Fantastic experience: Two of our kids received their drivers licenses through Rakota driving school and I would not send them anywhere else. Mr. A is very thorough, patient, good humored, and most of all centered around safe, responsible driving. He makes it fun for the students, but does not cut corners on safety. I felt very, comfortable putting our teenage drivers into his hands.

Fantastic experience: I signed my son up for Rakoda Driving School after a friend of a friend recommended it on Facebook. Mr A was a fantastic driving teacher. He really engages with young drivers - correcting them in a way to help them understand the reason and potential impact, but in a way that teenagers respond to. He jokes with his students and puts them at ease. Scheduling online was easy and he is conveniently located in McLean. Highly recommend Mr A!

Fantastic experience: Rakoda is simply the best driving school. Let me start here: I was a not-so-traditional driving student, finally aiming to get my driver's license at the age of 40. As a teenager, I wasn't that interested and I didn't exactly have the need. Over the years, my anxiety around driving increased, but I knew it had to happen. I called Mr. A several months before I intended to take driving lessons with him. I described my situation, and he calmly and reassuringly said, "I can help you feel comfortable and confident driving and I would be glad to teach you." A few months later, I got my permit and signed up for 1:1 lessons, literally starting with the basics. After a few sessions, my fear eased and I truly looked forward to driving with Mr. A. I did a combination of the package of 1:1 lessons, Behind-the-Wheel, the online course, and additional 1:1 lessons to sharpen highway driving. I got my license after 3 months, overcoming 20+ years of fear (remember, I'm over 18). I truly believe that Mr. A's attention to detail and teaching style are the reasons I got over my fear and now feel like a safe driver. I wish I found Mr. A when I was in high school! I want to highlight the key aspects of learning to drive with Mr. A: -Mr. A didn't overwhelm me with information. He gave bite-sized information and tips that were easy to remember. -His in-the-moment feedback is calm, direct, and effective -Mr. A can relate to a lot of people and is easy to talk to, which put me at ease -He knows this area inside out and can identify exactly the best spot to level up the complexity of driving (turns, speed, lights, necessary lane changes, parallel parking, traffic, and so on) -Mr. A is really good at figuring out the appropriate amount of challenge while gaining skill. I did a lot of research when searching for a driving instructor. I looked up the most popular driving schools in the area and Rakoda had the most recommendations from unique users on different Facebook parent groups. I can confirm that Mr. A is knowledgeable, patient, encouraging, and effective. He truly wants to help his students become excellent, safe, and informed drivers. Fantastic experience: So, with the most hectic 2 years in our lives, we had to postpone my daughter's behind the wheel. As we finally searched, no area courses had times available within standard hours that did not coincide with the school day, or the wait periods were extensive. Rakoda was outstanding - Not only did the school work as much as possible with our impossible schedule, Mr. A ensured that my daughter's safety and my piece of mind were at the top of the list for all learning. In addition to Behind the Wheel, we added a One on One course to make sure "I", the mom, could feel good about my daughter being out on the road. The level of instruction was superior as Mr. A not only enforced safe driving techniques for her to master complete control of the car, but also tireless made sure she understood the importance behind every move and action she made with the car. His guidance was friendly but firm to check and double check that she knew what she was doing and how to drive safely and appropriately, at all times, and in all conditions, including dark roads on the beltway with way too many cars for my liking (smile!). When she got her license, we were thrilled, We felt that the level of instruction was far beyond anything her friends had learned at other school. Above all, his ability to connect with his students is amazing. I know that Maggie's trust in his knowledge and expertise are what allowed her to be so successful (and become such a great, great driver!) Drivers ed and behind the wheel with him wasn't just about driving in a car and being bored it was so much more than that. He taught me how to drive and I learned to enjoy it. Fantastic experience: Mr. A is seriously the best driving teacher out there. He's also a fun PE teacher (I had him when I was in elementary school as well!). He not only teaches you the basics, but he goes above and beyond and gives you the smallest tips on the road that can make the biggest difference - it's not something you can find everyday. He's an amazing person with the kindest heart and a true family man, and he is always there to support you. He's highly flexible and accommodating to your needs.
