Fantastic experience: Olympic Driving School is wonderful. The staff are all professional, friendly, and responsive. Terri Reed was the main private instructor our son had, and she is amazing. She helped him to be calm and confidant and to learn the things he needed to pass the test. He also had one drive lesson with Tom Babbit, who is also very supportive and encouraging. We highly recommend this school!

Fantastic experience: I got my drivers license today because of Terri Reed!!! She seriously is one of the best drivers instructors I’ve ever encountered. I’ve done over 10 private driving lessons with her and if you have anxiety about driving she helps you through that. I was born and raised in nyc and I took trains everywhere. I really doubted myself when it came to learning how to drive. She was always so calm and understanding with me. Terri really gave me a boost of confidence to get out on the road and trust myself! She truly cares about her students and the safety of others! I couldn’t have done it without her! I would also love to thank Steve for always being so helpful and kind with helping when it came to scheduling. The staff is so respectful and kind!

Fantastic experience: I just got my driver's license thanks to Terri Reed!!! As a neurodivergent person with severe anxiety, I was too scared to practice driving until I was 27. Terri gave me a lot of confidence-building lessons, which not only helped me become a safer driver but also improved my overall confidence. I always doubted myself growing up, but thanks to Terri, I became more confident and learned to trust myself. Terri was highly accommodating and kept changing her teaching style and methods until we found an approach that worked for me. Thanks to her, I learned to process my surroundings and translate my thoughts into actions. I learned things about myself I didn't know during the process. I'm always amazed by how astute and flexible she is. But what stood out to me the most was her genuine care for her students and everyone’s safety. She has a big heart, and she remembers her former students and worries about them. She also made sure I got my money's worth out of every lesson. I don’t think I could have gotten my driver’s license with any other instructor. I also took a lesson with Ana Torres, and she was fabulous as well. I really appreciated Steve and Brandon’s help with administrative matters—they were so respectful and kind. I’m so grateful to the teachers and staff at this driving school. :)

Negative experience: If i could put 0 stars i would, the instructor for the written test will fail you every-time no matter how many times you thoroughly look at the trick questions, answer differently, no matter how much studying you do your gonna get a fail every-time, this facility has a habit of money grabbing and covers it up by passing a few select of students to get by, you take away the retake policy after i paid $35+ to take the written test while also promising a retake everytime i pay, ill take my business elsewhere and go to shady shack and get my licence the same day dont waste your time nor your money here the service is terrible

Thank you for confirming that we hold ourselves to the highest level of standards and ethics, and that we’re not one of those “shady shacks” where you can just walk in and out with a license in the same day. Wow, what a damning admission from this reviewer! But, to clarify for other readers, our Knowledge Exam proctors do NOT have the ability or authority to selectively pass or fail exam applicants. The only way an applicant can fail their Knowledge Exam is by demonstrating a lack of knowledge through too many missed answers on the multiple-choice exam. In other words, the person taking the exam is wholly responsible for the outcome of their exam. In this case, the reviewer is taking no accountability for their lack of preparation and/or understanding of the required material, and instead they are choosing to deflect blame onto people who literally have no control over whether or not someone passes the State’s exam (we don’t write the tests; the Department of Licensing writes them and we grade them). If you don’t think a human should grade your test, we conveniently offer an online version of the same exam whereby it is graded automatically by the system. And, we offer it for even cheaper than the paper exam! You can even use your own device so you know there is no tampering. Again, however, this reviewer is simply unhappy that they didn’t pass their test and wants us to be at fault when in reality that simply isn’t possible.

Negative experience: My daughter recently took her driving test at Olympia Driving School and was given an automatic fail for something that didn't happen. When she asked for clarification, she was questioned in a way that made her feel like she was being accused. She even suggested reviewing the cameras to prove her point. If there's an automatic fail at the start of the test, students should be informed immediately so their time isn't wasted finishing the driving test. I agree with the other comments saying that this place is a money grab. Very disappointed with the experience.was tested by a MRS TERRI

Olympic Driving School
Olympic Driving School

We know that failing a drive exam can be upsetting and we're sorry your daughter did not pass on this attempt. Unfortunately, this review is simply not an accurate accounting of what transpired. The exam applicant in question failed their exam because they ran a red light - which we think the general populace would agree is something for which one should fail their exam. This violation took place around 3/4 of the way through the exam, and it is DOL policy that the examiner not tell the applicant that they failed until they have safely returned to the parking lot and secured the vehicle. Once the applicant was informed that they were disqualified, they debated the issue with the examiner, to which the examiner pointed out that the exam had been recorded and the footage would confirm that they indeed ran a red light. The people who accuse our business of being a money grab all have one thing in common: they failed their exam. Fortunately, around 70% of applicants DO pass their exam, but the sheer nature of it being a test implies that some people won't obtain a score necessary to pass. We know this can be upsetting, but we hold ourselves accountable to a high standard of ethics and service quality, and reject any notion that applicants are failed just so they can be retested as a means of collecting more money. Wouldn't that be just plain bad for business if true?

Fantastic experience: I was always anxious about getting my license but life had other plans. Recieved news I was having my first child so I signed up paid for and attended the classes and then the drives. I had severe anxiety getting behind a wheel but this place has amazing teachers each and every one of them. Over 15 years of self doubt and the little voice in my head saying you will never do it was melted away, but specifically by Terri Reed. She was my main teacher during my drives, she made me feel as relaxed as possible and after the drives id get some "homework" which vastly improved my driving by the time I took my final test. I loved the classes and the drives I highly recommend this place to anyone with a teenager or someone you may know who has severe anxiety about driving. I loved it here, and I will likely bring my child to them later on in his life.

Fantastic experience: I had an overwhelmingly positive experience with Olympic Driving School. I recently moved back to the US after 5 years abroad and needed to start the whole license process from scratch. Started with the knowledge exam which was on-site using their laptop. After passing that, i booked the “practice and test” session. Fred took me out, got me used to the car, showed me how the test would go and we proceeded from there. Fred was helpful and professional the whole time and helped set my nerves at ease. I successfully passed (yay!) and would gladly recommend ODS to folks of any age.

Fantastic experience: I highly recommend this driving school. The front desk staff, Christina and Jessie are very responsive and took the time to determine what I needed. My instructors, Ralph and Terry were incredible! They were patient, knowledgeable and in 4 private lessons built up my confidence, skills and knowledge. The school is welcoming and the entire staff is invested in your success!

Fantastic experience: I started driving very late in life due to various factors, and my anxiety on the road is well above average, which has hindered my ability to successfully get my license in the past. I decided to take a chance with Olympic Driving School, and it changed my life. I booked a warm up lesson before my skills test and my instructor, Terri Reed, was immediately able to put me at ease during it. Because of this, I was able to finally able to get my driver's license! Being able to drive myself to work has changed the trajectory for the rest of my life. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about Terri and the rest of the staff at Olympic Driving School. Thank you so much!

Jesse Diepeveen 1 year ago

Negative experience: This school has all the earmarks of a money grabbing scam. Instructors can't agree on what is or isn't a failing event, after a "fail" the instructor offers "private lessons" outside of the driving school. When asked about reviewing dash cam footage to verify if a failure actually occurred you're given excuses as to why they won't do that. I would avoid this company at all costs. The fact the state privatized something legally required is asinine to begin with but welcome to Washington I guess...

Olympic Driving School
Olympic Driving School

Jesse, we too are always disappointed when exam applicants don’t pass their exams. While over 70% of applicants PASS their Skills Exam, some applicants need to take it more than once before they pass. Applicants cannot drive over curbs with multiple tires and run red lights and pass their exams – something we think the general public would agree with here. The applicant in question here (who is not the person who left this review) was in tears after their second failed attempt and expressed to their instructor that they simply felt very anxious being tested. In response, the instructor explained that anxious testers often benefit from a testing package that allows for 30 mins of practice before the exam, and the instructor added the caveat that other driving schools offer the same package too and that the applicant should consider any school where they would feel comfortable. Your accusation that we’re a “money grabbing scam” is insulting to the wonderful instructors/examiners who do a job very few people would ever be brave enough to do. To readers of this response, you’ll see that our responses are usually a bit more professional, but this reviewer has shown no such professionalism towards us. After the exam applicant failed the first time, the reviewer called our school and demanded to speak to a manager. He berated our staff, using profanities (f-bombs) and hurling other insults. One of our managers, who happens to be a Master Examiner (a rare credential among examiners) offered to retest the applicant and scheduled a time to do so. They never showed up. Then, they retook the test with another examiner today. After the applicant ran a red light, the reviewer again called our office and again used profane language as they vented their frustrations with people who are just trying to enforce the rules of the WA Department of Licensing. We are perfectly ok for the reviewer to take their business elsewhere. I am sure the exam applicant will pass at some point (maybe even their first time at another institution; we can only hope!), but we will certainly no longer do business with this person, not because they left a harsh review, but entirely because of the way that they treated our staff. Not acceptable.

Fantastic experience: I am a mature person returning to driving after a long absence due to vision issues which were finally corrected. I delayed longer than necessary out of test anxiety, but my whole experience here was incredibly supportive. The staff are organized, professional, and welcoming. My instructor, Terri Reed, put me at ease immediately and taught me a ton of useful skills and tips I wish I had known years ago. In three lessons I regained my confidence and passed my test. Back on the road, happy and a better driver. Terri also helped my son go from newbie to safe, licensed driver in just a few weeks. Highly recommend ODS and Terri!!!

Negative experience: Update to reply: Your first sentence of your reply is a prime example of what I'm speaking of. You state that you take the reviews and feedback seriously so you can take action promptly. Yet I posted my review 3 months ago, updated it 2 months ago and you just now responded. Of course you're going to say that it goes against your policy, I don't doubt you have policy in place. It's whether or not that policy was followed, which it was not. You can say there was discrepancies in the details of my review but I 100% stand behind my review of this organization. Everyone from the receptionist to the instructors are disorganized, poorly managed, and lack the skills needed to teach. I think you take advantage of people, especially young adults who may lack the ability to speak up which is extra angering. This is not my first complaint. I did call you on other occasions to discuss previous complaints with little to no resolve. There had been repeat issues with your organization, which did not occur with the other organization. So.... Again, I 100% stand by my review which I'm entitled to regardless of how much you want to come in and try to defend it. I don't like those that take advantage of children, especially children who are trying to learn and I will discourage anybody I come across from using your location and that's that. No phone call is going to change that. You had your chance and you FAILED. My daughter PASSED! UPDATE: I am confident they are failing people on purpose. My daughter just took the test at another school without any additional education or training and aced it DoNOT use this school. I'm pretty sure they fail people on purpose just so they can charge for a second testing. My daughter attended multiple training sessions and they did not provide any actionable feedback to help her improve her driving. They just kept asking "what does she want to practice". If she knew what she had to practice she wouldn't need to go to the school. For example, if a driver needs to back around a corner as part of the testing. Perhaps you train her on how to back around a corner. If she's not looking in her mirrors enough coach her and let her know she needs to practice looking in her mirrors. That's what I paid them to do. I can let her drive around all day in the car but they're the specialist. They should be observing the students driving and then provide them coaching. Instead, they fail her 3 minutes into her driving test and then charge for a second. Of course there's no real proof because it's the instructor's word against the students so they get away with it. I strongly suggest you look into a different school.

Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention. We take feedback seriously and aim to address any issues promptly. After reviewing our records, we found discrepancies in the details provided in your review. However, we understand your frustration and sincerely apologize if your daughter's experience did not meet your expectations. Regarding your feedback about actionable coaching, we want to clarify that our instructors do provide specific feedback and guidance to help students improve their driving skills. It's essential for us to tailor our instruction to meet each student's needs and address areas for improvement. We encourage open communication between our instructors and students to ensure a productive learning experience. This communication is reflected on your student's drive sheet, but again, we apologize if this feedback did not get communicated to you directly. It's important to note that failing a driving test within the first few minutes typically indicates a significant violation of traffic laws or safety protocols, which necessitates the immediate termination of the test for safety reasons. Our priority is always the safety of our students and other road users. We want to assure you that our school operates with integrity and in full compliance with the regulations set forth by the Washington Department of Licensing (DOL). Any suggestion of intentionally failing students for financial gain is not only unfounded but goes against our commitment to fostering safe and competent drivers. We understand your disappointment, and we would welcome the opportunity to address your concerns directly. Please feel free to contact us at (360) 358-5311 to discuss this matter further. Your feedback is valuable to us as we strive to improve our services. Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention.

Fantastic experience: I did 14 lessons with Terri Reed and she was also the examiner for my skills test. I'm 26 and I never learned to drive because it gave me horrible anxiety. Terri is an excellent teacher, very calm and laid back, and great at explaining things in a way that makes sense. She changed my life and helped me overcome one of the biggest sources of stress I've ever faced. I will be forever grateful

Sydney McConnell 2 years ago

Positive experience: EDIT: I'm raising my rating because someone did reach out to me today about my concerns and did their best to make things right and address my concerns. Leaving the original rating below. Their system is supposed to auto generate reminder emails, but it was not doing so for either my phone number or email. They did get the email working but not the text. So if this is your problem, there may be they can get it to work for you too. They also were able to schedule out the remaining of my kiddos drive times, which helps so much to just be on a schedule. I'm so grateful. Although they don't have post-drive summaries or comprehensive check lists that come home after each drive to help inform the parents, Tess was kind enough to send a list of what each drive should be about so that I can work with my anxious child before he drives a new car with a new person. I also am very appreciative of this. My original review put them at a two star. Since some of my complaints were not accurate (such as their system not sending reminders) I gave them back a star. I raised it one more star for the customer service I received today. ------------------ I'm having my 3rd child go through driver's Ed with my third company-- we have done a school based program, 911, and this school. This would be the worst of all the options. There is zero flexibility in location, which is difficult with split custody (kids school is midway between the parents houses). The scheduling for drives is clunky, and has no reminders text sent. You can't schedule multiple drives at the same time so it's such a hassle rather than just being able to set a repeating event. The portal is old and clunky and feels like someone's nephews highschool multimedia project. Just got a note "your child is behind so schedule more time" with zero indication of what my child is behind on with regards to driving. So that's frustrating. The other schools gave list of things to work on and check lists so you could really support getting your kid the right sort of drives. I have received almost no communication from this company that is helpful. Overall, I find this place the worst choice in town. If you are weighing options 911 is such a better program.

Fantastic experience: I got driving lessons with Carolyn Toliver at the Olympic driving school and she was the absolute best and teaching me tips and tricks to get over my driving anxieties and thereby become a better driver. Fantastic experience: I was with Miss Terri reed, for instruction during the school last year in August. This AMAZING woman would always come to school with a bright smile on her face, ready to teach us. She is such an amazing person, and she has helped me throughout all of Olympia driving school. Took me some time to finally take my written test, but when I was able to take the written test oraly with Miss Terri she made sure that I understood the question and I was able to answer it. Here I am through it all. Officially a license driver. Because of Miss Terri. Thank you so much for everything!

Negative experience: I had a really bad experience here. First, I made the staff and instructors aware I transferred states and had an expired license because of a military move. What they should have immediately done is explain that military moves causing an expired license are excused & handled for free (just new license printing fee) by the DMV. No, instead they told me I needed to take a written exam AND driving exam. I paid about $120 I believe for both. What is worse than this wasted money was how I was treated. The staff were all friendly except for the female instructor who conducted my physical driving test. She was condescending, rude, and inappropriate. At the end of the test she indicated I had “failed” by half a point but that since I was a “young and naive military wife” she was going to let it “slide.” She also insulted my car multiple times (I had just moved and it was not clean, but not overly dirty just unorganized). I am honestly disappointed with the lack of ethics, stereotyping me as an unintelligent “military wife,” and in general putting their profits over their community (a simple clarification to save me $120, a 30 min written test, a 30 min a driving test). Again, staff other than this instructor were fine. However I do not recommend the business for obvious reasons. EDIT: This was absolutely the correct place. At the time I had a different last name. I would never forget a place that gave me such an experience.

Miranda, your experience sounds terrible! However, are you sure your left this review under the right school? We don’t have any record of any customers with your name - and we keep excellent records by law. Also, the pricing you mentioned for the services you received simply don’t match our school’s pricing. It wouldn’t be the first time someone confused our school with that of another famous mountain range in WA. Perhaps you can check again? If it was us then please call (360) 358-5311 and ask to speak to a manager so we can get the issue settled and get you a refund if possible.

Positive experience: This is a good driving school for cisgender people. The general skill of the instructors and in class learning part were good, at least better than what I’ve heard about other driving schools in the area, see other 5-star reviews. As a trans guy, I sort of dreaded going to class or doing drives. The website has a preferred name option, which is great! … Except only one driving instructor (I believe it was Carolyn, thank you!) ever used my preferred name. I don’t have a lot of confidence in correcting people in public, so it wasn’t very surprising that people constantly used “she/her” pronouns. Some instructors even told me things like “Attagirl” when I did something correctly on a drive. It made me feel disgusted, honestly. Also, since I’ve seen the driving school responding to other reviews, I have some suggestions. First, having more options than just male/female on your website would be amazing. DOL licenses in WA have an X option, and y’all don’t. Also, a pronoun section on student paperwork would have been awesome. Driving can be a scary learning curve, and I’m proud of how much I’ve learned thanks to the school. However, being treated like someone I’m not is a punch in the gut and took a huge toll on my confidence. I hoped this review is helpful to other trans people who are getting their liscense.

Hi Cass, thank you for providing your feedback. I sincerely apologize that you were made to feel anything less than who you are, and while I believe our staff truly try to treat everyone with a high level of respect, I see that we can do better and will make changes where possible. As for your suggestions, our website is hosted by a software company that makes our scheduling software. I have asked them in the past to add more gender options, pronoun options, etc., but was basically told that my request wouldn't be a high priority. If you send me an email to [email protected] I can send you the contact info to the software company so you can tell them your story and experience using their software and how it can be improved. I think this would have a bigger impact than any request coming from me. They need to hear a real-life example of how being misgendered impacts people. Our student drive sheets have a Preferred Pronoun field that the instructors are supposed to populate at a student's first lesson. I do not know why this wasn't done in your case, but I will see to it that the staff are retrained on the importance of collecting this information for all of our students. When it comes to testing, we must use DOL-approved forms and unfortunately those forms do not have a place to indicate a preferred name or preferred pronouns. Again, I can provide you with contact info for people at the DOL for you to share you story and perhaps they will change the forms to enable schools like us to know how to better refer to our customers. We do have some confusion about this situation on our end. As you mentioned, our website presently has a preferred name field, but in your profile it was populated with a shorter version of your given name and not the name you actually prefer to use. I believe this caused confusion among our instructors. Perhaps someone registered on your behalf and didn't populate the information we would need in order to call you by your true preferred name? Regardless, what's important is how you felt throughout your experience with us. Again, I apologize for those negative feelings and hope we can do better for others in the future.

Fantastic experience: I highly recommend Olympic Driving School. The process from scheduling and taking a written exam and private driving lessons to taking the road test was so smooth, the staff was very accommodating especially my instructor, Ms. Terri Reed. Not only did she teach me kindly and calmly, she was also patient and encouraging. She was very professional, knowledgeable and gave me a lot of advice. I have never driven before I took the written exam and private lessons. Ms. Terri was able to help me learn safe driving and pass the road test within 5 private lessons. Thank you so much, Ms. Terri for the unforgettable learning experience!

Fantastic experience: Want to give a Thank You to Terri. Terri is very patient and professional with students that have anxiety and get nervous at tests. I highly recommend Terri as your driving instructor.

Negative experience: this driving school is fun! the breaks are nice and there’s lots of food options literally next door. :) I’ll remember this class for awhile. The only reason i remove star is because they weren’t really pushy with their discipline. All month our class was constantly chaotic and kids were disruptive. All that was sent was an email for what i know. It felt like a very nerve wracking environment and i wish the instructors would correct the behaviors more firmly. These students are going to be soon adults and they are allowed to act so obnoxiously? especially in an environment like a driving school. Other peoples lives are on the line when it comes to driving. Including the obnoxious students. I wish it was taken more seriously

Fantastic experience: Terri was awesome! They made the process easy and worry free. Quick and detailed help! I recommend everyone go here. Better than 911 Driving school. Thank you Terri, you made my test easy, and relaxing.

Fantastic experience: I took 10 driving lessons with Terri Reed and it was incredibly helpful. She was a great teacher - really calm, kind, encouraging, and gave tons of practical advice for how to be a good driver. She was also extremely accommodating of my schedule and the school was really flexible about rescheduling lessons if I needed to. And at the end I passed my driving test very comfortably. Overall, would highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: My partner and I both got pretty late starts to driving - we're both 24, neurodivergent, and we've been too nervous for years to be able to feel like we could ever handle driving. We decided to finally buckle down and get our licenses, so we registered here for private driving lessons. Our instructor Carolyn was amazing. She was so kind and understanding when we were starting our learning slower than average, and she was even able to help us get back on track with other students' pacing. She really made us feel like we could do it, and now I have my driver's license, and my partner has their skills test scheduled and coming up. I don't think we could've done it if it wasn't for her and how supportive of us she's been. Definitely recommend!!

Fantastic experience: I can't thank Olympic Driving enough, and specifically Terri Reed. I'm an autistic adult and don't have a lot of time to practice with the people in my life, so I've gone with the one on one lessons, and Terri has absolutely gone above and beyond with making sure I'm taken care of, moreso than is even expected of her. Always friendly, and always kind. I felt supported, celebrated and at home. So happy I ended up coming here, and recommending Olympic to all of my loved ones in my life.

Negative experience: Instructors were rude and double booked friends driving test. As well as the instructor told her she cannot ask questions. Which was hard for her since she had hard time hearing Fred and needed clarification on his instructions but was told she can't ask questions. Think Fred needs to learn to communicate better and speak up because his poor communication my friend wasn't able to understand and asked questions on clarification of the directions. Simple stuff that instructors should be able to do. I'm really disappointed in this driving school and their integrity.

Olympic Driving School
Olympic Driving School

We understand how disappointing it is to fail a drive test and truly hope for successful outcomes for your friend. The instructions and limitations we have as examiners come from the WA Department of Licensing. There are some questions that we cannot answer while administering a test, and others that we can answer. This is made clear to all applicants at the beginning of each exam, but we apologize if your friend thought she could not ask any questions at all. For all other readers of this review, please know that Fred was able to explain all of the reasons that the applicant failed their drive test, in detail, and that the poster of this review attempted to engage Fred in a debate over the matter. Fred did a great job of explaining the applicant's score, but eventually told the reviewer that he would no longer engage and that the reviewer should contact the owner, which he did not do.

Mr Waffles 3 years ago

Positive experience: Driving sessions last 15 or 20 minutes. Which means each student gets 10 minutes of actual driving. As far as I can tell all they do is ride with them for a few minutes and then give them a laundry list of things to work on. So instead of teaching skills and working with students they say “you’re bad at this, work on it”. But he eventually passed and alls well.

Olympic Driving School
Olympic Driving School

Mr Waffles, we apologize for what appears to be unmanaged expectations around what your student would experience by taking their driving test (Skills Exam) with us. To clarify, the driving test is different than driving lessons, which are one hour. Per DOL, the drive test should last between 15-20 minutes from the time the examiner approaches the vehicle to conduct the pre-exam vehicle inspection. All applicants are given the same test using defined test routes, and points are deducted as errors are made. At the end of the test the applicant is told whether or not they qualified (passed) and they are given feedback regarding any deducted points. Per DOL, we are not allowed to teach or instruct as part of a drive test - because it is a test and not a lesson. It would appear you were expecting something different - and again we apologize if we set expectations that varied from actuality. We congratulate your student on passing their test and wish them safe journeys for life.

Olympic Driving School

This one is our fault, and we apologize. Your son got double-booked and unfortunately you received the brunt of the error on our side. We’re thankful that you allowed us to make this up to you by rescheduling the drive exam with one of our managers, at your convenience, and the cost of the test was refunded and done for free. We know it doesn’t completely make up for your time lost, but again, thank you for giving us a chance to redeem the underwhelming treatment from the first time around.

Fantastic experience: Terri Reed is one of the best instructors I've had between any educational facility. High school, college, job training, etc. Terri blew so many out of the water with her adaptation to my learning style, calm adjustment to my techniques, and general meditative vibe which she conveyed to ease my driving anxiety. 10 years ago I was hit by a truck while riding a bicycle, and my perspective on driving shifted for the worse. I was terrified for a long time, and after finally getting behind the wheel over the last year, I continued to struggle with immense driving anxiety every time I took a turn (let alone parallel parked). I received a 92 today. I wasn't shaking, I didn't have to pull over and get out of the car . . . I wasn't scared. Nervous, sure, but not scared. Thank you Terri, and thank you Olympic Driving School for employing her. I'm very thankful for your presence in my community, and for putting safe drivers on the road.

Kristine G 3 years ago

Negative experience: Showed up to the first day of class and the instructor refused to mask. The class is small hot and crowded with poor ventilation. The students are encouraged to eat and drink during class as well. It appears they're not following any COVID guidelines. In addition, no study materials would've been provided, all instruction is via PowerPoint and the students are encouraged to take pictures of important slides, they're not given access to the materials. I immediately removed my student. Would not recommend. I was also told my money would be refunded. It's been almost 2 months and they never issued a refund.

Olympic Driving School
Olympic Driving School

After making several attempts to contact this person we have reached the conclusion that they have no interest allowing us to fix our mistakes or clear up some of the incorrect accusations in this post. Kristine, we are deeply sorry that you left having had a negative experience at our school. This is our first-ever 1 Star review, which we hope speaks to other readers of this comment that the assertions Kristine is making are not at all how we try to run our business. We would like to address each of your concerns individually: First, our classroom is not small, hot, and having poor ventilation – though we certainly see why it felt that way. Unfortunately, our office person working this day was newer to the job and did not know that the classroom needed to be prepped in a special way for Parent’s Night. Typically, the tables are removed and the chairs are placed so everyone has ample room for comfort. The temperature is also usually turned down so it feels cool rather than hot. These things did not get done, and again we apologize for the discomfort. We wish you would have vocalized your concern so we could have fixed it right away. Concerning the instructor not wearing a mask, and our COVID guidelines generally, again we wish you would have raised your concerns at the time so we could discuss how we work hard to make sure everyone stays safe. It is true that the instructor is permitted to remove their mask as long as they remain a minimum of 6ft from the audience. This practice is similar to when the Governor gives a press conference and removes his mask so the audience can hear without the sound being muffled. In reviewing the security footage from this evening, it does not appear that the instructor was ever asked to wear their mask – which she would have gladly done had someone expressed the desire for her to do so. We do allow our students to eat and drink in the classroom, so long as social distancing permits it. This is no different than when students eat lunch together at school. Our students come to us right after school and oftentimes right after sports. We do not want them to starve or else they will not be able to concentrate and learn the material that is designed to keep them safe on the road. It is also true that we do not typically distribute our course materials. But, that is because our course is designed around a paperless, PowerPoint-based, instructor-led curriculum that has proven to be highly successful for our students since we opened nearly 5 years ago. That said, we are happy to accommodate our students who are not visual learners in whatever way works best for them. We have, in the past, printed our slides for some students who truly needed it. Again, we wish you would have asked if there was an alternative to what was presented during the Parent’s Night presentation. Had you asked to speak to one of our managers we think you would have found that they would bend over backwards to try to keep your business. If we cannot earn your business back we hope you are able to find another school that meets your expectations. Best of luck to you and your new driver.

Negative experience: I am disappointed with this driving school. My daughter intellectually delay and has learning disabilities. 3 times she has not passed her written exam. I asked to see what question she missed so she could study them. Well it's against the law but they could write down the sections she needs to study which does not help her. She drives well but she has trouble reading and passing the test. I feel she being discriminated because of her disability. We will be going to a different driving school. She will never get her driver's license if she stay with with this driving school.

Olympic Driving School
Olympic Driving School

Ms. Parks, Thank you for bringing this concern to our attention. We strive to make sure that all of our customers receive the same superb level of customer service and we are saddened that you left disappointed. It would appear that your complaint is that we are unwilling to violate WA Department of Licensing policy by showing the test after it has been turned in. You state so yourself that “…it’s against the law but they could write down the sections she needs to study…” – the same solution we offer to all test applicants when they wish to know which questions they missed. If this is the case then I commend my team for following the directives given to them by our governing body, the WA Department of Licensing. If not the case, please consider removing this review and allow me to brainstorm other possible solutions with you so your daughter has everything she needs to pass her exam. Please feel free to contact our office at (360) 358-5311 and ask to speak with Scott.

Fantastic experience: I have always had an anxiety with driving and have been to different driving schools in the past. Olympic driving school by far has been the best. The reason being the staff. My instructors made sure to find out exactly what I was struggling with and helped me with that. Tom was excellent! He is very knowledgeable and friendly. He made sure to calm my nerves down and taught me really well. Taylor was wonderful too. She was very detailed in explaining things to me. I also had the pleasure of interacting with Scott the owner who was very polite and friendly. They were flexible with my scheduling and their receptionist (Emily I think) was very courteous. Overall, the staff are professional and highly skilled! Winston their dog was a bonus.

Fantastic experience: WOW! I couldn’t believe how FREINDLY and SUPER accommodating the staff there! Tom who unlike the last place my wife went to get her driving test done (WMST in Everett) introduced himself (Tom) and put her at ease right away, insured her that He was there to ensure she understood that he wanted her to do her best without being nervous and because English is her second language took the time to make sure his direction was clear. I took my wife to a walk-in drive test center in Everett (WMST) so she could take the test because We only in Washington part of the time as I work for the US Navy in Canada. He gave her vague directions and failed her after she didn’t understand exactly what he wanted her to do. The guy was rigid and intimidating. You can see my review there the instructor didn’t even introduce himself and intimidated her from the start. My wife got a 92 here with TOM after failing just 2 days before at WMST. THANK YOU OLYMPIC DRIVING SCHOOL and TOM!! I have given you referrals already!!

Fantastic experience: Best driving school in town. The entire staff is fantastic, the instructors patient and knowledgeable, and the location is so convenient. The school is walking distance from the high school, and next door to restaurants and Starbucks if the kids need to get there early or stay later waiting for a parent pick-up. The school is flexible and works with your child to schedule the drives around their schedules, and the personalized instruction is top-notch. They teach the classroom information in a way that's actually interesting and engaging to teenagers and captures their attention, rather than only dryly reading from a book. My daughter felt knowledgeable and confident after completing their course, and I recommend this school to everyone we know. Tom was an excellent driving instructor, and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. The staff is friendly, caring, and engages personally with each student. They leave there fully prepared for their driving test (which they conduct on-site), and feeling as if they were taught by friends. Highly recommend.
