Since 2009, DriveSafe has provided high-quality driver’s education to the Evergreen-Conifer communities. As Evergreen residents, the owners of DriveSafe understand the importance of teaching teens the skills necessary to manage the unique challenges of mountain driving, from navigating switchbacks to safely sharing the road with our diverse local wildlife.

Our State-approved online drivers education offers self-paced and engaging lessons. Paired with behind-the-wheel training, our online programs can be completed anytime, anywhere. 

Students 15½ and older are eligible to take an intensive four-hour drivers education program on traffic laws and safe driving principles. For optimal driver’s education, students are encouraged to study the Colorado Driver Handbook before class. This program is great for adults and eligible ages that desire an accelerated route to obtaining their driver’s license.

Depending on your age, the Colorado State requirements for drivers education vary, as do the requirements for obtaining your driver’s license.Below we’ve broken down basic permit requirements for your age group:

This 80-minute interactive clinic is great for teens preparing to get their license, new drivers, or anyone looking to increase their vehicle safety awareness. With hands-on demos, participants gain practical knowledge in emergency preparedness, roadside procedures, and safe driving habits. Exercises include live tire change, jump-start tutorial, full under-the-hood walkthrough, and more. 

The Parent Training Course is a driver’s ed tool designed to help parents effectively teach their teens how to drive throughout their permit-holding period. Available via mobile app for convenient access, it offers structured drive lesson plans, interactive learning tools, and practical exercises to help teens develop and reinforce safe driving habits. 

Add an extra 2-hour lesson to your training. Perfect for students looking to boost confidence, fine-tune specific skills, and improve their chances of passing the driver’s license test.

Students in Colorado can begin drivers education as early as age 14 1/2 and can receive their permit as early as their 15th birthday. You then must hold your permit for a full-year before becoming eligible to take your license test. Here are the steps to getting your permit and license:

While most teens complete a 30-hour drivers education class to qualify for their permit, the state does allow students over the age of 15.5 to complete a 4-hour expanded driver awareness class instead.

It is wonderful that you are already interested in your teen's drivers education. You are welcome to register for a program at any time, but Colorado requires that students be 14 1/2 before beginning their classroom program.

To obtain your drivers license in Colorado, you will first need to pass a written permit test. Once you have your permit, you can sign up for your license test when you feel you're ready.

One unique feature is that if your student begins the online course and then decides they would prefer a live class, we can transfer them at no cost. If this occurs, State rules require that the student start the live class from the beginning.

The drivers license test is a standardized road test that takes about 30 minutes from start to finish. Following the exam, the tester will provide feedback and then tell you whether you passed. Even experienced drivers sometimes fail, particularly if they have not stayed current on Colorado rules and regulations.
