Experiencia fantástica: Firstly, I want to say thank you to the office staff / instructors / peers for helping me to achieve my goal of getting a CDL license. The school in their doings is a little unconventional imo. But, it works I’m proof of this. The student to instructor ratio is a bit off. The yard equipment is well used. But, it works. I have nothing negative to say about the school. The negative comments you may read about it simply aren’t true. It’s 20% them 80% you. If driving a semi truck is something that you want to do. You can achieve part of that goal here. And, as a bonus this School is substantially cheaper than other schools with similar offerings and you will learn to drive a manual transmission therefore your CDL license will not have any restrictions on it, which is a plus for you.

Experiencia positiva: This is a good school to go to if you’re trying to get your CDL only. The cost is cheaper than any other school I was applying to at the time. The font office ladies were nice to me and communicated everything I needed to know through out the whole process. The guy that runs the place Brandon was transparent with me about everything and any questions had for him. The Instructors are great at what they do. They had different styles which helped me see different viewpoints on what I needed to do to correct myself when I was making a mistake. Shoutout to Jonny, Tate, Dexter, and Joe I wouldn’t have got my CDL without those guys. Also Fred even though he didn’t stay to the end of my class. I thought he was a good instructor when he was there. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because of the condition of the ground. The ground has some dips in the gravel which made my maneuvers a little difficult some days. But I hear they are going to fix it. So if your studying like you supposed to there shouldn’t be any reason not to get your CDL.

This Brandon dude came in the classrom and told us he is a trained special forces and navy seal guy... huuh? why? nobody asked about it...? In addition the faint smell of old body odor in the room, the in-classroom vaping from Gwendolin and the overall disrespect made me cancel after a few days and started the whole process again with a better school. Black Sheep Automotive is much cheaper, better educated and friendly instructors and no one is yelling. they are in Rockmart and I highly recommend their services. Google them and call them today to take advantage of their specials.

Trucks are not in good condition but you have everything you need. So who cares about their condition if they do what they suppose to do? Btw i love you Bri ♥️ and thank you gabby.

Experiencia fantástica: I chose Katlaw Driving School after a detailed and painstaking research process. I decided to train here because they had the best reputation at the most reasonable price. I can tell you that I had an excellent CDL training experience . Katlaw not only prepared me to successfully pass the State of Georgia DDS CDL Class A License process but they also helped me get a job straight out of school. In fact, during your time at Katlaw they will put you in front of recruiters from various companies 1-2 times a week for the entire time you are enrolled. There are several people I would like to thank, but I must first give a HUGE thank you to Johnny W. Johnny is the first driving instructor that the new drivers work with their first week on the practice range. Johnny's demeanor and hands on teaching style goes a long way in helping to build confidence and competence in each individual new driver. He establishes a personal rapport with every new driver so he can teach and motivate them in a manner that they will be most responsive to. I must also give a special shout out to Gwen who leads the ELDT Classroom portion of training. She is also the person who coordinates the recruiting visits whch helped me to secure employment before I graduated. She also pulled me aside to motivate me and keep me focused. Brandon, who is charge of everything at Katlaw also deserves a major kudos. He took time out of his regular schedule to give me 1 on 1 tutoring on how to pass the DDS Pre-Trip portion of the CDL Testing. I also give thanks to the following driving instructors Mike, Dexter, Fred, CJ, Chris, Tay, and Helen. They all contributed to me getting my Class A license. Last but not least I have to thank Gabbi, Brie, and Hannah for making the adminstrative process of attending Katlaw easy and seamless, In closing , your Katlaw experience will be what you make it. If you seriously study and review your Katlaw training manual everyday, make the most of your time on the driving range by getting as many reps as possible in everyday, and studying pre-trip in between your driving reps you will successfully complete the course and walk away with your CDL in hand. He said he had a good experience going through the training, and the instructors Johnny, Dexter, Fred, and Tay were a huge part of the good experience and very helpful. CJ did really well preparing him through pre trip, and Mike did a great job great as well. He said he would highly recommend training here for your CDL. He passed his first time taking it, one and done (he got a nice certificate and a nice One and Done good quality T-shirt too). Overall, very pleased!

Experiencia fantástica: So far this has been the best experience in learning how to drive an 18 Wheeler. They will teach you the basics and allow you to make some mistakes so that you can learn how to fix them in a safe environment. You can't drive an 18 Wheeler without knowing how to fix your mistakes. It is a lot of information in a short amount of time. So if you really want to do this job you really have to pay attention and work to memorize and learn these trucks inside and out. We do have fun and joke. But at the end of the day. You get out of it what you put in it.

The staff and instructors are really helpful and will walk you through EVERY step, it is up to you to apply yourself and then apply the skills to your driving! I would definitely recommend this school to those who are seeking to get their Class A or B CDL. Big shout out to Andrew, Ciara, Joe and Briana! They played a big part in my training and showed me the ways of the road and truck! Gonna miss everyone there but will always be grateful for their knowledge and time!

Experiencia fantástica: I started my journey with Katlaw end of last year with in the classroom. Ms. Gwen is amazing, sweet, and straight to the point which is great! I started on the range (pre-trip, maneuvers, driving) at the beginning of the year. I was in the weekend class and had the opportunity to work with an amazing group of trainers. Tristan was my go to, to help with anything I needed. He helped boost my spirits when I felt defeated. Though he bounced around from different groups of students he always made me feel included and ensured he gave his time to get me through. He is truly an amazing asset to the company, great spirit, team player, and well rounded! Deanna was my girl when I needed help with the Ally dock. She broke it down in certain ways to understand. She was always there when I needed an extra push or just wasn't getting it. She is such a wonderful person! I had the opportunity to work with Joe the first day of driving and he was awesome! Though he was only helping periodically at the time he was really a cool guy and patient with me as I was forcing gears (lol). Lee was the man when it came to parallel! Though he got a little frustrated with me at times cuz I was struggling at first (lol) you can tell it's due to him truly caring about your success. The ladies in the office are fantastic and always quick to help. Very friendly and helped me when I needed it. A few days before I started driving I had to go in for a last minute surgery that put me out for 3 weeks. I was so thankful that the school worked with me and did not penalize me in anyway. If anything, they gave me 2 additional weeks of range work so I was not rusty before I started driving. As long as you put the work in and take it serious you will pass. It is nerve racking and intimidating like anything that is new, but by choosing this school you will be in good hands! I do not know if the instructors I mentioned are there anymore as it was months ago. However, I am sure they continue to hire great talent that wants to see their students succeed! So, take this as a sign to enroll with Katlaw and trust the process regardless of the ups and downs you may face along the way. You got this!!

Experiencia fantástica: I don’t write reviews often, so when I do it’s because I feel genuinely compelled to give credit where credit is due. Katlaw was a great experience for me. From the men and women in the office to my instructors giving solid advice and techniques for not only learning to drive the trucks, but also giving solid advice about the trucking industry as a whole. I’d like to give a huge shoutout to two instructors specifically. Lorenzo and Lee. Lorenzo has been such a valuable person to me. Not only did the techniques he showed me in school give me the tools to succeed, he gave me incredible advice on where to take my career after training at Katlaw. I took his advice and went with the company he recommended would treat me great as an entry level driver. I’m working for that company now and I can honestly say it’s one of the best job experiences I’ve ever had in any industry. They treat their drivers great and have top of the line equipment. Even now as I’ve graduated from Katlaw 4 months ago, Lorenzo still answers my calls when I have questions or seek advice within this industry. Truly a great person who has done nothing but steer me right and been honest. Lee was one of the most thorough teachers I’ve ever had, regardless of the topic. You can tell he’s one of those people who sincerely cares about taking the knowledge he’s learned in his career, and teaching students the right way of doing things. I think he was the perfect balance of giving you 100% of his attention and information you needed, but also giving you the space and letting you figure it out for yourself once he taught you techniques. Both incredible guys and both true professionals, trucking and instructing! If you’re considering CDL school anywhere in the southeast, I would highly recommend Katlaw to anyone.

Experiencia fantástica: I attended Katlaw as a guy who never touched a manual vehicle. Started out rocky, but once I calmed my nerves and actually applied what the instructors were teaching, everything else just clicked. I would’ve been a “One-and-done” but choked on the pre-trip… again, my own nerves. 2nd time was a breeze. Obtained my license on a Wednesday, and had to turn down two job offers for wanting me to start too soon, the following Monday!!! Proud to say I obtained my Class A CDLs w/o restrictions from here, and will begin my flatbed career next week!

Experiencia fantástica: I went in to take my cdl class B training to get my test, before coming to katlaw, i failed 5 times (yes you read correctly) the pre trip, trying to do it by my own, and to save the price of the driving school, i decided to take the driving school on katlaw, the first class was knowledge test, the instructor was very good person and a good teacher, Then they rescheduled my pre-trip class and my test on the same week, i had another instructor and learned alot and even the parts i was missing and failing before, She tested us one by one to make sure we passed, Today i went to take my cdl class B test and i passed the pre-trip, parking and driving test, i completed a major goal, and thanks to katlaw and their crew, and for the price (depending if is class B or A) you cant find that anywhere, ive read the reviews of their trucks that are old, but yes they are but they are well maintained and road ready. thank you katlaw and their crew for helping me get my CDL, i give them 5 star rating and it was a quick and easy. training

The front office staff was great of setting up the process of getting me into the school even if you didn't have the whole amount to pay for your tuition they will work with you. Ms. Halen is a good lady she helped me with the pretrip even after school before I took the test to make sure I pass. Brandon helped me with giving me a extra week to train after he saw I wasn't ready to that the skills test. The staff will work with you if they see you are trying. After I failed the road test Brandon gave me a week to train without paying to train for the test. Ms. Diana showed her support after I passed the test, the school has several recruiters that comes to the school to recruit students. The price is right to get your license at the school.

Experiencia negativa: DON'T GO TO THIS SCHOOL IT IS A SCAM!! My boyfriend paid $4,000 to go. Went to this school for three weeks and had to drive 2hrs everyday. then on test day he had to drive 2 hrs away and he missed one thing and they told him to come back in a couple of weeks. It was devastating since we are starting a family and he desparately needs to work right now. He studied night and day and they just laughed as if our livelyhood was not at stake! When does life get better if the road to get there is unjust. Please don't waste your time here.

Experiencia fantástica: Great people. Took weekend classes while I worked throughout the week. It was exhausting, but every instructor was understanding, and still professional. I learned a lot while I was there. Don't worry about driving, they will teach you. Study your pre-trip. That is the most important thing you can do. Study your pre-trip. Say it out loud, it helps. I know it's ridiculous, but it's the way dds wants it. I was one and done, because of the great guys, and girls who teach at Katlaw Driving School.

Experiencia fantástica: Let me begin with just saying thank you. I appreciated my encouraging instructors and extremely kind staff. Gabby and Mrs. Diane made sure I didn't miss a beat and were very professional at ALL times. This was exactly where I needed to be. I'm a single mother of 5 and had absolutely no experience in a truck but after completing this course I'm now confident to get in the driver seat of ANY truck. I can't believe the support and nonstop motivation I received from my instructors. Ms. Gwen had my back from day one. Kenny kept a smile on my face no matter what, while Brandon instilled reassurance when I felt uncertain, and Dex was so calm and demonstrated great patience with me. Mrs. Halen made sure I will remember pretrip for the rest of my life. And CJ voice is still in my head guiding me away from the curbs. I was happy to receive my certificate but so sad to leave. I found more than lessons on the yard and I can't thank them enough.

Experiencia fantástica: I passed my CDL test one and done two weeks ago at Katlaw, this school is not for the weak lol. You have to study at school and at home if your really trying to get your CDL. Sure the trucks are old but they still work good enough for you to practice and learn in. If you need help just ask one of the instructors out there, don’t blame them because they’re not holding your hand every second of the day. They give you all the information that you need to pass at DDS, it’s 20% the instructors and 80% on you. But over all it’s a good school for the price. Any new comers I can’t say it enough practice the PRETRIP every single day no matter if your at school, driving home, eating lunch, at home practice it.

Experiencia fantástica: If anyone asked “which school do I choose to get my CDL?” I would without hesitation send them to Katlaw. This is a straight forward, fast paced school. From the office, to the classroom, to the skills in the yard, the instructors are knowledgeable, friendly and straight to the point. If you are looking for a participation trophy or to get told that you are a perfect driver, this school is not for you. I came to this school with prior driving history and they were able to provide me with tips and knowledge that made me better than when I walked through the doors. All they ask is you come with an open mind and a good attitude. I am happy and sad that my time at Katlaw is over as I enjoyed showing up to class everyday. Although there is a little bit of a wait time to get into the school, as is anywhere you go right now, it is without a doubt, worth the wait. I felt prepared and excited for the test a DDS thanks to the staff at Katlaw. One and Done.

Experiencia negativa: As a former instructor at this driving school I feel a duty to be honest and let you know that this is a terrible environment for students. I was fired after my 3rd week even though the students gave me great reviews and scored high on their evaluations and dds test. It's rare that you feel as though you’re fired for being too good at teaching but trucking in the south is tricky. Kenny the lead instructor is just a mean, old, hater who hated me from the day I got there and made sure I was "kept in line" and not allowed to apply myself. I guess he felt threatened. Same thing for "brandon" another short white guy who uses fear and intimidation to make students laugh at inappropriate and insensitive jokes. It's hard to keep up with all these folks faces but the WORST is the owner "Ed" who allows them to abuse their authority and make it difficult for alot of the minority students to have a successful experience because that's his idea of what's right. It's evil with a little e. Seriously this is a school to avoid not because it doesn't have facility or one on one instructing. The culture at Katlaw is decidedly stuck in the past and I'm sure in a few years the students will have smartened up and gone elsewhere with their hard earned money.

Experiencia negativa: Don’t waste your time at this school just attend a technical college! They are all for the money not for helping you obtain your CDLS. I attended this school don’t worry about my name. Dirty old trucks equipment half works. They do not sanitize or clean equipment after using. Classes are so full you rarely get seat time. They are for the money go here at your own risks. The instructors talk about you to the other students and complain when you ask for help. I was warned before I attended wish I would have listened.

Experiencia fantástica: I just recently finished the school and obtained my CDL Class A. Here are some pros and cons of the school to help you decide if it is a good fit for you. + Cost. The school is at least half the price of others. This could be especially important if you won't be going to work for a company that offers a repayment benefit. + Pretrip and Backing Manuevers Practice. Trucks are always available to study or practice with from 7am until 5pm. Even students who struggled at first eventually got it after being given an extra 3-4 days. - Driving Time. I ended up with about 4 hours of driving forward before testing. I passed the first two sections but had to retest for the road on another day. I've met students who were taking the road test for the 4th time, and the cost can add up. I did get an hour before the day of my second test. Depending on where you test, there may be tricky turns (in my case, a narrow roundabout where you can't use the apron) you've not encountered before. - Equipment. The Katlaw yard trucks are pretty old. They keep three in good enough condition for the road and testing, but the others are showing their age. I'm a former educator (24 yrs), so I could nitpick pedagogy. Overall, the instructors balanced over/undercoaching with most leaning toward letting you independently figure it out. I found that it worked for me. In the end, I am happy with my choice. I got my license after all, which is the most important thing, and met some interesting people along the way. I'm giving them 5 stars for value to price. No bells and whistles, but the essentials are present.

They literally have you teaching yourself to drive. This school is not the school to go to for truck driving..They false advertise...

Everyone here wants to see you do great. A few of the key components for being successful here is to simply follow all of their instructions and to come into the school with the understanding that you have put forth your own effort and have proper self accountability because nobody is going to hold your hand. They give all the tools to be successful and pass your CDL test from the permit to Road . I’d highly recommend this school to anyone !

All the instructor's have tons of knowledge to share and they helped us and never gave up on us. If u stay positive and listen and apply what they are saying??? U shouldn’t have any problems acquiring your CDL. Listen to Dee and go Pre Trip! Lol and I can hear James telling me to TURN toward my problem. U can ask Mike (the goat) any question... and CJ will keep it real with you no matter what. Helen got me right on my in cab and Air brakes. And Ken taught me some key adjustments on my Parallels. 4 stars only because the equipment could use an update. Other than that I give the instructor crew a cool 6 stars for preparing me to ace my test!

Experiencia fantástica: I just finished up at Katlaw and as the guys will tell you it’s 80% up to you and 20% on them. The guys on the yard are cool Mike ,James ,CJ ,Helen and a couple more of them, they will direct you on how to maneuver the trucks. Just listen to them while they teach you the skills that you will need. Have a positive mindset and a open mind to learn allot of new information and you will be ok. It’s a really short course and the time goes by really fast! So pre-trip pre-trip pre-trip! Be on time and use your time wisely.

In addition, I found both Archie and Ms. Gwen to be both knowledgeable and helpful. Archie successfully prepared us to pass the CDL permit test. Besides being an awesome instructor, Archie is a savvy business man who owned a trucking company and knows the ins and outs of safety and compliance in trucking. Consider yourself lucky if you get him as an instructor. Archie is a man’s man. A trucker’s trucker. A great storyteller. Compassionate. Funny and hilarious. Big shout out to "John Stamos", "Aussie", and "Grampa"! They worked their butts off to make sure that we were skills ready and good to hit the testing facility and come out the other side shining. Ms. Gwen in the classroom and Archie give you all of the tools that you need to be successful, but it is 100% YOUR responsibility to study and make the best of your time on the yard, and on the road! Experiencia negativa: bad school instructors (some) try but really aren't good teachers. mike was pretty good and one another new guy, One big teacher was acting like a tough guy with the students and even physically assaulted one guy. If your not doing well instructor will just stand around talking and joking about you. Very high failure rate during testing, i failed twice and they took 5 people with me to test both times everyone who went failed also. Then they wanted me to pay to test again , I had to end up going to a company school and was trained properly and actually learn how to drive there. Don't waste your money going here study heavy on your own and find other options. There were alot of upset student here

Experiencia negativa: Very rude. Called in to inquire on information regarding the school and was given nothing but attitude from Bri England. She refused to listen to my questions. Maybe she only prefers to be kind to the male figures but as far as a woman I was only given attitude and poor professionism. Not a good place for females looking to make a difference in the truck driving industry.
