're only notified by email of upcoming appointments so if you forget to enter it into your calendar you're on your own.

My instructor Elmes (I hope I spelt the name right!!) was patient and prioritized my weaknesses with driving. I always felt like I could approach him with any questions. Allison (administrative services)was also so lovely to talk to and she stayed on top of my class schedule for me. From rescheduling to being informed to come in earlier or if any cancellations occurred so i could take my test when I felt ready - Training For Safety Driving School has been the best experience. My husband got his license here too :) I highly recommend their services. They’re so conveniently located too - just off the 7 at the 52nd st. stop.

Fantastic experience: Decided to learn to drive a the age of 37 and past of my second attempt thanks to Elmes and the TFS crew (I hit the curb on my first attempt, so not their fault!). Fantastic experience: Thank you Allison and Luis for helping me get my Driver’s License! Luis was a very patient instructor and provided clear instructions on how I needed to fix my mistakes. Right to the very end, it was clear that all the staff wanted to see me succeed. Especially, Allison who was very friendly and professional (she even called to personally congratulate me). I highly recommend TFS, particularly for Spanish speakers as most of the staff at the school speak both English and Spanish.

My learner permit was expiring in few weeks so I needed to go through the process and the lessons quickly. From day one, Alison was doing everything she could to expedite my sessions and schedule my test on time. She did it and it worked. I had *zero* experience of driving and ended up taking 42 times (!) of lessons and every single lesson he was gentle and always open for my questions. And I loved the admin staff! They are excellent! So kind, well-communicating and trying hard to schedule lessons fits to my work. Thank you so much TSF driving school! Strongly recommend, with hundreds of stars!!!

Negative experience: Truth be told, I had no issue with the actual instruction/lessons. My big issue was with trying to schedule appointments with the office. It took several weeks after taking my 5 hour pre-licensing course to actually get scheduled for any lessons. I was called multiple times to be offered lesson appointments for the same day (once literally 30 minutes before appointment time). This was incredibly difficult to deal with given my schedule was open with the one stipulation that I be given advance notice so I could inform my team at work. Ultimately I decided to seek a refund after another unpleasant experience with the staff and thankfully this process was relatively painless. There was a fee related to the refund which was outlined in the initial contract so no surprises there. I am grateful to my instructor Howard at TFS as I do feel that I learned some valuable road skills from him. With that said I would not recommend TFS Driving School unless you are comfortable dealing with haphazard scheduling. **Edit** Leaving this after the owner's reply as I believe in being fully transparent so others don't have to go through this. New York is a single party consent state - I use the call recording app to be able to recall details of appointments (dates, times, etc), it's not that deep! It came in very handy in this situation where the staff were claiming we had agreed on an appointment when in fact we hadn't. On the topic of scheduling - having an open schedule should make it easier to set up appointment times, not harder. All I asked was to be able to schedule with notice - being called 30 minutes prior to an appointment is not considered advanced notice. I frequently asked for availability for the following week but was always told they'd call me at a future date instead. I initially intended to leave the review shortly after parting ways with TFS but since it left such a sour taste in my mouth I decided to hold off and see if I still had the same feelings down the line. I don't feel the need to explain why I've decided to leave this review (4 months later or not) - it should be pretty obvious, but here I go anyway. I don't write reviews for points, I write them to support businesses that I recognize are doing a great job. This is the first time I've ever written one to criticize a business and it is not an enjoyable experience . I'm not doing it to be spiteful - I just want to warn others so they can avoid a similar experience. I also hope that this helps TFS Driving School improve so they can better service the student drivers of Sunnyside and Woodside! I will not be updating this review any further but I do hope this business can use my feedback to improve for the future. Good luck.

Fantastic experience: Training for Safety Driving School is a gem! I had no prior driving experience and passed my road test after a dozen lessons!!! I was initially anxious about getting behind the wheel but quickly felt at ease under the tutelage of my instructor Elmes. He is an amazing teacher who provided me with thorough lessons from the very basics to more advanced maneuvers. I always felt safe with him and this helped me to grow more confident after every lesson. He was open to answering any of my questions throughout my experience and always provided me with great feedback. Closer to my road test date, he designed a meticulous preparation training plan for me to ensure I’m 100% ready. Elmes genuinely cares for his students’ success and it shows. He rooted for me from beginning to end and I will forever be grateful for his support. Without a doubt, he WILL develop you into a competent driver in a short period of time. The office staff, Allison and Maria, were also amazing! They worked incredibly hard to make sure I was booked for regular appointments to maintain and hone my driving skills. In addition, they went the extra mile to schedule me for my road test. This is an important point I want to emphasize on because I learned how difficult it is to find an open date/time slot when they’re all booked for the following weeks. They diligently checked the DMV’s website every day to look for slots that opened up and promptly communicated with me to confirm if the date worked with my schedule before reserving it. Simply put, they are a shining example of what it means to be professional down to a tee. TFS Driving School has treated me like family and I’m so happy that I chose them. They provide top notch service at affordable rates, which is what we all look for as consumers. For prospective driving students in the area, this is the place!

Fantastic experience: In my experience, the TFS staff were caring and respectful. I earned my standard driver’s license within 5 months, doing the pre-license class, 5 lessons and 2 road test attempts in a Toyota Corolla. Howard helped me ease into driving in the streets with peace and minimal stress for my first 3 lessons. Though, I didn't pass my first road test mostly because of trying to do the "sideways steering” method. I personally recommend sticking with the “hand-over-hand” technique for best control of the vehicle. Elmes, regularly the commercial driving instructor guided me on my last 2 lessons giving me solid tips and constructive criticism that ensured me to pass the next road test. Allison was always friendly and committed to helping me through the next step. After I passed my second road test, she even gave me a whole NYS Commercial Driver’s Manual when I said I was considering to earn a CDL one day. I'm grateful for TFS supporting me through the journey, and I feel like I wouldn't have received a better experience anywhere else.

Negative experience: Place isn't that great. Very upsetting i spent my money here. I had instructor Howard for my first 3 lessons and then they changed the instructor to another guy. They claim instructor Howard was getting too old and couldn't work anymore for the school and had apoglizee. He was a very old school and also an elderly. Honestly they should've not placed him to teach in the first place. In my perspective it's difficult when you have 2 different people teaching you how to drive the DMV way! Different tecniques and rules were applied when dealing with the two instructors. It really was unfortunate for me. I was stressed and confused about it all. Also didnt pass my test. Definitely won't be coming back here or referring this place. Come here and you'll see why. It's a business afterall they want your money. I waste my money and time here, but most of all my time! Time isn't replaceable, money is. Save yourself for another driving school....

Fantastic experience: I went into this place to ask a simple question not only did they go out of their way to answer the question they literally filled out all the paperwork for me notarized it and even helped me with my taxes when it came to tax season the owners and workers are some of the nicest people I've ever met in my life and we'll go out of their way to make your life easier not only do they help with your license they also do taxes and they're good if you have probably the best at what they do I recommend this place to anybody and everybody they are also bilingual this is one place you will always walk out happy
