Fantastic experience: I love this driving experience with my instructor steven he is one of the best or the best instructor for my driving experience

Negative experience: I never learned how to parallel park or drive on the freeway with official driving school the only thing they did was do my segment 1 & 2 test but they was supposed to have me drive on the freeway and parallel park but never did

Positive experience: My online instructor was great, Dave from Ann Arbor, and he was so nice, and I loved having him. All my actual driving instructors were also very helpful when it came to the driving part. They helped me keep my nerves down and I had fun.

Negative experience: Never again the driver is on hour late after waiting a month just to get a drive

Negative experience: This was a horrrible experience there was too many students in the classroom and couldn’t get a drive also the there was no desks and I’m a month in and can’t get my drive and can’t take the permit test another thing is the instructor is always late for his drives

Negative experience: I am writing to express my extreme dissatisfaction with the driving instruction my daughter received from Instructor Pam. My daughter was very nervous before her first road training session, and unfortunately, the session only made her more nervous, scared, embarrassed, and defeated. During the two-hour drive, the instructor was short-tempered and rude to my daughter. Instead of building on the caution that all new drivers have and helping her build confidence, the instructor talked down to her and belittled her. For example, she repeatedly told my daughter to “go, go, go” and asked her why she insisted on not doing what she was told. I paid for this course so that a professional with experience and patience could explain things to my daughter and help her feel confident behind the wheel. The instructor did not do that. She did not put herself in the mindset of a new driver and made comments like, “I’m the one that can drive, not you.” It was heartbreaking to see my daughter get in the car crying after the session. I am very disappointed with Instructor Pam and do not believe she should be teaching anyone how to drive. I would like to know what changes will be made to remove this type of experience from the course.

Positive experience: Not a five star and I will explain why. This is the 2nd time we had a teen go through the program and there are certain things we learned and it made our second round much better. We made sure to do our due diligence on teachers before the drives and I’m really glad we did! We were able to get Mr. Tyler for all drives, but one! Our daughter liked him very much. He was very punctual, courteous, easy to understand, and made sure the evaluations were completed immediately after all drives. On her last drive, she had a teacher who grabbed her wheel a lot, didn’t go on the highway, was very rude, and then finished 12 minutes early. This teacher also was talking badly about another teacher, which we felt was very unprofessional. We are still waiting on the certificate so we can go to SOS for her permit and we were told 3-5 business days because they were very busy and behind in getting them out. Overall, our daughter’s experience was very good, and we believe it all was due to her teacher, Mr. Tyler. He’s pretty amazing and we hope everyone gets to experience him as a teacher!!

Fantastic experience: Jonathan was a great intructor!! I used to be terrified of driving but he really helped me gain confidence and let go of that fear!! Would reccommend him 100 percent.

Fantastic experience: The Official Driving School is a very good driver's training experience! Jonathan Mattia is my driving instructor for all of my in-car lessons, and he has been very helpful and calm in teaching me the ins and outs of driving. 5 out of 5 would recommend!

Negative experience: I was in a makeup class with bethany and she gave me warnings for my face not being in the camera how she wanted it but there were other students a different color that heads werent even in the camera. The driving instructors that i drove with was rude and bossy Bessie and Pam. Bessie was yelling at me while i was driving and Pam made rude comments, both not good instructors. Tammy was my last drive and she was so sweet, unlike the others. I would not want to recommend this school to ANYONE.

Fantastic experience: I loved Ms Duncan! She told great stories and I felt engaged in class even when it was online. I also loved driving with Ms Peplinski, she made me feel so comfortable when I was nervous behind the wheel

Fantastic experience: I was hesitant at first to use Official being a new company around here, but I'm sure glad we did. I couldn't be happier with the experience! The instructor was knowledgeable, patient, and always ready to answer any questions we had. I highly recommend Official Driving School to anyone looking to learn to drive safely and efficiently.

Negative experience: I will tell everyone not to use this company. The instructor wouldn’t let my daughter in to the class even though she was logged in on time. There are no driving times available, so why are they offering a class without the option to fulfill all the requirements? I’ve had 2 other kids do drivers ed elsewhere and had nowhere near this terrible of an experience.

Fantastic experience: I made a scheduling error but when I called and talked to Moe he was incredibly helpful. He took care of everything quickly and I am extremely grateful. Thanks Moe!

Negative experience: My grandson has had 2 appointments to take his driving test and each time no instructor is there to give him his test. I think this is not a good look for the driving school. When you pay your money in advance someone should be available to do the job that you have paid for. I am not happy with this driving school location in Dearborn Heights.

Fantastic experience: My son just completed Segment 1 here. They made the entire process effortless. Classes and behind the wheel times were convenient, we were able to find times that worked well for our busy schedule. My son is doing so well driving. I’m amazed to see him behind that wheel. The education/lessons that he received here makes me more comfortable to allow him to drive. I notice myself sitting in the passenger seat feeling confident in him as he continues to learn and get his behind the wheel hours with me. We are both looking forward to Segment 2 in a few more months. Debra Urben was the instructor for most of my son’s lessons. She worked well with him, always provided notes on the evaluation after each lesson, which allowed us to understand areas of strength and what needed improvement. I’m sure all the other instructors are great as well, but I definitely wanted to shout her out. Thank you

Negative experience: This was a terrible experience. The company has terrible customer service. Wouldn’t respond to emails. Had terrible times for driving outside of school hours. Instructor Mr. Germany was not good and was not impressed with attitude.

Negative experience: My experience with the classes are mostly great, except for being accused of being on my phone when in reality I was taking notes. Both of my 2 drivers were very very questionable. My first driver Johnathan was great, he explained things nicely and helped me learn, the only con was both times he was pretty late. My other driver Bessie Windham was a rude lady. She wouldn’t explain things properly and wondered why I wasn’t doing things perfectly, it’s was only my 1st or 2nd ever so obviously I’ll be doing things wrong. Instead of talking and communicating she would scream and both me and the others. During the drive we didn’t do multiple things that’s supposed to be doing on the drive like, complete U turns, driveway entering, approaching train crossings and off-road recovery. When talking about my experience with my fellow students, they all similar or even worse experiences with her, and they all have other drives with her and are scared of writing a review about it. My drive with Windham left me more confused then it did help me learn. Though official did do a good job at teaching in the classes they definitely need to work on the people they hire. If I could leave 0 stars on Bessie I would.

Fantastic experience: Mrs Tulip and Mr orlando are both great teachers and I feel like I made good connections with my instructors and my teahcers that made learning how to drive something to remeber!

Fantastic experience: Mr.Miller was a great sub for Mrs.Tulip! He keeps the class engaged and I can tell he is a great teacher nonetheless :) I feel very prepared to take my segment one test!

Fantastic experience: Richard is an AMAZING instructor! Richard was super patient, extremely clear with his instructions, had mini cars on hand and an extra wheel to demonstrate and explain how to maneuver the vehicle. You can tell he enjoys what he does and takes pride in teaching! I passed my road test today and couldn’t be more grateful for him giving me the confidence behind the wheel. I highly recommend training with him!

Negative experience: Worst customer service imaginable -- would highly recommend using any other provider. Registered for a 2/3rds virtual Segment 2 class 5 weeks in advance of the actual course and was forced to cancel the registration just a few days after initially registering due to scheduling conflict (and still over a month before the first virtual class would take place.) I was told that I had missed a 72-hour window to cancel (that apparently includes the weekend) by mere hours and dismissed with them stating they're taking the $85 registration fee and would leave it as a credit -- but would also assess a $50 fee to re-register for a different session. After I protested I was given a form to submit a formal refund request. This was clearly ignored and a response never given until after the original class (again -- over a month later) took place, and was given the same "we don't do cancellations after 72-hours" and cited a Student Agreement that wasn't even available on their website and returned a 404 error. This being a 2/3rds virtual Segment 2 class -- and not a Segment 1 in-person course nor a scheduled instructor driving session -- there is no reason for this policy for a cancellation from something over 30 days away. Save yourself the headache and use another service -- the other ones are cheaper (and far better, it turns out) than the scam that is Official Driving School.

Negative experience: Official Driving school is selling goods that they can’t provide. Waiting until after the class is over to get drives in is crazy. Be upfront with how business is done so customers can make informed decisions before they go with you. Had called and emailed multiple times just to not get ahold of anyone or answers. They acknowledge negative review but manager can’t seem to call.

Negative experience: Cancelled lessons and drives, improperly scheduled my test for a Thursday in Canton, a rough hour drive from home, and was told somebody would come regardless to let me take said test, nobody showed for the hour I waited, and then was told that the test was scheduled wrong and I had to wait 3 more weeks to take it.

Positive experience: Signed my daughter up for segment one online classes because that's all that would fit our schedule. Didn't realize they only had a few driving instructors (maybe even one) and so the only time I can get her in for driving instructions is in the early afternoon in Lansing, MI. The problem is she is in school. So I have to pull her out of school to have her do driving classes. I don't want her to have to choose between class and education. I wished they would have at least been more upfront with me and now telling me that they are playing "catch up" from summer and we will get a call with more drive times. I wished we would have gone with another school.

Fantastic experience: Our teen reported that all of the instructors during the drive & observe times were nice & helpful which made the sessions more relaxed. We are overall pleased with the Rochester location and its staff.

Fantastic experience: Just had to rate the royal oak location for it's great customer service! The instructors were so nice here too!

Fantastic experience: Came over to Official Driving School after a negative experience with another company. Was able to easily schedule drive times with the student portal - the other company did everything on paper and then wanted to charge my son for missed times. Glad that Official Driving School is in the Twenty-first century. Their online system was easy to use.

Fantastic experience: We had a great experience with Official Driving School. I'm astonished by any 1-stars I see here. We took classes with Dr. Tim in Ann Arbor, but we talked to Ryan at the Royal Oak office regularly and he helped us coordinate the best schedule possible for our family. Ryan - You are a lifesaver! You really helped us out. Thank you so much Official we will be back for Segment 2!

Negative experience: Horrible customer service. Employees don’t give out the correct information. Tried to enroll my daughter over the summer and they only had virtual, when I called they informed me they would have in person in September. Got her enrolled for the beginning of September and then they had to reschedule because of no instructor. We rescheduled it only to find out to that the class she was switched to was virtual (which she cannot do because of her ADHD). We were never informed that the class was a virtual class when I called to reschedule it. The person that called was extremely rude and told me that I should just go with another company because they will only have virtual classes and that my daughter should just deal with it. Then she starts talking about playing sports and how things get canceled if there aren’t enough players, like that is supposed to help me right now. Now I will have to wait for my refund and find another class for her. I do not recommend this place at all, they won’t help you, they just give you the runaround. Edited to add: I called for a Manager and spoke with Jessica, she was very helpful and understanding and even gave me her email to discuss further with her.

Fantastic experience: Mrs. Tulip was my class instructor she was an amazing teacher and gave me any extra help that I needed. She also gave my class so many extra tips about driving.

Negative experience: Royal oak location is horrible I did 3 drives with them and the instructors did not teach me anything the instructors was horrible the only one that was good was Matthew my 2 other drives waste of money on my 3rd drive bessie Windham was really rude she was on her phone talking and was not teaching me anything it's feels like I only 1 drive because the instructors did not teach me anything

Fantastic experience: Mrs. Tulip went at a very good pace for me to learn at, simplifying everything into something we could understand, and patiently answering any questions. It was easy to stay engaged with her teaching tactics, such as connecting with the students often by asking us fun questions to keep our minds working and made online drivers training a lot better than was expected.

Fantastic experience: Mrs. Tulip is an amazing teacher. She is very prompt, thorough and has a great personality. She actually made moments fun and I was totally prepared for test day! I will be requesting Mrs. Tulip for phase II:)

Negative experience: Very very unprofessional and rude people. I usually never write a review but was compelled to do this one after I have had repeatedly bad experience and the rude response from the management when I called to express my concerns. They have no respect for your time or the safety of the teenagers who come to learn from them. My daughter waited for an hour for the driver to show up and the driver cancelled on her saying he was working on something in the house after making her wait outside the building for an hour. The name of the driver was Greg Pope. Their website posted a segment 1 driving test from 9-11am at Brighton Highschool this morning and my daughter had signed up for it, only to realize no one showed up there and when she called them at 10am, they said they forgot to update the website and that it has been moved. They did not know about the wrong website posting until she called them. When I called them with my concerns, the person on the call from Royal Oak location - Xavier was extremely rude and blamed the parents for not waiting with the students all along. He refused to let me talk to his manager or even give his full name. He was very rude, defensive and said this is the best they could do. Please do yourself a favor and go to a different driving school.

Fantastic experience: I have Mrs. Tulip and she was great. Gave us more information than needed so we were prepared to take the test. Overall a fun and great teacher.

Fantastic experience: I have Ms Tulip and she is a fantastic teacher I've learned a lot from her. She's able to make drivers ed as interesting as it can be which is very helpful since I have adhd.

Positive experience: Regarding Mrs. Tulip: She's really nice and stuff and she gives very helpful advice, however she goes very fast a lot and for someone who isn't a fast writer it can be very difficult. So I either have to right notes for 2 hours or have absolutely nothing at all.

Fantastic experience: 10/10 Mr.Ben cured my mortality. After he taught me how to stop and slow to the finest point of precession, everything became but mere child’s play. The atomic nature of particles themselves became toys to use at my will; the strings that make up the quantum world nothing but instruments to formate a grand symphony with. My own being has been elevated; and I thank Mr.Ben for this. Also Mr.Ben is very funny. 10/10 would recommend

My son was engaged and she was thoroughly informative with her students. She allowed the kids to ask questions and she has a pleasant sense of humor. I love how the class was structured. She made each person accountable and focused. She was patient with my son behind the wheel. Thumbs up to Ms Sheryl A. (Teacher and Behind the wheel instructor) and also Mr. Clarence Vincent (behind the wheel instructor . I HIGHLY RECOMMEND . And also thank you for having such accommodating class and driver hours.

Negative experience: I was on the road with one of their cars. they do not teach their students the laws that you have to drive under. They had blocked a street I was turning on. You can get a ticket for this.They had plenty of room about 2/3 of a car length to pull forward in order for me to turn. The instructor, when I asked for them to pull up. Started arguing. There are photos I just need tofigure out where to post.

Fantastic experience: So far I’ve had the same driving instructor throughout all of my drives (mr. Orlando) and he’s been so helpful and kind. He talks to you and makes you feel more relaxed when you drive. I hope I have him for the rest of my drives. :)

Positive experience: The instructor was Willie Brooks, had a good driving experience. He was very chill which was helpful to ease my nerves for my first time driving.

Positive experience: Instructor: Mrs. Tulip I really liked my instructor and felt that she was very helpful and friendly throughout the duration of the class. my only complaint is that the teaching style was a little confusing sometimes and it wasn’t always the most accessible to people who know absolutely nothing about driving. But for the most part it was great.

Fantastic experience: My sons instructor was Linda Knepfler. I was able to listen in on a few of his classes. I felt like she was patient, thorough and generally very nice. I feel like she was very accommodating also when she didn’t have to be. Example- my son had a drive at 6am, there was a cancellation for a drive at 7am. Mrs Linda knew I had to take a lunch from work to drive him there so she offered him the later slot. I feel like she did not have to even offer. Just after every interaction we have both been like “she’s so nice and patient!” I would recommend. It’s expensive but I think that’s the normal price from what I hear

Fantastic experience: Derick B was the instructor for my son. He was awesome. Great communication, feedback after every drive, and seemed to really care about the students and their progress in class. I had used a different company for our daughter a few years ago, and Official Driving School, was definetly an improvement and would recommend them to other parents.

Fantastic experience: Our instructors were excellent. Easy to work with, yet professional. They communicated well with parents. It was a great experience.

Positive experience: Have had a great experience so far but with the exception of one specific instructor. His name is Willie Brooks, and the reason I am very unsatisfied with him is the way he not only treats people, but the way he mentors them. He will raise his voice at you if you’re unsure of what he says (since he is awfully quiet) and he demands you to do things late, which is why I made many mistakes on my drive with him. People that I know had similar experiences with him therefore I would not recommend him. Other than that, all the other instructors I had were great but I specifically recommend Orlando, he is a very chill/funny guy who is capable of teaching well which is why I like him.

Fantastic experience: Official Driving School has been a great place for my two boys. The instructor, Jim has been very thorough and does a wonderful job! The driving instructors have been great as well. I would also like to give a big thank you to Sam who was my older son's drivers test instructor. My son has high anxiety and Sam was so very calm and patient with him during his test drive. Very impressed with her. Thank you Miss Sam!

Fantastic experience: My experience was great, my instructor was very helpful, he always made sure we knew how to do something and what we were doing. He was also very kind. I actually liked going there everyday for two hours because everybody was always in a good mood and very happy.

Also, their customer service agents on the phone are wonderful; they actually help instead of giving you the run-around. Alicia, and especially Jessica S, went out of their way to help us schedule around a surgery and recovery period, returning emails promptly with solid information and suggestions to make the situation work. I was not able to do so on my own using the portal, I called the number, Jessica replied with GREAT professionalism, did the registration for both of my daughters .... Fantastic experience: Luke F. Official Driving School is awesome and Royal Oak is the best spot! Orlando H. Was awesome for the second lesson and made driving on main roads a super enjoyable experience! Then, for drives 1 and 4-6 I had Alex M. who was the absolute best instructor ever! She helped me teach me every skill from parallel parking to nighttime Highway turning and we had the best conversations ever! On my last drive she took me on a greatest hits of everything I learned and I even got to name a dirt road Dave. I can’t wait to start segment 2 with Official and I’m excited to see my wonderful instructors again!

It was very fun learning how to drive with a teacher that fully applies the lesson to your needs rather than trying to get everything done as quickly as possible (which I was scared that it was going to happen before my first drive) and whom you can chat with while driving, while still being able to fully understand the lesson.
