Fantastic experience: 10 out of 10 experience. Just recently obtained my CDL A. Chris was my instructor and even though the testing process is very thorough he was sure to teach every step the correct way to get me to pass my first time. Very nice and friendly people and I would recommend anyone who is trying to obtain a CDL to get in touch with Humphrey’s.

Fantastic experience: The people here are genuinely some of the kindest and easy to get along with people I've ever had the pleasure to interact with. I was quite intimidated to start the process of getting my CDL but Chris is an amazing teacher and with his help I passed my test first try. They're good people here and deserve your business!

Fantastic experience: I went to Humphreys to get my CDL, although the curriculum is tedious and a little challenging, Brandon will teach you everything you need to know to pass the test. If you are hesitating or practicing at home, don’t waste your time. The training is very specific and they will teach you exactly what you need to know.

Fantastic experience: As active duty member of the US military for over 35 years I can say with confidence that I have received some of the world best training and instruction. Humphrey’s CDL B with air brakes instruction is in this same high level of professional training experience! I recently completed 8days (7days x 3 hours/day and the 2.5-3hour test) of training to safety operate a CDL B school bus with air brakes. I had zero knowledge of requirements and was not prepared for the instruction or information other that the State of Michigan CDL Manual and taking the Michigan SOS written exams and ELDT online videos. Humphrey’s learner centered methodology provided me the confidence, knowledge and understanding to thoroughly inspect, safely operate and successfully conduct the skills needed to pass the driving test and safely operate a school bus! Arguably one of the most important jobs in our community! I spent extra hours on my own reviewing my notes and processes for the vehicle inspection and the “dreaded air break test”! I also spent time rewriting my notes to help memorize the information for the inspection and operations steps. If a student doesn’t pass it’s because they haven’t followed the methodology and instructions. Lastly, I was impressed by the incredible professionalism and personal attention to details and integrity of the processes that Brandon, my instructor provided! He answered my questions and addressed my anxieties and fears with positive feedback and a reinforcement of the process. I passed the 3 part test on the first try. This would not have happened without the thorough and high level of professional instruction. Thank you and great job in ensuring safe drivers are on the road!

Negative experience: Mr.Purvis was 20 mins late for my test, he threw a fit over a simple question my dad asked, and proceeded to tell us that we could not test anymore but then we ended up being able to do it, he was not the best of an instructor you could find a way better place to test. Waste of 85 dollars.

Fantastic experience: Mr. Humphrey was awesome. I was super comfortable throughout the whole road test and passed!

Negative experience: The normal testing instructor- Mr. Humphrey- is very nice. Unfortunately he’s out of work for months at a time due to health issues. The other tester is not so nice. I failed my test 4 times here for reasons unclear to me or the people I took with me. They’d charge me $85 every single time, say “yeah you did the maneuvers perfectly BUT we’re still failing you.“ I drove out to Advantage in St Johns and passed it the first time. The day after I passed in St Johns, I had disposable cash and my license hadn’t updated in the SOS so I asked Humphreys to let me take 1 more test. I didn’t even make it onto the road before he failed me again. *I had a license and still failed their driving test.* I’ve had multiple friends fail here repeatedly. Normally about 4 times before they’re even let onto the road. They make money off you not passing and they know they’re the only testing location in the county. Drive out to any other place and you’ll have better chances of actually getting a license. Or at least until Mr. Humphrey comes back.

Fantastic experience: Great guy and great test! They sent a pdf with everything you'll be expected to do on test day, and go over everything again before you're asked to do it. Very friendly and really put me at ease for my test both before and during.

Fantastic experience: My son was so nervous to take his test. Mr. Humphrey made it an enjoyable experience for him and I. He worked with my son in the parking lot to get him psyched for the test. Great experience will be taking the rest of my kids there for testing. And yes he passed today at 10:45 am the 1st of March. 2023

Negative experience: My daughter paid 85 for a driving test Didn't leave the parking lot was there for 10min .Didn't go over the paperwork correctly .Told her she wasn't in the square and correct yourself And when she did Didn't communicate well with her.Definitely taking advantage of a kid that's 18 years old reporting him to the state .This place is a scam.

Negative experience: It’s a total scam. They charge $85 to take the test and won’t pass you the first time. They won’t even let you go on the road. They make you take it again and then they pass you. Complete waste of money and a total scam.

Negative experience: I had taken my test here and i know they have to fail at least 40% of the people that come through. The guy Ed was terrible with communication. My mom and I could barely hear him talk. He had said he would raise his hand to let me know to stop and never once did. He only told us that he couldn’t answer questions at the end of the test, never once said anything about what he can and can not do. He was unprofessional and just wanted to get out of there. After he said I failed he told me everything i did wrong AFTER he had said he couldn’t say anything. He was very unclear and just mumbled the WHOLE TIME. Not worth the $85. They just take your money. Wouldn’t recommend at all.

Negative experience: They don't do what they say they are going to do At the beginning and don't give you a chance to to redo it. $75 for 10 minutes is perty expensive.

Negative experience: If I could give 0 I would, I was set up to fail as someone who hadn't taken drivers training there. Nothing was communicated with me and only after I failed was I told the expectations. Everyone I have driven with told me I was ready, that I would pass, then I didn't. I felt like a failure. Left crying, going somewhere else this Friday, wish me luck.

Fantastic experience: An amazing experience and a wonderful set of instructors really happy to have gone to Humphreys

Negative experience: Went there to take my road test, guy had an attitude right away for no reason. Parallel parking test was not to state specs and failed me because of it. They gave me a study packet and I noticed when I got home I was supposed to have 6ft between my vehicle and the cones once I was all the way parked and there was only about 2 foot of room and proceeded to call me a liar. When I called to ask about the specs on the test MR. Humphrey himself called me a liar, wouldn’t let me speak, and proceeded to tell me to take my Fing business elsewhere and then hung up in my face. Would not recommend this place to anyone.

Fantastic experience: My daughter took her road test today with Ed.....He was AMAZING, so friendly and made my Daughter Paige and myself so comfortable, he was talkative which I think helped ease my daughters nervousness to a low level, I highly recommend having any new driver go here

Negative experience: My buddies wife took the class with a guy named Brandon. He did nothing but hit on her and flirt with her to the point a complaint was almost filed. Apparently it should have been. He still won’t leave her alone.

Fantastic experience: Had a WONDERFUL experience at Humphrey’s today with my daughter for her driving test. The tester (I believe his name was Ed) was fantastic, very friendly and helpful - not intimidating! We are extremely happy we heard about them.

Fantastic experience: I had a great experience taking my driver's test here. The instructor never had a problem with all my questions and was very good at letting me take my time and helping me feel relaxed. Even when I thought I did everything wrong, he always took a second to explain how I actually did well. For the skills test he let me get out of the car and see that I wasn't as bad as I thought to calm my nerves.

Negative experience: I went to Humphrey Driving school to get my license. Showed up, the person doing the test had an attitude before we started, got frustrated with me cause I could not start the car, he had given me the wrong key. Read off the information he had to with an attitude. Finally started the parking portion of the test, and he seemed to be in a hurry the whole time. When I didn't pass, he did not explain why or any areas I needed to improve in. Just I failed and I needed to go. Come back when I'm ready. Would not recommend going here. Went to a different place passed with no problems.

Negative experience: ⚠️‼️This is the worst experience I’ve had with a business. Very unprofessional to start, came out covered in food, and was very short and rude. When the test began I was only read a couple sentences then sent on my way. I wasn’t told the rules and the cones weren’t checked or fixed before the session. We mentioned something about the cones but was ignored. This place is more expensive than ANY of the other places I have looked at and when the test was over the instructor was very rude and asked if I had ever driven before. Two days later I took my test elsewhere for 30$ cheaper in a way busier area in Flint and did perfectly fine and passed with not a single issue. After reading deeper into the reviews for the road test I’m very upset to see that this town known and loved business is getting run under.

Negative experience: This place is about the worst place to go for driving test. The gentleman who was giving the test came out talked to me and my fiancé about the testing he basically told her that she was going to fail the first part of the test because of parallel parking. I sat In the car and watched the testing also filmed it. You are supposed to get 3 try’s for each parking test.when it came to the parallel park test she was on her second try and he failed. I reported Humphreys to Michigan S.O.S.

Fantastic experience: I cannot even express how grateful I am to have found Humphrey's Drivers Training. The office staff, Bonnie and Karen were extremely friendly and accommodating when it came to scheduling my CDL A training and testing. My training was done with Chris, who went above and beyond to make sure I was ready for the pre-trip inspection. He was straightforward, extremely knowledgeable, and let me know when he thought I was ready. I had the pleasure of doing some on-road training with Mr. Humphrey, the man himself, who is an extremely experienced commercial driver with a wealth of valuable information that not only helped prepare me for my road test, but tips I will remember forever. My CDL testing was completed by Dave, who is a true professional and very respectful. With all the anxiousness I had built up going through this venture to acquire my CDL, when I tested with Dave I felt my anxiousness turn to excitement. I would highly recommend anybody that desires to acquire a CDL to choose this family business as they are top of the line. I cannot thank the staff enough for my experience with Humphrey's Driver Training!!

Fantastic experience: Great training, fantastic people. My instructor was Patrick, he was great guy to be trained by. I trained for my Cdl class A. If they believe you need more training before the test they'll tell you if they thank you are ready they will let you know. They will not run you up just to make more money of of you.

Fantastic experience: I took my CDL class A with Humphrey’s. Dave is the man! He is a great instructor, very helpful, and has great knowledge. He explained thoroughly and precise. After I finished with my Pre-Trip class, I felt very confident going into my test. My test went smooth as could be, Chris was very professional, explained all the steps thoroughly, answered my questions that he was allowed to answer. He was very helpful with little tips after I passed my test. I have went to Humphreys since I was 14. I did my segment one and 2 for my license. I have then returned for my motorcycle endorsement, and now my CDL A. I would recommend them to absolutely everyone! Chris, Dave, and Pat have got the company running great, and are extremely helpful. Thanks guys!

Fantastic experience: These guys are great. The weather was being rather uncooperative, and time was running out for me to take my motorcycle road test. These guys went above and beyond to fit me into their busy schedule. Every one I dealt with from Humphrey’s was kind and professional. If you need to take a road test, this is the place to go for a knowledgeable, friendly, and timely staff to take care of you.

Fantastic experience: I had Chris, who showed up on a beautiful Saturday. He was personable, all business when it mattered, and easy going at the same time. I waited until my second riding season to test and, even though I’m so glad that it’s over forever and ever, I had a good experience at Humphrey’s. Thanks, Chris! Vintage on!

Negative experience: Spent more time inspecting my car than doing any form of testing. THEN never DID a driver test, just expected perfect parking by an inexperienced driver using CONES first. Money down the drain. Call it a PARKING TEST if that's what you're so interested in. Should have taken the applicant out on a DRIVING TEST. They have to PARK THE CAR after the DRIVING TEST. Change your sign out front to PARKING TESTING. Where does anyone have to parallel park these days??? Ridiculous.

Negative experience: Stay away. Nice enough people overall. Instructor was fine. On day two he asked me an odd question... "You dont feel like I'm wasting your time trying to get more training time?" No, I did not... it seemed odd but I simply disregarded the question. As it turned out I had trouble getting shifting down and had to go out of state before I would be able to complete more training or test. Their next dates were 6 weeks out. I trained daily on an Eaton 10 and got shifting down. Set up testing with a different 3rd party tester. In training at Humphrey the instructor always did the in cab and air brake checks, then the rest of the inspection and the last thing he'd do is the service brake check. When I did this at test, I immediately failed because I did not complete ALL IN CAB INSPECTION at one time. I took notes. I asked specifically is there any automatic failure in the pretrip besides not doing the air brake check properly. On that point I specifically asked about THE ORDER of inspection and was told NO. I called Humphrey to ask for clarification. When they called me back the office person, Karen, spent 10 minutes explaining how they've been doing this for 20 years and are not aware of that being an automatic failure. Then suddenly at the end of the conversation says well if you dont do everything in cab at one time it's an automatic failure... I The next call from them was to cancel the remaining training and test dates. So I pay you $2k, and that's the treatment. Quite unprofessional. I'd strongly recommend going elsewhere. It would probably be cheaper too.

Positive experience: My kids learn a lot about safe driving

Fantastic experience: Customer service is great. It was easy to reschedule my appointment. Very friendly and it was so relaxing while I was taking driving skills test with the instructer. I was really nervous but he let my husband sit on the back seat to make sure I'm feeling comfortable. We had fun conversion whole time I was driving. Highly recommend this place

Fantastic experience: Mr. Humphrey tested my dughterd he was kind and explained everything to her. He very nicely explained the mistakes she made after she was done with the test. I highly recommend Humphery's for a driver's tstt. So sad he's not testing in our area anymore.

Fantastic experience: Ed has to be one of the most knowledgable and courteous instructors around. I took my test with him back in 2010 and passed. He was very easy-going and took me through all of the paces. I just sat through my fiances test today and he was the same: very polite and professional demeanor while also being cordial and funny. Negative experience: I took my test at the freeland location to get my CDL, the tester was rude and a complete snob. He kept tapping his foot like he didn't want to be there while I was doing my vehicle inspection, very distracting. During the road test he was testing on his cell phone. I passed the secound time around $165 dollars later. On the peice of paper he signed saying I passed the test it said "NO RESTRICTIONS"! Went to security of state to get it onto my license and they had me down on the compter for restriction O which is not valid to operate a tractor trailer combination vehicle with a trailer connected by a 5th wheel. It was very flustrating for me because thats exactly what I took my test in. I did get this issue resolved but it was a overall bad experience for me.

Fantastic experience: Well and pleasent experience, i would recommend the Corruna Branch, the instructor was great and after the test he showed me what i did wrong and what i needed to work on and then he sent me on my way. Some others are upset they failed and i would not recommend listening to such people, just take my advice and decide for yourself.

Fantastic experience: The instructors really teach you well and they add a bit of humor to it to make you not feel so nervous about your first time(s) driving! I took my first and second course here and i had nothing but good things to say! They teach you everything you need to know before your first drive.

Fantastic experience: Great place, my motorcycle safety course took 15min tops. Had my full endorsement that day. Great instructor, nice people too. Easy going, could tell I was a bit over excited, every thing went well.

Negative experience: Absolutely awful. They were nothing less than jerks to us stating that we didn't have proof of insurance when we e-mailed the insurance to them and they said they didn't get it. After 30 minutes of them being rude to us and saying we owed them $20 because they "wasted their time" and to "get our documents and leave" I had to call my dad and make him drive over so he could show them the proof of insurance in person. At that time they said they still needed a e-mail and when they checked the computer they said it wasn't in there. My dad then asked them to look in the spam file and they found it right away. They were absolutely nothing short of down right jerks to us, and I'm suprised that a costomer based company can get away with this. They said to come back again later that day and when we did the instructor said we failed before we even left the parking lot. No cones were knocked over, and the parking was not the problem I promise you. There's one in Durand that is fairly close to this place and has much better reviews from all of my friends who have taken it before. If I could say my experience in one word about Humphrey's, it was AWFUL. WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND!

Fantastic experience: Professional, caring, co operative

Negative experience: I would definitely give this business no stars regarding their driving skills test if that was possible. While we were there the wife at the desk got a call saying there was a cancellation then went onto say that even though there was a waitlist they weren't going to fill the spot with someone from the waitlist so they could get done early. The man running the test was not very personable and he was very soft spoken to the point where my mom who was in the back seat of the car could not hear him speak at all. After the test was done he said he would not even count up the points from the test due to a moving violation when merging onto the highway. He said that my brother was not going fast enough on the entrance ramp which was the reason for the violation. He also told him he should not have slowed down as much when he was turning right if he had a green light even though there were bikers that were approaching the intersection and had the right of way. He then went on to say that my brother was not aware enough while driving which given the previous sentence doesn't make sense. We went back afterwards to see if we could get the test points counted up and get more of an explanation about some of the aspects he needed to work on but the man who ran the test wouldn't even come out to talk to us. His wife who was not in the car during the test was trying to explain things to us. She asked us for our number so he could count up the points over the phone. We also weren't allowed to see the scoring sheet from the test. When we said that husband was too soft spoken and my brother had to turn off the radio to hear him the wife said that the radio shouldn't have even been on. The husband never told my brother to turn the radio off so how was he supposed to know that. I would not recommend this business for the driving skills test. They seem like they are only concerned with the money that they can get from the tests and the retakes. We will not be going back to this business for the retest.

Negative experience: Same poor experience as others that have posted. Apparently a missed turn signal is an auto fail no verbal warning. I was unaware that a turn signal carried the same weight as a stop light, or some other high level safety item. Do your kid a favor do NOT take him here. It might seem like a convenient location but trust me you'll regret it... updated response to the owner: The state of Michigan disagreed with you.

Negative experience: They are very disrespectful and rude. Just want the money

Fantastic experience: Took my cycle endorsement test here, the instructor was extremely helpful and did a good job explaining the course. My all around experience with Humphrey's has been good and I'd strongly recommend them.

Negative experience: If I could put no stars I would. SO unprofessional and mean. I truly think they fail people just to get money. The person before me was an elderly lady and not only did they fail her (probably should have failed her) but humiliated her in front of several perfect strangers including myself. Then, after she left, they preceded to discuss her with me which I thought was completely unprofessional. Then they failed my son in the first 3 minutes in the parking lot. They gave him only one chance to parallel park in the cones but gave my niece several practice tries first. Makes me wonder why some get more chances than others. Interesting that the male teacher gives girls more chances then boys, disgusting. I am confident my son would have done fine if he could have had one practice attempt. I have been driving and parking with him for 7 months. Besides, when you are parking in real life and not pretend cones in a parking lot, you can pull forward and readjust when you recognize you aren't angled correctly. Regardless pick a different place. This place is a scam and beyond unprofessional. It is actually easier and more profitable for them to fail your kids in the parking lot part (and then the kids never drive on the road) because they still charge you the full $65 and have 5 minutes of work. You scam people out of a lot of money. My husband did not take your 2-4 hour training after you failed him and SHOCKER he passed after paying you an additional $350. I know other people who had this exact same thing happen to them. I bet if a poll was done, you would find NOBODY passes the first time around with this company. SCAM. Very unprofessional and very expensive. They are priced significantly higher than other schools in the area and upon doing some research they are notorious for failing people in order to get more money. They charge $450 for a course, fail you, advise you to take their 2-4 hour course for another $150 PER hour, then charge you yet ANOTHER $350 to retest and claim once you take their course, you are guaranteed to pass! They also explained that they do not have to follow State guidelines regarding road tests. Which seems a bit shady, considering the state gives out training manuals! Do yourself a favor, find another school.
