Fantastic experience: We had such an incredible experience with Maniaze at Island driving school. She is a very patient and wonderful driving instructor. My daughter was anxious and nervous but after having lessons with maniaze she passed her road test on her first try. I would recommend this driving school to all of my friends and family. 5 stars!!

Negative experience: Warning!!! This place is a joke! unprofessional and the list goes on. The one thing they do give you is the 5 hour class online you can forget about the rest of the package. Took 5 hour class in June then when it came to the driving they give you the run around. The owner is full of excuses. Do yourself a favor and don’t use this place. I’m also going to go on all the other social media outlets to warn people of this place that’s how disgusted I am of the way this place treated me and from the reviews many others had the same experience. I also have phone recordings and a text message. I’m sure you are going to respond to this with other excuses as you do with all the other reviews….. So in Response to your response Carly being that this is the only way we can respond back to your ridiculousness. Yes, you scheduled me in the crunch of the week as everyone can see for Mon 8/14 30min,Thursday 8/16 2 hours of driving and then road test 8/18. Which I did agree to because I had no choice at that point being that I was going away to college and making it a note on telling your office at sign up and calling the office twice and repeating that I was going away to college after not hearing from your office after a month from my second call. My mother called and had to repeat it again and told you she was not going to play games with the back and forth because we had already waited so long. That’s how the crunch schedule came in play. Mon Aug 14 came and I got a text from Anthony three hours before my appointment time which honestly I don’t blame him at least he had the decency to text which is more then I can say about you! Text saying “I don’t know if the office told you yet but I’m sick with a bad cold and cough. I’m actually taking a Covid test soon to be sure it’s not that” then my mother called and the guy that answered the phone was like duh? more or less and then she said I wanted to talk to the owner, she spoke to you Carly, she told you about what was happening and how we didn’t receive notice of this all day from the office even though Anthony notified you in the morning! now here I was calling one hour before the office closed for the day.. You Carly acted as if you were unaware and told me you had no one to fill in with no answers. then I raised my voice. Who in their right mind wouldn’t be frustrated! We were nothing but patient and respectful otherwise we wouldn’t have been down to the wire from June at this point.! I asked you if this is how you do business and yes! I was yelling who wouldn’t be? Your response was “who do you think your talking too”? and mine was I’m talking to you. You hung up on me and you wouldn’t pick up after. I got a call the day after saying that you can schedule me for Wednesday and I told you that I was not available and then was told okay then we can schedule for another day, I again stressed that I was leaving for college and had no more time so just to get a refund at that point. I was then told to “call the billing department for a refund “ which is a joke! being that the office has all of two people in it lol. Carly I really don’t know what your issue is but I think you need a lesson in customer service and not to just rob people out of their money, How dare you respond to this review with lies but honestly it doesn’t surprise me Carly just the way you respond to peoples reviews speaks for itself. So you play your recordings and I’ll play mine Carly. I especially want to hear the one where you told me I was scheduled in Sept. with the DMV laughable. No worries on me getting my license have to wait until next summer no thanks to Island Driving but lesson learned. My only hope for this review is that no one else gets caught up in your lies and loses their hard earned money. Also look them up at the Island Driving School Complaints Better Business Bureau. DON’t LET THIS BE YOU!!!

Fantastic experience: That Bob guy is the funniest best teacher Ever, I learn so much because of the way he teach and he's funny !!! He dose a very good job, I hope he see this but keep that amazing work GOINg !!!

Negative experience: I hated the instructors, being so rude and not informative. I wanted to be so confident during my road test but Bob gave me this feeling that I was never going to make it. All my money I spent on class was a waste. This is not funny at all. They teach horribly and they barely respond to emails. Im always going to remember how horrible these people are.

Positive experience: Rating this school a 4/5 solely because I had a great instructor. Maniaze was truly the kindest and most helpful instructor, she believed in me and thanks to her helpfulness I passed my road test! The company itself needs to work more on their communication skills because I called the school more than 10 times to get updates on my lessons and road test yet many times they would not give me any information regarding the package I bought. I purchased the package in November and was given my first lesson on December 24 then my second lesson was 3 days before my road test (February) What was very surprising and frustrating was the fact that I wasn’t even given proper instructions or even an address for my road test. The woman that picked up the phone said she didn’t even know the address and I had to ask her for a zipcode so I could figure it out myself. This is not a reliable company, you have to call a lot of times because they don’t really care to properly update you on anything.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been holding off on getting my license just because of nerves. I took 5 classes with Lenny and he was amazing!!! He made me feel comfortable behind the wheel and helped me learn what I needed to pass the road test. I took my road test on February 17th and passed on my first try!! Fantastic experience: Bob is an amazing instructure always full of joy and making jokes to make the class fun although this is my second time taking a class with him from 2018 to now ( made a mistake and had to start all over again ) lol he’s still the same, when he teaches his class he’s very detailed about what will be on the road test what to expect. He gives very good points on how to pass what to do and not do I would recommend this class 100%

Negative experience: I had bought a package that contains the 5 hour class & car for the test about 2-3 months before the covid lock down. I called to make sure my package won’t expire and I was told they do not expire. Life happened & now I’m trying to take the 5 hour class and they’re telling me it expired and there’s a 1 year expiration date. Nobody communicated a warning that my package was about to expire, via a call, email or text. This is how they get away with stealing your money. $500+ down the drain, very shady.

I had my five hour class with Bob V. Very nice man, who made the class fun. A lot of cool stories, and a lot of great information. You can see that this man wants the students to succeed. If anybody looking driving school, I recommend for island driving school but go for same or may be two instructors for classes.

Negative experience: I don't know if the instructors are good or not because I didn't make it that far with them.They couldn't accommodate me with a day that I needed, so I tried to get my money back. They said once "booked" you can't get money back or they take 10%. NO WHERE in their rules states they'll hold 10%. It states a "fee". The fee I paid was $2. And "booked" means I should have a date, which I didnt. When trying to get money back, the customer service was super rude. And they give money back quarterly. So I won't see my money probably till November.

Fantastic experience: As someone who had YEARS of driving anxiety, I never thought the day would come where I would gain confidence in driving and pass my road test on the first try . Island Driving School's friendly, professional and knowledgeable staff are a huge part of my success. The administrators here are very understanding and calming to speak to. I never felt discouraged from asking questions or felt rushed off the phone (an experience I've had with other schools). I appreciate so much of their help and accommodating my needs to help me succeed. Additionally, my instructors Shannon and Lenny were the best. Shannon was incredibly informative on preparing for my road test and helped me feel calmer behind the wheel after years of not driving. The day of the road test, Lenny gave great insights and step-by-step process of how the road test would be conducted. This helped a lot to ease my nerves the day of. Thank you so much Island Driving School for helping me become a confident driver.

Fantastic experience: I was extremely nervous before taking the road test. I wasn't sure if I was going to pass or fail and anxiety began to settle in. Shannon, my instructor, gave me words of encouragement and reminded me that Gear, Steer, and Look would be the only ingredients I need to pass and I did!!! Trust the process!!!

Negative experience: Very bad customer service. I’m trying to get a refund but the receptionist puts my call on hold for 30min and hangs up on me and never return my call, she would never answer my calls. I will never recommend this driving school ever to anyone. It’s my mistake for recommending my husband here, they made us sign a contract of 10% deduction if the customer claims for refund but the receptionist never told us it would take 3 months to refund the amount. She never told us that the driving classes would take a month and a half of waiting time. Very bad and poor communication and customer service. I wish the owner could train those ladies sitting in the front to be responsible for what work they do in office.

Negative experience: First off I'm not one to leave reviews but this one has to be done. Scheduled a 5 hour course and waiting over an hour to connect to Zoom. Once connected I was locked out of the course and wasn't able to take the course. I spoke with someone today and advised them if I eas able to reschedule because of the incident but was advised I would have to pay again. I explained that not everyone can afford to pay another $55 and that's just outright horrible to charge someone because of a possible issue on there part. They make enough money I'm certain to rob people. There are other companies out there that actually charge cheaper for the course. TERRIBLE. I don't believe all the positive review either.

Negative experience: Terrible terrible driving school! Only good thing about this school is the amazing 5 hour class given by Bob!!! Also stay away from the driving teacher Laura … she is always late she don’t speak or give any helpful lessons at all! If you have a choice go with Lenny he is very helpful and gives you actual lessons unlike Laura! If you could avoid this place all together your honestly better off!

Negative experience: Great instructors, Bob, Laura and Lenny were great and helped with my driving anxiety while giving helpful tips! The office staff however, were very disorganized and mixed several things up. After successfully completing the 5 hour class sign up and attending the course, they put a stop on my account for the actual driving lessons because they thought that I did not submit my Driving School Contract (I had sent it back, the same day they sent it to me) back to them. I had to speak with them on the phone on 3 seperate ocassions to get this resolved. The first 2 times, it was the same lady who pointed out that maybe I was not using the website right or using the wrong email (in knew this was not my fault, because agian, I was able to successfully sign up for the 5 hour no probelm). On the 3rd call with them, this time it was a different lady, who was much more helpful, she went in my account to see what was wrong and fixed it, by this time a month had already passed before I was able to select lessons. The next mix up happened right before the road test. The lady in the office scheduled the road test before my final lesson (that I had already paid for) and they asked me to either cancel the road test date or lesson date and would not give me a full refund (they kept 10%) for their own mistake. Completely unaccommodating and disorganized office staff. Edit after Island driving response: 1. The lesson I was able to sign up for in March (3/3), IS the 5-hour course I am talking about. After that I could not sign up for Driving Lessons until 4/2 because that is how long it took to resolve the issue. This means that if I sgned my contract on 3/4, I should have been able to sign up for lessons starting on 3/4 but I was not able to until 4/2 when the stop was finally taken off 2. I have no problem with their being a contract in the first place, my issue is that I was being told that I could not sign up for lessons because I was using the wrong email/ login info when all the lady on the phone had to do was look into my account on the computer and take the stop off, it would have been resolved alot sooner 3. Why would you guys schedule the test before Ive had my last driving lesson? Doesnt make sense! 4. The refund policy is not my issue, it is the fact I needed to ask for a refund because I was not able to use up that last lesson I signed up for 5. Completely unprofessional to put every interaction up like this, there are dates on here that are not even relevant to my main issues with this school

Fantastic experience: Update: passed my road test on the second try! I felt lucky that I passed because I hadn't mastered hand-over-hand steering and was breaking a little too slow. However, my examiner was SUPER chill and passed me due to my flawless parallel park! Thanks Island Driving! You guys are the best! I will continue to practice all techniques you guys taught me until I master them!

Fantastic experience: Anthony helped me pass my test on my first try! I decided to take lessons to get my license after years of feeling like my anxiety wouldn’t allow me to do it. I had tried driving with instructors from other schools who didn’t understand the type of teaching and support I needed. After giving up trying for a few months, I decided to book with Anthony from Island Driving. I immediately told Anthony about my anxiety around driving and how I need someone who is clear and calm. After driving with Anthony for my first couple of sessions, I could just tell that this is who he is without my request to take it easy on me. I looked forward to taking each lesson, and Anthony was prepared to teach me a new skill, or take requests for the things I wanted to practice. Thank you, Anthony, for helping me feel confident while driving!

Negative experience: The two stars I give are only due to the fact that Lenny is a fantastic instructor who deserves 10 stars.The school's owners and administrative staff are another matter. My son had 5 lesson package booked and was unable to book any lessons.The school was unable to book a road test and was rude to him and me on the phone.When my wife posted a negative review on Facebook, the owner replied that we were getting a refund and BLOCKED her. No refund ever appeared. I will file a dispute with my credit card company but wanted to want other people that the owner , obviously, does not care for his customers unless they leave glowing reviews. Be careful if you try to bring up any issues, they get defensive and lie to make themselves look good. By the way, we booked my son's road test ourselves and he passed. Now, we just need our refund:)) EDITED: Your response is full of lies You NEVER booked the road test for May lessons, in fact you said you cannot even guarantee it would be booked this summer.The refund was never mentioned by us but was stated by YOU in your FB reply. You twist everything to cover up the fact that you do not have the capacity to deliver what you promise. In all our dealing with you, nobody ever apologized but blamed us . Any time someone writes a negative review, you come up with a way to make them responsible. Good luck in your business.

With help from Lenny, who was incredibly patient and calming, today I passed my road test with only 10 points!!! Fantastic experience: Today I passed my Road Test!!! Not in a million years would I have thought I’d have the ability to get behind a wheel. But moving to Staten Island, it was necessary. So just like how I’m writing this review, I had read other reviews and based on that I decided to go with Island Driving School. BEST DECISION I’VE EVER MADE. I signed up for 7 lessons which were incredible. And I gained more confidence after each lesson! Also with the 7 lesson package comes a Road test and the School let’s you take the test with the car you’ve learned on which is a WIN WIN. So I recommend that package. Thank You Lenny for making me feel comfortable when I literally started with no experience what so ever. I hope everyone finds this review helpful and decides to go with Island Driving School as their choice, because it was the best one I made. No need to look further. Forever Grateful.

Fantastic experience: Bob is a great instructor and very informative with everything you need to know and then some when it comes to the Road test and driving in general. I’m sad he doesn’t teach any driving lessons. i would go to war for this guy

Negative experience: I wish i could give them -5 stars. I just filled up a complaint with BBB due to the issues i have been experiencing with Island driving school. I took my five hour class 3 weeks ago and i still didn't receive the certificate. I paid $345.00 for the winter special and they don't have any classes available on their online schedule. When you call on the phone, they refuse to schedule any classes, they tell you to schedule them online. Now that i want a refund they charge a 10% fee. They tell lies about the five hour certificate being mailed by DMV everywhere else you go they give you the 5 hour certificate within two days. Don't waste your time and money with them go to another driving school.

Negative experience: DO NOT GO HERE WARNING!!!! This school is not professional at all. The customer service is a -0. I had an incident with one of the childish woman THAT SITS IN THE BACK ON Guyan Ave office. I speaking with the front desk discussing my information and came to pick up my 5hour. She asked me to sign something I didn't understand why so I started asking questions and another representative came from the back yelling with attitude that I had to sign a document or else. I didn't understand why I had to sign it because she didn't allow the other representatives to finish explaining. Her attitude was disgusting an unprofessional. I then asked why is she speaking to me in that way. She then ignored my question and told the other representative not to give her my paperwork and walked off. To avoid conflict. I took the paper and signed . Little did I know my paperwork was not there. She stated i had to go to the other site on Forest. I stated okay so i asked for the paperwork that I signed that I didn'tunderstand since I am not picking up in this office. The lady came to the front again yelling and cursing at me stating u am not getting sh*t. Leave before I call the cops. I am so confused on what happened. So I gave her some words as well. She then act like I was in the wrong and told me to leave. I am so upset and disgusted on how they treat people. Especially when it comes to business. She need to get repremented or fired on how she treats people. She should be nice to people because waht goes around comes around DO NOT GO HERE. THE OWNER WILL TAKE EMPOYEE SIDE AND KICK YOU OUT. WITHOUT NO EXPLANATION.

Fantastic experience: The instructor Bob V gave me the most informative 5 Hour class I could ever ask for. I'm more motivated than ever to take my road test. He was extremely helpful with teaching me the ways of the road all while being online because of coronavirus precautions. I know i"m going to get my license because of this help but if I don't I would absolutely come back to island driving school to find Bob for more advice. Highly recommend !

Fantastic experience: I got a bundle package for driving lessons with island driving.Rob was my instructor. He was very clear with his directions and gave me the best tips on parallel parking and being more aware on the road. Definitely recommend him. Passed my road test with an almost perfect score for being a little far from the curb on the parallel park!! 1st time test and i passed!!!!

Fantastic experience: Just passed the road test!! Rob was my instructor, absolutely amazing instructor, actually knew what he was talking about throughout every lesson. I recommend him for anyone who actually wants to LEARN how to drive and not just pass the exam. I learned more with him in three lessons than I have driving for a year with only a permit. Thanks Rob!!!

Fantastic experience: Island driving school is great. Specifically Lenny B. I wouldn’t have passed my road test without him. Truly a gem and great teacher.

Negative experience: I had Robert for the one hour lesson and he was just nasty. The car was disgusting. Instead of him teaching you the one hour lesson all he did was scream and eat the whole time. I did not pay for the packet to have this horrible experience. I wasn’t taught the k turn. I wasn’t taught the u turn. All he did was say stop here or turn here when it was already too late to do. I don’t know what I paid for but I hope the owner is well aware of how dirty the car is and how horrible my experience was.

Negative experience: I am extremely disappointed. I had an hour of driving training with Robert. First I would like to mention he is not nice, very disrespectful, and with him I had a very unfriendly atmosphere. Second, the car I was in was a Toyota Corolla. The car was HORRENDOUS . It was not cleaned, nasty, he was eating when taking us to our road rest sight, didn’t have a seatbelt and most importantly he didn’t have a mask . It is insane how we are in a pandemic and there are no safety precautions taken AT ALL. I wanted to throw up the entire time. Robert didn’t give any good example of a good driving instructor- he didn’t stop, continued eating and drinking, and NO SEATBELT. Stay clear of this place- it is disgusting. I paid for 1 hour of driving and I only had 40 minutes of driving.!!!

Fantastic experience: My last Lesson was with Robert on a Sunday. I let him know my road test was scheduled for that Tuesday and that I needed to pass. He let me know he was going to treat each move like we were at the road test. He was strict yet he explained EXACTLY why he corrected me. Before my lesson with him I was not sure I could pass the test. After leaving his car I felt more confident. Tuesday is here and I PASSED MY TEST! I used all the information he gave me and was told I did outstanding. Even the Parallel parking. If you have to go to ONE instructor before your Road Test...Go with Robert. And I have had several lessons with other instructors.

Fantastic experience: Rob was very helpful to me before my drivers test. I feel as if I learned more in that one hour than I did in the 16 weeks of drivers ed. I would definitely recommend booking a class with him.

Fantastic experience: Rob is hands down the best driving instructor. He is a bit strict, but when it comes to being on the road with other drivers and pedestrians you want someone who pays attention to the little details. Whether you’re a completely new driver or with experience, Rob will make sure you pass the road test on your first try. After only three lessons with Rob, I passed my road test today. Thank you island driving and Rob.

Fantastic experience: I had an amazing experience with Rob when I Took the one hour lesson on the day of my road test! I had a few areas where I had to focus so he helped me with them right before the road test! So I would highly recommend rob and the work he does.

Fantastic experience: For my driving lessons, i was paired up with Robert. He was a tough but determined instructor and made sure that i drove well and made sure that i passed the road test with ease. I appreciated his truthfulness during the lessons and his ability to teach me how to drive in real life situations while preparing me to pass the road test made it an experience that will guide me in the future as a new driver. TAKE LESSONS WITH ROBERT IF YOU WANT TO PASS!!

Fantastic experience: I had my road test with Rob. I was intimated by all the reviews saying he was tough. But I found him to be very detailed, and yes tough also.. He was the only instructor to teach me parallel parking. I passed the road test with only five points off for an imperfect parallel park. Everything else was perfect. Thank you Island and Rob.
