You need to have a Learner's Permit in order to take driving lessons (or a valid Driver's License for refresher courses). Please remember that you are required to take the:

 For 15 Years Old and younger than 18 Years Old : Driver Education Traffic Safety (DETS)  If you're at least 15 years old but under the age of 18, Florida requires you to take this 6-hour course before you can hit the road. We make it as smooth and painless as possible!

 For 18 Years Old and Older:  4 Hour Drug and Alcohol Class, also known as the TLSAE (Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Education) course or the First Time Driver Course AND study the DMV Handbook before you can take the Driver's License Permit Exam. 

IMPORTANT: The Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Education (TLSAE) or 4 Hour Drug and Alcohol course is now required only for driver license applicants who are 18 years of age and older and who have never been licensed in another jurisdiction.

If, as a result of a moving violation, you elect to complete the Basic Driver Improvement Course, also known as the 4-Hour BDI course or the RED LIGHT COURSE, you will receive the following benefits:

If you accumulate: 12 points in 12 months, your license will be suspended for 30 days; 18 points within 18 months results in a 3 month suspension; 24 points within 36 months results in a 12 month suspension.
