Shammah Driving School

Negative experience: I had a disappointing experience with this driving school. Luciano, the instructor, was highly unprofessional and did not take responsibility for his mistakes. I attempted to schedule multiple lessons, but he either failed to put them on his calendar or simply forgot. It also appears that he is the only instructor available, which makes him seem constantly stressed and overwhelmed. Unfortunately, this affected the quality of the lessons and overall experience. I would not recommend this driving company to others.

Fantastic experience: I took 10 driving lessons with Lucien and was able to successfully pass my MA driving test at RMV Watertown on the first try!! They are very reasonably priced compared to other schools in the area. Lucien is a patient instructor and was quite flexible in scheduling lessons, ensured I got enough practice with special focus on the mistakes I made at stop signs and turns, as a driver who is new to driving on the "other" side of the road. I was able to master the parallel parking and 3 pt turns in a few days, which made me feel much more comfortable and confident. I would definitely recommend Shammah Driving School to anyone who wishes to learn driving and obtain a driving license in MA.

Fantastic experience: I took 6 driving lessons with Tamara and Lucien and was able to successfully pass my MA driving test on the first try!! They were flexible and accomodating in scheduling lessons, and I think are pretty reasonably priced compared to other schools in the area. Tamara was super patient and gentle with me, figured out what my specific issues were as a generally underconfident driver who is new to driving in the US (on the "other" side of the road) and took things step by step. She made sure to teach me the test requirements, including parallel parking and 3 pt turns, but also made sure I got comfortable with being on the road. I now not only have an MA driver's license but also feel comfortable and secure as a driver thanks to Shammah Driving School.

Negative experience: Extremely unprofessional and rude

Negative experience: Tried to inquire about getting driving lessons. The service was rude and unpleasant to talk with.

Positive experience: The guy, Lucien is a good person, but he needs to focus more on his rudeness. Being strict in the car is good but one has to know when not to be strict especially when it can cause any safety concern. The main challenge for me was that he wasn't 100% attentive and spent a lot of time on phone calls/sms during the class to fix classes for other customer. Therefore I had to push to get his feedback, and indirectly ask him to concentrate more on the lesson. I personally liked him because I can handle that behaviour, and passed the test. However I won't recommend him as I think it is not the best approach for most people.

Negative experience: I had a terrible experience with Shammah when I used their service last year. Trained with both Alexa and Lucien, and they were often rude and impatient which caused trauma and unnecessary stress. Couple of friends who took their classes also had the same experience. I would not recommend them at all. However, recent reviews indicate that they might have changed their approach of teaching beginners which is great. Hope that's true!

Fantastic experience: Had a great experience taking my road test with Lucien.

Positive experience: Weirdly unprofessional. Other reviews already talk about how the instructor is on the phone a lot, I was on the other end of that. I phoned them for getting a road test done as instructed on their website, and clearly the guy was doing a lesson at the time. We seemingly agreed on a date and time for a lesson + road test in the middle of this lesson, but given that the guy didn't ask for my name or really anything, I'm sceptical to say at the least? But spending an hour in a car with someone who's mostly on the phone seems not very useful so I'm likely not missing out. Edit: Well, turns out that despite the lack of confirmation and him not having returned any of my texts, they did remember the appointment, so I guess let me raise my score by one star. I stand by my score though: These folks aren't organised, and who wants to take driving lessons from someone who's paying more attention to his phone?

Negative experience: Poor English to an extent that I don’t get half of what the instructor is saying

Negative experience: I booked a driving lesson several weeks in advance. The night before the scheduled lesson someone from Shammah Driving School called to tell me that they would not be able to do lessons at all that afternoon or evening. I feel that this was unprofessional and showed that they did not respect my time. Unexpected emergencies do come up for everyone, but I feel like since I turned down plans with several people to keep my scheduled appointment they should have offered me something in return, like a discount.

Fantastic experience: Shammah Driving school really helped me learn to be a driver, and then a better driver. Their instruction for drivers Ed was very comprehensive and interactive and I learned about what to do in different situations without even being in the car. After taking their drivers Ed program, I was able to continue to learn in their behind the wheel lessons. At first, it was difficult for me, but Alexa really made me feel like a confident driver. We went from learning how to stay in my lane to parallel parking, and I now feel confident in my driving skills. Without their comprehensive lessons, I don't know what I would have done. Highly recommend for anyone wanting to get behind that wheel - I feel safer already.

Negative experience: Cannot recommend this driving school! For context I have a permit from Europe and took lessons to prepare for the MA road test. I don’t have much recent driving experience and was looking to gain more confidence driving in MA via lessons and to arrange a test. I chose Shammah driving school based on good google reviews however, my experience was the instructor spent the majority of the lessons on his phone arranging other lessons. The teaching was minimal apart from a few opportunities to parallel park. After a couple of lessons I asked about booking the road test and got a vague reply, and then didn’t hear anything back from calls or texts to arrange more lessons and the test. I understand that driving schools are in demand but found this unprofessional, I gave up trying to continue with shammah since I didn’t hear anything back. Instead I went with Brookline who are very responsive and organised. With them I had 3 lessons and took my road test and passed in just 1 week.

Fantastic experience: I passed my road test on the first try, thanks to Alexa! I've had lessons with a dozen instructors over the years that I tried to learn to drive, and so I can tell you with certainty: Alexa is one of a kind. She has an incredible ability to explain concepts and prepare you not only to ace the road test but to drive in the real world. Her feedback is always correct and well-timed, and I always felt safe with her. As my skills improved, she directed me to new intersections to navigate, finding new ways to gently challenge me. And when I did make mistakes, she calmly prevented them from escalating, and helped me out of the situation without judgment or embarrassment. I have my license now, but I hope to continue learning from her, booking the occasional lesson to keep my skills sharp or practice a tricky maneuver! Thank you, Alexa!!

Fantastic experience: Lucien and Alexa are very dedicated, patient and professional instructors! They teach you everything you need to know and make sure that you remember it. Lessons were both helpful and enjoyable, and I would be very happy to recommend them!!

Negative experience: Terrible experience with Alexa. She borderline yelled at me when I made mistakes, chewed me out for "going too fast" when I drove well under the speed limit, and instead of creating a supportive learning environment she made me feel stressed and anxious. After my lesson was over, the next student, who appeared to still be a high school student, drove me home. She was even more rude and hostile to him than she was to me, and berated him for a mistake *she* made until I spoke up and called her out on it. I canceled my next lesson and will never use this school again.

Fantastic experience: Aced my driver's license thanks to Shammah Driving School! My instructor, Lucien, was incredibly flexible with scheduling, making the lessons and road test a breeze. I'd tried other driving schools before, but Shammah was by far the most convenient and reliable. Lucien even helped me master parallel parking. Highly recommend them!

Negative experience: If I could give a 0 rating, I would. Overall extremely unprofessional behavior. There is no customer support so the only person you can contact is the instructor who’s not responsive because they’re constantly with students. For my first lesson the instructor was 15min late because he went to the wrong pick up location. The instructor Michael was constantly using his phone and making calls during my lesson, which made me concerned about road safety. Instructor was very unhelpful with giving tips on driving. The other instructor, Alexa, canceled my appointment 5min after appointment time while I was waiting for her, just because I texted her to check where she was. I would never even consider booking lessons with this school again.

Negative experience: Super rude instructor, you will be paying money to be yelled at!!! If you are going for driving classes here you better learn driving somewhere and go to him because he is going to yell at you for every mistake. I literally had a fight with him 5 minutes before Driving test at Alewife (obv i failed). He won’t explain anything and keeps on whining, and ya he’s always on the phone. I went to a different Driving school passed in my first attempt.

Fantastic experience: Alexa, was very patient while teaching me and getting me through every lesson. It was my first time ever, driving a car and her lessons were very informative about road signs rules and laws which helped me get through the Driving test in first go. At times , She also motivated me when I needed it the most and her unwavering support is what I appreciate the most.

Fantastic experience: My experience with Shammah Driving School was awesome, getting in my in-classroom experience with an amazing mentor really helped me learn about driving on the road, and the cautiousness and safety a driver needs to have. I took the Junior Operator License course that gave me information on how to keep myself and others inside the vehicle safe when driving, how to be aware of the surroundings, and to avoid anything that can harm a driver. This class was an eye-opener for me, the two weeks I had it I was learning about what driving meant in relation to the responsibility it was and the skill it took. I remember the teacher, Alexa, who was the best, helping me understand the drivers manual, reading it, talking about it, and taking lessons we learned from all kinds of videos which helped me learn all about driving. In the first week we were reading the manual, getting to its core and understanding what it meant to be on the road. When we went through a chapter, we would watch a video that related to the topic, taking feedback and notes that we learned. This was very helpful for me because instead of just watching someone read the manual, it was interactive. We learned about what it meant to be a Junior Operator, with all the requirement; having this class (30 hours in classroom), passing the test with the permit, this class' last day test, having a clean learners permit and driving record for 6 months, 40 hours with parents driving, 12 hours in a car driving, and 6 hours observing. We learned about Safety needed to drive a car; how to change lanes, Drive defensively, what to do first when entering the vehicle, the distractions inside and how much damage it can do, the weathers that we have to drive in, and the conditions that vehicle needs to be in, and all the surrounding, people, bicyclist, motorist and other cars that we as drivers need to watch out for. We learned about the charges that can come if we cannot be held responsible for the opportunity that is driving, and the abuse that can happen if we get distracted. It made me realize that it's a really big deal, how focus is everything and how a driver needs an open mind, to make all the decisions in a timed manner, and still be attentive all of the time is a big part of being a driver, its a goal that all drivers try to get to. We learned about stories that were caused by a decision a driver made, how any types of distractions, drug abuse or not can be fatal and the consequences can be harsh. In this course, I learned about the patience, responsibility and power a driver needs to have to be driving safely. This class opened my eyes about how a driver can be distracted and the ways to drive. It was a great class that gave me information that covered any questions I had.

Fantastic experience: BOOK WITH ALEXA!!! I cannot say enough good things about my instructor and teacher, Alexa. Over the course of 12 lessons, Alexa systematically converted me from a super wreck into a confident driver ready looking forward to driving on his own! Few observations that I had while learning with Alexa were: * She always focuses on getting basic driving skills(staying in your lane, turning, changing lanes, etc) right, before getting into maneuvers(parallel par , backing up etc). * Alexa is super systematic in her approach in teaching, something I really appreciate, which gave me confidence as I navigated the various skills around driving safely. * Alexa is SUPER COMMUNICATIVE during driving, always giving you information on not only what you did or didn’t do well, but also tips and advice to drive safely on the road. * Alexa always put emphasis on repetition to learn specific skills like turning and changing lanes safely. * She was always on time and was very cognizant about getting me back home on time after my lesson. I found that very helpful especially, because I had to take most of my lessons in the middle of my workday. * Alexa was always patient with my mistakes, working with me through my mistakes and fixing them over the current and next lesson. * The biggest help I had with Alexa was that to she was committed to making me a better and safe driver. I look forward to doing highway lessons with her! Just book lessons with her. Trust me. It will help you for the rest of your life :) Best of luck Alexa!

Fantastic experience: I had a great experience with Shammah Driving School with my driving instructors named Cory and Alexa. Cory was a very nice instructor and he always took his time to answer questions and break things down for us. He took it upon himself to make sure we know all that we need to in order to be safe on the road. Alexa was extremely helpful as well she always made time to join the meeting even while she was instructing other students with their behind the wheel lessons, and was able to answer any questions that we had. Our group was not engaging much at first but as we all began to participate more the classes felt more and more immersive and I began to enjoy them alot more. Some of the things we were taught were, How to safely cross at an intersection, How to avoid Hydroplaning, How to pass vehicles, and even tips and tricks on how to parallel park. One of the most important things that I learned during this 30 hour course was to make sure to anticipate other drivers mistakes so you will always be ready and able to avoid accident. I found this course to be very helpful and I look forward to being on the road learning more and more with them.

Fantastic experience: I had an amazing experience with Shammah Driving School and my driving instructor, Lucien. He was very prompt to respond to my call and arrange classes. It took me some time to learn how to effectively communicate my needs when I needed more clarity. But once this clicked, each lesson with Lucien became immensely enjoyable. His straightforward approach initially disguised his supportive nature and excellent humor, which eventually shone through to not only educate but also entertain. He was more forgiving than I was with myself when I made mistakes, and generous with his praise when he thought I did something well or when I improved on something, which really helped boost my confidence in myself and my ability to drive. He would always patiently answer my relentless questions if something was not clear to me. He is also extremely knowledgeable about Cambridge roads and would pick the perfect quiet roads if I needed to practice left/right turns, three-point turns or parallel parking. In just 12 hours of classes, I passed my road test, even though I had never driven before! Highly recommend!

Positive experience: I can’t recommend them at all. All communications are a mess. They don’t respond to messages, have multiple numbers so you never know who you’re talking to. My 2h lesson (with Michel?) was a waste of time. I hoped that he will prepare me for a road test. Instead, we spent most of the time pointlessly driving and not making any maneuvers. I ended up taking road test with Paul from Friendship school and he was great!

Her guidance and teaching skills were instrumental in helping me pass my road test on the first attempt. She made the entire learning experience enjoyable and stress-free. Negative experience: Nearly got hit by one of their vehicles while I was crossing in a crosswalk in Davis Square, Somerville. The instructor made direct eye contact with me as he failed to yield, the driver didn't even look. The instructor had wire apple headphones on and was presumably on a phone call. Couldn't be bothered to teach his driving student to obey the law. Pretty stupid way to behave while there's a massive advertisement on the roof of the car advertising a driving school.

Fantastic experience: I reached out to Alexa after I drove 10+ hours with other driving instructors and saw no improvent at all. With Alexa, I started seeing improvement in first lesson. She identified my weaknesses and tailored the training very efficiently. The biggest weakness for me was nervousness in difficult or unusual situations. She explained very clearly how to act and tackle those situations. The best part of Alexa's training was she explained everything over and over again so that I remember things and drive very safely. Finally, I got my license!! Thanks to Alexa!!!! Alexa is very polite and calm, she treats students with respect, and customizes the training according to student's personality. Her goal is to make you a safe driver and she will work together to get you the license on first attempt. I highly recommend Alexa as a driving instructor.

Negative experience: I already know the roads so that’s not really a driving maneuver. For the two hour package I was expecting parallel tracking, three point points, and reverse parking at a long duration. I spent around 30 minutes in total doing parallel parking when I already I said I knew how to do that. My instructor was just on his phone the whole time. And I was just driving around the city. Very disappointing and will not be returning. For $140 dollars, Michael wasn’t showing me the important things instead I just driving around for 1.5 hours.

My instructor, Alexa really took time to understand my weaknesses and strengths thereby, working with these acquired information to fully prepare me for the actual test. Alexa was patient by repeatedly teaching me safe and technical driving skills until they grew on me. She help me pass the road test on the first attempt! Without a doubt, I got value for my money. Fantastic experience: I couldn’t recommend a better driving school than Shammah Driving School. Before I got on the road, I took the JOL sped up course with Alexa, and she’s just the best. Alexa was so patient with us and always made sure all of our questions were answered. And anytime I drove with her, she was super attentive, and corrected me so calmly, that I never felt worried. If it weren’t for Alexa, I wouldn’t of been able to pass my road test the first time. Thank you so much Alexa!!

Fantastic experience: I went through Shammah driving school to get some lessons in before I was ready to take the road test. I took classes with Cory and Michael. I can’t say enough GOOD things about Cory! I don’t even know where to begin, he made me feel so comfortable and confident from my first class with him. He really knows what he’s talking about and is so patient. I had to take a class with Michael because Cory was booking so far out due to how good he is (everyone wants to book with Cory). I also can’t say enough GOOD things about Alexa. She helped me schedule my road test and was patient with me throughout the whole process (some dates didn’t work and etc.) She was so kind and helpful and again really knows her stuff! Thank you so much!!!

Fantastic experience: This was the best experience I ever had, I call shammah driving school the day before my road test told them my issues and what I was dealing with and the I needed a sponsor. Lucien Ask me when was my road test and I told him the next day at 10am he said meet me at 9:30am and I still got there late and he was still willing to take me. We reached the testing site and met with the examiner and he gave me my road test. I was very nervous and felt like my heart dropped to my stomach but when I made it back to the testing site after my road test it was nothing but greatness because he said congratulations cause you Passed. Lucien Was very patient with me but was not sugar coating anything because he wanted to make sure that I passed I was so excited I got out the car and started jumping up and down so happy for myself. Thanks so much for the last minute assistance you assistance and help is definitely appreciated

Fantastic experience: What an incredible experience with Shammah driving school. Love that it is a family run business! Alexa and Cory were extremely patient, kind, responsive and constructive. They helped me gain confidence with driving in just 5-6 lesson. I felt defeated at one point trying to get my license but gotta give them the credit for it.

Fantastic experience: Lucien was an effective driving teacher and was genuinely looking out for us. He had good tips for the road test and I used his vehicle for the test. Pro tip - his vehicle is very small and smooth to drive, so it makes the road test easier. I passed the test!

Fantastic experience: My experience with Michael was great. I have passed the road test after 11 1-hour driving lessons. I had very limited previous experience (4.5 hours of driving practice a year ago). Michael's advice and feedback after each lesson were very helpful and helped preparing for the test - we went over every important aspect. Additionally, I also booked the road test date via Shammah school, which allowed me to schedule a test without a long waiting time, which was very convenient.

Positive experience: I took lessons with Alexa and Michael. Alexa is a great instructor, very attentive and gave useful tips for the road test. With Michael, I was disappointed. I paid for the 2 hour long class. This is advertised as a one on one intensive class focusing on manuevers for the road test. Instead, Michael had me driving around random parts of town while he was talking on the phone for over an hour and a half. We spent only ~20 minutes of the class doing maneuver practice. For $140 I expected better quality of instruction. Most of the good reviews here talk about Cory but you will need to book 1-2 months out if you want him. They seem understaffed. Their road test package is expensive. I guess they have no incentive to improve their instruction quality because if you fail they'll just make more money

Fantastic experience: I’ve been re-learning how to drive after a 15 year lapse (and I wasn’t very confident to begin with). Lucien is an excellent instructor. He is direct and teaches in a calm and non-judgemental way.

During my lessons, I felt comfortable and supported. When I made mistakes he calmly walked me through my options and assisted me to figure out what was best to do. He helped me build my skills and become more confident navigating through busy city streets. Alexa is kind, helpful, and accommodating with booking lessons, scheduling the road test, and all the preparation before and during the test.

Fantastic experience: I could not recommend Shammah Driving School more highly. It costs more than some other schools in the Boston area, but it’s absolutely worth it for the quality of instruction! I took lessons with Cory who was patient and supportive, and consistently held me to a high standard. He taught me how to navigate different situations, corrected my mistakes, and made me drill different techniques until I was comfortable. Thanks to his instruction, I made considerable improvement in driving and passed my test today! More importantly, I gained a confidence in my ability to drive safely.

I really appreciated that his priority was to help all of his students feel safe and comfortable, and enable them to become good, defensive drivers. Fantastic experience: Needed a car for road test with right away, meet with Alexa, she was punctual and helped with everything, was able to pass and thankful for that.

Negative experience: Pros: They drive to you. Cambridge based. Cons: Not good on instruction, expensive for what it is, instructors will be on phones (watching something or scheduling tutor for kids/ calling family). Took 8 hr of class, 6 with Corey, 2 with Michael. Main lacking point is on the instruction quality, they know how drive, but could improve on empathy, patience and communication. I imagine driving multiple hours in Cambridge with students is very stressful.

Positive experience: Although my coach Lucien is a good guy, I think I should have received more specific instructions based on the price I paid. The teaching style of Lucien is not very beginner-friendly. There’re many classes I felt I didn’t get any instructions and just drove by myself as Lucien was on the phone for more than 2/3 of time. If you can drive already and just need a brush up driving lesson, it’s a good option, because they will pick you up at your place, which is very convenient

Fantastic experience: I managed to pass my road test thanks to Shammah Driving School! Cory was a great instructor – he knew what was on the test, and gave very good advice on how to improve my driving and how to drive safely, not just to pass the test but to be a good driver in general. Booking lessons was really smooth, and since you could choose your pickup and dropoff location it was very convenient.

Cory doesn't just teach to pass the test, he makes you a better and safer driver. I felt incredibly supported - even when I made mistakes he calmly guided me through my options and helped me to work out what was best to do. Fantastic experience: Had zero prior driving experiences. First lesson on 5/4/2022. Passed road test on 7/25/2022 (first attempt). Did a total of 20 hours with Cory + 2 hour of Highway lesson. Cory gave very practical lessons that extended beyond just passing the exam...like how to drive safely around the narrow bustling streets of Cambridge, MA. As as result, I was able to confidently drive from Boston to the White mountains, NH and back (~150miles one way) within 5 months (10/8/2022) of my first lesson. Strongly recommend Cory.

He has got great skills and provides all required tips to eventually become a good driver by knowing all the rules and regulations. He is very calm and has got all the qualities to train people having zero or very little driving experience. Fantastic experience: I'm truly glad I took lessons with Shammah Driving School and also took my road test through them. Cory was my main driving instructor, What I really appreciate about the way he teaches are his step-by-step fool-proof strategies, the encouraging atmosphere he creates during lessons on the road, his sense of humor and that he helps you to be the best driver you can be . I took the 10-hour class bundle, but my confidence in driving really improved after just 2 lessons with him. Alexa is awesome, clear & considerate with scheduling!- I believe this is one of the busiest driving schools in the Cambridge/ Boston area but everyone here including the owner Lucien, always responds and truly cares that you succeed.

Negative experience: The instructors were very money minded. All you will be doing is to drop off the person from previous slot and drive to pick up location of next slot. They are angry if they were not able to do so.

He is a thorough professional and his tips on how to parallel park efficiently—with as few steps as possible—were tremendous. Positive experience: Shammah Driving School! -A work in progress business with honest results. If your ability to speak and understand English is limited, you may need an interpreter for the road test. You may also need someone to help translate during lessons as well to get the most out of your instruction. Lucien is the owner of the school and his two daughters, Alexa and Shammah run communications/scheduling. Lucien and Alexa are instructors and from what I've heard Cory is a very professional and informative instructor who will prepare anyone for their road test. Lucien and Alexa are sponsors and either will be in the backseat of the vehicle for the test. The test car is a newer Camry so the gas and breaks are sensitive. Upon arrival at the test site, Alexa is welcoming, helpful and effective at calming everyone's nerves. She had informed us about what the examiner was paying particular attention to that day and what they were failing drivers for. Once in the vehicle remember what you've been taught and do exactly what you're told! I was nervous but with Alexa's encouragement I was able to stay in control and pass with minimal issue. Here is why I couldn't give them a full five stars. I did about 9 hours of driving with their new instructor Michael. I wanted an instructor who was casual and wouldn't be hard on me about making mistakes. I've had some prior experience on the road but had never taken a class and wasn't sure what to expect. Michael and I got along well and was impressed by my ability to control the steering wheel and navigate around the streets of Cambridge. He is patient, encouraging and instilled in me the confidence and easy-to-understand technique he had for parallel parking. He noticed I struggled to straighten the steering wheel out and had me do it until I got it right. However, more often then not it became a frequent occurrence that if I didn't have his full attention because of parking he would either be taking calls or already on the phone when he was picking me up. I had to tell him I already knew my hand signals. Michael never bothered to ask me but it's the first question on the road test. The day of my road test folks ahead of me were failing before leaving the parking lot because of that. Michael’s weakness is that he never asked questions. If you want to know something specific about the test or how to do something with the car you'll have to ask him first. I had sent in a road test request on the 9th of June and by the next week I was hoping for some sort of confirmation. I knew it would take a couple of weeks for the test to be scheduled, as per typical DMV fashion but a message saying my request was received would of been comforting. I called the school to ask if my request was received and Lucien was very short with me; his answers serving little help. I called again the following Monday (the 20th) and he kept saying I should of already received a date for my test and became frustrated with me when I said I had not. Alexa communicates almost strictly through text and with hundreds of messages coming in from customers. This lead to a miscommunication between us and instead of having a week to prepare for my road test I had a little over 24 hours to schedule one more class. In conclusion Shammah Driving School has the best intentions for their students and for locals of the area it is a very easy environment to learn in. Their organization, professionalism at times and pricing could be better.
